Sanosuke
D-rank
”I found it!” Sanosuke exclaimed in a hushed voice. Apparently, he exclaimed a bit too loudly and thus he felt the eyes of a thousand eyes push down on hum. Looking around him, there were the faces of very angry librarians and other patrons of the library. He had just broken the sacred rule of the library; ‘No loud noises in thy library.’ They glared at Sanosuke and slowly returned back to their books. The jounin had to shrink back into his scarf so that he wouldn’t be spotted again; it was as though he was a turtle and his bundles of clothing was his shell. When he was sure all of the eyes were averted from his attention, he went back to his finding from the various collection of books he was able to salvage from the library’s shelves.
There were other books and scrolls scattered and opened from all of Sanosuke’s searching. Each other books had references to wasps, bees. There were pictures, descriptions, personal anecdotes, and other written pieces of work. But here in this book, Sanosuke had found what he was looking for. Taking out a notebook swiftly, Sanosuke scribbled down the information that he found out. He abbreviated the passage so that it would only be written down as:
Sanosuke looked at the books one more time to make sure his information was all checked out was correct. He had spent the 4 hours in the library reading books after books so that he can find what he was looking for. In the past 5 years, Sanosuke was traveling with Guru Pathik so that he can learn more about all the chakra gates that were in the body. Each point gave Sanosuke more insight about his body and so he and the guru trained their bodies. It was a long 3 years when the two of the, along their travels, heard rumors of the wasps that would give people divine like abilities. The two men were in the hot scorching sands of the village hidden in the sand. The ability sounded like something that Sanosuke would like to look into. Pathik explained it to him that it was a type of senjutsu, which was chakra that is obtained from nature itself. So Pathik gave Sanosuke some leads to look into that might lead him into the dwellings of the wasps. Sanosuke took that close to heart and left his teacher whom he had learned so much from. They would definitely meet again, Pathik was just that kind of person; to show up just when people were needed and acting as carefree as possible. It was as though he had just ‘so happened’ to be in the area and give you the most amazing advice you have ever heard in your life.
So they departed and Sanosuke had been doing research on the Wasps ever since. He looked through library after library only getting snippets of information about the wasps. He would even go to other villages to see their library for information. Since there were always the chance that the village he would go to would not give him the information because of his uniform, he would stash his uniform somewhere on the outskirts of the village so that nobody may be able to find it. He would then sneak in with the crowd of followers and go into the library for more research. Of course there were sections that could only be accessed by only shinobi native to the village Sanosuke was searching through, so he would use the henge jutsu just so that h can sneak past the guards to get to the exclusive content. It was a long 2 years, but this time all his research seemed to have given him his answer.
While grinning ear to ear, Sanosuke pushed in his chair and rushed outwards and away from the library he was in. He was in the library of a village that was between the village hidden in the clouds, his home village, and the village hidden among the stones. He had been to the village he was in and it was a good thing that it wasn’t a shinobi village, which meant that he would go through the usual process of hiding his Kumogakure uniform. Honestly, he hasn’t been wearing it so much on his travels. It’s usually in his bag for when he eventually comes back home. He had heard many things about the village and the rising stars, and as such Sanosuke wanted to get back as soon as possible. But first he had to do this. It was the afternoon when he escaped the library, he had no idea that he had stayed in the library for close to 6 hours. The night air was creeping into the sky air into a blend of purple.
Stretching his back, Sanosuke let out a yawn. The fatigue was getting to him from staying in the library for so long. He was too tired to go searching for the entrance for the wasp dwelling, so he would at the very least make camp in the general area of the entrance of the wasps’ territory. Sanosuke materialized a map from his pockets and to take one tiny peak at where he would be going. Thanks to the book he found in the library, Sanosuke now could have a general idea of where he can search for the dwelling. The book’s excerpt said that the queen had moved to the bottom of the mountain. Thinking about the mountain, it would probably mean Kumogakure. The fact that the except never said it was in Kumogakure meant that the dwelling wasn’t necessarily in Kumogakure. This is what some people would have thought, but if it wasn’t for hanging around Pathik for years one learns how to think logically and understand cryptic riddles and phrases. No, there’s no way that it could be in Kumogakure. Then Sanosuke would have known about this way before his journey about the chakra gates began. Unless by bottom of the mountain, the excerpt was talking about the woods that was before Kumogakure that was literally in the depths of the mountainous region of Kumogakure. It’s an ancient area that Sanosuke has never been to, but he heard that the place was inhabitable and had no edible food for humans. The plant life of the forest was sewn with poison ivy to the point where going in there would poison you. It was kind of obvious why no Kumo shinobi go there: it has no tactical use. The only reason why Sanosuke EVEN knows where the kami forsaken forest is located is when he was on guard duty of the Kumogakure border back when he was a chunnin. His superior, at the time when he had asked about the abyss of the mountains, Sanosuke could remember that his superior told him about it and that the area problem would never be traveled.
