B-rank
mission:

'Remember, Kirei. You asked for this.'

Standing alone in the administration building before a mission assignment was a feeling that had yet to grow on Kirei. Since being granted the Mist's trust in recent weeks, he'd been embarking on missions alone more and more often. Tasks which once they had paired him with another Genin or superior officer faded away and the Uchiha fought for the village nightly, in secret, honing himself apart from the others. He spent his days commuting to the camps being held on Sero Osada's private island, stretching his body to the limit as he prepared for what lay ahead. In his ambition, or perhaps out of loneliness, Kirei had requested a higher ranking mission in order to be placed with a squad. After two days, the Jonin, whose distant eyes Kirei had become so familiar with, called the boy in for his new mission.

"This assignment is a top priority, your travel documents are included in the dossier if you need to cross the border into Lightning Country. The objective is not to capture the traitor alive, for those who have forsaken The Mist, the punishment is death. Read and remember this information carefully, once you depart on this mission, there won't be any village ANBU nearby to help. I've assigned two Chunin who will meet you at the border. The three of you will be designated Squad Searchlight and represent the Mist even if you leave our nation. Good luck, bring death to the traitors."

Words rang over and over in Kirei's head as he prepared. By instructions, their party would leave only hours before dusk, slated to arrive near the Lightning border after dark and operate where the Mist is most comfortable; in the shadows. Dark cloak obscured most of his form and strung to the top of his head, currently serving as a hat, was the red and white cat's visage; replica ANBU mask by appearance. The blonde felt sick as he secured the mask around his face once to make sure he could easily slide it up and down, hands still unsteady with the prospect of premeditated assassination. Unable to stop, hands strung a collection of deadly tools across the boy's body, and he hopped in place, twisting his arms and boxing at the shadows to make sure his equipment wouldn't come undone.

With winter creeping toward the Land of Water, dusk came earlier each day; Kirei departed from the window of his dorm, situated in the center of the city, just as the low-hanging sun began to stain the horizon pink. Journey to the city limits found Kirei's mind searching for another answer; capture was not an option, the Mist would merely execute him upon his return, and there would be no offer of redemption even if political means could be used to change his mind. The life of a Shinobi inevitably involves death, and already the Uchiha was no stranger to it, but picturing how you will slay another man scouting and planning to snuff out a life felt different. Perhaps, Kirei pondered, he would provide the information to his allies, and leave the killing to the killers. Such a pact made the boy no better, and left his hands no cleaner, but would not expose his biggest weakness.

Finding practice wherever it lay, Kirei focused on the positions of the guards who surrounded the village walls, noting their locations and sightlines. Such observation would not only hone his own skills but allow him to glean information on how their target may have slipped away unnoticed. Konoha headband afforded the Uchiha freedom to come and go unquestioned, not the responsibility of these guards, and so this was a new quarry for him. He wouldn't stray, merely analyzing en route and then continuing for the border while processing what he'd learned. The most likely explanation was that another ninja willfully let the rogue escape, which would present another issue upon return; the punishment for such a crime would also be death.

Always arriving early, the blonde would be sat in a low-hanging branch overlooking the rendezvous by the time the evening sun was in position for departure. If they didn't already lay in secret, his companions would be arriving shortly; keen eyes watched for them in his peripherals, but the majority of his focus was on the stacks of paper in his hands. An eager new student of the Sealing Arts, Kirei's hands drew symbols on parchment tags, replicating designs from memory efficiently with the analytic powers of the Sharingan. He'd seen some seals during Death Camp already, even going so far as to develop some rudimentary formula of his own. This was far different from the years spent practicing with blades under his father's tutelage, Fūinjutsu was a precise skill requiring much more finesse than Kirei thought it took to wield a sword.

For the first time, Kirei was awaiting team mates without knowing who they were. In truth, the boy hadn't even opened the dossier he carried which contained information on their targets and his assigned squad members. The Uchiha was dutifully trying to avoid thoughts of the man who soon the trio would kill; he didn't want to think about his face any more than necessary.

Taking the long route towards the  administration building to enjoy the sights of Kirigakure No Sato before a mission task was a routine that felt nearly as natural as cleansing himself to the young Senju, It had been only a year since he had graduated from the academy in Konohagakure yet here he was walking to another village's main assignment building to request a higher ranking mission only those of chunin rank and above were trusted to accomplish. The prospect of taking on a B-rank mission was one that caused a mixture of utter excitement and a hing of nervousness as he didn't know how well he would be able to perform compared to other ninja of the same rank if he was put in a squad, but more so then the feeling of inadequacy was the gnawing feeling of how his father took a B-rank mission with a squad and had ultimately ended up a dead man with the last moments of his life shrouded in mystery. But as he stood in front of the administration building he would push those emotions and thoughts out because for better or worse he was a chunin now, such feelings would slow him down and possibly lead him to a grave of his own creation.

With a deep breath Mokuzai would clear his mind of his thoughts before stepping in as normally as he always did and headed straight for the jounin at the desk, now that he was a higher ranking shinobi he would now study the appearance of as many other chunins and jonins as he could because after all these people might one day be the very ninja he will have to put his life at risk for as well as their's in his. The young Senju spoke first, "I would like to request a B-rank mission please." The jonin gave a light smirk before it faded as quickly as it came "Your in luck, it just so happens a day earlier another proficient ninja from Konohagakure requested a B-rank mission. Listen closely as what im about to tell you is of top  priority, i will be handing you  travel documents to allow access to cross into  Lightning Country as  the objective is not to capture a traitor alive but to kill him and anyone related that aided his escape. No exceptions. Before you leave i suggest you read  and remember this information very carefully as one you depart there will be no ANBU to assist you, as i stated earlier another capable ninja will be joining you and with any luck so will a third for a total of a three man squad under the name "Searchlight"  and represent the Mist even if you leave our nation. Good luck, and bring honor to the Kirigakure No Sato!" Mokuzai simply bowed as he said, "I will do my upmost best to eliminate anyone who dare's to turn their back on their comrade's." and then he stood upright as he turned to leave through the door he entered from.

As soon as he was out he would read the dossier with the information sealed inside, the mission didn't leave much to the imagination as it explained they were to trail a Kirigakure ninja gone rouge who had escaped right through the village gate's as stated by a report by a genin. It would continue to say that there was obviously someone who had assisted him in this endeavor and he was also to be hunted and killed as was the way of dealing with traitors in the village, Mokuzai was not one to easily murder a fellow shinobi however in a case like this where he abandoned his village and comrade's he was no longer a ally meaning that his own sense of moral did not protect this certain shinobi from feeling the future thin metal of the young Senju's blade across his skin.

Now that he had the information he would simply have to wait another day before he was off, the jonin had mentioned that there was a shinobi who had already requested and was given this mission prior to him and he would hope that since he had more ample time he spent it wisely on figuring out all related shinobi to this act of betrayer. Mokuzai would quickly rush home as he immediately begun preparing himself for the possibly long journey as it could take several day's if the traitor had covered his tracks well, he would go into  his closet and pull out a mechanism that was used to sharpen his blade's  as it was a way for him to save money beside's the fact that he had to replace the actual mechanism every four to six sharpening or his own weapon was at risk of breaking. Within hours he felt well prepared but now it was late and he would take himself to bed.

The young Senju would wake up the following day as he had slept nearly the entirety of the day but it was still two hours before even dusk would arrive, he quickly dressed himself needing no need of a shower as he had took one before falling asleep as put on his white v-cut shirt along with his long blue coat with blue linings and standard issue black shinobi pants and sandle's before finishing his look by wrapping his signature blue bandanna around his head to conceal his Konohagakure headband as well as to keep his hair from blocking his eyesight and then quickly re tightened the bandage's around his arm's that concealed secret scrolls before rushing out the door wide-eyed and ready.

It would not take him long to reach the village gates and he would rush towards the rendezvous spot jumping from tree to tree before arriving there as he landed onto the ground with only seemingly no sound but only a small dust cloud rising up from where his feet landed, he quickly scanned the area before noticing a shinobi wearing what he assumed was a mask belonging to someone of the ANBU and he would walk closer before introducing himself "Mokuzai Senju, reporting for the top prority B-rank mission."

It was mission time again

It was the first mission of potentially many that she got in this particular fashion. Fuyuko had made a special request at the administration building. The request was that if a mission popped up that required her skills or someone needed the company of a chuunin they could send her a letter with enough details and she’d show up. She had made this particular request so that if the village needed her help she would give it instantly, but she didn’t particularly want to spend time checking up to see if there was work for her. She much rather wanted to spend time with the new love of her life. Spent as much time with him as possible before they’d eventually both end up getting super busy with their own things again. But as long as Takao was capable of staying in the mist village, she wanted to be with him. But today wouldn’t be a day where she’d be capable of spending a lot of time with him, if any at all.

No the young genin that was standing at her door with a letter which entailed the mission details prevented another day in bliss. Fuyuko thanked the genin and saw her off before opening the letter and reading the mission details. At first the mission didn’t seem to difficult, just go retrieve someone that was trying to defect, she was hopeful that it wouldn’t turn out bloody. However as she kept on reading the details it was quite the opposite. Killing him huh…. she thought to herself as she let out a gentle sigh. Why didn’t the village use prisons or some sort of rehabilitation center. Why did the blade have to be drawn so quickly. Shed the blood of people that could probably saved if just pushed in the right direction with some proper guidance. But alas, it wasn’t her place to argue to cities politics, at least not for the time being. She would just need to swallow the pill and do as she was told. Fuyuko ran a small lightning current between her fingers and held the piece of paper in the current until it would catch fire. She knew enough to not need the piece of paper anymore nor did she want another reminder on what her task was, her mind was more than enough.

Time to meet the new ‘squad’

The attire for today’s mission would be nothing special and really just consist of the usual. Tight fitting leggings and shirt which was mostly covered by the village’s flack jacket. The jacket contained two empty scrolls and a few of her coins in various pockets. Around her leg was the standard tool holder where some kunai and shuriken were held. Her hairdo was a loose ponytail held together in a bun by a pair of chopsticks letting a little bit of her girlish side still shine through. Because she prepared well in advance before she needed to arrive at the rendezvous point she decided to take her time walking to it. Enjoying the sight of the glowing afternoon sky as the sun started closing in on the horizon.

When she closed in on the designated meeting area it appeared that she was the last to arrive. She could see Mokuzai standing on the ground looking up into the tree at a person. Presumably male, but it was hard to tell in today’s age, more often than not were the genders of people mistaken. She would make a gentle wave at about shoulder height if Mokuzai would notice her arrival, if he did not she would hold off on the wave until speaking up to greet them. “Hello there, I assume you two will be my squad partners for the mission?

"A ninja must be prepared for death. Right now it's impossible for you to understand but in your life, you will be faced with situations where you must kill, or you will be killed. The path you will take is long and arduous, that is why your parents have sent you to me for training. Each day, I will teach you the importance of readiness, preparation, and intensity. When we are through, you will know how to kill; you will know how to be a great shinobi."

Kirei winced, his father's words came around again in struggled echoes, threatening to plunge the boy's brain even further into doubt. He tried his hardest to occupy his wandering thoughts, reigning them back in by pulling taut ropes of consciousness to work on the delicate symbols he drew across the tags in his lap. Since he was young, the classes with his father taught him the road he would one day traverse. Such lessons were of pain, brutal training sessions throughout the Uchiha compound ending with the hour-long lectures explaining what skills they were to improve. Such a life thrust Kirei far from his father's intended path; pushing the boy into the arms of another nation had been natural for Yara, but now the young blonde planned his return, though his father would never know it.

