The sky was sparse with clouds, giving off the natural light of the sun's radiance coupled with the heat of the desert village, making the temperature that day feel mildly uncomfortable for any not accustomed to the land of wind. Despite this, the trade district was abuzz with traders going to and fro, hawking their wares and trying to buy sundries at low enough prices to resell them for an exorbitant rate. The village seemed to be recovering after the tragedy that had struck the nation not long ago when sand was turned to glass and many were murdered for the whims of three.  People trekked through sandstone and loose grains, leaving footprints imprinted upon the ground, hustling and bustling while traders talked among themselves. A large area of traffic such as this would be the perfect place for someone to set up shop, which is why it was chosen as the new location for the 'Modish Menagerie.'

The building was cut from beautiful white sandstone with blue stained glass windows. The doors were saloon style batwing doors, which when swung open, would ring a small bell. Those walking near the building could hear a cacophony of chirps, hisses, and brays.  The small pet shop boasted many types of animals and pets from snakes and other reptiles to avians and even young camels or donkeys suited for traders and caravans. Many were kept in neat cages or glass terrariums, mostly for their safety than that of the people who would enter. Standing behind the counter was a young man with spiky snow white hair, a rag in hand. He was polishing the ornate glass counter top, waving to a couple who were leaving with their very own speckled geckos. His emerald eyes scanned the store as he wiped down the counter, as if he was doing some math in his head.

With a sigh, he finished wiping the counter, busying himself with the feeding of the reptiles. Some would eat mice, others crickets and bugs, some even just eating vegetation. Keeping the animals well fed and in good health was important to his business, so it was something he took pride in. He hummed a small tune to himself, sounding more of a jig than a melodious refrain. When he finished feeding the reptiles, he'd pull out a small notebook and pen, moving over to a cage that held three different types of birds native to the land of wind, tilting his head as they observed how each interacted with the other. It was interesting to see two carrion birds living in harmony with what could only be described as the cousin to the mighty hawk. Nonetheless, they were getting along well which he made sure to write down in his notepad, continuing his humming, waiting on customers.

Izumi

Izumi

As of late, Izumi had become obsessed with the idea of falconry. The birds seemed intelligent and capable of fulfilling multiple functions if trained well enough to serve on command. From her readings she understood it was not the easiest animal to train but it seemed so rewarding to do so. She herself was not much different from the falcon in her manner of killing, preferring to use a single swift strike coming from the unknown to swiftly dispatch her prey. If Nova was a hawk then Izumi was surely a falcon. Izumi had plenty more time for frivolities such as hobbies in her new life so today she set out to find out if there was a suitable bird to be had in the village.

Currently they were lacking in imports given the strict policy of isolationism Izumi and Nova kept until they were ready to unveil themselves to the world in style at a moment of Nova’s choosing. Merchants that found their way into the harbor would be allowed to safely moor and enter the city without fear of molestation or seizure of goods. They were allowed to do business but would not be allowed to leave, the same went for any wayward wagons or caravans. The secret would be kept as best it could, any word of rumors of the return of the sand were met with carefully placed counter rumors to make the reports seem so preposterous that any who dared say the return had happen could be fairly named mad. As far as they could tell it had worked so far.

Izumi wandered the trading square eyeing the names of various shops and stalls until one caught her eye. “Modish Menagerie” Perhaps this would hold the subject of her fancy. Izumi approached and lightly pushed open the doors of the shop and looked about, there were animals of every kind imaginable all within the marbled walls and lofty ceilings of the shop. At the counter was a young man humming away while writing in a notebook of some kind. Izumi approached the counter slowly while taking in the sites around her during her journey across the shop floor. On arrival she’d clear her throat softly and begin speaking “Excuse me, but I couldn’t help but be too overwhelmed to pick anything specific out, do you have any falcons?” Waiting for his reply she looked him up and down, Izumi was about an inch taller than him and had to be younger. Izumi smiled kindly at the young man waiting for his reply.

Hanabi had a good morning, the sunrise hit him in the right spot and he was feeling really fresh today, he was wearing his white t-shirt with his mom's family symbol on the back and in the front was a saying on his sandy brown t-shirt, 'Suna Forever'. After a while stepping on the ground wearing his sandy brown sneakers he notice his mom entering a strange place as he looked up and read softly aloud, “Modish Menagerie”. He was not sure what kind of shop this was or what kind of place it was, but he knew his mom was there and decided to follow along.

Hanabi entered silently as he looked inside and noticed a bunch of strange animals, the walls seemed to have this strange stone like appearance as he got a bit distracted staring at the glossy finish. Then he made a soft 'oh...' sound as he realized it was marble walls. Hanabi heard what his mom said as he approached her and wanted to give her a soft hug, but he refrained from doing so when he noticed the shop keeper, the guy did not seem that much different from his mom in height, but he was a bit bothered that there was someone else here as he sighed softly and said, "hi mom..." and after saying that he moved close to latch onto her arm while glaring at the shop keeper slightly before having this dead look on his face like he stopped caring at all.

