Warring Clan Era
"A grudge over food is deeper than the ocean."
Chakra. Ninshu. Ninjutsu.
It was all but fated that the inhabitants of the Shinobi World would all follow through with this transformation, changing their interpretation of the energies that flowed within them from something that was just there, to a useful resource, and then to a harmful weapon. It was inevitable that one’s mindset would transition through these three defining stages, as per human nature, but it was ultimately one’s views and ideologies, as well as how strongly they held onto them, that dictated whether such a powerful resource would prove an ally, or an enemy.
Where many clans were quick in weaponizing what they believed to be virtually an endless supply of omnipotent power, the Akimichi clan were among the few clans whose refusal to take up arms needlessly and shed innocent blood made them strongly resistant to this passage into a time of needless violence.
Perhaps not so much a clan in the days of their founding as much as they were a family, the Akimichi were a small group of no more than three dozen individuals who tended to the small farms in the Land of Fire, surviving through the seasons by relying on their annual harvests and street vending. While their line of work eventually developed their extraordinary and unmatched talent in the culinary arts, the application of chakra to their innate abilities were what separated the Akimichi as a clan of warriors from the other notable chefs in the region. Their ingenuity in implementing chakra to the culinary arts bred them as a clan of warriors whose fighting style wasn’t so much dependent on the food they ate, as much as the calories that they were able to store within their bodies, giving rise to a feared style that was unmirrored in the lands.
Despite this pioneering achievement in the art of ninjutsu, which they had admittedly ventured into, the Akimichi refused to wage wars needlessly. Their handling of diplomacy and constant seeking of closer cooperation with their neighbours bred close ties with the two families that owned the surrounding lands – families who would eventually come to found the Nara and Yamanaka clans as well, each famed for their unique fighting styles the same way the Akimichi were for theirs. This economic cooperation would soon trickle down to the individual level, bringing the three starkly different families ever closer together as their members actively collaborated on a daily basis.
It was this cooperation between the three families running so deeply into their history that led to the emergence, and perfection, of the infamous Ino-Shiko-Cho Formation, a tactic the three clans’ members deployed on the battlefield that made them dangerously fearful even in the eyes of the most belligerent clans.
"The mark on the right is the Akimichi clan's symbol, see? Let's see... the centre one's the Nara clan's, and the left is the Yamanaka's. We've each mastered some very rare secret ninja techniques. They have a special relationship; our three clans have teamed up and worked together for generations. To strengthen our unity, it's tradition that the Sarutobi give us gifts of special earrings that we present to each generation when they swear their oaths. It's so we never forget the oath we take."
While content with their way of life and the close friendship that they held with the Nara and Yamanaka, the winds of change blew when the union between the Senju and the Uchiha were signed. While it was in no way the first truce or act of diplomacy, such a union between two warring clans with deeply imbued hatred for each other was unheard of not only with regards to the clans involved, but also in the scale of their ambition: to found a village where the young would need see no violence or bloodshed, regardless of their volition. Content as their way of life as it may be, the Akimichi clan were eventually swayed along with the Nara and Yamanaka into joining the village by the reputable Sarutobi, giving birth to the strong ties that the four clans would have with one another, symbolized by the passing of earrings down to the next generation.
Even despite being surrounded by allies on all sides as generations passed, the relationship between the Akimichi, Nara, and Yamanaka, and to some extent the Sarutobi, never diminished. Instead, such ties were only cemented further when the intricacies that their feared formation explored were widely celebrated by the populace, both civilian and ninja alike. Some would even argue that the emergence of the future standard three-man cells were inspired partially by the Ino-Shika-Cho formation itself.
As part of Konoha’s societal structure, the Akimichi mainly made their living by building up upon the talent that had always been a cornerstone of their lives, and their clan’s history. And, while their cooking was widely commemorated, it was in their military contributions to the village that made them a vital part of Konoha’s structure, with their unique calorie control imitated by no other, and similarly replaceable by no other.
Having played crucial roles in the Three Shinobi Wars that plagued the land following the founding of the five villages, the Akimichi were no less crucial than any of their fellow ninja when the five nations finally banded together in the face of the threat to their existence during the Fourth Shinobi War. Where most ninja were paired up with those from other villages in a show of unprecedented trust, the presence of either a Nara or Yamanaka, or both, around any deployed Akimichi gave testament to the strong bonds they shared and the great prowess they as a group demonstrated.