He also heard other things about the forest. That some children would travel into the abyss by climbing down the mountain and then would just disappear when in the forest. Sanosuke would have to check that out. Sanosuke walked back into the inn he was in and took his bag and left the inn. He had no idea that he was so close to home, that and the fact that the wasp dwelling could possibly be right under his nose this whole time. The trip, thanks to Sanosuke’s new speed, didn’t take him long and this he reached the mountain trail of Kumogakure. The trail would lead upwards towards the village, but there was a road that would go around the mountain. Sanosuke took that trail and then saw a sight that made him gasp. The mist of the mountain forest made him feel a bit uncomfortable with doing this. No he would definitely do this, there would not be a problem. Stretching his body, Sanosuke leaped off from the top of the cliff to be completely vulnerable to the wilds that was approaching rather quickly. When he was close enough, Sanosuke adjusted his body so that he can land properly. He clapped his hands together so that he can focus chakra around his body to make it lighter in order to slow down his descent. It worked brilliantly, the vines of the forest began to lick at the cloak of wind chakra that Sanosuke had enwrapped himself in to slow down. He finally touched down on the ground, and then put his hands to his sides so he can proceed with walking through the forest.
Focusing chakra, Sanosuke was sharpening it so that as he walked, it would cut down all vines and wildlife that was going to come in contact with his body. He can’t risk getting infected by some disease that he can get from these poisonous plants. It was good to be safe than sorry. This sort of chakra usage was literally nothing to him and such he can do it easily without much strain on his body or mind. As he walked he looked around his surroundings to see exactly where he is walking in. The place looked so ancient and abandoned. It made him feel as though there was something that was built here by Kumogakure that nobody knew about. That it was just there as a reminder of a building that was torn. There were pieces of building that was scattered throughout the surrounding area. Back in the day Sanosuke would have never had the audacity to go in this haunted area that could possibly be haunted with spirits. But ever since he was cleansed by Pathik, spirits no longer scared him. Yup he was not going to be intimidated by these rumors about ghosts.
Looking up as he continued walking, Sanosuke noticed that it was actually getting pretty dark outside. The sun was setting and the mist that was surrounding the forest was making the area even darker than usual. Even though the time outside wasn’t anything past early evening, down here where the sun wasn’t shining at all and the mist blocked out most of the sun’s bright rays, it looked as though it was well into the night hours. It was kind of creepy actually, he had been walking for hours now and he couldn’t find a single entrance or anything. Letting out a sigh, Sanosuke decided it was better to just set up camp so that he would have at least somewhere to rest up. He swayed his arm to clean part of his pathway from swooping vines that could be in his way. After some walking, a clearing came into visual. It was kind of odd to see a forest clearing in a place like this that was literally loitered with vines and other plant life. It wasn’t as though he was really complaining about the fact that he didn’t need to slash away at the possibly poisonous grass and other plant life. But it was just something odd that he spotted out; oh well he had a place to sleep so he was going to take advantage of the situation.
Taking off his book bag from his back, Sanosuke let himself get unwinded and began to set up camp. He laid out a tarp for him to lay against one of the trees that were surrounding the clearing he had made camp in. Going around the trees he picked out some dry wood that he could use to start a fire. With only a few flicks of some rocks he found, he was lucky enough to find flint so he can get a fire started. The flames licked his face as he was getting warm by the camp fire he made. Staring at the fire, it gave him time for him to think about how far he came from being a genin. It was a long 5 years, he went mentally insane was a special jounin during the prison riot. He always wondered what happened to the family of the prisoner whom had saved Sanosuke’s life. He really doesn’t like to think about the dark days, he became something that he didn’t like which was someone who would kill for no reason at all. Just pure rage. The flames reminded him of the red hot fury that had once developed in his stomach. Tiny flames still lingered in his heart at how deadly furious he was once.
