Mission name: Far from the Tree.
Mission rank: C.
Objective: Protect the groves!
Location: Deep Forest.
Reward: 300 Ryo +2 EP.
Mission Description: The Sarutobi have somehow pushed the high brass of the summoning monkeys off-kilter in their clan leader's absence, leading relations to be less than amicable. The primates need a lesson on unacceptable behavior, or the orchard will be ruined! Yakiniku Q is spreading flyers to end the apes' rage and protect their precious smoking wood.
Mission Details: This faction of summon-monkeys only travel in ninja-like squads to avoid detection, and thus you'll likely only encounter three or four at a time. These monkeys are Taijutsu masters, adept in physical combat with two stats each of C-3 and C-2, but are universally a bit dull, with Perception of D-2.  They all have access to the standard Katon libraries for ninjutsu, as well as being proficient users of the Transformation Technique, which they use to ambush those they detect coming after them.

Being rather single-minded, blunt, and obviously peeved, these primates won't cool off until defeated in battle. They are no splinter group, so even if you defeat this batch it's unlikely the arbor-arson in the area will cease....Nonetheless, turning them over to the Sarutobi clan's acting head is a requirement for mission completion. Additionally, you can fail this mission by injudiciously using techniques that burn or otherwise destroy the wood beyond use for smoking. (While no collateral damage whatsoever is appreciated, cutting techniques at least make it easier on the laborers.)

If there was anything that Joe couldn't handle right now, it was a new mission. On top of the constant anxiety of exams, on top of the match with Yoh that had shaken him to his very core, on top of the anxiety attacks that were crippling him in the midst of this identity crisis- he was being asked to go through with a C-rank mission to help the Sarutobi clan. When he had been approached with the order, the Genin was initially hesitant about accepting to say the least. He wasn't in the right state of mind to be doing anything right now, heck, if he talked to a doctor he probably would've been told to withdraw from the tournament. He couldn't help it, he felt mentally scarred after his fight in the second round. What was he even fighting for anymore? He kept asking himself that question. Of course he nodded and accepted the task, he was still a shinobi, and if he couldn't perform under distress both physical and mental, he should've hung up his headband right then and there. Maybe some self-inflicted tough love would shake him out of this funk, and there was no better way of doing that then taking on a frustrating task like this.

He was dressed in his normal clothing, a black and red top along with flowing, baggy, black pants. Hey, he didn't do much to change up his appearance, that cost money- something he certainly didn't have! Insted, the average Joe just walked down the streets of Konohagakure without trying to stand out too much. The third rounds were coming, and with them, the inevitable swarm of ravenous people all trying to place increasingly high wagers on who might win the whole thing. It sort of made him a bit bitter in a way. Wasn't the point of these exams to prove that they could handle the challenges to become a Chunin? Instead, this whole thing had developed into a tournament with little to separate it from the underground brawling of unrefined thugs. The realization made the words of the Ronin Senju feel all the more real as they haunted him. 'Fighting for a flag', that's what he said Joe was doing, just a piece of cloth waving in the wind. Konohagakure was his home, he wanted to protect it, but somewhere deep inside of him, he knew that he had to find a deeper reason than that. He had told Yoh that he fought because he must- that he was afraid what would happen if he stopped... Kami help him, who was he anymore?

He finally reached the location of the mission. The entrance to the deep forests of the Sarutobi family estate. It was a large stretch of land that went on well into the foothills of the outskirts of the village. Joe had never really known much about them save for their skill with all forms of jutsu. He stopped, turning around at the large red Torii gate that marked the archway into the family-owned lands. He briefly glanced over the paper, he hadn't been told who his partner was meant to be, only that they'd be here soon... Joe steeled his nerves, attempting to put on a fake smile and a friendly demeanor, he wanted to do this mission and do it right.

As a way to pass the time and keep his skills sharp between matches, he signed up for a mission to pass the time. He had seen the flyers up on the mission board so he figured he would take it upon himself to go ahead and complete it and get some extra cash. The mission seemed simple enough, all he needed to do was round up some monkeys and protect the grove for the Sarutobi clan. Given he already had most of his gear on him due to the exams going on, he was well prepared for tacking on a few monkeys. He was clad in in his normal attire with his brown blanket draped across his shoulders and his bow slung across his back. He wore his brand new gauntlets which he had yet to test out in actual combat yet so this would be a good test for them. Fighting head on wasn't necessarily his strong suit so maybe this would be the perfect opportunity to get better at close quarters combat before his next match. It was a skill he had always wished he had to supplement his skill at ranged combat with his bow. He gave S'Yan, who was perched upon his shoulder, the run down of what they would be doing. S'Yan let out a small scretch in acknowledgement of their objectives. The two had grown quite close in a short amount of time, likely due to N'Jobu's affinity for insects but the two surely got along quite well even though S'Yan liked to munch on his Kikaichū from time to time.

