D-rank
Clan Name: Senju
Location: Konohagakure
Specialization: Ninjutsu
Elements: Doton (Earth Release); Suiton (Water Release); Mokuton (Wood Release)
- Clan History:
Descended from the youngest son of the Sage of Six Paths, Asura Ōtsutsuki, and through him, inherited the “body” of the sage of the six paths, being born with exceptional life forces and chakra. Despite their modern reputation for association with the wood style, the Senju originally had no defining feature, instead having a reputation for simply being home to strong shinobi with well-rounded proficiency. It is from this balance that they acquired their name, "Senju" (千手, Literally meaning: "a thousand skills", "a thousand hands"), in reference to their being "the clan with a thousand skills".
Distant relatives of the Uzumaki clan, the Senju stuck close and for a long time held on to the Uzumaki as allies, with members of the clan marrying between, like Hashirama Senju, and Mito Uzumaki, as well as the Uzumaki providing Fuinjutsu whenever it was needed by the Senju. As they were descended from Asura, the brother of Indra, the Senju are also distant relatives to the Uchiha, although not as closely as they are with the Uzumaki. Whereas Asura believed peace could be achieved through love and compassion, Indra saw the world as needing power and strength to hold peace, and the two’s feud carried on through the two clans for generations in what would grow to be known as the “Curse of Hatred”, and neither side of the endless conflict could remember the reason the fighting began.
In the time leading up to the Warring States Period, both clans became the two strongest clans in the known Shinobi world, to the point that when one country hired the aid of the Uchiha, or the Senju, the opposition would hire the alternate. A never ending state of war made tensions remain at a high, growing more and more personal with each death caused by the other. This wasn’t to say every member of the clan was born into the cycle of hatred however – the now famous Hashirama Senju and Madara Uchiha met as children, bonding as friends over their mutual distaste of the conflict. The two mutually dreamed of a world where children like themselves and their siblings would not need to fight, however, Madara Uchiha gave up on the dream, while Hashirama Senju held hope.
The two continued to fight as they grew, and eventually they both found themselves as the heads of their respective clans. Attempting to use his childhood friendship with Madara to end the conflict and bring peace, the attempt was futile, and instead Madara demanded there be one more attempt to suppress the Senju clan. The Senju won, however, Hashirama opted to spare Madara, and prepared to take his own life in a wish to end the conflict between the Senju and Uchiha. Madara stopped Hashirama, the sentiment moving him, and he agreed to work with Hashirama and thus create a village that would go on to survive for hundreds of years after – Konohagakure no Sato, the village hidden in the leaves. Other clans soon followed suit, as well as other countries adopting the village formulae.
The Senju clan then went on to populate a vast majority of the Hokage seats, something that Madara had expressed fear in – the first, second, fifth, and eighteenth Hokage were Senju, and the seventh, fourteenth and sixteenth were Uzumaki, a close relative clan of the Senju, although by this point Madara was long deceased, and the animosity between the two clans had fallen into history.
For a long period of time, the Senju clan were not recognizable as an official clan, with no members of Konohagakure being aware of members among their ranks after the fourth great shinobi war – the clan had grown scattered, and after Hashirama, who was known for the wood style, the clan faded into just another clan. However, this is where the association of the Senju as skilled ninja ends, and the story of the wood style legacy would begin.
A rare kekkei genkai first seen in Hashirama Senju, there were many attempts to gain the use of the advanced element that only Hashirama was seen to wield. The first example was Madara himself, who after their final battle, took a portion of his flesh and, using the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path, began cultivating cells for his own use. Then, after the first Hokage’s passing, the village of the leaf tried countless experiments to reactivate his cells in various ninja, each one resulting in failure, and the death of the subject. However, a student of the Orochi clan named Orochimaru, and student of the third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, injected the DNA into a total of sixty children, in an attempt to gain the powers for himself. One child survived, named Yamato, and rose through the ranks to be a member of the ANBU, and one of the protectors of the seventh Hokage, Naruto Uzumaki.
