Clan History: The Hagoromo were around during the Warring Period. Long before even the thought of hidden villages existed. During this time, they were a strong ally to the Uchiha clan and often fought against the Senju. Holding their own, the Senju grew to be bitter towards the Hagoromo and vice versa, though never to the extent of the Uchiha and Senju rivalry. Even though they weren’t as bitter of enemies against the Senju, the Hagoromo still dealt heavy blows against them. The real irony of it all was the Hagoromo were more closely related to the Senju than to the Uchiha. As their name claims, they hail from the Hagoromo Otsutsuki family branch. While not as pure, this lineage gives them great pride in their ancestry as well as in their natural-born gifts.
As the Warring Period was mainly of clans being hired out to protect various lands, there was quite often the case of moving around. This was also the case for the Hagoromo, as their strength soon garnered the attention of lords needing protection from other great shinobi clans. By the time that countries were putting together shinobi villages akin to the first one made by the Senju and Uchiha clans, the Hagoromo had moved all the way up into the Land of Lightning. Because of this, the clan decided to join up with the other clans to create the Village Hidden in the Clouds. There they stayed as a crucial founding clan to the village, cementing their necessary status in the village’s hierarchy of powerful clans, as well as keeping their reputation strong throughout the shinobi world.
As time moved on, the clan’s unique abilities were called upon by the village in times of war and crises so often that it became a terrible crutch. As all crutches live the same life, eventually the wear and tear put the Hagoromo clan in a very weak and vulnerable state. Such a state was brought upon the clan after the Third Great Shinobi War. In a terrible onslaught brought upon the Hidden Cloud in the Battle for Takabuya Bridge in which they lost to the Hidden Leaf, cost the Hagoromo Clan dearly. Having been placed in such high esteem, a large portion of the Hidden Cloud’s forces were purely Hagoromo. After the great defeat at Takabuya Bridge, the clan was never in a great number again as its losses from the battle, coupled with the war, essentially dwindled their number by seventy-five percent.
After the war’s end, the clan began to fall under heavy criticism by the village for their massive failure at Takabuya Bridge, often assumed to be the turning point in the war that nailed the Hidden Cloud to its coffin. While the fight against the Hidden Leaf ended with the solution of the Hyuga Affair, the Hidden Cloud was not strong enough to win its face-off with the Hidden Rock, instead losing territory that would later become a minor nation after the war’s end in armistice.
The heavy criticism sparked resentment among the clan against the village, knowing how they helped create the village, fought for the village, and now had proven they would die for the village even if it threatened their continuing line. This last mindset was soon changed, instead raising the clan’s priorities above the village’s. During the years after the Third Shinobi World War, the Hagoromo began isolating themselves from the village in social contexts, while still performing tasks for the village. In the few months just prior to the Fourth Shinobi World War, the clan began to revitalize its weekly meetings, claiming to the village that it was part of their worship rituals to honor their patron of Mother Nature and the Sun. From these meetings, a plan was hatched to try a coup d’etat against the ruling party of the Hidden Cloud. This plan was delayed by lack of votes among the clan, only to win the vote during the Five Kage Summit. The plan was hatched to attack once the Raikage returned, however, the plan quickly was put aside once the announcement of a fourth war breaking out against Madara Uchiha.
After the Fourth Shinobi World War was over, the agitation against the village leaders was forgotten. Instead, the clan had a renewed vision of helping maintain peace for the village. Their actions following the war granted them new praise from the other clans of the village, and soon their social standing had recovered to its past heights. However, to this day the clan has yet to fully regain in number, as families of the clan have stayed relatively small since the Third Great Ninja War. While remaining in good standing within the village, the clan still has regular weekly meetings, still disguised as rituals for the clan and thus completely hidden from the village’s eyes. The Hagoromo elders still caution the clan to be wary about the village as the past had shown they would only be accepted as long as they proved to be useful.
At an in-depth look, nearly all of the clan was noted to take a moment after a conclusion of a battle to mourn over any harm or destruction done to nature more so than even mourning to other comrades’ death. The exception to this would be the death of a clan member, as the bond of family is very strong and the roots branch through all the levels of the clan. When a clan member dies, they lay the body in a river or lake and let him/her return to nature. This familial bond is also noticed to show the high likelihood of Hagoromo keeping their bloodline pure.
Kekkei Genkai Description: The Hagoromo are called Nature’s Beloved for their fascinating traits which seem to stem from a symbiotic relationship with the natural world. Firstly, they have been known for their eye’s ability to see clearly at night as during the day, even with no moon out. Having descended from Hagoromo’s lineage, and thus having themselves be his namesake, they have the unique ability of ecological empathy. They are physically, emotionally, and/or mentally in synch with environment, which allows them to perceive and understand not only what happens in nature but if it is in harmony with natural order.
A naturally falling tree or predator catching their prey in a nearby forest would be felt by the user, leaving them feeling calmly relieved. Unnaturally, would leave the user sickened. The reason behind their empathetic feelings to nature is because they also respond to direct sunlight in the same way of plants and the process of photosynthesis (indirect sunlight doing nothing). The difference between the clan and plants being that their natural process of photosynthesis helps them recover from wounds over time. How this functions is shown below:
Solar Healing chart:
- At D-Rank/Genin
- 2 posts in the sunlight = 1 D rank wound healed
- 3 posts in the sunlight = 2 D rank wounds healed (or 1 C rank wound)
*Note: The healing process works in sequential order, the body focuses on the first wound received, then the second, third, etc. When 2 wounds of the same rank occur, and it’s within the ability to be healed, the two are healed together (according to the chart). Healing always happens on the post following the post where the wound was received.
Drawbacks:
- As their bodies are so closely tied to nature, they receive +1 damage from Katon techniques.
- As fire is the ultimate destruction of nature, they can never learn Katon as an element.
- Wounds made by a Katon technique take 1 post longer to heal through photosynthesis or +10 chakra required if being healed by a Medical technique.
- Due to the body’s photosynthetic healing process, it resists healing medical ninjutsu. Thus medical ninjutsu must be 1 rank higher - HEALING TECHS ONLY).
- Due to their strong connection with nature, the Hagoromo are greatly affected by the state of nature. If nature is thriving, a Hagoromo would be in high spirits. If nature is suffering, a Hagoromo would be in low spirits. In accordance to this, threats to nature are taken personally upon a Hagoromo member to which they feel obligated to act upon if physically able.

Description: A secret of the Hagoromo clan, the user is able to communicate with nature around them. The higher the rank, the larger amount of nature the user can hear. Through this communication, nature can inform the user of the state of his/her environment. However the user only senses the natural life around him/her through this to simply open up communications with nature.