He felt the incoming shinobi as they made their way toward the clearing, peering out in the direction of a falling shape landing mere meters from his perch. In his absent-minded doodling, he realized he was still looking from beyond the veil of his ANBU mask, smiling cat's face greeting Mokuzai with a silent head tilt followed by a wave. Kirei tucked the paper tags and ink brushes back into their places within a small pouch at his side and descended to the same level as the Senju, kneeling at a large bag containing various camping equipment, supplies and additional tools for their mission. Only when he was done would Kirei stand and look at Mokuzai again, reaching up and pushing the mask from his face to rest atop his head, blonde hair immediately falling to cover his left eye as it always did. Smiling face beamed at the Senju.

"Hey, brah. Haven't seen you much since you spazzed out in the garden that one time, ahahaha~"

Kirei would laugh, approaching Mokuzai with arms wide, attempting to embrace the fellow Leaf ninja in a friendly hug. The Uchiha didn't know how Mokuzai felt about physicality but for Kirei, this was how he always greeted his friends; he had a natural inclination towards closeness. Whether rejected or not, Kirei wouldn't be deterred, as brash as he was Kirei respected boundaries also and his ego wasn't at all wrapped up in whether other ninja wanted to hug him. So he'd continue -

"Guess there's just one more."

Of course, consequence followed Kirei's words, hot on the trails of his prophecy to reveal their final piece. Emerging from the treeline, clad in Kirigakure regalia, stood another that Kirei recognized; Fuyuko, a ninja from the camp. Part of the boy was relieved to have two others he was at least tangentially familiar with to accompany him but even more that both of them happened to be ones he felt had the skill to cover for his limitations. The blonde let out a visible sigh of relief, turning to Fuyuko with a smile and waving his arm. He wondered whether the woman would even recognize him, everything went so quickly he wouldn't be surprised if she didn't.

"Hey! Yeah, this is the squad, I think. I don't know if you remember me but, I'm Kirei."

After his sentence, the Uchiha glanced to the ground and then at the sky. The night was drawing in; evening turned to dusk turned to the cold winter chill of Kiri's nights. The boy remarked to his new squad mates of the passing time and that they'd best leave under cover of darkness. Slipping the mask back across his face, Kirei would hoist his pack across his shoulders and start off into the woods. The trio would have a long road to Lightning Country, having to cross the sea from the nation's border all the way to the mainland; so Kirei wasted no time and vanished into the shadows. The folds of the boy's ROOT cloak would make it practically impossible for even his teammates to track him while he ran. This travel was training as well, for a while he wove up and down throughout the trees, he did his best to track the movements of the two shinobi behind him, pretending they were pursuers and it was his duty to evade them.

Reaching the border would take them well into the early morning hours, traveling through the thin forests before rice paddies and smaller townships that lay outside of the Hidden Village, then finally to the roaring shoreline where a fishing town lay nestled in a hidden bay. This port, commissioned by the Village itself, served as the passage for many of the country's shinobi who left on missions overseas but required immediate assistance. With the wind picking up, the relatively small vessel, crewed by only four others, rocked back and forth in the dock while the official travel documentation would be checked for any fraudulent means. It surprised Kirei that anyone could sneak out of this country at all; surrounded by water, every known port under the watchful eye of the Hidden Village, who would document all travel in and out of the nation.

Voyage to the shorts of Lightning Country would take them well into the evening of the following day, affording the trio ample time to plan their course of action. Whatever Mokuzai or Fuyuko might decide to do for the majority of the trip was up to them, Kirei would be delighted if they chose to speak to him but would otherwise work diligently below deck and seek them out when they were only several hours from arrival. If they had not been down there watching him, the pair would be greeted with his signature friendly grin, and he'd begin discussing his agenda.

"Before we arrive we should have an idea of what we're gonna do, right? I mean, I've read the dossier but with just three of us we'll have to plan more than just to..."

Kirei paused

"Kill them. I don't know if it makes me sound weak but do either of you think there's another way?"

Kirei threw the question to the group without easing into it, threatening to expose his hesitation but a necessary statement in his mind. He wondered whether the criminals could be turned over to the Kumogakure authorities instead of being executed, would their headbands and a term of prison in a foreign land not be punishment enough? The boy stayed smiling at his fellow ninja, whose responses he awaited eagerly.

As he introduced himself the ANBU would do a silent head tilt followed by a wave of his hand and then proceeded to tuck in a paper bag and ink brushes into his pouch before jumping down and standing eye level with Mokuzai,The young Senju pondered if the ANBU was artist in his spare time. Once he was on the ground he would kneel bringing his attention to a large bag that contained camping equipment, supplies and even some additional ninja tools that could come in handy and Mokuzai begun to lightly chuckle as his squad member was quite prepared for the mission ahead that filled him with confidence that they would all come back alive that cleared his earlier fears. Seconds after finishing packing the ANBU looked towards his way and begun pushing his mask up that grasped his curiosity at who he was and had been nearly shocked when the first detail he saw was blonde hair and he knew only one person with such a hair, just as the mask was completely off the blonde hair fell to the shinobi's left eye revealing the face of Kirei, Uchiha as he said "Hey, brah. Haven't seen you much since you spazzed out in the garden that one time, ahahaha~"

"Kirei..!?" He was surprised to see such a familiar face on the mission, but at the same time it was a little awkward as the last time they had meant Mokuzai had a unexpected moment of weakness where he completely loss his cool and ended up ultimately surrendering their little sparring match. Before he could get a word in the Uchiha gave him a friendly hug and he would become stunned by the action as it had been a long time since somebody had hugged him and it felt strangely alien to him now, in response he would simply pat Kirei's back as he was not ready to outright hug someone back. Now that they moment was done they would wait for the final piece of their team but they would not wait long as the sound of another voice pierced their ear's that shifted their attention to a kunoichi that also attended the tedious camp named Fuyuko.

With the arrival of the kunoichi it was time to move on with the mission as evening became  dusk and the chill of Kirigakure's cold nights begun to set in, Kirei had also assumed this as he slipped back on his ANBU mask then hoisted the pack with all the mission supplies onto his back before sprinting off deeper into the woods. As they traveled Mokuzai could hardly see the ninja due to his clothing being dark and well suited for night travel however the sound of his steps and movements were enough for the Senju not to get lost in the dead of night as they traveled through the tree's, although he knew they were on a serious mission he could not help but enjoy himself with his squad as this was the first time he truly begun to feel that he was a ninja like  his father before his passing.

As they passed through the mainland Mokuzai would take in the surrounding sights to make sure they weren't being followed but thats just what he would tell people, He really really enjoyed the scenery as they passed through thin forest's and even passed by rice fields as the sun begun to rose and the citizens of the land started their long day of tending to their fields. By early morning they had made it to a shoreline with active waves where a fishing town lay resting  in a hidden bay harbor. According to the information it was a vessel owned by the village itself for missions oversea's that required immediate resolutions, they begun to move out towards sea as the boat gently rocked with the rhythm of the wave's and things seemed a little tense now that they were crossing over to the land of Kumogakure.

In a attempt to ease the growing tension as they neared the mission main location Mokuzai would find Kirei first below the deck and take a seat with him while delivering a warm smile before speaking, "So, i guess both the Senju and the Uchiha are still growing strong, eh? It's really comforting to know i have such skilled shinobi by my side on such a intense mission. But lets put that aside as im really here to apologize for are last meeting, i was not in my right mind but im better now and look forward to our mission together " The young Senju would scratch his head with his right point finger as he smiled awkwardly at the situation he put himself in just decided to get right to the point, "Next time...i won't let you win so easily!" By those words he meant but one thing and that was to challenge the Uchiha as he waited for his reply to another fight later on in the future.

Now that he had spoke with Kirei he would speak to Fuyuko, honestly other then her name and her performance during the chunin exams he had no information on her and that only gathered the attention of his curiosity. He searched the vessel until finding her on her own and called out her name while waving at her, "Hey Fuyuko what's you up too?" If she answered he would listen and if she didn't he would continue to speak, "Although we haven't met before i watched you at the chunin exam's it's too bad you couldn't beat the red-head chick but you did amazing up until that point." Mokuzai would sigh deeply and just let himself fall into the rhythm of the boat as he begun to relax himself and fall asleep.

By the time he had woken up it was nearly into the evening of the next day and the boat was close to docking, Kirei arrived on deck while Fuyuko was somewhere nearby before speaking. "Before we arrive we should have an idea of what we're gonna do, right? I mean, I've read the dossier but with just three of us we'll have to plan more than just to...Kill them. I don't know if it makes me sound weak but do either of you think there's another way?" True enough the mission did make the point of having to kill and make the bodies of all associated with the ninja's disappear incredibly clear, Mokuzai begun if their was a way to do this mission without killing anyone either but it was highly unlikely possibility without one of them surviving and the consequences coming back to them. The young Senju cleared his throat before speaking "Although i would rather avoid killing anyone the mission is very clear on what we got to do, Kill Kiro Osada and make all those related to his escape..disappear. I hate it too but...orders are orders."

Once they arrived on the mainland Mokuzai would speak plainly about what he believed should be their next course of action, "Now that were here we should begin our operations, we should split into three tasks. First, one of us needs to set up a well hidden camp site. Secondly, we need someone to gather information from the surrounding area about new arrivals to narrow down the search. And lastly to secure food so that we don't starve. Any objections?" If someone had a better idea he would hear them out and if not he would let them choose which tasks they would want to take before proceeding into his own.

Fuyuko

Fuyuko

A-rank
Two leaf boys huh…

Fuyuko greeted the two young man from the hidden leaf village with whom she shared the rigorous training at death camp. She knew very little about either of them and especially little about the blonde guy named Kirei. Not that she knew much more about Mokuzai, however she knew at the very least he was a Senju and that he participated in the Chuunin Exams. As for Kirei the information she had about him was merely just knowing that he was deemed good enough to participate at the camp. However the getup he was wearing was a little bit strange to her, why was he wearing a mask that was akin to that of the ANBU? It was a little bit peculiar and made her a little bit wary of him. Him and Mokuzai might have free roam within the village because of the exchange program that there is between the hidden leaf village and mist village, but that didn’t mean she shouldn’t beware of what they might do.

With that thought locked into the back of her head she would put on her usual soft and gentle face as if nothing was going on. “Well I hadn’t quite caught your name just yet, having to deal with the hothead kind of made me forget about most things that happened. Anyway seeing as we’re all here and it’s a long way before we reach our destination, it’s probably better if we head out right away.” She said whilst tilting her head slightly and smiling. The two seemed to agree with her and the three of them headed out through the village gate and into the wilderness. Fuyuko had taken up the rear position as they ran through the open fields and jumped from branch to branch. This way she could keep a watchful eye on both of the leaf boys without looking too suspicious.  She had noticed the friendly hug they gave each other before she had been noticed earlier and thus deemed that Mokuzai at least didn’t find it strange that Kirei was walking around with an ANBU mask while not being at the rank yet where that was normal. If anything, if he was truly part of it, he wouldn’t reveal his identity like that. The whole thing made very little sense to her. But there wasn’t too much she could do about it now but take mental notes of what would happen.

The lovely salty ocean smell

Upon arrival at port village the trio headed straight for the docks to set out on to the sea. Their documents got checked quickly before they boarded. It made Fuyuko wonder how the person they’re pursuing could’ve left the country. You needed legitimate documents to get a boat from this place and presumably the other harbors as well and the rigorous process they put their documents through made it next to impossible to use fake documents. Did they perhaps use rowing boats to get across the water or reached a ship that wasn’t affiliated with the village? She couldn’t really draw any certain conclusions at this point in time, but at least she could formulate some possible scenario’s in which they managed to escape the country undetected. With the documents checked they went onboard the ship that was reserved for them and set out to sail.