A survivor of the fourth great shinobi war, Yamato went on to find love in a shinobi from the hidden cloud village, and the two eventually started a family together. From there, the DNA required to use wood release spread, and eventually the name Senju returned, not the same as it once was. Keeping their roots in the village it helped to found, the Senju rose up from nothing a second time, however rather than proficiency, are known for their versatility, their uniqueness, and their bravery – one of the founding clans of Konoha had returned. In a way, the fears of Madara Uchiha had come true – the Senju were stronger now as a clan than they had ever been before.

Kekkei Genkai Name: Mokuton (Wood Release); Six Paths Body
Kekkei Genkai Description: Wood Release is a sort of symbolic name, more derived from the pre-chakra term for hiding in trees. The actual Wood Release Kekkei Genkai is an Advanced Nature that is based in Earth and Water Release. By utilizing Earth Release as a base for solid structure and Water Release is used as a means to accelerate growth, the Senju's naturally Yang-heavy chakra is used as a source of life. Thus, Mokuton can be used to create any type of plant life, such as, but not exclusively, flowers, vines, seeds, and, of course, trees or wood.
Wood Release techniques can be produced from the ground, as well as non-metal substances like rooftops. Organic mass, very often the Senju's own body, can be turned into a catalyst for Mokuton, as can existing plants. Like its constituent Earth Release, Wood Release commonly uses the Snake hand seal for its techniques.
Wood Release's element rank is always equal to that of its constituent elements. So, if a Senju's Suiton is S-rank and their Doton is C-rank, their Mokuton is C-rank. When they rank up their lowest element, their Mokuton automatically ranks up with it.
In it's normal state Mokuton is considered inherently advantageous against one or two of Suiton, Doton or Fuuton. This is determined on an individual basis of the Senju the Mokuton belongs to. However, should a Senju be born with their Mokuton strong against two of these elements then instead of being weak to either Katon or Raiton, which is also determined individually to each Senju, their Mokuton is considered weak to both.
Due to Mokuton's strong natural ties and the incredibly variety of plants, structures and forms it can be molded to this allows Mokuton to be adapted as the Senju's skill with the element increases and as their familiarity with other elements does as well. In addition, once a Senju has learned how to insulate their Mokuton against one of the following elements they can add an additional 10 chakra to the cost of any jutsu they possess in order to add an elemental advantage of their choosing to any their Mokuton already possess. The elements a Senju can adapt their Mokuton to combat, and requirements to do so, are as follows.
- Boil Release:
While not impossible there exists an inherent struggle to create plant life robust enough to resist the highly damaging nature of Boil Release. Due to it being able to heat to the point it can even boil their own user's chakra. However, due to Boil-Release's inherent fluid-based nature it is the easiest of known elements a Senju can adapt their Mokuton against. A Senju hoping to inundate their Mokuton against Boil Release must.....- Witness two different Boil Release Techniques of at least D-Rank.
- Be struck by a Boil Release technique of at least D-Rank.
- Use a Sensory technique of at least C-Rank to detect a Boil-Release user's chakra.
- Witness two different Boil Release Techniques of at least D-Rank.
- Ice Release:
Due to winter's icy grip being the herald of death for most plant-life at first glance it may seem an impossibility for a Senju to adapt their Kekkai Genkai to combat such a force. However as any who like in the world's colder climates can tell you, even against the chilling grip of ice and winter, life finds a way. While not entirely impossible, a Senju hoping to effectively combat Ice-Release with their Wood-Release must....- Have one of their Mokuton jutsu remain in contact with a Hyoton jutsu of at least B-rank for two posts.
- Have one of their limbs no smaller than their forearm frozen by a Hyoton jutsu of any rank.
- Ingest a piece of Hyoton ice no smaller than their fist once in their life.
- Have one of their Mokuton jutsu remain in contact with a Hyoton jutsu of at least B-rank for two posts.
- Rubber/Quick-Lime Lava Release:
Showcasing the pinnacle of Senju's adaptability of their Mokuton surviving the raw destructive power of a Yoton Jutsu is only possible against it's more diluted, less Katon-aligned art. Even so, the inherent Katon nature of Yoton makes adapting one's Mokuton against it's ravages the most difficult task a Senju could hope to achieve. In order to weather the ravages of even part of Yoton one must.....- Maintain physical contact with a Rubber/Quick-Lime Yoton jutsu of any rank for 3 posts. This must be done with contact from the Senju's own skin, even clothing will prevent this condition from being satisfied.