"I hereby swear that, as the head of the Akimichi, I will entrust the oath entrusted to me to the child that will come after me! In order to protect both the Yamanaka and the Nara clans and to protect Konoha, I will now come forth from my chrysalis and as a butterfly— spread my wings!!!"
The era that came after the threat of Kaguya saw the Akimichi’s culinary business expanding rapidly, with their restaurants finding warm welcomes in any corner of the Elemental Continents. Nevertheless, regardless of this, the Akimichi remained faithful to Konoha and her subjects, taking up arms only in her name, and no other, living on as one of the four legendary noble clans of Konohagakure.

Kekkei Genkai Description:
Calorie Control:
The members of the Akimichi clan are born with the powerful ability to convert the calories within their bodies into additional chakra reserves, as well as the ability to manipulate the composition of their bodies in order to stretch, grow or enhance themselves through their various hiden techniques. The full range of changes includes stretching limbs as if made of elastic rubber, increasing weight, density, or durability, and of course increasing the size of appendages. Often these effects are done in concert, with techniques ranging from affecting single limbs to changing their entire body. Most of these techniques rapidly consume chakra, which is why the Akimichi are prone to eating excessive amounts of food, either to build up chakra reserves or replenish their losses. Not to be underestimated, the Akimichi have formidable strength, and rely on that combined with their vast chakra reserves to outlast their opponents. In addition, since their Calorie Control is manipulated through the entire body chemistry, not just the normal chakra pathways, Akimichi clan hiden techniques are unable to be suppressed. However, it should be noted that unlike other body metamorphosis clans, Ie. the Jugo or Kaguya, the Akimichi are unable to warp their body into vastly different form or creating new biological appendages, such as additional limbs, organic weapons, etc.
Caloric Chakra:
For lack of a better name, Caloric Chakra is simply the chakra created by the Akimichi clan through use of their kekkai genkai. It functions the same as the body's natural chakra, and is is a readily accessible secondary reserve of chakra converted from the calories stored in body fat. As a result, Caloric Chakra is always available to the Akimichi, provided they have eaten heavily to build up their calorie reserves. Though all Akimichi share in their kekkai genkai, it requires training before it can properly utilized. Each Ninja Rank has a corresponding Calorie Control rank that can be trained, increasing among other things the reservoir of Caloric Chakra the shinobi can draw upon. Since this chakra is stored as calories, and only converted into chakra as needed it is both unable to be suppressed or drained by any normal means.Sanshoku no Gan'yaku (三色の丸薬, meaning "Three Coloured Pills") refers to the Akimichi clan's secret medicine, known as the Three Coloured Pills. The first is the green Spinach Pill (ホウレン丸, Hōrengan), the second is the yellow Curry Pill (カレー丸, Karēgan), and third is the red Chilli Pill (トンガラシ丸, Tongarashigan). The pills themselves work by forcibly converting the body's fat reserves into chakra, giving the user a massive, but temporary boost to their chakra. Every Akimichi clan member carries a set of the pills with them at all times, though the effects are only useful to those in the clan who have not yet fully mastered their innate Calorie Control. They are used chiefly as a last resort, similar to other clans' and villages' various suicide techniques to keep compromised shinobi from being captured or their bodies taken for medical dissection. The Akimichi believe should they die, it should be standing on their own two feet. Victory or death, and the pills allow them to tap into more of their full potential and hopefully complete their mission or kill their opponent before they succumb to the pill's own effects.
