The Raven Takes His First Step

Inside the Village.

“Your order is here.” were the words spoken by a man dressed in a white garment, words back up by a square shaped box which landed on the counter.

“Much appreciated.” Tengoku replied before leaving a few coins behind in exchange for the box.

The sun was barely arising beneath the mountains, slowly it was showing its presence on the horizon. Despite this fair and calm weather, Tengoku was wearing his usual choice of clothing. A purple jacket with a considerable large fur collar, a jacket with the Uzumaki clan symbol imprinted on the back. The jacket was unzipped and beneath it you could see a pitch black shirt, sleeveless was his choice. Same color as the pants and those sturdy sandals, impractical in the eyes of some.

Around his waist a purple sash was wrapped, serving a quite obvious purpose, as the ordinary ninja pouch needed something to cling on. Two surgical gloves were also present on him, halfway tucked inside the pouch. Alongside this container of his, lingered a white and fairly large katana. It was peculiar as well; a blade without a guard.

Dust, chaotically moving underneath his feet, ceaselessly running away. Movement, given by those heavy footsteps. Joyfully the children were heading towards the academy, though Tengoku’s lifeless eyes never moved from the ground.

“If you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.”

Friedrich Nietzsche

The raven seemed tired; his wings were stripped away. It is known that wounds are usually healed in time, though some are everlasting. Mentally trapped in his own world, Tengoku kept walking forth until he found himself beneath the towering gates of Konohagakure. Another look was given towards his package before he continued on his road.

A few minutes later.

“Oh well, this is the right spot.” were the mumbling words spoken by the raven while his knees began kissing the ground, one after another.

Apparently the Shinobi was now standing against a small sized rock; the shape was almost perfectly flat. The atmosphere was quite relaxing compared to the agitated one inside the village. Without further ado, Tengoku placed the box on top of the stone, hidden from the view of the sun as the shades were shaped by the surrounding trees.

A similar looking wooden object was taken out from his pouch, and not even a second later a cracking noise resonated from it. His fingers curled around the divided chopsticks and with other hand he opened up the squared shape box. Spicy was the spell which pierced Tengoku’s nose, the noodles were still warm despite the somehow lengthy road.

The content of the box was now empty; however, Tengoku’s day has just started. Time was not wasted, as the raven quickly arose from his seated position. “Tchhh” was the noise that echoed through the woods as the blade was no longer in its cage, the handle was invaded by his five finger army. With a sturdy grip on it, the raven began dancing around with the sword; horizontally and vertically were the slashes that followed up next.

Due to his inability to stand still, the genin displayed remarkable mobility for his level. Those swings packed quite a force, and that speed was not bad either.  Small droplets of sweat began dripping down his forehead, and slowly their presence was consumed by the grassy field. Forty minutes passed and Tengoku was still moving around the rock. Despite that small breeze which kept appearing every now and then, the environment was still unfavorable for training; a bit too warm for the raven.

Eerie Presence.

Hissing was the barely audible sound which came from the grass, though it gradually grew louder. Tengoku was unaware of the slithering reptile that kept watching over him since he arrived, the boy was too caught up in his act. A pair of two yellow orbs were getting closer to the raven; those razor-sharp fangs finally made themselves noticed when it opened up that considerably large mouth.

“Sssssstop it, child.” were the words carried by the wind; words which echoed from the nearby trees. Once the signal has been given, the snake no longer glided between the grass, it froze just like an icicle. Tengoku’s attention was caught as well as those jet-black eyes were immediately darted against this shady looking person.

“Who are you calling a---“  the raven has spoken before he was interrupted by the terrifying presence made by that white looking snake. “Oh, nevermind.” Tengoku added before shifting his eyes once more against that shady person.

“Come back to me...” the man uttered. Once more the snake began to move, but now he was heading back towards his master. Upon arrival, it began crawling up the man’s right leg until it finally came to a halt, it was now resting on his shoulder. “You ssssee.. he wassss quite hungry and confused you for hisss ssssssssnack.” the man spoke on eerie tone while petting the slithering reptile. Both of them had a few common traits; their skin color matched and their eyes were identical.

