1 Gate Duty [C rank/Mission] Wed Aug 24, 2016 10:14 am
Ren Sabaku
D-rank
Another heat filled and groggy day in the village, the very humidity and moisture of all the ground rose up in streams, distorting the view of anything more than a few meters away. Ren was dressed fully to boot, pants and long sleeves and closed toe shoes, a veil on top of that of all neutral to light colors as she avoided the sunlight for more than instances at a time. Today she was fulfilling her time as a gate attendant for the village, checking people in as they would arrive if any at all and sending them on their way. Others joined her and patrolled around, genin and chuunin a like, even a few ANBU showed up early in the morning.
Wooden amenities and a few stamps and other bits of paper lay around, Ren sat carefully on guard chatting with a fellow who sat next to her. Others mostly came and went, would take small breaks and then continue on with whatever tasks they were assigned, but for the most part, it had been a very quiet day. A couple hours had passed on that calm morning, the sun beginning to beat down as the first travelers arrived at the village gate. Ren and the other turned their attention quickly as they arrived, four people in total with a caravan pulled by an heavy set ox as well. Ren stood up along with her comrade and approached them, having them stop just outside the great sand wall of the village and checking through them.
First, the pair took their identification cards and set them aside, to be verified and confirmed as allowed to enter the village and log them in as well. Ren volunteered for this short task as the other boy agreed to search through their cargo and verify nothing illicit or dangerous was accompanying in their travels. For her friend, a bit of heckling and questioning at what he was doing came along while Ren merely marked their names and origins down in the log and heard out the story from the alleged leader of their group. Nothing more than traders traveling around through the land of wind to sell their goods and trade and barter their way through. Being relative natives each of differing nearby towns and villages, they didn't seem to pose any major threat to the village.
With the okay from her partner, Ren handed back their ID's and sent them on their way, giving them directions for outside the bazaar and whom to talk to in order to rent out a space if they wanted. When they departed, it was time for Ren to return to the menial task of waiting around for something else to happen. Shuffling what papers she had and sliding the registry of the village's new guests into a folder to be turned in once her shift was over and whatever else any of the village higher ups would decide to do with that information... it didn't really matter to her as she was mainly just interested in making sure no criminals made it in or anything of that nature. As long as that condition was met, there was nothing to really worry about here.
Another hour or so passed, a few shinobi and kunoichi returned to the village from various tasks and missions. Their ID's and chakra were easy enough to check and mark down as returned, though Ren severely underestimated how much paperwork there would be to just running the village's gates and such. But, it is the territory of bureaucracy in the end, something that Ren would never get much of a taste or enjoyment from, even in the end of it all. The next wonderful souls to approach the gate would be a couple of indiscriminate nature, meaning that they didn't display the clothing or symbols of any village or clan that she could identify at least.
Back to the grind, Ren and the other guard stood up and stopped them as well, just outside the sand wall to go through the same process that they had been all morning. A rather snotty couple inherent, and both of them obviously dating or together or whatever it would be in whatever form they had made it to. It was rather annoying as Ren went through their paperwork and marked everything down as she had been all morning. They yelled and swooned over each other through the whole process as Ren tediously marked things through. It didn't appear they were from anywhere in the Land of Wind that Ren recognized, but instead, from a nearby minor village of some kind. On a vacation of some sorts? Her comrade pulled from them, perhaps a honey moon of some sort or something like that. Though there were probably better and more sightly places than Sunagakure no Sato to go visit and such.
Ren brought back their cards to them and handed them over as they snatched them from her hands. Well, the woman did so and the man laughed at the notion along with it as Ren exhaled lightly. They let them through, reluctantly, and left the lectures for some other time perhaps, though, they saved any advice they might have passed on about where to go and what to see. Surely they were confident enough that they could figure it out themselves, assuming that they made it through the village long enough and didn't get lost in any of the slums or crime filled places of the village.
With all of that done and taken care of, Ren gathered up the paperwork and sorted it into the folder. Thanking the other guard and waving good bye as she took the folder and went to the administration building to turn in said paperwork before heading to the missions office and report her guard duty all completed. All in all, for such a heat filled day, it wasn't too bad, at least she didn't have to spend it alone and had company throughout most of it. Even if it was absolutely unbearable outside as far as the atmosphere went, at least she would be done and free to head home in like twenty minutes. After a begrudgingly long trek through the village again to finish her paperwork...