- Calorie Control Ranks:
Rank Description C-Rank
Requires:
Genin
D-Rank
2,000 WC
200 RyoA Genin of the Akimichi clan possesses only limited usage of their Calorie Control, mostly due to their overall limited experience as a shinobi. Initially the conversion of calories into chakra, and the usage of this chakra to enhance their bodies is difficult and taxing. As such, C-Rank Calorie Control users have a pool of only +20 Caloric Chakra available to them. In addition while they are able to, with the prerequisite training, enter Butterfly Mode they do not confer the full bonuses. In order to access Butterfly Mode at its fullest potential, it can only be done through the Three Coloured Pills. B-Rank
Requires:
Chūnin
C-Rank
3,000 WC
400 RyoA Chūnin of the Akimichi clan possesses more honed usage of their Calorie Control, the result of the intensive training needed to attain their current rank. Their bodies are much more accustomed to the conversion of calories into chakra, and its usage comes more naturally to them. As such, B-Rank Calorie Control users have a pool of +30 Caloric Chakra available to them. In addition when entering Butterfly Mode the technique now confers its full range of bonuses. A-Rank
Requires:
Tokujō
B-Rank
4,000 WC
600 RyoA Tokujō of the Akimichi clan possesses seasoned usage of their Calorie Control, the result of years of shinobi training and dozens of successful missions under their belt. Their bodies are now fully accustomed to the conversion of calories into chakra, and its usage comes as natural as breathing to them. As such, A-Rank Calorie Control users have a pool of +40 Caloric Chakra available to them. In addition when using any hiden technique with a duration longer than 1 post, the maximum duration is increased by 1 post, even beyond normal restrictions. S-Rank
Requires:
Jōnin
A-Rank
5,000 WC
800 RyoA Jōnin of the Akimichi clan possesses total mastery of their Calorie Control, the final result of more than a decade of service as a shinobi, hundreds of successful missions, and countless grueling hours spent training. Their bodies are now innately attuned to the conversion of calories into chakra, so much so that they can subconsciously perform life saving hiden techniques even when rendered unconscious. As such, S-Rank Calorie Control users have a the maximum pool of +50 Caloric Chakra available to them. In addition to previously listed bonuses, they also now passively reduce the chakra cost of all hiden techniques by -5 permanently. Tetsu no ken (鉄の拳, meaning "Iron Fists") refers to the Akimichi clan's disposition towards producing shinobi with great physical strength. This natural strength is taken further by their kekkai genkai, which alters the size and weight of their limbs and bodies allowing truly phenomenal displays of might. Furthermore, the Akimichi can augment the muscles in their body with activated chakra, so much so it can be seen visibly radiating from their limbs or in extreme cases causing special markings to appear on the skin across affected regions of the body. Because of this, whenever fighting with Taijutsu or their hiden techniques the Akimichi deal the maximum blunt damage for that rank of technique for free.
- Three Colored Pills:
Name: Three Coloured Pills (三色の丸薬, Sanshoku no Gan'yaku)
Classification: Catalyst
Rank: S
Elemental Alignment: N/A
Quantity: 1 Set
Primary function: The Three Colored Pills allow the Akimichi clan member that consumes them to immediately experience the full effects and benefits of the next tier of Calorie Control from their current Ninja Rank, without needing the prerequisite training. However, this is not without significant drawback. As their body continues to forcibly convert all of its body fat reserves into caloric chakra, the pills will leave the user dangerously emaciated to the point they become incapacitated. On the fourth turn after the three colored pills have been consumed the user will reach the Lethal Damage Threshold and collapse from atrophy. Without immediate intervention by Medical Ninjutsu of equal or greater rank than the tier of Calorie Control the pills activated, the user will die within the night.
Appearance: The Three Colored Pills consists of a small glass case that fits in the palm of a hand. The case has three separate compartments, each housing a different colored pill. The pills themselves are the Green Spinach, Yellow Curry, and Red Chili pills, respectively. Each is the size of a jawbreaker, and a vibrant green, yellow, or red color to connotate their namesake. The pills reportedly taste like the foods of their namesake, and within the pills' capsules is a fine medicinal powder that is a coveted secret medicine of the Akimichi clan.
History: The Three Colored Pills were first developed in the early days of the Akimichi clan's storied history as shinobi. Created as a means to artificially bolster and otherwise supplement the clan's kekkai genkai in dire situations, the three colored pills allowed even inexperienced Akimichi to greatly enhance their fighting prowess in dire situations. Called upon when death or failure of a vital mission is seemingly inevitable, the pills grant the user a final burst of strength in the hopes they will be able to achieve at least a Pyrrhic victory completing their mission or taking their enemies down with them before the pills sap their body's strength and kill them.