Nova Makato

Nova Makato

A-rank
Nova was making her way from the tower in the center of the village to the market, mood bright as her current task was one that she had offered to take care of for the resident falconer in her employment. He was currently assigned the not-so-pleasant task of scraping the floor free of debris and filth in the Aviary at the peak of the tower, so she thought she could aid in some of the lesser tasks required to care for the creatures that resided there. In addition the that, she had been given a list of tools she had never heard the name of before that he needed as well, all for the sake of the well-being of the majestic creatures in his care. Nova would shake her head slightly as she re-read the list, hoping very much that the shopkeeper she had been pointed in the direction of would be able to identify what exactly it was that she needed to purchase. How was she supposed to know what a 'styptic pencil' was? Regardless of the task as hand, she did not mind the walk to and through the market, to see the life thrive in the new village was a joy to her. She was in simple garb today, a pale green V-neck shirt that was just thin enough to show the outline of her under-clothes and charcoal leggings that went to just below her knee. The cloth was bunched above that spot upon her left leg though, over the wooden edge of the prosthetic she wore in place of that missing limb. Despite the unremarkable attire, it was likely any who knew or had seen her before would recognize her as she passed. Long rippling locks of lavender hair hung low down her back, the brilliant sunlight reflecting off the facets of color in the waves.

Ahead of her in the market, she would spot color as brilliant if not more so than that of her own hair. A jewel tone parrot hung in a cage in the front of a shop, the sun hitting his down as it did her hair and seeming to glow. Others were there too, bright green and yellow parakeets skwaking just loud enough that Nova could hear it over the babble of the crowd. Such creatures on display were what caught her attention, but as she drew closer she was able to gather that this was her intended destination to begin with. Limping through the mulling public, Nova would notice as first the noise then the smell would grow much stronger. Wrinkling her nose slightly, she would pause and debate whether she ought to purchase herself an essential oil necklace to ward off the scent before proceeding. A debate that was put immediately to an end as she saw an oh-so-familiar form break from the path and enter the store. How lucky could she be that she would run into Izumi whilst each out on errands of their own? Instead of one of slight disgust, a smile would don her face and she would beeline for the shop as well.

This was what being content felt like. Kizashi sighed to himself and smiled, writing down his notes on the carrion birds' growth throughout the last few months since their hatching, reaching his pen through the cage to softly stroke the bird closest to him. It made a soft throaty noise at the touch and then went about preening itself. There was the sound of a bell coming from the front of the store, signifying someone came in. He waved absentmindedly to signify he'd be with whoever it was in a moment. "Be wiv' you in a moment. I jus' gotta finish these notes." His heavy accent cut the words like a dull knife. It wasn't that his voice was unpleasant, he just had a strange accent that he picked up from his parents. Not being a social person, he'd never actually talked with others enough to mellow it out. It was something his teacher used to poke fun at him for. When he was around, anyway. Writing down a few more observations about his birds he heard a soft clearing of a throat and turned. "Look ye' little, I already told ye' tha.." His eyes widened when he took in the beauty before him. Her blond hair, tanned skin, markless face. She was different from any woman he'd seen in the village lately or otherwise. His voice was caught in his throat for a moment, absorbing the woman before him at the moment, her question barely hitting his ears.

His attention was drawn away when a  small child made his way into the store. Usually children weren't allowed in the store unattended as they had a tendency to spook the animals by rattling cages and making loud noises but when the child said something about a mom and hovered around the woman, Kizashi stopped himself. The woman didn't look old enough to really be his mother, but the young man wasn't in a position to inquire about such things. Sighing a bit and scratching quietly at the stubble on his cheek, he made his way over to a new set of cages holding the two or three species of falcons that made their home in arid climates such as the land of wind. Kizashi thought he saw someone else approaching the store through the window, but she looked too well dressed to be seen in his little store.

"Aye, I've got a few barbary falcons, lanner falcons, and a red snaped shaheen. They're all exceptional beasts, and I should know, raised 'em meself." Kizashi began to look around for a glove for the falcons to perch on but realized he had them all put away since business had been a bit slow. He sighed and made his way back to the counter, reaching up for a box up on a shelf, beginning to pull on it. The box came slowly off the shelf and down into his waiting arms, bringing with it a small black book and a hitai-ate with the village hidden in the sand's symbol on it. Both came down to smack him upon the head, one after the other, falling to the ground with clattering noises.

Kizashi cursed under his breath, setting the box on the counter and rubbing where he was struck. "Ah wot kinda barmy tosser'd put the damn things on the shelf? Like I hired a buncha berks." The book had fallen open, showing the artistic, slightly too neat handwriting of his old teacher, Syekren. Kizashi bent down and picked up his headband, then the book, scanning over the writing. It'd been the first time the book had been opened since it came into his possession, but he didn't have time to bother with it now. He pulled the string on the back to tie around the button on the front and keep it closed, placing both items on the counter next to the box. After that was done, he'd pull up the flaps of the box and reach in, procuring a long leather glove that would come up to a normal person's elbow.

Waving the woman over, he'd walk over to the cages and pulled the long glove over his arm. ''There's another few gloves in the box when ye figure out wot ye want. But ye cannae go wrong wiv me favorite girl here." With that he opened the cage and held out his arm for the red snaped saheed, who gingerly lifted one of her legs and sidled over onto his waiting leather protected arm. When she was fully on the arm he pulled it out of the cage and closed the door again. ''This girl is loyal as they come, part of the peregrine falcon family she is. Aren't ye girl?" Kizashi softly stroked the side of the falcon's head with his ungloved hand. "Of course, there are other birds."
