The Mission:

The first mission was one that every fresh genin was excited to receive; no matter what they would have to do, not that they were exciting tasks that needed to be done. Whether it was cleaning or chasing down a cat, or some other form of just simple basic labor, d-rank missions were a rite of passage that Genin had to participate in before continuing on to another rank within the hierarchy and gaining more power. It didn’t matter what the missions was- at least, if they were devoted to their village, usually it was done without a single qualm. It was a mission, and missions were solely for the purpose of bettering the village for all of their citizens and it was a shinobi’s job to do such things.  

In Yoshimi’s case, she most certainly had no qualms about receiving her first d-rank mission. She was loyal and devoted to her village and was extremely excited to begin doing her jobs for the village as a shinobi. She’d been waiting for a few days after graduation from the academy for the letter that enclosed the mission announcements for both herself and her girlfriend Setsuko, excitedly, wanting to be able to do the mission sooner than when it had arrived for the both of them. When it arrived she’d quickly given Setsuko hers before tearing her own announcement open to read the mission that she was to take. The tasks weren’t exactly something that she was unfamiliar with, as it was a simple to-do list for an old woman in the village named Ninaro.

With her large family there had always been something for her to do, whether it was a chore or going out to gather something for either her parents or one of her siblings so being given to-do lists wasn’t exactly something new for the teenage genin. But even so, it was exciting, and it didn’t stop her from excitedly tittering away to her girlfriend about what was going to have to be done for her first d-rank mission. She was relatively selfless when things like this came around though it did base itself in a need to prove that she could handle anything thrown at her. She was a prideful person after all, and she had her family watching her closely. She wanted to prove them proud, particularly her older brother Arata whom she looked up to. She was following closely in his and their father’s footsteps. She just hoped that a disaster would not befall her at the rank of chuunin like it had their mother.

Either way, the task that she had been given wasn’t going to be difficult though it might be time consuming and she was going to have to have an early start to the day that she was going to complete the mission on. It was a long list that she’d been given with the mission announcement – four apples, eleven sweet potatoes, three tomatoes, two packs of instant ramen, one pack of sunflower seeds, one pack of rose seed, three boxed of green tea, perfume, two pieces of granny underwear, and she also had to walk her dog, feed the cat and help her clean.  It was a long list and she had some questions about the list that she was going to clear up when she arrived at Granny Ninaro’s home in the morning, if just for the sake of sating her own curiosity. Like, why on earth she needed eleven sweet potatoes at one time.  What on earth was she going to do with all of them? Still, for now she’d push the questions to the side until she was at the old woman’s home.

So the night before the duo had their first mission, they had a nice dinner together before crawling into bed early to get a restful night’s sleep. Despite hating to be late, getting up in the mornings was always something that was difficult for the young member of the Kaneko clan. She loved just being in bed with her girlfriend and lazing about, not to mention the little hitch that she usually couldn’t hear the alarm clock – or clocks- going off because of her awful hearing. So waking up was something that was a little bit difficult for her, but she had trained her body to be able to wake up early – at least when she went to bed at a normal hour, and she managed to wake up at around five am in order to go to work.

Having never gone on a mission before, the morning routine was a little different than normal, but there was something similar to it. Yoshimi’s usual routine was to lay in bed for a while wrapped around Setsuko, then take a shower, toss on clothes, breakfast, gather items, a few words of conversation with her girlfriend before going to train, or even force her girlfriend to come training with her. Of course, the differences this time was that she actually decided to put some effort into matching her outfit up rather than simply just throwing clothes on. It was an important day for the two of them after all.

Once the morning routine was finished it was finally time to head out for the first mission of many that she would be doing in the future. Slyly she stole a kiss from Setsuko that he girlfriend couldn’t say no to as she headed to the door and wished her well with a content little smile accompanied with a soft giggle. She couldn’t wait to return home so that the two of them could chat each other’s ears off about what they had had to do for their first missions. At the door she did one more check that she had her weapons and supplies with her before bounding off towards the goal that she was to complete within the day for the D-rank mission that she was to complete.
