D-rank
Clan Name: Dao Clan
Location: Yuki no Kuni [Kirigakure Start]
Specialization:
- Ninjutsu [Required]
- Kinjutsu [Implied] (All corruption based techniques are Kinjutsu)
Elements: Any
Most members of the Dao Clan never fully awaken their bloodline, they are however very skilled shinobi and intelligent to begin with. Giving them a massively positive reputation all over Yuki no Kuni and Mizu no Kuni. The pure Dao's are famous for their beauty and skill. They are loved and carried throughout wherever they go. Their strength to overcome their tainted past is but a reminder of how good can always prevail against evil. How one of disciplined mind and character can use the powers genetically inherited by the Hyouton genes of Onna Yuki, to completely deny the devilish corruption that awaits within them. Allowing the Dao and their family members to lead a normal, comfortable life in honour and happiness.
However, there are those whom desire power more than to keep themselves pure. Those whom would slay their own loved ones usually do it for the single goal of obtaining an unnatural power that can play on equal grounds with those demons from ancient times. The corruption will grow the more they taint their hands with the blood of their enemies. However all corruption must start by killing a loved one with their own hands. It however, is no requirement to do so willingly. There have been reports about Dao's sacrificing themselves upon the blades of their loved ones to grant them this unholy gift of corruption. However for most Dao's this is seen as a curse and hence even on the brink of death, most would rather choose a dignified end over succumbing to the corruption within their blood.
- Cursed Blood:
Demons have always been with us, part of us, within us but never beside us. The existence of demons has been confirmed many aeons ago. They have been worshipped as gods among many of the dark creatures in our world. History scrolls indicate that even during the Warring States Period, monsters that fit the very description of demons have been seen among men, slaughtering their foes to the hundreds. However more recent research clearly indicates that the demons exist in their very own plane of existence, their own dimension. For many years only extremely powerful shinobi managed, under the practice of Kinjutsu (forbidden techniques), to get in contact with a demon and temporarily summon them into our plane to tap into their insane godlike powers. However, the practice has always been shunned for the simple fact, that all known interactions of humans and demons eventually required a human sacrifice.
The only demon contracts that were ever seen as somewhat acceptable were the ones where the user sacrificed their own life in return to tap into the powers. But most of those users didn't even have the time to be shunned as they already paid the ultimate price for using their techniques. If, however someone was to meet a shinobi dealing in demonic contracts while the contract holder is alive, it would be very well known that they must have done something utterly cruel and inhumane to gain access to this power. In the worlds history, demon hunters specifically made it their task to find these kinds of inhuman bastards and bring them to their ultimate justice. The Dao Clan of Yuki no Kuni was one of those Clan's involved historically with the demon blood and their family was almost wiped out from existence more than once. But somehow, the offspring of the demon blood always survives the ages.
While the Dao Clan were by far not the only family reported as users of Demon contracts, they were the ones said to be directly descendant by Oni themselves. The two most famous historical Dao members were the Clan's official founding parents at the end of the Warring States Period.
- The Demon Emperor:
Shuten Dōji Dao
Before he became a legendary monster, Shuten Dōji Dao was a troublesome orphan child. He was very strong and very smart; so much so that people believed his father must have been a demon or a dragon. At an early age he was apprenticed to the Mt. Aisu temple complex and became a monk. However, monastic life did not suit him. He was disrespectful, he got into fights with the other monks, and he was lazy in his studies. He spent most of his time drinking sake, which is how he earned the nickname Shuten Dōji, or “little drunkard.”
One night during a festival, Shuten Dōji got really drunk and decided to play pranks. He put on an oni mask and snuck around the festival, jumping out of the darkness and scaring festival-goers. After the festival, he was unable to take the oni mask off. It had fused to his face, becoming a part of his body. When he sought help from the abbot, he was scolded for his wickedness. He was mocked and teased by the other monks for his ugliness. His heart became like an oni too – wicked, and full of anger. Shuten Dōji left the monastery and fled into the mountains to live as a hermit.