A flickering light caught the corner of Sanosuke’s eyes. In a quick flick of his body, he got back on his feet to land softly on his feet. He searched his surroundings to find the flickering light. There was no way that it was from the flames. He was starring directing at the forest fire the whole time when the light came. So it goes without saying that he’s not alone here. Sand was kicked from under the boot of Sanosuke’s foot to snuff out the flames from the camp fire he created. There’s a chance that the camp fire might attract whatever Sanosuke had just seen. But also if it was one of the wasps that Sanosuke was trying to fund, it might scare them off. So it would be best to look for the mysterious light in the dark. He slowly stepped into the general direction of where he saw the light come from. While walking he made sure it was a in a slow approach to make sure that he can take in anything that he passed. Wind chakra began to swirl around his body so that it can be protected from the poisonous plants. It sliced through the plants with ease as he walked. The swishing of branches were nullified by the soft slashes his wind chakra makes when it cuts through the branches.
Blue light washed over Sanosuke as he walked through the forest. The light was coming from overhead Sanosuke, it’s what caused Sanosuke to stop himself from moving all together to look at the light. The light was so bright that it illuminated the forest. The light bounced off the mist of the forest giving the source an eerie glow. What is that thing Sanosuke thought to himself as he tried to figure out what was the floating light that was right before him. The light, now that he could really look at it, was more like a tiny sphere of blue light. Its shape was small, but the light it was showing was making it seem as though it was bigger than it actually was. So delicate yet it was so fragile that like if he tried to touch it it might just disappear in thin air; leaving him alone in the dark with nothing but his wits and the task to find his way back to the camp in pitch black.
The light was suddenly began to move and dance gently against the wind. It swayed side to side gently with the delicacy of a feather that was swept up by soft wind. From side to side, the orb of light bobbed as though it was attached to something that was causing it to move so gracefully. He wondered what exactly would happen if he tried to touch it. One hand was raised so that Sanosuke could reach out for the orb. His hand rose slowly from his side and cautiously incase that the orb might shock him. It was mystifying him. As though he was in a trance. There was something about the way the orb of light moved that was just so captivating to his eye. When he moved his hand closer to the ball of light, he felt no heat. It was though it was just a flower or something that just had a special glow to it.
”Hey! Listen! Don’t touch me human!”
Sanosuke backed away in shock at what he heard. A voice was definitely heard when he tried to reach for the ball of light. But there was no one else hear in the forest besides him. Just to make sure, Sanosuke looked around to check his surroundings to be sure there was no one behind him or right at his flank; but he found no one. This was getting weird, all there was was this glowing orb of light that was floating right above him. Besides last time he checked, glowing blue orbs of light don’t talk.
”Hey! Hey! Listen!
Sanosuke then looked at the glowing orb with a new interest. Maybe this glowing orb must be talking to him, or he might be going insane. He had to have been crazy to think that a glowing orb of blue light would be floating right in front of him. Coming upon closer inspection, Sanosuke looked at the orb closer and leaned his face in to look at it carefully. The light wasn’t blinding his eyes when he got this close, it was like the light was just part of his vision. That’s when he saw it. The orb wasn’t a person but a tiny girl with very tiny features. She had only a slim white dress on her body. The girl looked to be a few years younger than him. The girl also had short blue hair and blue eyes. The girl was glaring at Sanosuke furiously.
”Would you please stop staring at me?” the tiny girl commanded Sanosuke with authority with her tiny chest pointed out.
There’s no way. A fairy was talking to him, this is so unreal. And here Sanosuke thought that fairies were only a myth. But then again Sanosuke had to think to himself that he can cleave multiple trees with ease all with one central swing. The fact that the tiny woman was talking to him left him dumbfounded. It took a while before Sanosuke could compose himself. ”Um sorry about that. I was just looking for something-“ Sanosuke began to say before he was interrupted by a sharp pain in his back.
Turning around, Sanosuke found that blood was splattered on the ground that was right behind him. Blood kept on pouring from his wound in his back. The pain came down against his shoulders like he was wearing weights. It caused him to buckle under his own wait and stay in a crouched position, on one knee. What the hell? When did I get cut? Sanosuke thought to himself desperately. What was going on here? He looked at the tiny girl that was above his head, the girl looked in horror right above Sanosuke. Rolling to the side, Sanosuke had just narrowedly avoided a slash that left an slash mark right where he was squatted on. There was a cut on his cheek now, it was a small price to pay for having himself not get cleaved in half right down the middle.