Fuyuko wanted to plan with her partners about what they would do when they reached the lightning country. Their general approach to the mission but also their capabilities in combat. Find out if they could cover each-others shortcomings and possibly strengthen their strengths. But before that Fuyuko would head over to the bow of the ship and stand there. Feel the breeze of the sea caress her face and flow through her hair. The wind wasn’t strong so it felt nice and gentle and was a pleasant experience all together. She sat down and closed her eyes. It didn’t take too long for her to consumed by the feeling that eventually put her to sleep.

However It wouldn’t take too long however for her short nap to be disturbed by someone calling out to her. She turned around and saw Mokuzai. “Oh hey there Mokuzai, I’m just sitting here and enjoying the sight of the sea, the wind blowing against my face and the salty smell it carries. What about you?” Mokuzai took the conversation in a completely different direction and started talking about the exams. More specifically the fight she had with Izumi in which she got defeated in mere seconds. “Aahh…” she said as she chuckled and scratched the back of her head. “Yeah, I made a slight error in judgement and got defeated pretty decisively. I wasn’t able to watch any of your matches however, how did they go?” After their conversation he seemed to fall asleep himself.

Time for a one on one talk

A few minutes would pass as she observed the sleeping Mokuzai before she would stand up and seek out the young blonde. She wanted a bit more information about him before they’d start the dangerous part of their mission. “Oh there you are Kirei.” she said with her normal warm tone. “I was wondering if you were up for a bit of a chat.” She would patiently await Kirei’s reply. If he declined her offer she’d wave goodbye and head back up and doze off again in the position she had been in earlier until her attention was required again. However were he to accept her offer for a chat she’d come closer and grab a seat next to him.

So I was wondering, what brings you to the misty lands of Mizu no Kuni?” The conversation that would flow out of it would be answered with normal standard answers or followed up with questions that were obvious. Mostly to build up a friendly atmosphere and relationship between them, before she’d ask the question that was more important to her. “The real reason I came to see you is that I’ve been wondering for a bit now, why do you walk around with a mask that resembles that of the ANBU?” Her voice filled with sincere curiosity. Did he do it because he wanted to be like them or did he perhaps just like the look of the mask they use? Fuyuko would patiently await a possible explanation that could come out of his mouth and nod along if he did so.

It was time to talk about the mission

Eventually the pair would decide to seek out Mokuzai to talk about their plan of attack for the mission. Kirei spoke up first and showed some discontent with what the mission forced them to do. It put a small smile on Fuyuko’s face to see that he wasn’t so ready to jump the gun and just straight up kill the target. Mokuzai followed up on Kirei’s question. He wasn’t too much like Kirei, despite showing a similar detest for having to kill their target, he didn’t seem to have a single problem with shoving his personal opinion to the side and do as he was told. When he was finished speaking it was Fuyuko’s turn to speak up. “Well I’m not too fond of having to kill our target either, if possible I’d like to capture him and take him back to the village were they can do it themselves. It doesn’t make our hands less dirty, but we don’t have to do what we don’t want to do. However if we can’t succeed without killing him then so be it.” She let out a sigh as she finished her sentence. Her eyes looking a little bit gloomy at the thought of having to kill. She changed the topic, and with it the tone of her voice, to something that was related but not directly talking about the killing of the person. “Anyway, what are the two of you capable of doing combat wise? I personally possess Ninjutsu and Fuuinjutsu and my elements are Raiton and Suiton. I’m mostly a defensive person, but have some offensive capabilities.

Finally ‘home’ again

When the boat reached the shore Fuyuko was the first to jump off of the boat and set foot on shore and stretching when she had firmly planted both feet on the ground. While she didn’t mind being on a boat, but she much preferred having her feet upon the solid surface of the earth. Being upon a boat made her feel a little bit disconnected from it. When Mokuzai also set foot ashore he suggested a plan of attack. However there was a small problem with it in Fuyuko’s eyes. “Well securing some food and water isn’t too difficult, we can just get some right here in town.” She said with an ‘all knowing’ sarcastic voice but her face portrayed that she was clearly teasing him a little bit. “We do need to gather some information about the surrounding area, however I’m not so sure we are going to find much that we could use here. They’ve gone through great lengths to get here without anyone knowing, so I doubt they’d show their faces in a crowded place like this. We probably have a much better chance to find more information about them further away from the shore.

My theory is that they didn’t set foot on one of the ports of the lightning country and instead set foot ashore at some remote location out of sight of civilization. Then tracked inwards and sought out a small village in which they could stock or restock on supplies and continue their journey. So we could inquire about the location of neighboring small villages perhaps. What do you think of that Kirei?” Fuyuko would wait to see if Kirei would chime in or not.

Eventually she’d go on to address Mokuzai’s first point he made. “Finally Mokuzai, setting up camp doesn’t make all too much sense if we don’t have a rough indication of where we should search, so that should probably wait until we do have clue. So for the time being we can just sleep in one of the inns of this port city.” She’d pause a little bit waiting to see what kind of responses the two leaf boys would offer. If they’d have their own objections to her proposed actions or additions to it. No matter what came out of the discussion Fuyuko would suggest that they rest up for the night anyway. Tracking people at night was difficult enough as it is, but most people they could potentially get clues from would probably be vast asleep anyway.

Swaying below deck, Kirei relaxed among the rhythmic embrace of waves lapping against the ship. In his lap, a book regarding the Land of Lightning, specifically maps of the shoreline and surrounding islands; places where a missing ninja might hide if they were staying out of sight. The first step to being a good tracker was putting yourself in the mindset of the target, cover your own tracks and see where it leads you. Kirei itched to reach the shore, mind excited at the prospect of putting his perceptive prowess to use, showing off the only skill he felt proud to call his own. Red eyes criss-crossed the pages, memorizing each mountain path and forest stream to better aid his search when finally they got to shore.

When he caught the sight of Mokuzai's chakra descending down into the lower deck, Kirei blinked and the red in his eyes, along with the twin Tomoe that lay there, faded away instantly. The blonde honestly did not know what to make of Mokuzai, the young Senju was a Leaf ninja, which helped, but their brief interaction had left Kirei scratching his head. Regardless of this, the Uchiha greeted the Senju as if they were good friends, smiling wide and putting away his book before paying Mokuzai his full attention. The first remarks gave Kirei reason to smile still. Indeed the pair were growing stronger and seemingly in tandem; Kirei supposed it wouldn't be long before the two of them may teach rival squads in Konoha. Then the Senju said something which made Kirei pause; referring to the young blonde as a skillful ninja wasn't something people often did and the statement alone caught him off guard. The boy shook his head to regain his composure and laughed in response.

"I've been training hard; I'm doing missions for Kiri every day. You look like you're growing stronger too, will it be long before you go back to Konoha?" Kirei paused, considering the apology, and then continued "I didn't even think about it, dude. When we're back in the Mist, let's go to the training gardens and get in a few rounds. This time, you can have the first move."

Kirei beamed at Mokuzai, shooting him a toothy grin as he left to go topside. With the flip of a switch, Kirei's eyes lit up again with chakra, and he set right back to work on his research, smile fading comically fast. The next person to come down wouldn't be for several hours, and by then, Kirei had finished most of the pertinent research and moved on to his Fuinjutsu study. He sat, producing the various formula, none too complicated, when Fuyuko approached, and he looked up, eyes long since faded back to their usual dull black hue. The woman would be met with a cheerful smile and nod in response to her greeting and Kirei would again put down his utensils before conversing.

"I asked to come here on the Military Exchange Program. I guess I just," Kirei stopped to consider his answer carefully "I wanted to get away to somewhere new."

"The mask? Oh."

The boy took a deep breath and pushed the hair from his left eye with the exhale, but it would be covered immediately by the same fringe as soon as his hand left its path. She hadn't asked the origin of his mask, so there was no danger of him revealing secrets, though truth be told, Kirei knew nothing of the mysterious man or the organization of which he spoke, or didn't speak. Instead, Kirei pondered to himself why he wore the mask for a moment before coming up with a response he hoped wouldn't utterly emasculate him in the eyes of his fellow shinobi.

"I feel more like a ninja when I wear it. I don't always feel like I belong in this life, or like I'm meant to do this kind of work but... When I wear a mask, it just clicks. I'm not fast, I'm not strong, I don't have any special techniques. I like it because then people won't know I'm weak." Serious though his message was, the young Uchiha's face would remain smiling at the woman as he spoke, and his candor stayed cheerful even through his final query. "Don't you have anything that just makes you feel stronger?"

After conversing for some time, Kirei sharing with Fuyuko his hatred of wearing fancy clothing as well as his love of puzzles and asking her in turn about each of her interests and hobbies, the pair would find Mokuzai for their meeting. Gathering below, Kirei would listen as the two replied in turn to his statements; the boy truly wanted to find a solution where they wouldn't have to murder the men outright but could punish them for their crimes.

"Orders are orders... Yeah. That's true..."

"If we're going to drag him home to be executed, we might as well do the deed ourselves, right Fuyuko? There's no need to torture anybody by holding them captive en route to death. I wondered whether we could hand them over to the Kumogakure authorities. If we can find evidence of crimes they've committed in Lightning Country, they would likely serve a lengthy sentence under the new Raikage's laws. A long-term in a foreign prison seems like a far more fitting punishment than death."

"As for combat? I don't know if I bring much. I'm a scout. I'll be able to help us track them down in the wilderness, spot them from far away and navigate the landscape. If we have to get into a fight, I'll support you two as best I can. I'm a Fire shinobi, but my Earth is strong too. My Sensei here told me it's better to attack than be attacked, so I punch strong and from a lot of angles at once."

After reaching its natural conclusion, the conversation would end, and with the shore approaching, Kirei would prepare himself to disembark. When the young male exited the ship's belly onto the land of Lightning Country, the air smelled distinctly different right away. Gone was the fresh sea breeze and the bevy of avian and aquatic life that populated Water Country's shoreline, replaced by a dull fishing village with mountain ranges looming, the tops of which pierced the clouds themselves. Kirei wondered whether somewhere among that kingdom of heaven lay the Hidden Cloud. He was brought back to earth when Fuyuko and Mokuzai started talking, both having walked out further than Kirei who was lost in his daydream. The woman was obviously smart, and Kirei had been thinking the same thing, it only made sense that the pack of rogues would avoid being seen at a public dock and it was unlikely they'd have the connections to land at a privately owned one. The Uchiha replied with a nod and then opened his mouth.

"I agree. I wouldn't land here if I were running from the Mist, but they may have had to restock. We don't know how many supplies they had when they left so we might as well question any of the shops and people around here anyway. What if we use the time to split up; I'll go scout the woods and surrounding wilderness, with my Sharingan I can pick up their chakra if they're anywhere nearby but they'll probably be out of range by now. Either way, it makes it a hell of a lot easier to see in the dark. Meanwhile, you guys should find us somewhere to stay and see if anyone has seen these guys around. Every hour we wait before finding them is a step closer to failing the mission so we should hurry. I'll be back later, don't worry, I'll find you."

Whether they'd take his suggestion for their part or not, assuming he at least got no rejection to his intention of scouting, Kirei would be off with a wave and a wink. The boy would slide the cat's face mask upon his face and simultaneously peer at his allies with bright red Sharingan before darting away for the rooftops and then into the wilderness. Such scouting endeavors were where Kirei felt most at home, peering through the trees at night with Sharingan blazing red with ancestral chakra. Alone in the wild, the Uchiha stalked through the dark, scanning everywhere for a trace of the rogues who they targeted. No matter their rank, their experience, or their reasons for leaving, the missing Osada and his merry men would not be able to hide from the Uchiha visual prowess for long; for even Gods could not escape those eyes.