The man had long and black hair which reached all the way down to his upper thighs. Standing with a height just below 7 feet, in a slender looking physique hid beneath a black a complete black garment. A laid back posture which added to that malicious look within his eyes, he was no different from his pet. There was no village emblem present on his clothes.

“Who are you and what do you want?” Tengoku inquired the man with his eyes narrowed while gripping both hands on the blade’s handle; they were slightly quivering.

“Who am I issss of little importance...” the eerie looking man responded. “Though... we will ssssurely meet again, Uzumaki.” were the last words spoken by the man, as his presence was concealed by a small cloud of smoke.

Tengoku raised his sword to defend himself, though once the smoke had dispersed it revealed that the man once standing there was now gone.

Thoughts of reprisal.

His sword pierced the ground; his hands were trembling due to the shock. A boy who isn’t easily intimidated was now crumbling with fear. “What could he possibly want from me?” was the question which stormed inside Tengoku’s mind. Those black eyes scattered against his paws and remained there for a few seconds. A few breaths of air were taken afterwards, as he needed to calm down and regain his composure.

“There are quite a few strange people in this world...” were the mumbling words of the raven, as he pulled back his sword from the ground. Once raised above his waist, Tengoku immediately placed it back inside its sheath; training was no longer an option, the mood was lacking. It was too early to end the day, and as such he reached inside his pouch from which he extracted a book. The cover was made out of leather and its content was quite substantial.

The Art of Medicinal Herbs

Fevers.

There are many factors known that cause fevers, and these can be proven quite a nuisance for a Shinobi, as it may however obstruct his full potential within a battle; one must stay in good health in order to function well. Therefore, it’s quite important to know how to act when a situation like this occurs. Our body is not immune to these kind of troubling factors, even a strong Shinobi can be forced to bed by a powerful fever; there are no exceptions to this.

The first thing which a Shinobi must do in order to get rid of a favor, is to lower their body temperature. That can be achieved through different methods, though one of the most common ones are to acquire Peppermint Essential Oil. One or two drops are enough within a glass of water, the content will give you a cooling sensation down to your stomach which eases up the irritating effect given by the fever. If you’re not in the position of buying Peppermint Oil, then finding the plant might be one the first things which you need to accomplish.

Bellow, there will be a description of how the Peppermint plant looks like, also a replacement for this, which is called Oregano.

Name: Peppermint Plant

Description: It’s a herbaceous rhizomatous perennial plant which grows to a height of 30 to 90 cm. The roots are quite fibrous and its leaves are quite fuzzy to the touch; dark green with reddish veins on it. This flower is known to be located in moist location and especially nearby the streams which offer them a good environment for growing.

Name: Oregano

Description: It’s another specie of the mint family, one which gives almost the same sensations as the Peppermint flower. Thus, it’s a perennial herb which grows to about 20 to 80 cm tall, with opposite leaves that reach from 1 to 4 cm. The flowers of this herb are purple and reach something between 1 to 4 mm height, and take the shape of erected spikes. The flower is also called wild marjoram. It has quite a particular taste from spicy to a more complicated flavor and sweet.

Once either of these plants have been gathered, the process to extract the needed essence can begin. The operations are fairly delicate and fragile and can get complex very easily, therefore this will be explained in the next chapter.

Tengoku continued reading a few more pages; this hobby of his managed to finally place his soul at rest, as he was no longer quivering from the previous encounter. The raven finally managed to regain his composure.

The light was getting dim, and the sun was began hiding beneath the trees. Tengoku finished up reading a few chapters of the book before the conditions were no longer favorable for him, and thus the book was placed back inside his pouch. Slowly, he arose from the ground and wiped the dust off those clothes; it was time for the raven to head back inside his cage, to Konohagakure.

On his way back, the eerie thoughts given by the earlier encounter haunted him; they were giving Tengoku a hard time. Shaken and disturbed by the fact that he might once more meet with that man, a unknown person with a weird looking pet. “What did he wanted?” was the question which stood upon his lips; a unspoken thought. Little time passed and the raven found himself beneath the towering gates once more; shaken and baffled were the states that took over his body.
