Off to her first mission, Kita barely got any sleep the night before with the excitement and pre-mission adrenaline coursing through her veins. What was she going to face? Bandits? Bears? Gigantic monsters? No, there was no way the Raikage would send a tiny Gennin off to battle with what little experience Kita had. But still, the fact that she was qualified to go on a mission said something. She wasn’t a failure after all. Perhaps the Raikage even saw potential in her. By the time Kita did fall asleep, she forced herself to wake up merely three hours later, and in a span of ten minutes the girl took a quick shower, got dressed and got ready for the mission. Kita’s mother had awoken half an hour before the girl to ensure that she had a full belly before leaving the house, so after stuffing her face with the various breakfast foods that had been laid out on the dinner table, Kita kissed her mother goodbye and headed out the door straight to the mission board.
What she saw made Kita’s stomach drop a little. A retrieval mission? For a recipie? That was such a menial task… even a dog could take on a mission like that. Kita sighed, feeling the disappointment well up inside of her. Oh well, Kita. Let it go, this is your first mission, anyways. Think about how many famous Kumo-nin had to take these silly little tasks when they were Genin… this is just the beginning, when you’re more experienced, the more difficult missions will come. She thought to herself as she sighed. Quickly scanning over the mission again, Kita took care to memorize the names, places and faces before heading to the Sky Bar.
Even as she walked through the street, Kita couldn’t help but to notice the villagers glaring at her and whispering to each other. By now she was used to it, none of it fazed her. Ganbattene… You’ll do fine! She thought to herself as she neared the road leading to the Sky Bar, where she could see a youthful looking woman wandering around with her arms crossed and a worried look on her face.
”Umm… Excuse me, are you okay?” Kita asked as she approached her. After a second glance, however, Kita realized that the woman was Corina. Before she could speak, Kita pointed at her. ”Ohhhhh~ You’re Corina Gown! My name is Kita, Kita Asumasureiya… the Raikage sent me to retrieve a recipie..”
Corina looked at Kita for a moment, perplexed. Was this the best that the village could do? After thinking it over, the woman let out a sigh before nodding. She pulled out an envelope from her back pocket. “Yes… this. I will give it to you… but after you help me. My husband, I can’t seem to find him… he told me he would be home by midnight last night because it was someone’s birthday… find him for me, and you can have the recipe.” She told Kita before putting it back into her pocket.
Kita nodded to the woman before heading up the road towards the Sky Bar. The word Birthday immediately clicked in her mind – where do adults typically celebrate birthdays? At a bar! That was going to be the first place she’d look. Thankfully, there was no age restriction on the bar so the girl could freely waltz in, but the drunkards couldn’t help but to make comments about the ‘little baby girl that crawled in’ and pester her about whether or not she was lost or looking for her mommy.
Kita held her tongue, knowing better than to engage in a fight while on a mission. She searched high and low through the lounge and the dance floor but was unable to locate the man until she slipped into a private room off in the back. By then, Kita’s anger was at a whole new level, and it took every fibre of her being not to lash out at some of the people in the bar, so when Kita saw that Orwin Gown was not only sitting around his own harem of girls, but getting a little too cozy with a few of them, Kita finally snapped.
”… Orwin… Gown….” Kita could barely spit his name out with a calm and steady tone as she gave him a death glare. The man turned his attention to Kita before taking a swig from his bottle. “Hey.. don’t tell my wife… she’ll kill me, here… “ He said, slurring his words as he clumsily reached into his pocket and produced a folded square of paper. “Take this and go… it’s my famous re--”
Before he could finish, Kita was already charging at him like a wild animal, hand clenched tightly in a fist before letting loose and socking him in the eye. The girls that were gathered around him immediately dispersed, screaming as they ran out of the room. Without so much as another word, Kita left the room, heading straight out of the Sky Bar. She could see Corina running up the street towards the bar – perhaps news had broken out of the little child walking into a bar and Corina caught word of it. Either way, Kita was determined to tell Corina the truth.
When Corina finally arrived, Kita tugged on her arm as if to tell her to crouch down. This wasn’t something Kita was willing to announce to the whole village, after all. ”Your husband… was in the bar and… I’m sorry…”
But Corina simply wrapped her arms around the girl in a tight embrace. “Thank you, Kita. I’ll take care of it from here… you did a great job. Here, take this to the Raikage, I’m sure she’ll be pleased.” She said before handing the girl the recipie.
