The mission sounded simple enough.
Travel to the destination that was specified on the document and erase the existence of an unneeded bridge. Burn it down. Just the thought of setting fire to the bridge made Teru shiver. The chill traveled from the base of her spine and up to her neck. This thrill was not stemming from fear. No. It was great excitement. As a ninja, she had done many things in her life that required the destruction of something. Although, now that she thought about it, she had never broke a bridge down to bits and pieces. Teru studied the mission details for a moment and sighed. "How should I go about doing this?" she wondered to herself and folded the paper to the smallest size it could be, slipping it into a safe place on her person. Burning it down was simple enough. Teru Uchiha was, after all, a specialist in the element of fire. She had the jutsu for casting flames onto the bridge. That would, however, be a long and slow process. If she was in possession of explosives, then this task would be as easy as cutting paper with scissors.
As quickly as she had gotten to the mission board, Teru was on her way out the door and traveling down the road. She walked along through the wilderness, whistling a simple tune to herself as she made her way to the destination that was some miles from the border. It was a bright and sunny day, perfect for strolling outside. The sun remained high in the blue sky, even after an hour ticked by. At the end of that hour, Teru arrived at the chosen bridge. "This is it?" she blinked, gazing upon the structure with unimpressed eyes. Actually, she appeared more disgusted than anything. The bridge was in terrible condition, yet it still stood. The materials used for building the bridge did, however, look quite poor in quality. In some places, pieces of wood stuck out awkwardly. It was terribly done, and certainly deserved to be taken down. Ah, but it was also mentioned in the document that there were builders trying to repair bridges that were already destroyed. This had to have been one of them, but they lacked in the supplies that would make it durable and proud.
Teru glanced around the area, and then she perched herself on top of a nearby boulder near the start of the bridge. The resistance had not yet arrived, but she was ready for them. She closed her eyes and tilted her head back. They will be here shortly, she thought. In a matter of minutes, there was a ding inside Teru's mind. It occurred when a brief rumbling in the area sounded before suddenly stopping. She opened her eyes and blinked a couple of times to adjust them as the light poured into her pupils. Teru brought her head down and hung her legs over the side of the boulder. No fear. No intimidation. There was no need for her to get up and run away, back to the village. She had a reason for waiting rather than going ahead with destroying the bridge before they arrived. This was one of the moments her training had prepared her for. "It's about time," Teru mumbled to herself as the foes pointed their swords and spears at her. They all stood a good distance from her, which gave her enough room to move around.
The mercenaries had the advantage in terms of numbers. All eight of them stood in front of Teru, ready to harm her, or worse. They were much older than Teru, almost middle-aged. Looks of hate and intent to kill. Teru sighed and stood up from her seat on the boulder. "Don't you move!" the lead mercenary shouted at her, threatening to pierce her flesh with the blade of his katana. Teru raised a brow, interested in the fact that he was daring enough to threaten her. She was brave enough to act daringly against them, and the Chuunin took a step forward towards the group. "Did you not hear me? I told you not to move, brat!" It was a threat that would more than likely be backed with harsh actions. Such was to be expected from mercenaries. They did whatever they could for the pay. Nonetheless, Teru stood her ground in spite of the disadvantage she was at. "If you cherish your life, you'll do as I say and leave this place. The bridge is not going down!"
Was it really a disadvantage?
While they all had their own skills, so did Teru. There were so many things she could do to them with her own, two hands. Teru raised her left hand and pressed it against the side of her head. Her index and middle fingers tapped against her temple, and her thumb rested under the eyelid of her eye while the other fingers curled together. "I did hear you," Teru smirked, and narrowed her eyes. The smirk on her face eventually twisted into a grin as the hazel color of her eyes faded. In mere seconds, her eyes turned to red, as scarlet as the blood of her enemies. All of the mercenaries watched on in silence, refusing to be scared off by the change in her eyes. The single tomoes in each eye swirled in orbit around the pupils. Teru's Sharingan was active now, and she was about to make her move against the enemy. From behind the mercenaries, the bridge builders trembled in their boots. But, Teru paid no mind to them at the moment. Her full attention was on the ones trying to jab at her with weapons. "Let me ask you this. I don't care if one or all of you answer me... Heck, none of you have to answer if you don't want to. Do you enjoy living your lives in this land?"
"You piece of...Take this!" One of the mercenaries to the right of the leader growled, and he charged ahead of the others to attack Teru. He wielded an impressive spear, but it missed its target the during the first time it tried to stab her. Teru ducked and put her hands together, forming a hand sign. She sucked in a load of oxygen, bringing in as much air as she possibly could hold. Chakra flowed inside her lungs, too, and molded inside until Teru exhaled. Fire Style: Great Fireball Jutsu! A massive ball of fire took them all by surprise. The man who was in the process of attacking Teru was caught inside the fireball, carried off away from her. Anyone and everyone behind him ran for cover as their ally burst into flames. He was a dead man now, and the others were suffering from only minor injuries.
Teru furrowed her brows and shook her head. She moved passed the mercenaries, shoving one of the bridge builders to the ground when he tried to hurt her. To the bridge she went. "You know what?" Teru stopped 10 feet from the bridge and breathed a sigh of frustration. "I'm not going to waste my time on you idiots. I have a mission to complete. This bridge is going down." She studied the wooden posts that helped with keeping the bridge up. They were almost rotted! It amused her a little, but she could only wonder why they would dare use rotted posts for a bridge. Someone could die crossing it. Taking out one of her kunai, Teru repeatedly stabbed it into each one. It was easy removing them from there, but that did not finish the job. No. So, she inhaled more air and chakra to perform another fire technique. Fire Style: Phoenix Flower Jutsu! Small fireballs flew out and homed in on the target bridge. All across it, flames burst and consumed the bridge in pieces. The fire spread and made sure to devour much of the structure.
The thrill excited Teru. This was her first time destroying a bridge, and it was worth it. Despite the fact that they would work on rebuilding it again, Teru was pleased with her work. She cracked her knuckles and turned on her heels to return to the village. The mission, as far as she was concerned, was completed and it was time to report to the village. On her way back, she pondered over how the people she left behind would take the situation. They had taken some time to try and rebuild before, and they were going to have to do it again. Perhaps they would try to use better materials than what they had used this time around. Such a curious thought. Well, if that does happen, she would be back to put a stop to it. This was a lot of fun for her. Although, she took it as a sign of her becoming a pyromaniac... Unthinkable.
