Formerly a mercenary samurai clan, the Ryuzoji clan joined Kumogakure shortly after its establishment. Ever wary of the warring world’s power swings the Ryuzoji could sense that the age of the samurai was swiftly coming to an end with the emergence and subsequent increased demand for shinobi and soon adopted the shinobi way of life in Kumogakure. During their assimilation into the shinobi lifestyle and combat system it was discovered that members of the Ryuzoji clan are generally genetically predisposed to a lightning element affinity. In their reverence for their clan’s history it is required of every member of the Ryuzoji clan to study kenjutsu from a young age along with the shinobi skills taught within the village, though the exact style of kenjutsu is their own choice. All members of the Ryuzoji clan must take Inheritance upon character creation and take a sword of some kind. Katanas are preferable (wakizashis if your character is smaller), but I won't press the issue too much.

The Ryuzoji clan traditionally follows a Shintoist belief system that emphasizes long periods of meditation. This meditation is often done with one’s sword laid unsheathed across their lap to represent their “oneness” with their blade that their samurai history dictates be treated as an extension of one’s self. It was during one such meditation that members of the clan began to become more sensitive to the electric signals and currents of their surroundings. Valuing it as a treasure, it has become customary for all members of the Ryuzoji clan to undergo the same meditative training in order to obtain that same sensory ability. The time it takes for each Ryuzoji to obtain the ability may vary widely and has such become a point of conflict within the clan, with only the clan’s main branch consistently producing shinobi able to master it at a young age. The members able to grasp the gift at a young age are regarded throughout the clan as geniuses and are often given more privilege within the clan, drawing the disdain of those who do not take to it so quickly or at all. The ability and as a result the meditative training have been closely guarded from outsiders by the clan since its creation and under the current head of the clan leaking of information regarding the process is treated as treason and punishable to both the informer and informant by death.

The Ryuzoji clan’s expertise in the field of electricity has propelled many of the clan’s leaders and more skilled shinobi to high ranking positions in Kumogakure’s medical corp. as electrotherapy and electricity based medical jutsu specialists and also the village’s special ops as master interrogators. The highest ranking members of the clan in each respective field are the clan’s current head, Ryuzoji Ieyasu as a chief interrogator in Kumorgakure’s intelligence corp. and his younger brother, Ryuzoji Hideki as a chief medical ninja in Kumogakure’s medical division. Their perceived value as specialists has resulted in the vast majority of the clan’s shinobi taking up these specialized positions as opposed to more combat orientated fields.

Twice in the Ryuzoji’s tenure in Kumogakure have internal power struggles resulted in civil war within the clan. The first such occurrence was shortly after the clan first joined Kumogakure. A branch of the clan refused to adapt to a shinobi way of life they deemed cowardly and demanded that the current clan head relinquish his position and commit seppuku for having turned his back on the Bushido code, the clan head refused. The diverging branch then rallied all within the clan that would support their cause (a number equaling one-third of the total clan) and offered the remainder three days to either join their side or overthrow the current head themselves before they would attack. This instability lead others in the village to begin doubting the loyalty of the Ryuzoji clan and prompted the current head to take action. On the second day he broke the truce and led an all-out assault on the dissenting camp with the aid of mercenaries, it was a massacre. Not a soul was left standing of the dissenters. Every man woman and child had been cut down and left for their bodies to rot without being given funeral rites, the message was clear as to the clan’s stance on mutiny. The second such event took place during the tenure of the previous clan head, Ryuzoji Yamada. Weary of the tyranny of the head branch Yamada’s younger brother organized and led a revolt, this time with one quarter of the clan supporting the rebellion. Though the time and situation had changed the result was the same, absolute slaughter of the rebels. It is said that throughout the Ryuzoji’s entire history, dating back before the founding of the shinobi villages, the main branch has never once lost its grip on its authority. For as long as its history has been recorded, internal power struggles have plagued the Ryuzoji clan, but the outcome is always the same, as unchanging as the mountains in which they now dwell. As previous clan head and father of the current clan head, Ryuzoji Yamada now enjoys the benefits of quite a bit of political clout within the Lightning nation. In his old age he sits on both the advisement council for the Raikage and the daimyo of the Lightning nation. The Raikage knows that Yamada is an ambitious and unscrupulous man and that his sons have inherited his will, but given the Ryuzoji clan’s wealth and influence with the daimyo he/she knows that it would be impossible to remove him from his position without serious political backlash on the village. Therefore the Raikage must turn a blind eye to Yamada’s power plays… for now.

Description: The core of the Ryuzoji clan kkg and fighting style. Current perception allows the user to sense, analyze, and locate electricity in all forms within their sensory range. Current Perception as a whole consists of four different “ranges” or modes that the user has access to suited to different situations. However, only one such “range” can be active at any given time. While the potency of ranges remains static, their ranges become greater as the user's master increases.

Description: The user flows chakra into any weapons they are wielding (in hand) while this jutsu is in effect. The weapon is coated in raiton chakra, making it appear as though lighting has enveloped the weapon. The added raiton chakra enhances the destructive capabilities of said weapons, causing each strike to release a blast of electricity, shocking anyone that comes into contact with it, inflicting minor second degree burns and sending objects/people flying back 5m. The weapons however must remain in contact with the user for the jutsu to empower them. If at any point contact is broken, the weapon will lose its buff. In addition, should the weapon come in contact with a surface, it will release an invisible current of electricity that “sticks” to the surface it strikes and anything in contact with it for the next 5 posts.

Description: A jutsu that was created to be used exclusively as a combination jutsu with other raiton techniques. While useless by itself, this jutsu allows the user to discharge another one of their raiton bukijutsu techniques within the jutsu’s range. The user causes the raiton chakra concentrated into their weapon to discharge violently, sending arcs of lightning forth in all directions (1m radius for a D-Rank jutsu, +1m for every rank above D). The lightning damage is scaled to the strength of the jutsu discharged -1. When used with a jutsu of B-Rank or higher the raiton will also stun targets hit for a single post.

Description: The user thrusts their weapon into a surface and proceeds to release a powerful surge of lightning through that surface, destroying and upturning it. The lightning covers the entire 15m radius and up to 20m below the surface. The surge of lightning will deal 2nd degree burns and shock damage to anyone in or standing on the surface other than the user his/herself and temporarily stun them (only long enough for the next step to take effect, not for an entire post). The violent eruption of the ground will also send any opponents standing on the surface flying skyward up to 10m and those within the surface will be buried underneath the destroyed rubble and debris, suffering deep bruises and even broken bones if they were 10m or more below the surface due to being crushed by the rubble.