In his solitude, Shuten Dōji grew to hate the world. He embraced his wickedness and began to study Kinjutsu. He used his power and wit to attack the merchants and travellers moving through his area. He kidnapped young men and women to drink their blood and eat their organs. With each passing year he grew more powerful, and more violent. His infamy grew, and other wicked people began to flock to his cause. Like Shuten Dōji, these people transformed into oni. Before long, Shuten Dōji had become like a king to a small army of demons.
Shuten Dōji and his thugs built a castle on Mount Aisu upon the ruins of his former monastery. He set his sights on wreaking vengeance upon the cruel world and becoming ruler over all of Yuki no Kuni. Using the mountain as a base of operations, Shuten Dōji’s army began to attack the capital in greater frequency. Their kidnappings and murders attracted the attention of Feudal Lord, who decided that Shuten Dōji needed to be stopped before he became any more powerful.
The emperor commanded his bravest warrior, Raikō Hachi, to climb Mount Aisu and bring back the head of Shuten Dōji. Raikō and his men ventured into the mountains and found the army of oni inside their castle, drinking sake. They poisoned the sake, and when the oni had all fallen into a poison-induced drunken slumber, Raikō and his men snuck into the castle.
They slew the oni one by one, and finally they reached Shuten Dōji. Raikō swung his sword and sliced off the oni king’s head. Shuten Dōji was so powerful that even after he had been killed, his head continued to bite at the heroes. Eventually the head was buried outside of the city limits, where it could cause no more trouble.
- Ghost of the Snow:
Onna Yuki
Yuki-onna appears on snowy nights as a tall, beautiful woman with long black hair and blue lips. Her inhumanly pale or even transparent skin makes her blend into the snowy landscape (as famously described in Helen Aisu's "Stories and Studies of Strange Things"). She sometimes wears a white kimono, but other legends describe her as nude, with only her face and hair standing out against the snow. Despite her inhuman beauty, her eyes can strike terror into mortals. She floats across the snow, leaving no footprints (in fact, some tales say she has no feet, a feature of many Japanese ghosts), and she can transform into a cloud of mist or snow if threatened.
Some legends say the Yuki-onna, being associated with winter and snowstorms, is the spirit of someone who perished in the snow. She is at the same time beautiful and serene, yet ruthless in killing unsuspecting mortals. Until the First Great Ninja War, she was almost uniformly portrayed as evil. Today, however, stories often colour her as more human, emphasizing her ghost-like nature and ephemeral beauty.
In many stories, Yuki-onna appears to travellers trapped in snowstorms, and uses her icy breath to leave them as frost-coated corpses. Other legends say she leads them astray so they simply die of exposure. Other times, she manifests holding a child. When a well-intentioned soul takes the "child" from her, they are frozen in place. Parents searching for lost children are particularly susceptible to this tactic. Other legends make Yuki-onna much more aggressive. In these stories, she often invades homes, blowing in the door with a gust of wind to kill residents in their sleep (some legends require her to be invited inside first).
What Yuki-onna is after varies from tale to tale. Sometimes she is simply satisfied to see a victim die. Other times, she is more vampiric, draining her victims' blood or "life force." She occasionally takes on a succubus-like manner, preying on weak-willed men to drain or freeze them through sex or a kiss.
- Yin and Yang:
While Shuten Dōji was said to have had many wives, some more some less willing, he had one that truly touched his cold heart. The snow demoness, Onna Yuki. It came to his massive displeasure as he realized that none of the children that she gave him however, did unlike all his others, not turn into Oni themselves. The frost of her unique genes even among the Yuki Clan, literally freezing the process of the demon corruption within them. Turning them into what they had become, humans with a sealed frozen, demonic heritage of the ancient, true oni that had walked this plane.
During the demonic purge that led to the expected first extinction of the Dao Clan, all offspring of Shuten Dōji had been hunted down and eradicated. Except for the children he had with Onna Yuki. As unlike Dōji other kids, they had no visible remarks of their demon blood and could be easily hidden beneath the masses as normal human children. Carrying the demonic corruption within their genes for generations without being exposed. Reviving their Clan into fame as glorious leaders among the ranks of powerful shinobi from Yukigakure.