- Meditate in the presence of, and complete one social thread with, a Yoton user of at least A-Rank.
- Be brought to their Lethal Damage Threshold by a Yoton Jutsu of any rank.
- Maintain physical contact with a Rubber/Quick-Lime Yoton jutsu of any rank for 3 posts. This must be done with contact from the Senju's own skin, even clothing will prevent this condition from being satisfied.
Due to their Clan's focus on specializing in as many skills as possible, even defining their very name itself, the Senju start with the "Specialist" Positive SC without the need to balance it with a negative. This does not count towards their single Major Positive SC.
- Specialist:
Name: Specialist
Type: Positive (major)
Description: This individual has dedicated a decent amount of time towards training their specializations. Allowing the ninja to train their specializations further than your average ninja, their normal specialization cap is increased by 3 ranks (their rank cap becomes 23 which can still be increased further to 25 through other means).
Six Paths Body
Infamous for having incredibly resilient bodies and DNA, the Senju inherited this mythical resilence from their ancestral ties to Asura and the Sage of the Six Paths. Allowing their bodies to heal, resist and recuperate from injuries other ninja simply lack the ability to shrug off. As the Senju increase in rank, and their own subsequent power grows, they may increase the effectiveness of this ability depending on their rank with a training post of a set Word Count threshold and Ryo cost.
- Beginning at C-Rank a Senju may embark on a solo training thread consisting of no less than 2,500 words and a price of 500 Ryo the Senju gains the ability to recover from wounds equivalent to the Mid values for D-Rank Jutsu after every three posts the Senju makes. They can also recover from wounds equivalent to the damage caused by the Min values of D-Rank Jutsu after every two posts the Senju makes. Both of these abilities are dependent on the Senju receiving no further injuries from the moment they begin to recover.
- Beginning at A-Rank a Senju may embark to further harness the recuperative capabilities of their bloodline. After completing a solo training thread consisting of no less than 4,000 words and costing 4,000 Ryo the Senju gains the ability to recover from wounds equivalent to the Min damage values for a C-Rank jutsu after every 3 posts the Senju makes. They can also recover from wounds equivalent to the damage caused by the Max values of D-Rank Jutsu every two posts the Senju makes. Both of these abilities are dependent on the Senju receiving no further injuries from the moment they begin to recover. In addition at this stage both the Min and Mid values of D-Rank Jutsu damage are now considered negligible enough to heal in the same post they are received.
- Beginning at S-Rank a Senju may now endeavor to achieve the maximum potency of their bloodline. The Senju may attempt to unlock the most powerful regenerative capabilities of their inherited resilience in a solo training thread consisting of no less than 9,500 words and costing 6,000 Ryo. At this stage the Senju can recover from wounds equivalent to the Max values of a C-rank jutsu every 3 posts the Senju makes, and wounds equivalent to the Mid values of a C-Rank Jutsu every 2 posts they make. Both of these abilities are dependent on the Senju receiving no further injuries from the moment they begin to recover. In addition at this stage all of the damage values of D-Rank Jutsu, and the Min damage of C-Rank jutsu, are now considered negligible enough to heal in the same post they are received.
Drawbacks:
- Due to their prestigious bloodline, laying the very literal framework for the entirety of Konohagakure, those of the Senju clan are known to only ever even consider retreat when things are truly hopeless. As such all members must take the "Foolhardy" Negative SC and cannot balance it with a positive.
- Being so closely attuned to hard, unyielding wood and forests the Senju are not especially known for their speed. As such their Speed stat suffers a -1 tier penalty and their speed reduction after utilizing a burst of speed is 1 tier more severe.
- Due to how heavily imbued the Senju are with the essence of their Mokuton chakra, even down to their very DNA, they are highly susceptible to damage from jutsu that cause burning damage. When a Senju is damaged by a burning jutsu they continue to receive damage from said jutsu in every subsequent post afterward, deteriorating at a rate of one rank for every post that passes afterward. As such if a Senju were subjected to a Mid damage B-Rank jutsu, their next post they would receive damage as if struck by a Mid damage C-Rank Jutsu, then a Mid damage D-Rank, before the damage would finally fade.