Once Mokuzai had found Kirei and apologized for their last encounter the young uchiha expressed how he had been doing missions every single day throughout his duration in Kirigakure and mentioned how he also looked more built in strength and introduced a question of his own asking if he had planned to return back to Konohagakure any time soon, "Ah...well..between you and me, i miss Konoha dearly....as well as my mother who works in the hospital as a medical nin. I have another mission after this one that could be as possibly as dangerous but once i settle that affair i do plan to return back home, how about you?"  Now that he answered his question Kirei would think of his own but before doing so he explained to Mokuzai that what happened at the field was forgiven and that when they arrived back in Kirigakure they should go to the training gardens and get in a few rounds, Kirei even offered to let the young Senju go first this time which brought both a chuckle and laugh to his face.

Excusing himself he had immediately went to go see Fuyuko as well, due to him speaking before actually setting eye's on her it seemed he had woken her up from a rather peaceful rest. Surprisingly she had not seemed angry by his sudden appearance at all and calmly expressed how she was enjoying the sight of the sea and the salty smell that the wind carried along with it, although it might have seemed rude to her he cut her short on that conversation and asked about her battle in the Chunin Exams in which she would simply explain while looking perplexed with a hint of a chuckle within her voice as she scratched the back of her head “Yeah, I made a slight error in judgement and got defeated pretty decisively. I wasn’t able to watch any of your matches however, how did they go?” Mokuzai gave a gloomy expression while looking downwards before perking up again only to  scratch the back of his head while giving off a faint smile, "It was fine up until a certain point, but during my last match i found my opponent to be stronger in me in every way and although i tried to make up for it with sound planning and tactics, my endurance and strength gave out in the end and i was sorely defeated."

Without even realizing it Mokuzai had fallen asleep after talking to Fuyuko as some time had passed indicated by how the sun was positioned in the sky, both of them were now coming into view and he would sit there half dazed whilst his body recovered from its sleepy state of mind. Sometime into the chat had passed as they discussed about the mission until Kirei asked the group their opinion on killing the shinobi's they were sent to track, although Kirei and Mokuzai had different opinions they did both agree that killing wasn't a hobby they tended to enjoy and even Fuyuko seemed to hold the same opinion in mins but stated that had it been possible she would have liked to captured them and let the village deal with the killing part but also agreed that if the mission stated it was the only way they would have to just clench their teeth and bare it.

The topic that they had all avoided to that point left the ride silent, Mokuzai knew not what was going on in their heads but he had hoped they didn't see him as a heartless monster but yet he wondered if he actually was as his glance drifted to the crashing waves of the ocean toppling over each other. Fuyuko would speak up once more while changing the topic and ask what combat capabilities did he and Kirei possess and stated that she herself used ninjutsu and fuuinjutsu with the addition of her elements being suiton and raiton that was mostly used in terms of defense with some offensive abilities,“Quite the deadly combination you have there. As for me i use both Ninjutsu and Bukijutsu in  incorporation with my suiton, doton, and mokuton for which im named after that happens to also be my clan's kenkai genkai that im sure your all familiar with by now."

Now after their ride had made it ashore Mokuzai expressed what he believed their first course of actions should be and Fuyuko would throw in her response  on that idea by stating the food and water situation was hardly a problem as they could easily get it from the the towns with a face that made a sweat drop roll down his cheek on how simple her explanation was compared to his complex idea. She did agree with the information gathering but pulled up the point that not much could be gained in this area since the rogue's had made such a effort to disappear unnoticed it seemed highly unlikely they would stick close to the shore of a public dock in which he had to completely agree with form a logical standpoint, while stating that smaller village's further away maybe more beneficial towards their task as she had suspected the ninja's would need to stay out of the sight of the the country's citizens while making sure they had enough supplies to make it to wherever they were going.

She turned towards Kirei to see if he had anything to say but the boy was in though as well and she decided to continue as she pointed out that setting camp would be rather pointless without any real indications of where they should search and suggested it would be better to rent a inn in the town, Mokuzai found himself baffled at the logic he was being assaulted with as up until this point his logic had never really been called into question but now it seemed like it was insufficient. He decided that during the mission he would step up his game as logical thinking could be the line between life and death in the dangerous world of shinobi.

Kirei would now speak up agreeing with Fuyuko in which Mokuzai held no opposition with considering how logically sound her plan was but then Kirei would continue on, he explained that they did not know the number of supplies they currently possessed so he though of the idea to just question any of the shops and people around the area and once again the young Senju held no opposition to this plan letting the two other ninja's take charge in the planning of the mission seeing as how his logical thinking skills were insufficient at the moment. Kirei also suggested that since they still had time they split up while he went into the wilderness to scout  with his sharingan in hopes to capture any chakra signal's and said that they should find a inn for the night as he would stay up later as his sharingan worked better in the dark, "Be careful Kirei, although its easier for you to track dont forget this is a B-rank mission were taking and could pose higher ranked shinobi to go up against. They may have some tracking skills of their own were not yet aware of or some insurance to cover their tracks."

Without directly looking at him Kirei would wave off before disappearing to go do his task, he hoped his friend would take his advice seriously. Turning back to Fuyuko he would smile gently before speaking and looking at her shinobi headband, "Although im sure you might disagree, it think it be best to take that headband off or at least hide it for now. Like i stated earlier we don't know what traps or assets they set in place and the Kirigakure headband could very well set them off on our sudden appearance here but ill leave that to you. For now i believe i should go book that inn for us, im not sure how just capable you are but earlier you said you were the defensive type which gives me the mental hint your  much faster which is better suited for information gathering around this town. Right?" He would give a gentle smile as he finished speaking as he waited for her reply.

A girl and a guy and their hidden reasons

The reason Kirei gave to come to Mizu no Kuni was somewhat left open for interpretation. It was quite obvious that there was more to it then he was giving away, but Fuyuko decided it was most likely better to not pry into it further, at least not at this point in time. After the opening question they continued conversing about the more trivial things of life. Clothing was one of the subjects and Kirei shared his strong feelings for disliking fancy clothing while for Fuyuko it was quite the opposite. She actually enjoyed dressing up fancy from time to time. Telling him that it was a nice distraction from the shinobi world, detach from that kind of life and just be ‘normal’. Beyond that she shared her immense love for nature and how she liked poetry as an outlet for her feelings when she felt stuck in them.

In the middle of all of that Kirei’s mask was also addressed, as was her plan from the beginning. The response she got from him to the question was not one that she really expected. It showed a gentler side of him. She wondered if he would’ve given the same answer if Mokuzai was there in the room as well or not. She didn’t think any less manly of him or anything among those lines, if anything he felt manlier? It took courage to be able to come face to face with your ‘shortcomings’. “I wouldn’t call you weak. It takes strength to admit that you have shortcomings in certain areas. So if anything, you’re stronger then you think in a sense.” Fuyuko replied with a genuine smile before he eyes trailed off to think about an answer for his question. “Hhmmm… I’m not sure if I got something that makes me feel stronger, but there is something that makes me feel more at ease. This life, the shinobi life, isn’t really meant for me either. But there are things that help me fit in better within the world. So if you count that as something that makes me feel stronger than it’s that, but I wouldn’t call it that myself.

The dreaded mission details...

It seemed like, even though Kirei was opposed to the idea, he would rather follow order than choose to follow what he was feeling. It was a good quality to have, but at the same time, it wasn’t good to succumb fully to what the village wanted from you. At least that’s how Fuyuko felt about it, you should be able to stay true to yourself to a certain degree. She did however like he idea he proposed as an alternative and was not opposed of trying to go that route. While she didn’t fully agree with killing him instead of prolonging the inevitable, she did mask herself so. “I suppose the two of you are right that it’s better to kill him then to ‘torture’ him on the route back. However I prefer the option of finding if he had committed any crimes within the lightning country and handing him over to the lightning village.” But even that would still just be a delay of execution she felt like, surely he would still be handed over to Kiri when their time in Kumo would be served. At the very least they’d still be branded traitors to the country.

It was somewhat unfortunate that Mokuzai didn’t really have any affinity for a certain style, be that offensive, defensive or supportive. At least if he did have one, he didn’t share it with the group which left Fuyuko interpreting it as him being just as an all-round person. This left them with a defensive person, supportive and an allrounder. So the composition was mostly supportive/defensive. Seeing as she did express her ability for some offensive capabilities it would probably come down to her to end up taking down the main guy. With that in mind the voyage to the lightning country continued.

Smooth planning ahead

The planning between the three of them went rather smoothly. Mokuzai’s points had been good, the execution however was somewhat lacking but that was okay. Herself and Kirei seemed plenty capable of building on top of the initial idea and how to make the flourish properly. Kirei seemed eager to fulfill his scouting roll and Fuyuko couldn’t really bring herself to prevent the young Uchiha from doing so and just let him go. He might have superior vision to the other two in the party, but like Mokuzai addressed, who said they weren’t on the watch out themselves. He’d be all alone with no back-up, but the glint in his eyes was just not something she could take away from him. Mokuzai finally also had some words for her about her headband and she would take them to heart, but left the headband on for now regardless. There wasn’t much risk wearing it as long as she stayed in the town.

A possible lead

With the group now fully split apart Fuyuko strolled slowly through the town. Asking shop owners where the group they were chasing might have dropped by. But one after another it was just like she had expected. No one had seen other Kirigakure shinobi in recent time besides herself and the common merchants. Fuyuko kept on walking through the streets her mind drifting through thoughts of what they could possibly be doing. What course of actions would she take if she was on the run in foreign lands. Eventually she’d standstill a couple of meters away from the main gate to the port. A man with a cart came in. It’s worth a shot she thought to herself. She conversed with the traveling person. He mentioned seeing a decently sized group walking north-west of the village in the early morning. They were definitely not locals and seemed a little bit shady. Reasonably so the merchant didn’t interact with the group either and just minded his own business.

It was worth investigating tomorrow, but with this information she went back and started searching for the inn they’d be staying at. Upon finding it she’d climb on top of the roof. She had spent some time herself to find it and didn’t want to make Kirei go through the same struggle. As long as he had his Sharingan active he’d be able to find the place easy. Fuyuko concentrated some chakra in her fingertip and wrote ‘Kiri’ on the chimney. The words would last till the next morning before being completely erased. When the three of them would be together again she would share the information. Whether that was before they went to bed or when they all woke up in the wee morning was somewhat irrelevant.

Before leaving, Kirei made sure to acknowledge Mokuzai with a sharp nod. The blonde appreciated his companion's care and was glad to have dependable shinobi on his team for when the inevitable battle came. With this last gesture, he was off into the woods via the town's rooftops. He had been unable to answer Mokuzai onboard the ship, dodging the question of his return to Konoha until their conversation had turned away, but the thought stayed in his head even now, many hours later in the waning evening light. Until Kirei knew what lay in store for him, which would not be until his secret return to the Leaf, the Uchiha was keeping his plans hidden. To make matters worse, time was running out for Kirei to reunite with the reason he'd returned to the Mist in the first place. What remained was the fulfilling of a sacred bond made before the boy considered himself a ninja.