In more modern ages. There had been various reports that those of the corrupted Dao blood sometimes re-awaken their long lost heritage through cruel acts of inhuman brutality. Becoming once more the feared monsters they were in their past. Many of the Dao blood marry back into their sister Clans of the Yuki heritage. Following the prophecy that the frost within their veins can contain the genes of the demon blood and allow their children to live a normal live.
In any cases. The battle between the demonic dark side of the dao's and their frozen purity of the light side has become a legend on it's own. Pure Bloods will always be respected and worshiped for their perseverance and humble nature, while Demon Bloods will be shunned but also feared for their inhuman power.
The Clans have formed a symbiotic existence that relies a lot on tradition and heritage. Dao's usually find themselves in great positions of political power following the bloodline back to many emperors and feudal lords. While the Yuki are still known as one of the clans to find themselves with great physical power and talents of the frost within their genes. Most families that still honor the traditions of old by marrying their children within their families do so in a more free and symbolic way. But not rarely do Dao women favor men of Yuki blood as the possibility of giving birth to a cursed child seems to be but a horrifying possibility to them.
- Recorded Members:
Dao, Shuten DōjiYuki, Onna
Dao, Daemon
Dao, Motoko
Kekkei Genkai Name: Akuma No Chi (Demon Blood)
Kekkei Genkai Description: Dao's are historically cursed to bear the blood of true demons in their veins. Making their existence an eternal battle between their Yin and Yang energies. However siding with either of those energies is said to grant the Dao's strength in reward to their resolve for either, Light or Darkness paths.
A 'Pure Blood' Dao draws its power from Yin Release. Their dedication to serve the light and fight the genetic evil that resides within their genes gives them access to a unique resolve that empowers them passively in many ways. Becoming talents and legends on their own accord.
A 'Demon Blood' Dao draws its power from Yang Release. They have abandoned the light within them and turned to the utter purity of dark energy that lies hidden within them. Tapping on the genetic properties from their ancestors they become one with the demon world. Allowing them access to both, forbidden demonic artifacts as well as a true demon form that adorns their bodies with seemingly impenetrable, corrosive armor, as well as giving them superhuman strength.
- Pure Blood:
Unnatural Talent
While the demon blood remains dormant and frozen within them. Dao Clan are renowned warriors and are known to be genius shinobi of almost unparalleled skill as to where they come from. Receiving multiple passive bonuses while they remain pure from their potential corruption.
- Skill: 10% lower WC requirements to all training.
- Talent: 10% lower Ryo cost towards all training.
- Beauty: 10% lower Ryo cost on items.
- Demon Blood:
Demonic Artifacts
Perks: Dao Demons may app up to two items that can be classified as 'Demonic Artifact'. These items may have various aesthetic modifiers that makes them look more like living beings rather than just items and are often considered to have a mind and voice of their own.
These artifacts gain the free passive effect of wielding the same demonic corruption of the demon blood permanently. Any skin that would come into contact with a demonic artifact will suffer tissue damage to the corrosive properties of the item. The tissue damage received is equal to the damage caused of the items current rank in relation to the bloodline damage. Hence, for example a B-Rank Artifact causes major 2nd degree tissue damage upon skin contact with a non-dao or demon. This free passive effect does not remove the items normal passive ability slot.
All demonic artifacts have 10% reduced Ryo cost for creation and reforge / enhancement due to their rarity. But are otherwise to be created and put through approval like any other item.
Restriction: Artifacts can't be created before C-Rank (Ninja Rank) as they cannot be below B-Rank (Item Rank). Since they will need to be reforged for higher ranks and cannot be sold once created. One could however completely discard an artifact without getting any money back to create a completely new one if they wish to abandon a previous item concept.
Demonic Armor
Dao Demons can gain access to their true demonic form. This form naturally increases the thickness of their skin to become as hard and solid as rock. The skin adorning them also becomes of corrosive nature and will melt almost everything that comes into contact with it. Exceptions to that are Demonic Artifacts and unique 'Corrosion Resistant Fabrics' that however can't serve of any defensive value and often are just means to cover certain private parts.