Upon forging their sacred bond with the Nara clan, the Three Colored Pills were included into the Nara Clan Medical Encyclopedia after extensive research by the clan itself. In modern times the Three Colored Pills remain an archaic, if necessary part of the Akimichi clan's field kit. While the hope is that they are never needed, the shinobi world is an unkind place. This cementing the pills' importance as a last line of defense for an otherwise beaten Akimichi caught in a life or death struggle.
Hagane Bōheki (鋼防波堤, meaning "Bulwark of Steel") refers to the Akimichi clan's reputation for wearing heavy plate mail armor, not dissimilar to the kind worn by shinobi of the warring states period. Not opposed to more modern designs such as flak jackets, newer forms of protection are often worn in conjunction with older, heavier styled shinobi battle armor. For the Akimichi believe the best offense is a good defense. Akimichi children train heavily in fighting in full armor during their youth, until the point it feels second nature to them. This, combined with the clan's disposition towards great physical strength allows Akimichi clan members to take the Ironclad Major Positive Characteristic as though it takes only 1 of their 3 available Positive Characteristic Slots.
- Ironclad:
Name: Ironclad
Type: Positive (major)
Description: This ninja is almost born with their armor on their body and has trained extensively wearing heavy armor from a young age. The ninja does not accrue negative bonuses to speed while wearing heavy armour.

Description: This ninja is almost born with their armor on their body and has trained extensively wearing heavy armor from a young age. The ninja does not accrue negative bonuses to speed while wearing heavy armour.
Drawbacks:
- Direct Approach: The Akimichi are not known for their subtlety, favoring combat over deception. As a result they are particularly unskilled at dealing with Genjutsu. Whenever they are escaping such illusions, they require pain or kai of 1-rank higher than the Genjutsu's actual rank to do so. In addition to this Akimichi use any technique granting stealth at one rank lower than the listed rank of the jutsu.
- Gluttonous Reputation: The Akimichi are a massive clan of great renown, known to all within Konoha for both their prestige and gluttonous tendencies. It is not uncommon for merchants to hike their prices on items Akimichi show interest in, knowing that members of the clan can often afford even ludicrous markups and typically lack modesty or restraint. Because of this Akimichi clan members must pay an additional 10% Ryo on all item and jutsu purchases.
- Ino–Shika–Chō: The Akimichi clan hold an ancient bond with Nara and Yamanaka clans, vowing to always work together, to protect both the village of Konohagakure and each other. Upon inauguration, heads of the Akimichi clan take up and oath swearing to defend the Nara and Yamanaka with their lives while children of the clan wear earrings that symbolize this lasting friendship. Because of this, Akimichi clan members may not retreat from any battle where Nara or Yamanaka allies are present unless they have retreated first. In addition they require 2 additional social threads per ninja rank in order to rank up, due to their gregarious nature.
- Living Weapons: The Akimichi clan's Kekkai Genkai directly puts their bodies in harm's way with their hiden techniques, both in being strenuous on the body but also by using it as a physical weapon. When strikes and jutsu are used to counter Akimichi hiden techniques, they often harm the user slightly as a result. Although, inversely, any wounds acquired while a limb or the body is expanded will be reduced proportionately when the Akimichi shrinks back down once to normal size once more.
- Traditionalists: The Akimichi are one of the Four Noble Clans that date back to Konohagakure’s founding. Their clan is steeped in history and tradition, and they are very conservative in their views. Their Kekkai Genkai gives Akimichi a natural disposition towards Ninjutsu and Taijutsu, both fundamental to nearly all of their hiden techniques and jutsu. Because of this though, they struggle when moving outside their clan's traditional comfort zone, and incur a 20% word count penalty when learning any jutsu outside the respective Ninjutsu and Taijutsu specializations.
- Sacred Oath: The Akimichi must take the following negative special characteristic, which cannot be balanced with a positive:
- Sacred Oath:
Name: Sacred Oath (Akimichi | Konohagakure)
Type: Negative
Description: This individual has sworn a sacred oath to protect the village of their clan, and boasts undying patriotism for their affiliation. The individual is incapable of, and would never consider defecting from Konohagakure no Sato. In the event of village destruction, the individual may persist as a Ronin or Refugee, but they cannot join another village so long as they have this Special Characteristic. Additionally, they must rejoin Konohagakure as soon as they are able to. This SC can be removed with the Negative SC Removal EP prize.