N'Jobu and S'Yan made their way towards the the Sarutobi estate where the groves were located so that he could start the mission. He had never been to the Sarutobi estate before so it would be an interesting change of pace. Before he knew it, he had stumbled upon the entrance which was adorned with a large red gate with someone waiting by it. It was a male shinobi dressed in a black and red top with baggy black pants with a seemingly forced smile adorning his face. "Hey,...name is N'Jobu. You here to do this mission about the monkeys too I suppose?" He would wait a few moments for the other shinobi to respond and if he too was to be joining he would ask if he knew anything about the situation at hand since the boy had clearly arrived earlier than he did.

Footsteps alerted the Genin to the approaching stranger. He turned to see the face of his new partner for this mission. Caramel skin and black braided hair greeted the boy, as did the modest cloak that was draped over the shinobi's torso. He introduced himself as N'Jobu, he looked around Joe's age though the latter couldn't remember if he'd ever seen him at the academy or not. Still, the casual way in which the other boy approached him did enough to cause the forced smile on Joe's face to cease to a more calm and thoughtful expression. This was an unusual assignment at an even more unusual time, they'd do what they could to make the most out of things for now. "I'm Joe... Yoshihiro Joe" the boy replied, slowly stretching out his hand for the other Genin to shake. "I'm here for the monkey's too, yeah" he added, looking through the nearby gate into the forest groves where the rampant primates were running wild. "They're tough apparently. Definitely scary when it comes to Taijutsu- not too smart beyond that though. What kind of a jutsu kit are you packing?" the teen asked, looking back to N'Jobu briefly before beginning to walk into the forest grove of the Sarutobi estate.

The walk through the forest would be rather short, all things considered. It was more of a large-scale garden and grove than anything else. The trees were all arranged in organized rows that seemed indistinguishable from one another, all to allow the harvesting of the smoking wood to be easier. "How are the exams going for you so far?" Joe would asked, looking over his shoulder to the other Genin, assuming that he was competing as well. He hadn't had the opportunity to talk much with any other competitors outside of matches, he had neither had the free time nor the heart to do so until now. Of course he remained anxious, but hearing if others felt a similar way might go some small way to help him alleviate his fears. Their talk would remain short, for it wouldn't take long for them to reach the center of the grove where a ruckus could be heard emanating from. Joe looked ahead of him at the clearing of trees that was awaiting them, his brow furrowing as he saw the sight of the vagrants in question.

There were for monkeys in total, each with varying degrees of brown or tan fur that covered them head to toe. Each wore some basic ninja gear, opting to wear smaller-scaled forehead protectors around the waist. The biggest amongst them wore what looked like a form of heavy armor meant for a primate. It wore black sunglasses and squatted atop a red shinto shrine, "Alright boys, say goodbye to bannanas and hello to our new business-" the gruff monkey stated, holding the object in question up for his goons to see, "-Cigars" he announced, causing the monkeys hovering around him to holler and chirp in support of their group's big boss man. "Back with the Sarutobi boys we couldn't of made it big. But now, with all this good stuff, we'll be rollin' in the dough faster than you can say ponzi scheme" the monkey said, sitting down on top of the shrine and using one of his feet to create a small flame that lit the cigar he had placed into his mouth. He puffed it contently whilst his goons egged him on, "Yeah boss, yeah!" one chimped, "First we get the human money, then we can get all the human women! Female monkeys don't have NEARLY the kinda breasts that these shinobi girls do!" the second ape agreed, followed by the third, "I wanna get so rich that I can buy the Mizukage for the night! YeaYeaYeah" the three goons jumped up and down on top of the shrine, watching their visionary mob boss smoke the cigar to realize the two humans who had intruded on them. The boss frowned as he pointed at the two with his foot.

"Hey, you two- scram! We're talkin' Monkey Business here. A couple'a no-tail chump chimps don't got annythin' to say to a couple'a upstandin' apes like us!" the boss shouted. He eyed the two over carefully, his gaze resting on N'Jobu more than Joe. "If you wanna tussle with the muscle, then I've only got THREE words for you!... Step Off!" the boss monkey stated, leaping up onto his feet, cigar still in his mouth and shades gleaming against the rays of sunshine as he chopped at the air in front of him whilst glaring at the humans. It looked like this was going to be a fight!