The demonic power also grants an immense boost to strength. Often seen as a berserker mode for many that have had the pleasure to see a Dao Demon in battle. They are well known to reap through the masses of enemies like unstoppable monsters and anyone that dares to touch them or allow the demons to come close will either be torn apart or slowly suffer under the dissolving properties of the corrosive, skin melting bodies of these unholy creatures.
How the Dao Demon looks in their active bloodline stage is up to them, many demons have been known to have many aesthetic values added to their demonic appearance to underline their imposing and terrifying display of power.- Demonic Armor - Bloodline Stages:
Oddity: Kijimunaa
Requirement: At Genin (D Rank), should a Dao have killed a loved one with their own hands. (Requiring a 2000 word thread +500 ryo.)

Additionally their skin turns hard as rock and burns up to have sudden, corrosive properties, starting to dissolve anything that comes into contact with it. The defensive properties of their skin are considered as a complete full body armor. Cutting into their skin will however only damage that area and not break their entire body armor, making it far more durable in comparison to normally worn armor types.
At this rank the power bonus received adds +1 tier to their strength. Their natural heavy armor equals defense stats of a D-Ranked heavy armor set and the corrosive skin may cause up to a minor 1st degree tissue damage upon any contact with their skin.

Chakra: -15 per post
Drawbacks:
- Pure Blood:
Extreme Hesistation: While the corruption of their demon blood remains dormant, the refined pure hearted Dao's also pay a price for suppressing their supposedly genetic call for strength. They will receive the drawback being capable of having 1 less specialization and element for each rank. However the delay for them to learn them is not as slow as with normal shinobi's progression:
D Rank: Can have 1 Element and Specialization each
C-B Rank: Can have 2 Element and Specialization each
A-S Rank: Can have 3 Element and Specialization each
- Demon Blood:
Corrosive Skin: Being able to set your skin ablaze with corrosive properties might come in handy but also puts the user into problematic situations. Normal weapons, armor and other items will eventually dissolve and be rendered useless after one full IC post of wearing or holding them. Due to that, the only items completely immune to this are the demonic artifacts. Due to aesthetic reasons and also to cover certain body parts. A Dao can however app 'Corrosion Resistant Fabrics' for clothing and accessories they wish to use and wear. These fabrics are however limited to passive effects only and are unable to have any armor properties, mechanic or active chakra abilities.
•- [Normal items dissolve, during active bloodline]
•- [Restricted item pool, no armors, no active abilities]
Heavy burden: The demonic armor is wonderfully protective in many ways. But a skin that can turn to corrosive stone is heavy. Dao Demons suffer -3 tiers to speed while the bloodline is activated.
•- [Speed reduction -3, during active bloodline]
Demonic Presence: While the bloodline is activated, the demon will exhale a monstrous aura within a 10m radius making it completely impossible for them to hide into any kind of stealth technique.
•- [Inability for stealth, during active bloodline]
Corruption Disclaimer:
- Become Demon:
A Dao Clan will also lose all positive passive perks from being 'Pure Blood' by giving into their demonic corruption and activating their bloodline at any given rank but it will also remove their extreme hesitation drawback and unlock a lot of hidden potential.
A Dao Clan can tap directly into any rank of their bloodline as long as they fulfill the requirements of that stages activation. If one were to give into their corruption at A-Rank they solely have to fulfill the IC Plot Requirements, WC and Ryo requirements for the A-Rank stage.
It has to be stated next to the Clan Link in the character profile if the Dao is of 'Pure Blood' or of 'Demon Blood'. If they are corrupted demons, they also have to state their current bloodline stage at the top of their jutsu list and get it there alike training a jutsu in the approval process.
Characters are allowed to start directly as demons if they reason for their corruption is stated in their History. However to unlock either of the bloodline stages they still have to do the training thread for it.
Once a character is corrupted they can never return to be pure again. The demonic corruption is absolutely irreversible.