Right above Sanosuke was several orbs of light that were much bigger than the tiny girl that was creating the orb of light. With closer inspection, the orbs of light were just like the light source that was radiating from the girl Sanosuke met. Each one of the lights were being radiated from what looked like a warrior holding broadswords in each hand. Their lights were soft glows of white; but leading the lights was a warrior dressed in knight’s armor. The armor was beautifully crafted with reinforced steel that was so shiny that it was reflecting the light the warrior was already giving off; making it more intense, it made Sanosuke actually have to squint at how bright this guy was. Each engraving that was etched into the armor of the warrior that was before Sanosuke, looked more like swirls of light that laid gently against the steel. The warrior had silver hair that was cropped short with piercings that went up the outside rim of his ears. In his hands was a sword that weren’t generic looking like the other warriors behind him. His sword was more elegant looking and decorated with jewels. The swords had a curve to it so that it looked more like a scimitar than a broadsword. The way he looked at Sanosuke made him look like he was just an insignificant bug.
”Your kind is not welcome here human, leave this place at once” the warrior barked. Normally anyone who would say hard sounding syllables, it would be obvious. But this man before him was able to say the whole sentence with a slick elegance that was abnormally smooth, that you wouldn’t even think that it sounded weird. It was enchanting, but there was a slight buzzing whenever he spoke; the buzzing was the reason why his sentences strung together so well. The man leveled his sword to point right at Sanosuke’s face. Sanosuke flinched, but the blade never came. ”If you do not heed this words, this will be the last breath you take.”
Sanosuke growled with annoyance and tried to move his hand to reach for his sword so that he would have some way to fight against the buzzing warrior, but his body wasn’t obeying his commands. His whole body was buzzing to the point where his body refused to move. The man looked at Sanosuke with a cold stare as though he couldn’t care less what would happen to Sanosuke. After all, he was practically his executioner; why would he care about the wellbeing of this human. ”Do not even bother resisting. Your body will not obey your commands” the man replied as he put a bit of pressure into the blade he was holding so that a small drop of blood was shed from his neck.
The buzzing sensation he was experiencing was clouding up his mind so that his mind was turning into mush. He could barely focus on who he was, it was making him nauseous. This was bad, if he didn’t answer he wouldn’t be able to escape this entrancement; it would spell sudden death for him. Despite the man’s warning, Sanosuke struggled anyways. This time he was making more obvious movements to escape, these movements caused static electricity to pop out from his body. Sanosuke yelped loudly in pain. The scream that escaped Sanosuke’s lips earned him a smack in the face by the flat side of the man’s blade. It was like getting hit by a moving train when his cheek made contact with the steel. It made the buzzing sensation worst when he tried to get up. Already he could feel blood pouring out of his mouth from the strike.
”You swine! You dare try to raise your hand at me?!” the man said, position his blade so he can stab cleanly right into Sanosuke’s flank. That was when the small girl came in between the two with her hands wide open in an attempt to shield her body with Sanosuke’s. The tiny girl stood before the towering warrior in defiance. The warrior looked at her ”Get out of the way you peasant![/grey] Raising his sword now, he made forward a movement to cut down the tiny woman in half.
This wasn’t what Sanosuke was going to watch happen. No, he strictly refused this to happen right before his eyes. Visions of Baki dying right before his eyes filled his head; the blood, the fury, the sadness, and the flames that he was thinking about as he watched the campfire ignited. The sign of the demon appeared in his left eye, chakra burst off his skin in fury as he moved towards the warrior in fury. This was not going to happen again. No not again.
”You foolish human. Did I not beckon you to stand do-“ the warrior began to say before he was cut off by a black blur. Sanosuke dashed at the man with his twin swords, the warrior brought them down at the man who blocked his attack with his sword. Pushing chakra to propel his attack, Sanosuke was left in deadlock against the warrior. The screeching of the swords gave off sparks as they were moving backwards. The warrior was taken back at Sanosuke and was looking him straight in the eyes; the eyes of a furious Sanosuke that wanted nothing more than to score one strike against the glowing knight. The two went through tree after tree as they were moving through the forest at top speeds, static popped painfully against Sanosuke’s skin but he didn’t care at all.
That’s when the man gained his composure and let Sanosuke pass him with insane speed. Sanosuke was going so fast that he didn’t have time to stop. He tumbled over and over again until his back slammed against a tree hard. The buzzing sensation intensified to the point where he was screaming in pain. Then he began to cough out blood from the attack. The warrior raised his hands and snapped his fingers to have his fellow warriors surround Sanosuke with swords pointing at Sanosuke’s tumbled body in all directions. Sanosuke looked around him with his eyes, there was no way he can fight them all. They had an ability that Sanosuke didn’t know about, but what was it?