Struggling to shake free of the stress, Kerei channeled the aggression of his thoughts into the search, leaping frantically from branch to branch with pupils darting across every surface. He peered into each shadow while he passed, twisting his body around while he jumped to see all angles. For anyone but the most perceptive of shinobi, Kirei would be little more than a blur thanks to the intricate weave of his Initiate's Cloak. While the trees flew by and he ascended to pierce the canopy and sprint along on high, searching for chakra throughout the wooded foothills. The boy weaved back and forth, forming semi-circles from the coastline as he trekked, methodically passing the hours into the deep recesses of night. When he came to a stop, he looked up at the moon and followed its inevitable descent, determining he was west of the town, which was just a blur, several miles in the distance.

On his vantage point, Kirei could see the whole of the northwestern foothills before they ascended into unknown mountain ranges where Kirei didn't dare to venture alone. The boy was thus far disappointed by the lack of clues among the wilderness; no matter where his Sharingan looked he could not find chakra signatures still in the surrounding forests. This absence meant for sure their quarry already ascended further into the country; at dawn, the trio would need to hurry, but for now, Kirei descended below the canopy to continue his run throughout the forest floor. The boy had reached the parameters he set for his search and spotted no living shinobi, so now the ground search was for signs of a camp, or for tracks hidden in the forest, while he worked his way slowly back to the town. Coming back from the outer north-west, Kirei's eyes landed on several imperfections in the foliage; disrupted branches sliced clean from the sides of trees and bushes stomped flat against the dry, mountain dirt. If they had traveled from the Land of Lightning to Kirigakure, such tracking would have been impossible, but thanks to the dry air of Cloud Country's foothills, the blonde was able to follow them quickly.

The treeline parted, revealing to Kirei the remnants of a shinobi camp. The Uchiha recognized the coverings only because of his years traveling with his father, packing up their campsites and covering the tracks with traditional ninja methods. The Sharingan effortlessly located the carefully disheveled leaves and dispersed fireplace ashes. The blonde smiled wide beneath his mask, memorizing the details of their encampment while looking for tracks leading away. After half a mile, the tracks kept pointing further into the mountains, and Kirei made the decision to turn back. He ascended to the canopy and took from beneath his cloak a length of red ribbon to mark the location on a high branch he could easily spot the following morning. With the flag set, Kirei turned his gaze back to the shoreline and made his way to the village. The Uchiha half hoped his companions wouldn't yet be sleeping; if they were to catch the men, they sought they would need to make haste before they became lost in the Kaminari wilderness for good.

Coming back under cover of darkness, Kirei didn't realize how late, or early, it was. Nearly the whole night he'd been scouting through the woods only to find the barest trail leading further into the country, but at least it was something. The boy's Sharingan scanned the rooftops and as he approached, he was able to pick out the marking one of his squad mates. Locating the chakra signatures of his team, Kirei would then slip through the window of the room they had rented, energy fading from his eyes as he finally let the Sharingan fade from his eyes. The boy let out a long sigh, gripping the mask and taking it from his face while slumping down beneath the windowsill. The boy's body showed it; he was shattered; the long search in the woods and constant use of his Sharingan left him aching and drained of chakra. In his head, Kirei kept going over the maps he studied on the boat, trying to predict a course their quarry might take. The blonde's tiredness overcame the desire to solve the puzzle, and he drifted to sleep.

By the time dawn pierced the weary heavens and slung its arrows across Kirei's face, he'd only slept for a few hours. He shook the sleep from his face and stood slowly, still groggy but spiritually reinvigorated from even a short rest. With some time, Kirei produced one of the maps from his pack and began to draw the route he found, with possible paths into the mountains. Whether his squad were awake or not, Kirei left via the window he entered in and would wait outside the building on the street until the pair were ready to join him. At any point where the three of them came together, Kirei would greet them and hear out any information unless immediately asked about his investigation, but would eventually yield the results no matter the course of the conversation, just whenever seemed the most natural.

"To the north-west, I found trails leading through the wooded areas and a camp. It wasn't like, a normal camp for a traveling merchant or someone else. It was a shinobi camp, they tried to cover their tracks, but they must be moving quickly. I stopped following the trail when it went into the mountains, but we'll need to hurry if we're gonna catch up before they're gone."

With his hands presenting the map to his companions, Kirei would show them each the marked paths before continuing on. Gesturing on the document to what he talked about.

"I think they'll need water, so if I were them, I'd cut across after the first hills to go along this river. I bet if we follow it, and we move quickly, we'll catch up eventually."

If either of his companions had more information or other ideas, Kirei would happily listen and likely defer to their leadership. The boy was eager to share his thoughts but not domineering in his approach to tactics, perfectly content to accept his deductions as false. The Uchiha's philosophy for improving himself was simple and effective; to first recognize his flaws took periods of self-reflection but allowed him to examine where his decisions went wrong. The boy wondered how much of this was due to the evolution of his Sharingan; were the habits of its analytic prowess bleeding into Kirei's personality or was he merely growing up?

Although no words were shared between Mokuzai and Fuyuko after his suggestion about her headband she seemed to agree and headed off, now that each of them were split apart it was time for Mokuzai to do his part for the mission, however he felt the gnawing of irritation of doing the simple job of finding a Inn as he was more so a man of action than anything else yet he always done what he though was best but this was still troubling to say the least.

Swallowing his deep pride Mokuzai begun walking thought the streets of the small port village he know found himself in searching for a Inn for which he and his companions would rest their bodies in for the night that was quickly approaching, he would ask the village locals for a overnight Inn with decent accommodations enough to fit three people and each would tell him a different name's such as the "Owls eye" or "Sleeping oasis", but these Inn's required more than a night's stay to sleep there so he felt utterly lost with the earlier feeling irritation settling deeper into the recesses of his mind. It had been nearly a hour since his search took root and he had found nearly nothing, the emotion of anger and frustration and annoyance on his face was clear as day causing citizens of the port to stay away making it even more difficult but then he found it, a decent sized inn that carried the name "Desserts Haven"

Desserts Haven Inn:

Despite the name it held the inn had quite a bit of greenery and water surrounding it, the display was enough to wane Mokuzai's current emotions as he chuckled at the irony of the establishment, with no other current inns in mind the young Senju decided to walk towards the front doors of the building. When he entered the sound of a small chime bell would ring as he was meant with the face of a elderly man, on closer inspection he might have not been as elderly as he appeared as his face held little wrinkles and his earlier assumption had been based on the fact the man's hair was rather thin as it layed on top of his head, he wore a black kimono that had a rather intricate red outline to it near the base lane of his neck going down his body to the very bottom making it seemingly pop off of his body for a more beautiful effect.

Mokuzai would be casted out of his own thoughts with the sound of the man coughing that was clearly a ploy to catch his attention, "Ah sorry about that, i was just thinking how wonderfully arranged your attire is. My name is Mokuzai, i wish to purchase a room with three separate bed's for a overnight stay please." The man would release a slight groan before replying, "Although we offer that service due to the frequency of those type of request's i'll have to charge you the regular fee of five hundred and fifty plus the extra fee of three hundred ryo." The young Senju would pull out a small bag of ryo filled to the brim, "This is one thousand and three hundred ryo, the money is yours on the request that my companions and my stay here are kept sealed permanently. Understand?" The man simply nodded in response and pocketed the extra money for himself, he then guided Mokuzai through the building to his squads room that consisted of three comfy looking bed and a bathroom with bath included,  he would smile as this would be the highlight of his day after hours of aggressively angered searching.

Now left alone once more Mokuzai would move towards the bed to the far left and sit on it before falling back and staring at the ceiling, his job which was much to easy now left him with a sense of boredom as he would slowly close his eye's and listen to the flow of running water outside the room, the other guests pleasantly talking among themselves, the soothing lullaby of a summers cricket song.  Perhaps for one who was not so mission focused as he was the sounds around would work like a soothing lullaby, however the young Senju had no such luck as he now felt the feeling of irritation at his contribution to the mission dwindle with each passing second, quickly rising from his bed Mokuzai walked straight towards the backdoor as he slid it open and re-closed it with one goal in mind, to help find any possible leads.

The young Senju now back in the middle of the port village would think to himself as he jumped from rooftop to rooftop, "If i was in cahoots with a rogue shinobi and wanted to stay out of sight, where would i go?" Mokuzai would repeat the answer to himself continuously  and eventually come upon the conclusion that he would pick a abandoned warehouse or anything out of plain sight, following that notion he would search the village as the sun turned from the highest point of the sky to a lower point as time passed on until he found a warehouse with lights on away from the public eye.

It was a lot darker then it had been when he started searching for leads, but looking around the outside of the  warehouse he could see three moving target's armed with blade's across their backs, focusing his gaze he noticed the relaxed stances the three moving people had below making them rather easy to take out, Mokuzai swiftly leaped over to the roof of the warehouse and saw one of the targets with their back turned towards him while standing next to a stacked crate box's. Beginning his infiltration the young senju quickly jumped down behind the man before grabbing their mouth area silencing them with a tight grip with his left hand as he quickly pulled out a kunai with his other hand and impaled it with swift speed right in the center of their neck, he quickly moved behind the cracks and waited for the man's struggle's to cease as blood quietly dripped off the kunai, seconds would pass and he no longer felt the slightest resistance coming from the man's body and let go and removed his kunai letting their blood continue to leak out.

Mokuzai quickly searched the now dead corpse for any weapons and found that he had been well armed with ten more kunai, this would save him the trouble of having to use ninjutsu to subdue the remaining duo, stripping his clothes the young Senju took on the appearance of the target garnished like a mercenary and begun to walk plainly towards another isolated target and they would turn around to speak, "Jihi get back to your post!" As Mokuzai loomed closer he would make a quick movement as he pulled out his katana piercing straight through the mercenary's vocal cords before slicing it open even further so that there sound would only be replaced with the gurgling of them choking on their blood, this noise although small was enough to attract the attention of the third body and Mokuzai quickly throw his blade attached to his hands with chakra strings aiming for the vocal cords once more silencing the man before he could let out a cry for help, it was obvious to him at this point if there was more waiting he would be late in re-arriving to the inn. Mokuzai quickly weaved a hand-sign causing a water clone to appear, "Tell Fuyuko and Kirei that i have found a possible lead to our targets and i am currently subduing them for information and that i'll be late, if they ask something of you do as your told."

The clone responded with but a simple wave of the head before jumping off to the inn where his teammates were hopefully gathering, but for now Mokuzai had affairs of his own and he would so alone if he had too.

Finally a proper bed again

Was the first thought that crossed Fuyuko's mind as she had finally found the inn where Mokuzai had managed to get them a room. She got told by the owner of the inn which room was theirs for the night. With the information she needed she bowed and thanked him for it all and made her way up the stairs to their room. She knocked on the door to let Mokuzai know that she was going to come into the room. She waited and waited, but there was no reply from the other side even after repeated knocks. "Did he already fall asleep?" she wondered. Seeing as a minute or two had already passed and there was still no reply from the other side of the door. She carefully opened the door and made her way slowly into the room so to not disturb Mokuzai if they were truly sleeping already. However once she had fully made her way into the room there was no one to be found. It was just herself and three empty beds.

It wouldn't help for her to go out back into town to look for her partners. There was a decent chance that they would just continuously miss each other and so Fuyuko decided to just stay within the boundaries of the four walls that made her sleeping quarters for the night. Eventually after having laid on the bed for a bit Mokuzai would suddenly show up, but in quite the hurry. Mokuzai quickly explained the situation and there was only really one thought that started rushing through her mind "Why is he being so careless after telling Kirei to be careful...". "Tell me where the real you is! He needs the backup. Also stay here and wait till Kirei shows up and instantly tell him what you told me plus the location." Fuyuko waited till she got the answer she needed and then opened the window and dashed off to the location things were going down.

