There are times when life is fun, when life is everything one could want out of it. When the sun shines and everyone's happy and... oh god, who am I kidding, that never happens. Even in fiction, that never happens. God's just not that kind of a guy. But, there were times when things were good, and there were times that were bad. Times where someone shared their food with you were good, when you made a new ally and found out you're not going to get stabbed in the face any time soon. Those times are good. However, times when you're sent to track down and kill a rampaging boar with nothing but your chakra, your unnatural flexibility and your basic understanding of the fighting world... those are bad times. Or, at least it would be for most people. It appeared that Kaiten couldn't care less. He knew that he was not as strong as the jounin of the village, nor was he as physically able as the taijutsu practitioners of the village, but he had determination. He had been paid to do this mission, and by god's name he was going to do it well, the honor of the clan was on the line. How could you expect the pawns and rooks to follow if the king wasn't going to make a good lead? Well, actually, a chess metaphor is rather stupid and redundant as you can command whatever you want in chess, there's no respect involved. of course there's no respect involved, it's ruddy pieces of stone, chiseled into pretty shapes. Well, it's the point that matters anyway.
Moving through the countryside, or what passed for the countryside in the land of earth, Kai's movements were quick, swift, and blunt. There was no stupid jumping through tree limbs, there was no trees around here at all for that matter, just a lot of fields. Corn, olives, and all the other vegetable and fruit supplies for the country. The countryside always had this earthly scent to it, something that Kai liked. It reminded him of the open road. Whilst he might be constrained into the village right now, he would always be a nomad by nature, always want to be walking and doing something. The clan had adapted very well to village life, and so had he, but that didn't mean there was days that he missed walking out on the road. Although, that might just be because the times that he was a nomad involved either his father or his adviser. Their ghosts could likely be following him right now, smiling down at the man he had become. A ninja, a thief, a genius and a warrior. The perfect man to lead the clan, there was no other way to provide when the entire world wanted you dead. His mind snapped out of his darkness as he saw the first clues.
On the side of the road, there was a long trail of trampled corn as if something had just ran through it. Moving towards it, he could smell the distinct smell of uncooked pork, and the mud that the corn had been trampled into wasn't dried yet. That meant that this had happened recently, and judging by the direction in which the corn was trampled, it would have to have gone into the cornfield, not out of it. Or at least, not out of it this way. Breaking into a sprint, he ran through the trampled path. He knew that he was probably contaminating the clues, but he had to catch this thing before the scent went cold. The trail twisted and turned, spinning and moving as if it was trying to confuse someone, or lose them. He continued following it for what felt like a good five minutes, but it could have very well been longer or shorter, his hormones was kind of messing with his interpretation of the world around him. Then, finally, he found it. Standing in a circle of crushed corn, snorting with anger, it looked around and saw him.
Well, there went the stealth angle.... Buggery
