What had once been a quiet unassuming beach in Kirigakure had become something of a hotbed for insomniac sojourners. The first arrival on this strange tableau had been Tianlan Se Long (Better known as DI the grandson of the great dragon king Bailong. Next came Kirei Uchiha heir to the infamous Uchiha clan and partner to a lauded hound of great intellegence. The third actor in this drama was a Suiko – a close relative of the common river kappa though much larger and with a foul disposition. The last player who had yet to reveal himself was an adolescent Ikuchi, also known as an oil serpent, who had decided he was going to eat everyone on the beach, including the Suiko.

As the Suiko lumbered through the sands it eyed up Di and Kirei with malicious intent. When the creature spoke it sounded like the gurgling of a sink-hole ready to drown unwary children at any moment.

“Well well look at what we have here. A little dragonling prince so very far away from his big brothers and sisters. I always fancied killing a dragon. When you grow big and old you like to order us around but you ain't quite there yet are you little worm? Oh and it seems you have a friend with you. A human and an Uchiha brat at that. I bet your surprised I know what you little ninja clans are. Well you see there was this ninja woman real pretty sort and one day she was out on a boat I capsized it and reached right up her backside to rip out her shirikodama. Now her soul lives in my stomach and I know everything she does.”

All through this monologue the Suiko had been moving closer and closer. Now it sprung towards Di and Kirei slashing out with it's claws. Di who had spun to face the creature during it's little speech quickly darted back narrowly avoiding the the talon swipe aimed at him. The creature would continue forward it's claws aimed at Kiri. No sooner had the first beast attacked then the second creature came out of the water.

Unlike the Suiko which resembled a large humanoid turtle with tigers fur growing at odd intervals from between it's scales this had nothing of the hominid about it's physiology. Around 18 feet long the Ikuchi was a true sea-serpent albeit a young one. It's most notable feature was the vent like openings along it's body that even now expelled a slick carpet of oil as it moved allowing it swift passage along the beach.

Smelling like kerosene the fumes from the serpent hinted at extreme flammability. Di torn between the two creatures made a quick decision. Welling chakra into his hands he formed a ball of chi and fired it towards the Suiko's back with the intent of knocking it's attack of course allowing Kirei a better chance to at fending off the creature. That done Di turned to the oncoming serpent ready to deal with whatever attacks it might bring to bear

When the Suiko ascended from the ocean onto the shoreline, Kirei was startled. He'd never seen a creature like this before and, in truth, was not well learned in matters of the occult. To the Uchiha, this beast was completely alien, and unlike anything, he'd come across in his travels so far. He squinted his eyes, reactivating his Sharingan to observe their assailant thoroughly. The thing looked strong, much more robust than anything Kirei was used to fighting anyway, and as it waded into the open, the boy was surprised to hear it begin to speak. Gutteral drawl mixed with seafoam gargle while the Suiko spat its venomous monologue at the duo who listened on as it threatened them viciously. Indeed this was a horrid spirit most foul and filled with hatred.

In a flash, the thing lunged toward them, and Di managed to evade while allowing Kirei to get into a position of readiness. Without continuing forward at the evasive Di, the Suiko turned its ire to the young Uchiha, unleashing a series of strikes with its burly arms for the boy's head and torso. Instinct gripped the male's body, and he brought his right forearm to meet the first blow but was racked with pain without delay. The Suiko was much stronger than the young Uchiha, knocking him to the ground with just the first blow and letting out a triumphant roar of laughter as it advanced. Raising both arms and clasping its hands together the thing came down hard for Kirei's body but met with only sand as the Uchiha rolled left and sprung up, standing.

Kirei could barely judge the form of whatever second terror lumbered forth onto the shore as he was beset upon still by his chief assailant. He would only see the oily tide spread across the beach by the flailing serpentine form in the background. Kirei's eyes would dart rapidly between each of the Suiko's joints as it approached, trying to predict its method of attack. Meanwhile, he would grab a shuriken strung with wire in his right hand and charge forward, raising his left arm as if to strike but at the last minute pulling it back to his mouth and performing a half-hand seal. Breathing deep, he'd tuck and roll between the Suiko's leg, catching its ankle in his wire as he slid past.

With a powerful tug, Kirei would spin his body and plant the heel of his boot into the sand, pulling with all his might at the Suiko's ankle. The forward momentum combined with Kirei's strength was enough to send the water-dweller toppling into the oily sand closer to the water. Still holding his breath, Kirei would struggle to hold back the chakra in his lungs any longer, spitting a barrage of fireballs from his lips in the direction of the opponent he'd been unceremoniously assigned. The target for the fire was not the Suiko but rather the gasoline smelling coating being spewed forth by whatever creature poor Di was likely to have his hands full with by now.

In a flash, an arc of flame ignited across the sand, engulfing the beast Kirei was fighting in bright light. He foolishly let himself sigh with relief before he saw a dastardly silhouette between the roaring fire. Kirei whipped the cable in his hands and brought back his shuriken, muttering 'shit' under his breath and preparing for round two.