When Fuyuko arrived it was relatively quiet there was some ruckus inside of the warehouse she was standing next to. Not being entirely sure what the situation was Fuyuko decided it was best to channel some chakra under her feet and stick to the ceiling till she knew better what the current standings were.

The night's shadows were always a comforting greeting for the Uchiha who relished the silence and dark, smirking at the snuffed street lanterns and unlit windows of the city streets, Kirei found his perch on top of the inn marked with Fuyuko's chakra. With his Sharingan, Kirei was unable to spot either of his teammates or their chakra as he descended into the empty room and searched for a sign or a note of where they had gone. The boy's heart sank, wondering whether the others had found the Rogue without him and he would be left with no contribution but the moral support of a post-victory celebration. With a loud sigh, Kirei resigned himself to a night alone, and as he prepared to cleanse his eyes of the Sharingan, he spotted the flow of a familiar shape flickering through the walls in a shape he recognized. Kirei rushed forward, descending from the window before rounding the building and coming face to face with Mokuzai's clone who wandered around in the Inn's entrance courtyard.

The Uchiha's fears had been partially fulfilled; it appeared that Mokuzai had discovered local thugs that had assisted in the Rogue's passage inland. Kirei's eyes narrowed beyond his mask, and he set off like a bolt of black lightning, bringing his hand to form a seal and then sinking into the ground with a swirl of shadow. The night made it easy to navigate the streets in this form. A tiny blip within the dark corners that made up the roads would spin toward the shoreline, zipping between the folds of cobblestone and the arching silhouettes of building shadows. Along the docks, nestled against the rocks, were the figures of warehouses and as the boy approached, he could already hear the sounds of commotion and when he peered out from the veil of shadows he could see clearly with his Sharingan the chakra signatures of his fellow shinobi. Weaving beneath cracks in the dilapidated warehouse, Kirei came upon the tail end of Mokuzai's encounter, having dispatched of the visible threats save for one who had just met with a blow from the Senju and been sent tumbling backward. Mokuzai had done the hard yards, and Kirei took his time to observe the surroundings, noting on the belt of the man who Mokuzai had most recently knocked down a black knife.

Rising from the floor, likely unnoticed until now by any in the room, Kirei would walk toward the man who scurried away from the masked figure, the edges of the boy's cloak lost in the warehouse shadows making him appear much more fearsome than his slight frame would otherwise allow. Maintaining his jutsu, Kirei would stay partially formed, leaking into the surroundings and making him glide without apparent footing across the wooden floor. As if at the behest of whatever specter Kirei was channeling, the floorboards burst beneath the startled criminal, fingers of earth coiling around his waist and arms while one lone digit looped the ring of a familiar Kunai from his belt. Doubtless, Kirei's companions would recognize the matte-black Kirigakure military equipment held in the grasp of the Uchiha's geomancy. Without hesitation, the blonde would speak down at the bound criminal with the aid of his mask producing a fearsome baritone, mimicking the voice of one of Kiri's Jonin. Months spent patrolling the streets of Kirigakure in disguise gave Kirei an experience dealing with the cowardly and superstitious nature of men like this.

"This Kunai, who gave it to you?"

As the boy spoke, the air would crackle, wreaths of flame igniting and slowly working their way down toward the stammering crook who struggled in vain at the solid stone bonds. Feeling the heat from Kirei's Devouring Blaze, the squirming figure would retort with silence at first, watching the Uchiha, who still stood masked and looming, surrounded by shadow and cackling flames. It was not until the moment Kirei's flames began to singe his hair and catch alight the stray threads of his weatherworn clothing that the man finally snapped, looking between the two shinobi he could see, too panicked to notice Fuyuko perched on the ceiling.

"The Shinobi... F-from Water Country... T-they paid u-us and lent us munitions, they asked us to t-trek into the mountains to the northwest. Sh-showed us how to cover tracks w-while they stayed here. They l-left this morning for the e-east, up toward Yamimoji Mountain."

Kirei cursed, remarking on his own stupidity as he turned to Mokuzai, who would no doubt have heard the exchange. It was the Senju's investigation that brought them here, after all, and Kirei made sure to meet the other boy's eyes, searching for any apprehension before he would give a nod and sink down again into the cracks between the floorboards where he could slither from the structure unseen. Kirei would leave the criminal to do Mokuzai and Fuyuko as he set off, though they would surely be close on his heels as the Uchiha sped into the forest, heading along the shore east of the port. To the east, Yamimoji Mountain towered over the shoreline, reaching high into the heavens as if it longed to grasp at the Lightning Country moon; the majesty was unmistakable, and though each mountain which rose from these lands had their own temples, Gods, and worshippers, Yamimoji was the chief among this range. Having left many hours prior, the Rogues would be at an advantage but moving in a group would slow them down and Kirei was confident that if the three of them made haste, they would arrive at whatever encampment the vagabonds had set up for the start of their long journey inland.

It would take the better part of two hours, navigating the forest with his Sharingan, the Uchiha would leave behind markings if his squad mates were having trouble matching his sensory prowess, carving the symbol of tomoe into tree trunks to alert them. Utilizing the combination of his dojutsu and sensory techniques, the blonde would be able to cover a large area as he ran, mapping the forest with his chakra and memorizing it immediately with his Sharingan gave Kirei an enormous advantage when it came to scouting and navigation, one that even Rogue Mist ninja would not be able to hide from for long. Traversing the rocky mountain paths as he left the forest for the foothills, Kirei came to notice the formations of tents further nestled between the rising curvature of Yamimoji's upturn. The boy would stop if he needed to until such a time as his companions caught up, where he would inform them of the anomaly detected by his chakra. Once the trio was each aware of the location, Kirei would allow himself again to contort into shadow, withering away into a strand of black chakra which sped away toward the source of his quarry. Turning wide and traveling further up the mountain, Kirei would allow Fuyuko and Mokuzai to position themselves however they wanted, but the Uchiha opted for a perch from where he could see down upon the whole encampment.

From this angle, Kirei could clearly observe a large campsite, several tents and a firepit still smoldering with smokey embers sat in the center. Three of the rogues kept watch that Kirei could see, but none were a match for the collection of hidden shadow making up Kirei's composition, which slipped unnoticed across the mountainside as he scouted. The start of any conflict would be met with immediate resistance, the runaways were resting but paranoid, clothed and with weapons in arm's reach they would be ready within moments of whatever attack the Mist trio had decided to launch. Beginning with the lone watchman who studied the mountainside Kirei traversed, the Uchiha would rise up at the man's flank, twisted formations of stone quietly slithering into place behind him before lurching out to encase the man's mouth and chin before restraining his arms, pulling him slowly back into the rock which would part, allowing him to be placed with his mouth gagged and body submerged in rock where he would be of no threat. The Uchiha looked out after subduing this side's guardian, looking through the night for the chakra of his companions and remaining ready to assist however they decided was the right move.

Now that he had dispatched his clone to inform his companions of his location Mokuzai could now deal with the rest of the group inside. Due to disguising himself as one of the mercenary's the young shinobi did not need to exaggerate his movements and simply opened the door that lead inside and then closed it so nobody could escape easily through the exit without having to waste precious seconds to open it back up. Thankfully the three body guards outside showed just how tight security was in the area and Mokuzai no longer needed to worry about being overly cautious on his way of handling the remaining mercenaries inside the warehouse.

The young Senju now carefully walked slow enough to conceal his movements but quick enough as to not arouse suspicion from anyone inside, as he inched closer towards the center of the warehouse he begun to hear voice's from within and as he peeked from his location he saw a big mercenary with a shaved head wearing nothing but  a mask that covered just his eye's with heavy gear on, "Hey boss, how long we gotta stay here?" From across the big one sat a smaller one who wore no mask, but just by the way his posture looked relaxed and how he held a cigar in his mouth while talking with utter dominance in his voice one could tell that he was in charge. "Quiet Dodoara! It's bad enough a man of my stature has to stay here under the thumb of some ninja, i dont need to hear shit from you as well. Were be out of here soon, shouldn't be long until they make their escape."

Although the mercenary's kept talking their was no need for Mokuzai to continue listening, they had already said enough to convince him they were working for the rogue ninja meaning he could now press them further under the command of Kirigakure. He had only seen two but their could possibly be more hidden, he would make everyone's death but the leaders swift as killing wasn't something he enjoyed but was necessary to cover all ends in the shinobi world.

The young shinobi emerged from the corner walking with a very relaxed stance and slight smile, his presence immediately alerting the mercenaries who were having a pleasant talk up until that point, the big guy roared with anger and confusion in his voice, "Who the hell are you?! How did you get in here?! Mokuzai kept walking ignoring the man's questions, he didn't really need to answer them since he was about to die, instead he begun speaking to the boss behind his back, "Im terribly sorry for my rudeness, but im going to need to ask a few questions."

The big man throw a punch in which Mokuzai easily evaded before taking out a kunai and stabbing it right into the center of his throat, he started tumbling back and the Senju kicked his leg in to easily make him fall. But before he could press further Kirei appeared and started asking questions, he easily scared the man into the information they needed to proceed and was the first one to head out, leaving the boss to Mokuzai, not wanting to wast time he did exactly what he had done for the others and used their own kunai to impale their throats.

He followed Kirei's trail and started to catch up with him, as he made his way through the tree's he heard the sound of something flying in the air and stopped to see a kunai flying by, out of the tree a man appeared wearing a Kirigakure shinobi head-band scratched out wearing a chunin jacket, he found one of the man and hoped kirei would find the other.

Mokuzai looked onward towards the man in front of him, "Im guessing your the ninja that left, Asuske Kaguya was it? Im sorry we had to meet on such circumstance's but you should know why im here, right?"

Asuske nods his head, "You been sent to kill me and my sensai right? im afraid i can't let you do that, your be dieing in this forest today. May i have your name so i may engrave it into my memory?"

"Mokuzai, Mokuzai Senju."

"I see..What is the hidden leaf doing all the way in Kumogakure hunting a ex-Kiri ninja? Shouldn't you be playing with all your leaf friends?"

Mokuzai chuckled at the joke as he reached into his back pocket, he secretly used wood style making three seed pop out into the pouch and then pulled out three senbon and attached chakra strings to them held it in his hand before making them thin enough to the point of being almost translucent by using fine chakra control, "Sorry, but my play date was canceled until i deal with you!" The Senju throw the first needle and then sent the other two flying towards the tip of the first one that changed their trajectory.

The Kiri chunin moved out of the way of the first Senbon and made a amused face, "If thats all you got your not even worth kill-" Mokuzai as he was talking used the chakra strings to re position the senbons before all three impaled into the chunin's stomach, he then pulled on the chakra strings connecting to them with all his strength that made the guy fly through the air towards him.

The Kiri chunin quickly reacted by putting up his hands, bone's started to poke out before shooting at Mokuzai, The Senju quickly let himself fall back allowing him to dodge the bone's as they flew but a inch by his face before  piercing the tree branch behind him, but this also  allowed the chunin to pull out the senbons as Mokuzai curled his body in the air to let him land on his feet.

The Kiri chunin looked down at him with a smile "Well played, you changed the trajectory of your senbon's using chakra strings and then used it to pull me in, your worth killing after all" He then threw up a scroll in front of him and made the release hand-seal that summoned barbed wire all around him with his left hand holding the handle of it's beginning.

Mokuzai didn't like the fact it was twenty feet long but the chunin seemed to make a misjudgment, they were surrounded by tree's. Even if the weapon would prove to be quite deadly in a area where there is so much cover to hide behind, or use as defensive structure's the lasso like bob wire would be utterly useless unless the attacking ninja went on the defensive, it would be a swift victory if the chunin lacked the common sense to see that.