He waited a second for the other shinobi to respond who quickly began to speak, "I'm Joe... Yoshihiro Joe," before reaching out his hand for a friendly handshake. Not wanting to be rude, N'Jobu obliged the other shinobi by shaking his hand before retreating his arm back under his cloak.  "I'm here for the monkey's too, yeah. They're tough apparently. Definitely scary when it comes to Taijutsu- not too smart beyond that though. What kind of a jutsu kit are you packing?" the boy would continue on. "It's difficult to explain, probably easiest to show you when the time comes I suppose," he would retort hoping his fellow Leaf comrade would just trust in his abilities. It seemed to be enough as he began heading into the estate through the gates as N'Jobu followed him.

The pair would walk through the gardens which were set up in rows for ease of harvesting, making their job of finding the subjects in question a bit easier than trying to find their way in a more maze like garden. As they walked they walked the other genin asked him about his time during the chunin exams and how they were going. "They are fine. Nothing to exciting I suppose. You?" he would reply back, keeping it short and sweet as he was not the most fond of small talk. It wouldn't be long however before the sounds of the primates in question would echo through the grove in front of them, helping to find their targets. The two would sneak over to the source of the sounds, finding four monkeys in total, garbed in basic shinobi gear who all appeared to be capable of speech unlike most primates. "Alright boys, say goodbye to bannanas and hello to our new business-Cigars. Back with the Sarutobi boys we couldn't of made it big. But now, with all this good stuff, we'll be rollin' in the dough faster than you can say ponzi scheme," one of the monkey's said. They would continue on discussing what they could do when they got rich, digressing into less than savory discussions of what they would do with the Mizukage.

"What did I get myself into..." he lamented to himself as it appeared they had been discovered by the leader of the group of monkeys. "Hey, you two- scram! We're talkin' Monkey Business here. A couple'a no-tail chump chimps don't got annythin' to say to a couple'a upstandin' apes like us! If you wanna tussle with the muscle, then I've only got THREE words for you!... Step Off!," the monkey would scream. "That was only two words," he would respond back sarcastically. "I'll take the big one. Can you handle the others Joe?" he would ask of his comrade hoping to split things up and make the fight a bit easier.

"Two words? Two words???? Are you trying to get my goat kid? Because I'm a monkey, and you'd be racist if you tried to associate me with a goat!" the largest monkey hollared as it slammed its fists against the top of the simple shinto-style shrine to the nature spirits. It seemed that diplomacy was going down really quickly with this mission- heck, it probably had never really been much of an option to begin with. Instead, YoJo simply nodded at N'Jobu's statement. "Alright, you can take the lead then" the Genin offered, turning his attention to the two smaller creatures that were eyeing the duo and were, for lack of a better term, 'chimping out' on these chumps.

"GET 'EM BOYS!" the leader shouted, prompting the two to launch themselves forwards through the air at the duo on the ground. Joe frowned as he stepped forwards, sending a sudden gust of wind to rush forwards from behind him and N'Jobu, knocking the smaller chimps backwards and nullifying their momentum as they had flown through the air. They crashed down onto the stone with a thud, but were quickly back onto their feet as if they hadn't even felt a thing. Yikes, well, so much for just slapping them around a bit and hoping for the best, it seemed the two Genin would actually have to fight these lthings.

Whilst YoJo drew the attention of the two smaller ones away, the leader lept forwards off of the roof of the shrine towards where N'Jobu was standing. In a puff of smoke, a large bamboo staff appeared in its hand, being swung vertically downwards to where the monkey saw the other Genin to be. "Monkey Style: Eight-Sheathes-of-Bamboo!" it shouted, crashing down to the ground with enough strength and raw force to crack the stone that the small courtyard was comprised of. It would not stop there though, keeping its gaze trained on the stranger as it lept again towards where the shinobi was in case it had dodged the first blow. A total of eight times, it would leap 5 meters to close the gap between itself and the shinobi, aiming to crash its empowered staff against the Genin with enough force to fracture bones! Even though its speed seemed to remain the same, a basic 9 m/s of movement, t was working hard to keep the pressure on!

YoJo unfurled the pouch on his leg, hurling a couple of shuriken at the monkeys as they got a handle on their surroundings again. They were dodged fairly easily, with the two primates suddenly rushing towards the Genin in a figure 8 mode of movement, weaving along a path at great speed, threatening to flank YoJo if he tried to attack one over the other. These were real nin-pets, they certainly knew how to fight!