Sanosuke’s eyes widened at his realization. He struggled to find his voice from the fact that he was pretty sure that the asshole in front of him nearly broke his jaw. When he did, the leader of the warriors turned around to face Sanosuke and sheathe his sword. ”You..you’re the wasps of the ancient wasp clan…” Sanosuke panted in pain. Now blood was dripping from his forehead, this was bad. The buzzing from the attacks were giving him an intense headache that was causing him to struggle with just remaining consciousness.
The warrior looked at Sanosuke and huffed ”Yes what about it human?” the warrior said apathetically as though he was wondering how he could kill Sanosuke.
Struggling to get up, Sanosuke tried his best to get up. He moved his body so that he can sit up properly. Each inch he moved caused him great pain and the buzzing to increase, it was agonizing for him to live with this pain. The warriors leveled their weapons at Sanosuke to make sure he didn’t do anything stupid. More blood came out from his mouth as he moved until finally he was in the position he wanted. His knees tucked under his chest and his hands down against the ground along with his head looking down. He bowed before the leader of the wasps as a sign of begging. ”Please….teach me the ways of the wasps…” Sanosuke panted heavily. ”I beg of you…”
For minutes there was nothing but silence in the air. Nobody moved, the warriors talked to themselves in nothing but a sequences of buzzes and hisses. They were obviously talking in a different language that wasn’t known by humans. But there were no words that came from the leader of the warriors. He was just stone cold silent and looked at him, the pressure from his eyes were already making Sanosuke feel smaller than usually. And the fact that the buzzing sensation in his body was only just magnifying the feeling he was experiencing. Finally after staring at the man that was before him, he rose his sword above his head in preparation to slay Sanosuke right here on the spot. This was the end, he was going to die here in the forest that held the existence of the wasps that he was searching for. He closed his eyes to wait for his death to come.
”Biosk, what on earth do you think you are doing?”
Sanosuke opened his eyes to find out what was happened. The warrior that was before him turned around to see who was telling him what to do. He was so caught off guard that the shining man completely forgot about Sanosuke and had his sword only inches from his face. Sanosuke tried his best to look at who had distracted the man that was about to kill him. It was actually a woman that was in an armor that was much similar to the armor of the man that was before him, but instead of armor trousers, she had on a scarlet colored combat skirt that was about mid-thigh length. She had a trident strapped to her back that looked to be made of high grade material. Down her back was silver long hair that was groomed and brushed to the point where it sparkled. She glowed with a soft yellow light that was more intense than the man’s. Her groomed hair reflected the light delicately outwards from her body. Her eyes also had the unworldly coldness to it. Whenever she spoke there was a soft buzzing sound that connected her words together.
”You are not an executioner. Now I ask you again: what do you think you are doing?” the woman said while glaring at the man.
The man that was named Biosk gritted his teeth in annoyance at the woman that was before him. His face didn’t show any anger, it looked completely neutral. ”I was merely disposing of human trash that was trespassing in our territory” Biosk said apathetically. The buzzing in his voice was more intense as he spoke to the woman that was before him. He turned around to look back at a barely conscious Sanosuke that was pinned down by other wasp warriors. ”To think this human has the audacity to ask to learn the ways of the wasp’s senjutsu.
There was silence before the woman began to speak again. ”You forget yourself. You are merely my second in command.” she said, the buzzing in her voice even louder than Biosk’s. She walked closer to get a look at Sanosuke. Biosk said nothing as he made way for his superior to get a better look at Sanosuke. She squatted down to look at Sanosuke, the woman looked around him to her other subordinates to give a simply command to yield. They complied without a word being said so that their actual leader can take a look at Sanosuke.
”Human. Tell me: What business do you have in our home?” the woman asked. Her buzzing was making Sanosuke’s head spin, it was even more intense than Biosk’s. Every word she spoke was like a hammer being struck against his brain. Darkness began to take over his mind after much fighting. Her words were muffled, since he knew that she was asking him the same question. And just like that he fell unconscious in the forests of the ancient wasps.
For it was Princess Melike who disappeared at the bottom of the mountain. Nowhere to be seen again. It was only the buzzing of her heart that would let travelers know that she is well and for them to go on about their lives.
Sanosuke looked at the books one more time to make sure his information was all checked out was correct. He had spent the 4 hours in the library reading books after books so that he can find what he was looking for.