Spinning the bob wire the Kiri Ninja then lashed it out towards the Senju, Mokuzai quickly jumped up into the air to dodge it, the chunin quickly pulled back the lasso and fixed it's aim so that it would be coming straight towards Mokuzai from below.  The Senju activated his chakra in the air and a disk shaped appeared from in front of him and he curled his body in and then pushed himself against the disk figure allowing him to avoid the bob wire while moving back at the wire kept going straight up the air, the chunin started to laugh evilly as he then swung his wire back down as Mokuzai was in it's direct line of attack.

For a second the Senju thought, "What a fool.." and as the wire came back down he created a second disk figure that allowed him to move to the left while midair, he then pulled out one of the seeds he was holding and shot it out towards the chunin's legs before they became entangled in a heap of thorns that caused one inch deep cut's that bonded him down as he screamed, Mokuzai then took out his blade and imbued it in chakra before throwing it out right towards the chunin.

In fear of the blade he had closed his eye's but for a second nothing happened, "HA! Yo-UGHA!!" Before he could even finish his sentence a large but thin wooden branch shaped like sword emerged from the branch in front of him that pierced three inch's deep into their heart, it was a jutsu aimed at a vital for the sole purpose of killing the target, the chunin simply stared into Mokuzai's eye's as he himself landed on a branch with a deep sigh as he had actually exhausted some of his chakra and was beginning to feel somewhat lethargic.

The chunin kept looking into his eye's but within seconds the light faded from his own as he passed away with a large wooden sword pierced through his heart, Mokuzai completed his mission and now it was up to Kirei to do his.

Following Kirei through the woods was certainly not an easy task. It wasn’t really that he outpaced her, it was more the fact that she completely had no clue where he was going. The way he moved through the shadows made it incredibly hard for her to know which ways he was going and so she found herself not running at full speed after him. Instead she looked for the markings he left behind on his trail, guiding her and Mokuzai through the woods. She didn’t like that they had to run through the dark of the night, but they had little choice. They had found the location of the deserters and who knows how long they were to remain in that location. Eventually they’d reach the top of a hill and overlooked what appeared to be a campsite.

No words were spoken, the three of them merely looked at the encampment and observed what was going on. Only three people were visible from her point of view. Fuyuko simply waited until Kirei would do something. He had been taking the charge during the night and it had gone smoothly thus far so Fuyuko didn’t have too much of a problem with letting him keeping the lead. A bit of time passed before Kirei went on the move again without talking. Fuyuko tried her best once again to stay hidden in the shadows like him, but couldn’t melt with the shadows like he did. So she would wait in the shadows until an opening would appear or until it would appear that Kirei was going to need help. On her descent she made sure to stay hidden behind the trees as much as possible in effort to not alert any of the guards that were stationed at the tents.

It would appear that her descent down the hill went without any trouble as Kirei was able to take out the guard closest to her current location. Without a sound the guard vanished into the shadows like Kirei did. Infiltration seemed to be going fairly well up to this point. Fuyuko looked around quickly if she was capable of spotting Mokuzai around somewhere. After looking around for a bit there wasn’t a single sign of him being around. She wondered if he was doing alright, but now wasn’t really the time to think about that. She had to stay focused on the task at hand. Make sure that no one was sneaking up on her or that the almost stationary ‘guards’ spotted her. She thought of a plan of attack to help out Kirei before activating her first technique of this engagement. After performing the required hand seal another copy of herself appeared right behind her. She could make more clones but that would leave all of them with a significant decreased amount of chakra. Thus Fuyuko opted to only create a singular clone of herself and split the chakra in half.

Since she had made the clone after thinking of her plan of attack the clone was aware of what would be happening next without a need for words to be spoken. The real Fuyuko would run ahead with the clone following up behind. Both of them would do their best to make no sounds while traversing the woods to one of the other guards. When they got close enough the real Fuyuko would rustle a bush. Hard enough that it would be within audible range of the guard, but soft enough that it wouldn’t really be noticeable beyond that. It prompted the guard to become alerted and check out where the noise came from. The clone was hiding behind a tree next to the path the guard would be walking if he came to check out the origin of the noise. The darkness of the night really made this tactic possible. The clone was hidden within the shadow of the tree and the guard walked right by. The clone pulled their right arm back and swung straight for the guards temple. Knocking him out on the spot. The real Fuyuko would come out now and catch the falling guard to insure that no further unnecessary noise would be made. There was no need to alert the rest of the camp with a rather audible thud as the guard would hit the ground uncontrollably.

Overlooking the camp, Kirei could pick out, with ease, the men who wandered through the tents, unaware of the cursed eyes which watched from on high, preparing themselves to strike. Kirei breathed deep, it was all he could do to steady himself and not focus on the grisly details, Mokuzai had trailed off into the forest, engaged in combat with another foe while he and Fuyuko had traversed further to the mountainside camp. His hands stopped shaking for a moment, and Kirei took them from his mouth, surprised as they stayed steady, looping the ends of kunai through his fingers as he plucked the tools from his belt. Not yet willing to rush down the hillside and assault his targets, the Uchiha waited until he spotted the lurking form of his companion lying in wait, poised to strike in tandem with him. He would swallow hard, taking a final moment to consider the camp and his method of attack, reaching out with his chakra to map through the thin walls of tents. With his route clear, Kirei rose from his cover and began his strike.

Begining by hurling the held projectiles in his grasp and following their path down the hill toward the closest scout, Kirei would also form a series of hand signs with his free hand. Impacting the unsuspecting Rogue's shoulder, hip and shin, the trio of blades elicited an immediate scream and the attention of his brothers, but Kirei was not impeded. Chakra surged from the Uchiha, commanding the earth and sky to do his bidding as the power of both the Devouring Blaze, upon which he so routinely drew, and his Geomancy, which allowed him to control the shape of the world itself. The first fallen scout would be enveloped by a swarm of hands which rose and then hardened to pin him down as the Uchiha sprung, sweeping his hands through the air to clap in the direction of two more, who drew swords and came upon him. From either side, a wall of claws woven with fire and light would descend and threaten to wash over the pair, then spread and encircle them while beneath them, the earth splintered and rose. Kirei's blazing sphere would stay put, the floating stone moving to the center to suspend them until the roaring flames exhausted them to the point of collapse. Where once the Uchiha had exercised stealth, he now caught alight a rough trail through the dark, drawing everyone in his direction and allowing Fuyuko to engage as much or as little as she wanted. With the Sharingan fueling his instincts, Kirei felt unstoppable.

By now, Fuyuko might have discerned that Kirei's presentation of his offensive capabilities had been an understatement. Whether deliberate or not, the Uchiha's techniques presented immediate and oppressive offensive potential as he stormed forward, attackers on either side toppled by the orchestration of earth beneath their feet and then impacted by the boy's strikes as he dashed forward, plunging his fist into the gut of one target the pivoting and launching an aerial kick for the jaw of another. With the pressure of his foot against the falling opponent, Kirei arced his body back and was caught in a basin of stone which rose up to greet him, allowing him to run, practically upside down, and gather speed as he came upon a figure emerging from the central tent. The Osada who had led this group from Kiri's shores wayward through the cloud shot out, wasting no time exhaling a cloud of mist and darting to meet the Uchiha. Though audacious, Kirei intended to provide a distraction and injure or exhaust as many men as possible so that Fuyuko could remain unseen, slipping around the edges and detaining their foes or preparing to assist him if he bit off more than he could chew. So far, Kirei had kept on top of things, the sheer power of his Fire Style and Sharingan making up for any mistakes he made during his ascent to the final battle.

Into the mist, the twin shadows began their dance. A fist came toward Kirei, his Sharingan catching it as it came within inches of his chin and allowing him to dip backward, spinning on his ankle and launching his right leg around in a kick which impacted folded forearms. Retracting quickly, the young Uchiha lurched forward, swinging his left fist and then jabbing out with the other for his opponent, who twisted the top of his body and deflected the boy's strikes with his wrists. The rhythmic crashing of Kirei's fists against the forearms was broken only by the periods of silence when the Uchiha's blows were avoided entirely. Kirei's body dropped, feeling the weight of a leg impact the side of his knee. To avoid the oncoming blow which rained down from above, the boy whipped his knees around, catching the other teen's legs from the right and sweeping to drag him down while simultaneously providing leverage with which to rout himself on top of his foe. Before Kirei would have the chance to attack, a stream of smog would be let loose from the Osada's lips, rapidly bursting toward the Uchiha's face, acidic breath searing Kirei's eyes and face with compressed air which caused him to scream and recoil. While the burns were superficial, Kirei found himself struggling to open his eyes, and as he stood to turn in the direction of his foe, a blurry shape swung toward his chin, and he felt the sudden sting of a right hook.

Before he had time to process the initial pain, a knee caught Kirei's stomach, and he fell back, shoulders hitting the dust as the Osada performed a series of hand seals. With his vision still impacted but beginning to return, Kirei lashed out with his left leg at the ankle of his oppressor, then rolled to the same side and pushed off the ground to swing with a kunai held backhandedly in the direction his opponent had been. Finding nothing, Kirei tried his best to trail the shape which came from his peripheral, this time moving to block the strike in time as he rolled his body forward, using the arm to guide his way toward an opening where he would push with his fist into the Osada's gut before stumbling forward, instinctively rubbing his irritated eyes. Spitting blood onto the stone, Kirei turned again and raised his fists, squinting through a cloudy filter at the flow of chakra which surrounded them, trying his best to navigate by the light of those signals while drowning out the urge to close his eyes and succumb to the pain. The two came together again, Kirei's forearm pivoting up to stop a hand which held in its grasp the thin frame of a kunai attempting to thrust into Kirei's shoulder. With his free hand, the Uchiha would punch for the Osada's gut but find his fist caught in the older teen's grip and then spun, causing him to twirl away before feeling the impact of a kick against the small of his back. Toppling down, Kirei would yelp as the blade of the thrown kunai pierced his palm. Looming over the Uchiha, the rogue smirked gleefully.

After that, Fuyuko had the target to look at it where Kirei would be. Looking at what would happen. Did he make a move or was that for a new moment where they could strike. What followed was something that Fuyuko would never think of in her wildest dreams. The mission was sneaky all the time. Every movement the group made was reasonably well thought out and executed with as little noise as possible. All this to ensure that the moment that the most difficult part came, it had become a piece. But that plan did not look like the path they are walking on. No, they had switched a good number of gears.

Kirei was no longer walking around in the shadows. He had been stripped there and started a whole attack. It came as a steady shock for Fuyuko. He had said that he was not so good at attacks. That being cunning and waiting more was his thing. His task with the power of his eyes and the ability to move in the images of objects. That was what she was told, but that was not really the truth. For example, are more than capable. He showed the power to move the earth and control fire. On the one hand, Fuyuko was a little happy that Kirei was in it, but on the other hand, she also got a little angry. He had lied, or perhaps not necessarily lied, but he had withheld information. Information that could have been an asset for the execution of the mission.

It was only too late for Fuyuko to worry about it. The only thing she does now was to go with the flow of the fight. Kirei might have given up his own position, but her own position was not unknown. Perhaps this was part of the boy's plan, but that was difficult to communicate conforming. It is what it is, now it was her to do that now. Fuyuko looked at how Kirei struggled through without too much trouble. As she watched, she maneuvered to a new position. Certainly not as silent as before, there was no need for that. The sound of the fight would easily come over the sound of a few tufts of cracking twigs.