It appeared that his sarcasm was not thoroughly appreciated by the large monkey who responded back angrily, "Two words? Two words???? Are you trying to get my goat kid? Because I'm a monkey, and you'd be racist if you tried to associate me with a goat!" Given his response, it seemed like a fight would be inevitable, and he would end up having to take on the large oaf of a monkey on his one while Joe would handle the others. "GET 'EM BOYS!" he would say as the two smaller chimps jumped down in an attempt to take on N'Jobu and Joe. Just as he was about to cast one of his own jutsu, it appeared that Joe was already on it as he sent a gale of futon bursting forward, knocking the two monkeys off to the side as they bounced off the hard ground seemingly unbothered by the minor setback of their progress. Joe would move off drawing their attention away while leaving N'Jobu the task of dealing with the large brute who jumped down from his perch.

"Monkey Style: Eight-Sheathes-of-Bamboo!" he would shout as he crashed down to the round with a stick of bamboo which appeared in his hand in a puff of smoke. N'Jobu would use his gauntlets to launch himself out of the way before being struck by the staff which cracked the ground as it struck down with incredible force. "Gotta make sure I Don't get hit with that..." he muttered to himself under his breath as he moved to dodge another strike from the massive bamboo stick. It crashed close to him this time as he realized the monkey was significantly faster than he anticipated so he would soon have to change up his approach or otherwise be seriously injured. "Seems like you can't aim monkey boy!" he yelled at the ape, hoping to bait him into the next attack to intended to subdue. "I'll get you, you little!...." the ape would yell in rage as he swung down his bamboo with all his might as N'Jobu launched himself out of the way into the air giving him the vantage point to launch his prison jutsu to neutralize the threat. As he floated through the air, he would summon a swarm of his insects toward the ape, ensnaring him in a spherical prison of venomous beetles aimed to blind the beast and take away his sense of sight making the fight a bit easier. The insects would begin to inject it with a potent venom which attacked the optical nerves, rendering any unfortunate soul unlucky enough to be caught within, blinded in darkness. He would land back on the ground a few meters away from the sphere, brushing himself off of the dust that had been kicked up by their antics.

"Well Joe, I think I got this under control so far. How's things going for you?" he would ask of his leaf comrade who appeared to be holding his own for the time being. Before he could fully digest a response from Joe, the prison of beetles erupted into flames as the Ape emerged enraged N'Jobu's technique. "I'm gonna kill you twerp! Come here!" he said as he began to charge N'Jobu in a blind rage. "Ah shit..."

Yojo was too preoccupied with the advancing nin-pets to be able to see how N'jobu was fairing. So far, the 2-on-1 attack was something that the shinobi was struggling to balance. The figure 8 of the lesser monkeys had him as their point of attack. In a sudden burst of speed, the duo lept up into the air, ready for the attack. Seeing a gap, the Genin leapt straight up, letting the primates beneath him crash into one another on the ground. It seemed these things were strong and fast, but not all too smart. Without a shinobi giving them commands, their free reign was rather inadequate. The boy clapped his hands together, pushing them down towards the ground beneath him as he hovered in the air for a moment at the apex of his leap. When he opened his palms to face the scrambling duo, arcing cuts of wind lashed out, crashing into both chimp chumps to create a series of cuts and knicks all over their body. They yelped and shouted, flailing about as they pulled themselves off one another.

The sudden damage seemed to have halted their momentum from the start of the fight. Bloodied and having just been made fools of, they were somewhere inbetween looking for their boss for directions on whether to keep fighting or to try and flee. There was no summoning jutsu to get them out of this jam. In the end, as Yojo would descend back down to the earth a short ways away, he would see the twin monkeys pull out small bamboo short-staffs built for creatures of their size. One rushed forwards, forming a pair of seals before exhaling out a fireball at Yojo. It's partner ran in the wake of the blast, ready to follow up and use the fire as cover for an assault. With some modicum of distance, the boy jerked as if to dodge, but realized that doing so would put the grove at risk. If it was se ton fire or cut, as had beend escribed in the mission, they would fail their task! Begrudgingly, the boy stood firm as the ball of fire crashed into him. First degree burns peppered his face and body, forcing him to grit his teeth.

The second monkey lept up, staff raised above, preparing to slam it down on the teen's head to crack it open. In a swift movement, Yojo crossed his leg in front of him, prompting a gust of wind to shoot upwards, knocking both the airborne and jutsu-casting monkeys upwards. The duo let out a shout, flailing about as the updraft caught them off guard. The boy formed the bird hand seal, prompting a trio of cartoonish looking green birds to materialize above him. They zipped forwards, crashing into the pair and sending them falling towards the area where N'jobu and the big bad monkey were fighting. His goons ha dbeen knocked out, though Yojo had certainly not come out scratchless himself. Hopefully, the sight of seeing his underlings hurt would be enough for the leader to realize the jig was up. They might finish this mission peacefully instead of having to keep fighting.

