There was no way this was going to be anything but an uncomfortable assignment. Not here. Kyohei absolutely detested hospitals, he had ever since he was a kid. As far as he was concerned, hospitals and doctors were nothing but bearers of bad news. He only had negative experiences with hospitals. To him the cold sterile rooms resembled death itself. How could it not? When he was just a kid he sat beside his mother’s hospital bed as she lay in a coma she would never wake from. In his teenage years he had to rush to the hospital to see his sister after she had been beaten half to death by clients where she worked. Just recently he had to come and pray that neither of those things had happened to Risu. No, even for work, even to guard a potential asset in an investigation there was no way he could be at ease within these walls.

Thinking back to what he had been told when briefed on this assignment, the Uchiha repeated the details to himself, attempting to convince himself that it was worth it as well as partially trying to distract himself from thinking about where he was. The assignment was simple enough, even if it was particularly dull and in the worst location possible. The man in the hospital bed he now set next to was a chunnin from the village. A Nara if he remembered the files correctly. Supposedly he sustained some pretty serious injuries while being pursued on his way back from the village, more than likely in an attempt to silence him for whatever information he managed to acquire. His original mission was recon and an investigation into a criminal safe house that was supposedly located just outside the village, hidden in the forest. If that information was really the reason why he ended up unconscious and cut up like this it must have been pretty threatening to their operation. The upper brass of the police force obviously shared that sentiment because if they didn’t fear continued attacks while he was vulnerable and alone in the hospital he wouldn’t warrant Kyohei as a personal bodyguard.

For now though, everything seemed to be quiet. That was until an orderly came in to administer some kind of tests to gauge the man’s condition, as well as set up his nutrient IV for him to use while he was unconscious. There was a pretty good chance he’d be eating from a tube even if he woke up, what with his jaw being shattered. The Uchiha didn’t understand why the male nurse was being so insistent on him leaving the room for the tests to be done, especially considering the hospital signed off on Kyohei’s 24/7 authorization for security. If anything it should be Kyohei asking the orderly to leave, considering that a new IV wasn’t supposed to be scheduled for another 3 hours. Not wanting to waste an opportunity to get out of the room and spend some time away from the unconscious man however, Kyohei finally obliged and walked out of the room.

Once Kyohei had made his way out of the room, the supposed orderly would show his true colors: removing his fake glasses and pulling a knife out that was strapped to his abdomen from underneath his scrubs. Casually he pushed the cart he came in with off to the side, no longer caring about maintaining a disguise as he had already made it to his destination. There he stood over the unconscious Nara, defenseless and silent; just like he wanted to see. Now all that was left was to finish the job he had started back in the forest. He removed the old IV drip from the man’s tube and placed it on the cart off to the side, picking up the one he had brought in its place. Using the knife he would slice open the very tip of the bag, careful not to allow any of the liquid to spill. From his pocket he would then pull out a clear vial and pour it into the IV drip before using a jutsu of some kind to seal the bag back up without leaving any cut marks.

He would remove the old needle from the Nara’s arm before connecting a new tube to his poisoned IV drip. It appeared that this assassin had at least some medical knowledge, as he knew his way around medical equipment and procedures quite well, being careful not to make the death seem like an act of aggression. Carefully he would grasp the new butterfly needle and turn the Nara’s arm to search for a vein, but as he pushed forward to stick the vein the Nara’s arm would reach up and grip the man’s neck. His felt his throat being crushed before the Nara turned over in his bed and threw him by the neck across the room. The would be assassin could do nothing but sit there stunned for a moment, both from the physical shock and the surprise of the Nara being not only awake, but so much physically stronger than the last time they had met.

His curiosity would be sated as the Nara would burst into a puff of smoke, revealing the Uchiha he had previously asked to leave the room. Out of confusion, panic, and anger the assailant frantically reached for the knife that had fallen a few feet beside him, only to have his hand crushed under the force of a stomp from Kyohei’s combat boot. He let out s pained scream that drowned out the sound of cracking bones, but would soon find a new source of pain to yell over as Kyohei raised the knee of his opposite leg up rapidly towards the man’s face, shattering his nose. As blood began to leak from his face all over the previously sterile floor he began to feel his consciousness fading. Kyohei, seeing the dizzy look in the man’s eyes decided to help him along on his journey to unconsciousness with a swift palm strike to the side of the jaw, putting the man out instantly.

When the assailant came to, he would find himself locked in an interrogation room in the police department; his nose wrapped in bandages all the way around his head, his broken hand in a cast, and his arms and legs bound. Just for good measure he was also cuffed to the table which was bolted onto the floor. It might have been a bit excessive for what his file indicates was nothing more than a mediocre level criminal. He was once a medic-nin in the village, but was dismissed for malpractice and one day just completely fell off the grid after a series of run ins with the law. His involvement with this case pretty clearly explains where he had been this whole time.

Before Kyohei began his own line of questioning, it seemed as though their prisoner had a bone to pick with him. He wanted to know how Kyohei was able to be there after he very clearly watched the officer walk out of the room. That and he wanted to know where the real Nara was being kept. Obviously he wasn’t going to be made privy to the location of his target, but Kyohei had no issue explaining how he was fooled. It was simple really. Expecting attempt on the Nara’s life, Kyohei created a shadow clone of himself to wait in the room and pretend to be on guard duty while the real him used the transformation technique to take on the appearance of the Nara and waited in the bed. It was a long shot that someone would even show up, but in the end it worked out.

Now that Kyohei had humored the man’s request for an answer, it was time for the officer to get some answers of his own. The Uchiha slid a sheet of paper across the table containing a plea deal for the assailant. The terms were simple provide answers that lead to the apprehension of the rest of his organization and he received a shortened sentence. He was going away anyway, he might as well have made the trip a little shorter for himself. Of course the man didn’t talk straight away. According to him he “wasn’t a rat”. Of course. None of them were. Everyone was staunchly loyal to their criminal organization. At least that’s what they all claimed before the pain started. Kyohei had not gotten a chance to have any real fun with the man since he had broken his hand and knocked him out before the conflict escalated. Now that they were on Kyohei’s turf however, the man would soon learn that the games were played by his rules. And Kyohei only played to win. Needless to say, with the proper incentives the man sung like a bird.