Things had progressed to a state of utter bedlam. The peaceful and lonesome night that had once been was but a distant memory as flames roared across the beach. Kirei was now faced with the burning form of the suiko and Di had the equally as deadly shape of the Ikuchi snapping at his face. Fast footwork saved his hide for a few seconds but the ground was so damn slippery Di ended up pitching himself down into the sands. The flames from Kirei's attack were now rushing across the entire beach and if Di had been a moment slower in yanking his head up from the sands he would likely have suffered terrible burns to the face.

The Ikuchi being the prime source of the oil inevitably felt the searing wrath of the blaze too. A liquid trail lead up to one of it's many nozzles and caught its midsection ablaze. Becoming crazed in pain the creature writhed and lashed out at whatever it could smashing into pieces of driftwood rocks and narrowly missing Di's midsection. Di was going to have to stop the beasts movement quickly or the inferno would continue unabated and possibly spread up from the beach into Kirigakure proper.

Di channeled chakra into his fist. This time he would not send it out in the shape of a ball like he had for his last attack but rather use it to enhance his physical strength in hopes of driving the serpent back into the sea. It had to be a hit to the head as smashing the things flaming body would do little but merely agitate the reptile more. The ophidian countenance swung like a pendulum caught in an earthquake left then right. Saying a quick prayer to the most august and benevolent personage among his ancestors – the primordial dragon god Huanglong known to the humans as Koryu Di struck.

It seemed that his prayers had reached the ears of his eminent ancestor for the blow struck true striking the serpent right in it's filthy head. Reeling back from the strike the aquatic creature rolled into the encroaching tides. Oil that would have further fuelled the beaches blaze was now dragged out by the tide where it burned atop the ocean like corpse lights departing a ghost ship. Retaining some of it's composure now that the cooling water was removing the napalm like substance from it's body the Ikuchi spat something from the glands of it's mouth towards Di. Not quite expecting such a quick recovery Di was caught off guard by the manoeuvre and cried out in shock and pain when a liquid that was likely some form of acid burned at his shoulder.

Tearing the shirt from his back Di immediately began to use his cape to remove the corrosive substance from his skin. The damn Ikuchi had more chemicals inside it than an the refuge of a mad alchemist. Di hoped that Kirei was faring okay in his battle with the Suiko – the Ikuchi was a mere beast but the large breed of kappa were true sadists by nature .

In the heat of the moment, Kirei considered how things had gone so horribly awry. He'd only ever used this quiet bay as a solo training spot, and before now he hadn't seen so much as a fish. In mere moments tonight, he'd met an actual dragon, been assaulted by a sadistic fish tiger, ignited the oil of a second opportunistic sea serpent, and was now staying light on his feet in anticipation of fighting against a Suiko who was now ablaze and unable to withhold itself. Letting out a string of curses, the venomous bile it would spew forth didn't even bear repeating in Kirei's own head. Instead, he stayed still and ready.

From the flames, the Suiko charged forward and swung for the boy again. Armed with the knowledge he would be unable to block, Kirei would opt for swift dodges instead. In addition to its strength, the Suiko was fast, swiping for the Uchiha rapidly, claws managing to rend away the fabric of his poncho. Backpedaling wouldn't get Kirei to victory, so instead, he would ready a Kunai and come forward into the singed monster, holding the knife outwards towards the oncoming hand which aimed to tan his hide so the Suiko's own strength would impale it on the sharp utensil. This strategy was not without its own risk, putting himself in this position meant being dangerously close to a threat which overpowered him immensely, and it also meant he had to take the full force of at least one blow to his arm. Using his left hand to steady himself, the strength of the Suiko was still enough to push Kirei's arms violently into his body and send him flying towards the sand.

As he left his feet, Kirei would channel a small amount of his chakra into the kunai still embedded into the hand of his foe. The Suiko reeled back with pain, clutching and pulling at the knife which refused to budge due to Kirigakure's serrated design. The Uchiha scrambled to his feet, gripping a fistful of shuriken and throwing six in total towards the Suiko, two would miss entirely while four found their mark, lodging into the thing across its body. Kirei's eyes darted left and right to check for obstacles, and then his lips twisted upward into a smirk as he reached out, gripping the wires attached to his projectiles, which had been all but invisible until now.

Concerned about its own pain, the Suiko wouldn't notice Kirei begin to run left, making a swift circle around it. The wires themselves would enter its vision entirely too late, only after Kirei made his first full lap would the Suiko take note of the metal cables being strung taut around its body. The boy continued his run, aiming to ensnare the thing before it could get a good struggle going. The plan was all set, all that was left would be to find a sufficient opening. As his spiral continued in towards the Suiko with the shortening length of wire, the Uchiha got where he wanted to be and severed the trap himself. Struggling against the binding, the Suiko would begin snapping the cables one by one but Kirei only needed a moment. His hands flashed in a blur of hand seals and he started to breathe in deep.