As the large ape began to rush him, N'Jobu prepared himself to launch another jutsu to halt the beast and stop him from doing any significant damage to the groves. He had caught a bit of a glimpse Joe fighting the other two monkeys off to the side. It appeared he was handling things on his own as the two monkeys flew over to his area, landing just off the path where the large ape was charging. In a swift motion, he drew his bow and let loose two arrows of insects flying towards the beast in an effort to stop him in his tracks. Considering its size, it was unlikely he would be able to dodge his arrows which moved quite quickly as the beast charged toward them. The arrows streaked through the air as the ape raged forward, striking him square in the chest as the arrows exploded into a swarm of insects which ensnared him to the ground and arrested his charge forward. "Why you little!!" the monkey boss screamed as he looked toward N'Jobu with rage in his eyes.

"Look,...I don't want to hurt you. But I will if you continue this," N'Jobu said as he took a real arrow from its quiver and nocked it on his bow. "This one will stop you permanently. I suggest you cool down before I have to use it. Look to your sides. Your friends are down for the count. It's just you now. Please just give it up..." N'Jobu pleaded to the Monkey boss. The ape boss looked down to his sides to witness his fellow henchman knocked out cold on the ground from Joe's assault. N'Jobu took a quick look over to Joe to see how he was holding up. "How you holding up over there Joe?" he asked as he diverted his eyes back to the monkey boss to ensure he didn't escape his bondage. "So what will it be, are you going to go peacefully or are we going to have to put you down permanently?" N'Jobu asked of the beast as he continued to keep his bow trained on his heart.

The monkey boss contemplated his options for a moment before realizing the gravity of his situation and simmed his rage down. "Iight...I'll give up. I'll get for this next time kid. Just get these bugs off me will ya!" the monkey boss said as he tried to brush the insects from his body to no avail.  "Ok...But you better keep your word," N'Jobu said remaining cautious as he summoned his insects back. The insects swarmed away from the Monkey boss as he flicked off the remainder of the insects from his body and walked over to his comrades. He leaned over and picked up his two henchmen from the ground and slung them over his shoulder as if they were no heavier than a feather. "Come on ya dopes. You got cher butts kicked..." he said as he shook his head. "I'll get chu two next time! And you won't stop us then!" he screamed out before jumping away towards the other exit on the far end of the grove. Now that the threat had been taken care of he made his way over to joe who appeared to have been slightly scorched during his fight with the two monkeys. "Looks like you had some fun with those two huh," he said with a smirk on his face. "Here lemme take care of those burns for you. This is going to feel really weird but it'll be fine," he said as he touched Joe's skin and released a small swarm of his nanoinsects to heal his wounds.

Yojo watched the scene play out vividly. The head honcho monkey was chimping out at his chump chimps falling a this feet battered and bruised. They'd recover fine, but they certainly weren't about to get up again after being knocked down so decisively by their opponent. Although the human hadn't seen it, his partner had dealt with the large Sarutobi monkey in a likewise decisive fashion. He had locked the creature in a prison of bugs as well as held it in a checkmate. Through the dual factors compressing it inwards, the leader finally began to cool down, accepting that he had lost, and that his dreams of ponzi-scheme domination were going to only be pipe dreams. Yojo watched as it picked up its henchmen from the ground, scampering away back to the Sautobi estate.

"I'm all right, just burned on both a physical and pride level" he joked half-heartedly, eyeing the strange nanoinsects as they helped to heal the burns that had caught a glancing blow off him. He looked back up to his partner, "You did good too, I'm impressed you kept such a cool head" he complimented, struggling to toss out something supportive to the bug-master in return. Ultimately, the two had succeeded their mission. The small talk might've gone on for a while, but they had at last finished this strange misadventure. Yojo was ready to go home and eat some dumplings.

N'Jobu watched as his insects cleaned up the wounds on Joe as he stood there for a few moments. "I'm all right, just burned on both a physical and pride level, You did good too, I'm impressed you kept such a cool head," Joe would reply as the insects healed the minor burns on his body. "Thanks," N'Jobu replied as he began walking back towards the main gate. "Looks like we are done here so I'm going to head out. I'll see you around..." he said as he took off back towards the Aburame compound. He was starving from all the activity so he couldn't wait to get back and have a nice meal to tide him over. With great haste he began to run through the streets, flipping over obstacles and vaulting over anything in his way on the way back home. Parkour was a way for him to cool down after a stressful day so the freedom of flying through the streets was something that would never get old.