Both the real Fuyuko and her clone had not seen a single moment where Kirei really was in danger and that she had to jump. Her attention to the boy was abruptly broken when sound came from her other side. Her left arm quickly slipped down her body and reached for her pouch. From there she took one of her kunai's and held it firmly in her hand. A man jumped out of the dark and the two started their own fight almost immediately. Fuyuko wanted to finish the fight without using any techniques. The use of techniques would immediately give away its position. Although the sound of metal that hit each other was not the softest sound, at least it did not really give a visual indication that something was wrong.

While the real Fuyuko was successful with one of the bandits, her clone was still in the shadows. The clone tried her best to keep an eye on both the boy and the real version of her. This so that she could help both at any time. Although it had become quite difficult for her to keep an eye on the boy. The moonlight and a small flame here and there were the only light sources. It was enough to see people's shadows, but to be able to follow them in the fog went too far. Her eyes were not good enough to see what was going on in the fog.

A scream came from the direction Kirei was fighting and it sent a shiver over the backbones of the clone and the real version. She now had to finish her own fight quickly so that she could help her partner. Fuyuko had hoped she could end her fight without having to kill the person, but that required more work and precision. Unfortunately, now there was no time for that, she felt responsible for the well-being of her teammates. After all, she was the oldest in group, and although they all had the same rank, she had her rank longer than her partners. The clone came out of the bushes. The man with whom the real Fuyuko was fighting was distracted for the smallest moment and that was just enough for her to use it. Her kunai slipped past her opponent's sword. Since the sword of her opponent had no parapet, her own weapon slipped along the length of the weapon and into the knuckles of her opponent. A scream of pain came from his mouth while the kunai was cutting against the bone making sure that he dropped his weapon.

Without waiting for what would happen, she made her next move. The position of her hand around the weapon changed a bit to have better grip for the next movement. Though she had thought that she had to finish it quickly she still had a little grace for her enemy. She jumped forward, the gap between the two no longer existed. The tip of her weapon began to poke against the right side of his chest before it was slowly and deeper into his flesh. She had some luck with pointing her weapon. It was possible to insert the weapon exactly between two of its ribs and so could enter the full length. The man fell backwards and started again with a new deafening scream.

By turning off her enemy she could finally give her attention to Kirei. Hopefully he was not as hurt as the person she had just stabbed, but she feared for the worst. The scream that was released was not a scream that would let you go for a little pain. No, that was a shout for when you actually could not have it anymore. The awkward fog was still in the way, but with a few simple hand movements and a roll on the ground where she put her hand on, the fog slowly disappeared. After the fog had been sucked up, she only saw the situation in which Kirei found herself. The enemy was bent over Kirei and was about to strike. His weapon slipped through the air towards the boy. A blow or cut that would certainly have terrible consequences if it hit.

So three kunai's follow in the direction of the attacker. One focused on the weapon, another focused on the man's head and the last just in front of him. This to force him back and away from Kirei. Her weapons would hit him before his stroke would come, but unfortunately his caliber was good enough to see what was going on. Without too much trouble where counterattack evaded, but that was okay. She had not expected anything else and the goal of that attack had been achieved. After all, the man was two steps away from Kirei. Fuyuko and her clone came running as quickly as possible. She wanted to ask how it was with him, but decided to remain silent. The sooner she put an end to it, the faster it would go better with Kirei.

The duo of herself was ruthless. Even though Fuyuko had never fought in such a way, it went pretty well. She blocked attacks for each other and made use of openings that were made by each other. She could notice that the villain was in better physical condition, but she had the advantage of being with two. The only thing she had to take care of was that he could not use his hands for anything other than blocking and ordinary attacks. Gradually the trio moved a bit further away from Kirei. The man distracted by what appears to be an infinitely long attack did not realize that he was coming closer and closer to his tree with his back.

Finally the moment was there, his attention was broken for a fraction of a second when his back came into contact with the tree. His head turned to see what was behind him. That moment secured the victory for her. One hit after another made contact with his body. Slowly but surely he was beaten to a pulp. There was no stopping the blows that Fuyuko handed out. The man slowly fell through his knees. His stamina slowed until he just could not and sat on the floor. It was over, well, almost. There was one more thing that needed to happen. Even though she was pretty upset when they were on the boat, her teammates agreed that it had to be done, so it was.

Again she grabbed her pouch, this time not to grab a kunai, but to grab a simple coin. Her hair started to stand up a little while she was charging herself. She threw the coin in the air, the static charge became clearer until it all disappeared in one go when she gave a pinch to the falling coin with her thumb. With a high speed the coin shot against the villain and ended his life. As a tear rolled down her cheek, Fuyuko turned and ran back to Kirei. "You idiot!" She almost shouted. "You could have been dead! Is it going?" She followed angrily and worried at the same time. "Can you walk?"

Kirei

Kirei

B-rank
Pincered between the earth and his foe's vicious blade, Kirei struggled against the pain in his arm and eyes, scampering away with what strength he could muster to buy time, any time, for his allies to help him. The boy wondered if he was seeing double, the guardian angel who came down upon his attacker smote from two angles, allowing the Uchiha time to retreat back, cradling his arm. The Mist shinobi, guile as sharp as the blades of her nation, backed her duel toward the trees which dotted the foothills, cornering the Osada against the trunk of a thick birch. Vision blurry, Kirei shook his head free of the acidic miasma clinging to his Sharingan. Cursing himself, Kirei stood, taking the folds of his cloak and desperately wiping the residue from his eyes, struggling to move his injured hand before turning back to Fuyuko and the glint of shimmering metal caught in a campfire's radiance. Then came the hammer, nostalgic Raiton's shriek brought back memories of the brawl behind the Osada manor, and the show of electrical force Fuyuko had then displayed. The trust of the young Uchiha had not been misplaced, and relying on her to have his back guarded at the most desperate time, ultimately, had led to the completion of their mission. Wherever Mokuzai had gone, he was far away from the pair who persisted in taking down their target, and Kirei was lost for the words to thank his companion.

With the snap of the Kunoichi's Railgun, silence draped itself heavy on the encampment, the crackling sound of fire pits and the distant rustling of fleeing mercenaries the only sounds save for nature and death. At first, the Uchiha opened his mouth to speak but was stopped by his ally's scolding remarks, dripping with truth, which Kirei regarded with a solemn nod. Supporting himself with his uninjured hand, the Uchiha responded to the next question with another affirmation, pushing himself from the trunk of a tree and gingerly taking several steps forward to find his balance. The bulk of his pain, radiating from the bleeding palm, caused the boy to groan and clutch at the bloody makeshift bandage formed from shreds of his Initiate's Cloak.

"I'm sorry, I-I saw the camp, and I thought..."

"...I thought I'd be quick enough so we wouldn't have to..."

Blonde halo illuminated by the numerous burning tents which only now began to burn out and fade to cinders against the rocky foothills, finding no purchase on wet grass and cool midnight stone, Kirei bore witness to the swathe of scorching black remains in his wake and grimaced. The Uchiha drew deep a breath with the intention of steadying his thoughts, but the labored inhale stammered and Kirei instead exhaled in jagged bursts, meditation tactic failing him as he took in the aftermath surrounding them. It had been the same mistake as last time; eager to utilize his evolving Sharingan, Kirei had followed its orders blindly, sticking to his script and playing to his strengths only until the tipping point when decorum became confusion and the battle began. With no faith in his own abilities to overcome the trials of combat, the Uchiha often surrendered to the dojutsu in his efforts to survive. The theatre and brewery with Di had already found the boy a hair from death for this very reliance, and then the docks, where his guardian had saved him, another sorry situation caused by the Uchiha's familial bonds. Kirei would happily accept any support from Fuyuko as they walked, and would guide them by his Sharingan if they needed, which had faded into the immature single tomoe which spun lazily, until they reached the shore. Throughout the journey, the boy would muse, whenever seemed right, the thoughts swimming through his head.

"I don't want to stay in Kiri. I've decided when we arrive back to request a termination of my exchange and travel back to Konoha. The Mist is powerful, but the longer I stay, the less I find myself willing to abide by their customs. They'd probably kill me just for having let so many criminals go without killing them myself, right?"

"When I first arrived, I thought Kiri was showing me what it meant to be a shinobi... but now I'm not so sure. I don't think we're supposed to slay mercilessly like this and become desensitized to death and suffering. How we feel... how you and I feel about killing like this, I'm starting to think that doesn't make us weak, maybe it even makes us stronger. In Konoha, we have something called the Will of Fire, and it says the Village is a family... but what if we're all a kind of family? Chakra connects us right? It's in all living things? When I see the world through my Sharingan, everybody's soul looks the same..."

"I don't know, maybe it's dumb."

"I've learned a lot, but I think Konoha needs me more,"

Fuyuko

Fuyuko

A-rank
Fuyuko felt super relieved when she noticed that Kirei was capable of moving about on his own. It was also quite apparent that the words she had spoken had upset the boy of sorts. As if he was looking for an excuse for his actions. There was no need for him to excuse him after all. He simply did what he thought was the best course of action for the mission and there’s nothing wrong with it. The two of them were still relatively new to the way of a shinobi. They would have to stumble and fall at times so they can learn from their mistakes. Unfortunately in their line of work it just often meant getting hurt. She was just glad that he was relatively uninjured. When he had finished speaking his heavy words Fuyuko couldn’t help but gently wrap her arms around him and holding him tight. Her right hand on top of his head and gently stroking it. “It’s okay Kirei. You did the right thing.” She spoke softly as she tried to comfort the young boy. In the situation they were in, she couldn’t help but feel like the protective older sister. Wanting to protect their younger brother from the evil of the world.

She ended up fixing and better applying the makeshift bandages for Kirei’s wounds before the two of them would venture back towards the port. Walking at whichever pace was most comfortable for Kirei and supporting him whenever and wherever he would need it. It was a bit harder to navigate their way back up the mountain with one of them being injured, but it was nothing the two of them couldn’t conquer together.

This mission was just another nail in the coffin. Another testimony to Fuyuko that the way that Kiri was going about their ways was just wrong. There was no reason, or rather, no justifiable reason for them to abolish all the prisons in the country. Sure crime rates would plummet, but why rob people of their chance for redemption. With each passing day the village just drove her further and further away from it. The country that she once loved so deeply only got darker and darker as time went on. As time went on the painting of the country she had in her mind only become slowly more tainted and tarnished. Feeling of despise for the village grew with every mission she had to execute. Her hands slowly turning into things that she would sometimes have trouble recognizing as her own. Should she move on?

Was it coincidence or was it meant to be? The words Kirei spoke to her resonated so well with her own mind. It was almost creepy how close they were to her own thoughts, as if he was reading her mind. She shook the eerie thought aside as she continued to carefully listen to his words. They didn’t really come as a surprise to her, he didn’t seem like the person that was fit for Kiri, but neither was she. Should she leave the village behind as well? That was a thought that she could digest on at a later point. She chuckled slightly at his last sentence followed up by a quick reply to it. “I don’t think they would kill you for that. I have done very similar things even in front of high ranking jonins and I’m still here. You’ll be fine, besides not everyone can be a stone cold killer from the get go. Some people, like us, would need to get shaped to fit the mould.

Well first of all mister.” She started off saying a little bit sassy before returning to her normal soft caring voice. “You’re not dumb at all. If anything I think you and maybe me as well are smart for questioning the way things are. What’s the point of living if you’re but a mindless machine that executes tasks. That doesn’t sound like an interesting life at all. As for us all being family? I’m not sure how to answer it, but regardless of if we are actually family or not, we should treat each other like how we would want to be treated ourselves. Would you want to die when you had made a mistake? I certainly wouldn’t.

Her eyes turned towards the sky before speaking up one final time about the topic. “Kiri will change its ways. I’m just not sure how to achieve it or when to achieve it, but it will.