Having rid his shoulder of the corrosive liquid Di surveyed the Ikuchi. The monster – clearly a lunatic even among it's own kind did not know when to quit. Even as Di caught his breath the creature was beginning to slither back up through the waves towards the beach ready to give the sand another good dousing with it's oil even though doing so once had already resulted in it burning itself quite badly. Di shook his head. This was a whole new level of persistence than any he had ever seen before. Reaching down to the ground beside himself Di found a small jagged rock of about the size one might murder their brother with in a fit of jealous rage if they were so inclined.

Gritting his teeth Di dived head-first into the waves. Getting ahold of the snake was tricky enough due to it's oily secretions but this was a do or die scenario as the flames on the beach could easily turn the entire area into an inferno unless the creature was stopped here. Raising the jagged rock Di brought it down on the area of flesh that had had the scales burned from it by the fire. Lacking the armoured protection of the rest of it's body and being already tenderised from the intense heat the incision was easy to make. A cloud of pale pink blood began to seep out into the ocean blooming into flower like eddys.

Again Di raised the rock and brought it down widening the gash till the water became thick with the pale blood. Striking out with it's head the Ikuchi attempted to latch onto Di's shoulder. Dreading what would follow if this came to pass Di lashed out with the rock catching it on the side of the head and turning aside it's blow. There was a faint movement in the water and Di at once felt a surge of terror and relief. It looked like his plan was going according to schedule – of course if he got the timing wrong here it would be as deadly for the young detective as the snake. A final time the rock gouged the gaping wound and the blood was now so thick it obscured all vision beneath the waves. Di didn't need to see though to know that the hungry sharks already alerted by the heat radiating from the beach had caught onto the blood in the water and were swarming to get a taste of whatever they could get their jaws on.

Splashing back Di broke from the water just as a finned form attacked the sea-serpent followed by a several more. Under normal circumstances the Ikuchi would be the one preying on the sharks but this Ikuchi was young and wounded. The sharks could taste the blood and sense the weakness and with great gusto they fell upon the serpent tearing and gnashing with razor sharp teeth until the creature was little more than chum floating upon the waves.

His fight over Di turned to see if Kirei needed any help.

The bound Suiko stood no chance. A pure rush of flame had wounded it earlier but what Kirei was about to do dwarfed that pathetic blaze. His lungs at capacity, chakra spun into a roil of burning Katon which he prepared to exhale. The Great Fireball, on its own, was a useful tool for raw damage but Kirei's Sharingan brought a new dimension to its usage. Imperfect was the boy's art of copying his own techniques utilizing the Dojutsu's visual prowess, but it would do. With two half-tiger hand seals, he would exhale an enormous amount of flame towards the unsuspecting assailant who was still struggling free from its bondage.

The inferno was nothing if not impressive, one technique projected as a sphere of blinding flame while the other was sprayed across the area with abandon. The blaze illuminated the entire bay, making visual the observers who lurked beneath the water's surface, intimidating them. Lights danced, shadows crawling towards the forest wall dozens of meters away while Kirei's blonde mane emanated a white halo as it caught the light of his Fire Style combo. This dual casting was a technique Kirei was still developing, trying to bring to perfection in the first step towards awakening the true power of the Copy Wheel Eye.

At the center of the attack, the poor Suiko screamed and swore back at the boy, fur and skin burning severely while it scrambled towards the nearby water. The boy's ribs ached, but he kept up the offensive, pushing the monster back into the sea before cutting the light short and inhaling sharply. The boy's new companion arose from his battle at the moment the Suiko finally retreated, and he would be greeted to burning sands and grass, steam wafting into the cold air en masse across the shoreline. It would be immense to behold, luminescence fading from the area around the Uchiha, whose eyes would now fade back to their dull black shade with Sharingan deactivated. With no regard for decency, Kirei spat onto the beach, discharge stained black with ash from his extended exhalation.

"Holy shit, that's way better than training solo," Kirei muttered to himself before taking a seat in the sand, which was still warm to the touch. The air around smelled of ash and kerosene, Kirei knew the sensation well. Countless hours breathing fire gave him an intimate connection with the otherwise inhospitable stench of Katon aftermath. "Appreciate the help. Be here tomorrow; this is the best training I've had all week."

The eager shinobi would be off then, having caught enough of his breath to dart away into the treeline and vanished from view. He made his way towards the city barely able to contain his excitement; he was still shaking, so he ran instead of navigating the treetops. The night's events came out of nowhere but Kirei already had an idea how to pivot them into a new goal. His focus was already on a thought burning in the back of his mind. To the boy's side, his faithful dog would peer towards him from time to time, examining his face in an attempt to understand the boy's underlying emotions. Yuji knew Kirei well, but even the wise Hound wouldn't be prepared for what the Uchiha had in store.
