Retired
The sound of slow, methodical footsteps rattled throughout the errily silent hall. Twenty two Genin stood, assembled to await the announcement of the second and final round of the Chuunin exams. It felt fucking good to get away from the increasingly large pile of paperwork on her desk. It had been five years since Trilby left, yet Gin still found that one of the things she missed most about him was his ability to deal with the administrative bullshit she couldn't stand. At the end of the hallway stood thick double doors, leading onto the Kage podium that overlooked the four arenas of The Grand Colosseum. The stands of every arena were at capacity, with the qualifying Genin assembled in a straight line inside one of the arenas. Pushing open the double doors, Gin looked out onto the platform she was about to address the assembly from. There, two small children stood, a energetic, dark haired boy, Shinji, and a small, red haired girl who stood hidden in the shadows, Kiku. When Gin opened the doors, both children rushed them, though the rest of the assembly could not see her yet. "Mummy, when's daddy coming to visit?" "Soon, dear." Gin whispered in response to her little daddy's girl, kissing her on the forehead before stepping forwards to the balcony.
As Gin stepped into view, a loud series of trumpets sounded, announcing her arrival. Four Shinobi stationed at specific points underneath the tower let off Katon jutsu, creating a spark effect that looked as though the tower itself were spewing flames. As the fanfare settled, Gin stood aloft, four arenas of roaring individuals surrounding her, with two small children clinging to her legs. Shinji ran forward, trying to grab the microphone from the stand and address the assembly, but Kiku grabbed his arm, dragging him to the ground. As the two kids began to wrestle, Kiku desperately trying to control her hyperactive brother, Gin stepped over the pair and began to address the assembly, her voice authoritative and sharp, cutting through any residential muttering that may have been persisting.
"As most of you have no doubt concluded from the location we are currently in, the second and final round of this year's chuunin exams will be a tournament. This year, twenty two genin have survived to this stage, and as such have the honour of competing for your entertainment over the following weeks. This arena is split into four different stadiums. Each stadium will be retrofitted to adhere to a completely different environment. This will ensure the battles will occur in real world environments, rather than neat pre-selected environments for combat. In addition, each battle will have a restriction applied to it. These restrictions will limit what the Shinobi can bring in, or do, during the battle. During these matches, these conditions will force the Shinobi to prove they are capable of handling conditions where their resources are limited and their comfort zone is pushed against an enemy of equal skill.
Pausing briefly, Gin took a moment to survey the environment. The crowd was enthralled, while the Genin all looked like cattle ripe for the slaughter. It certainly would be an interesting tournament to say the least, all Gin could hope is that they would at least put on a solid show as they fought. "To those of you competing in the exams, I would say this: Put on a good show, and if you're going to di-" "MOM, KIKU WON'T GET OFF ME!! a small ripple of laughter rolled across the audience as Shinji screamed for his mother, who turned briefly to see what was going on. Kiku sat on top of Shinji's, pinning him down with both his arms locked up behind himself. He was bucking like a furious bull, but little Kiku kept a good grip and managed to stop him from squirming free. "If you're going to die," gin continued, "Please don't leave any permanent stains on my nice new Colosseum."
