Clan History: The Katō were originally simply a group of people that had their friends/family killed by Konoha hero Dan Katō; later, it could come to include the following of people who idolized him. They realized, however, that no amount of protest would ever give them the solace they deserved, and so decided to strike back against the shinobi world with the very weapon they were dealt. Over the years, they have been perfecting the technique that for so long they had hated; many a ninja died from trial-and-error. Only recently has the secret clan technique been developed, by virtue of previous mistakes and natural selection. Very few, though, have sheer natural talent enough to perform it.
Kekkei Genkai Description: The Katō are particularly attuned to the spiritual plane in general, and know the general workings of one's soul, enough so to create jutsu related to the spirit. They can manipulate raw physical and mental energies (explained below) as if they were chakra, as well as control their own soul as an extension of their body. Higher-ranking or more complicated jutsu may respectively be able to do this to the spirits of others, or ambient chakra. Any jutsu that manipulates or has to do with the Katō's spirit can be classified as Medical Ninjutsu.
As the Katō define it (and how their own body operates): The soul is the agglomeration of a person's mental energy as well as their physical energy. The mental energy governs one's actions while the physical energy (which is not the body, but merely inhabits it) allows one to carry out these actions. Ninja often combine these as one to form chakra; thus, the soul can be seen as each human being's source of chakra. The spirit moves at +1 the ninja's normal speed, due to being in the spiritual plane. The spirit can move at max speed from a standstill.
The Mokone Mishin is a trait of the Katō, a born affinity to natural energy; using the Spiritualization Technique, they can use it as 'life support' to keep their body alive without a spirit. Being able to control their spirit outside their body, they can also mold pure spiritual energies and chakra even while Spiritualized.
- Clansmen have a special connection with natural energy. They can process it into their normal chakra differently than most people, allowing them to use Senjutsu outside of Sage Mode.
Drawbacks:
- Due to focusing on their specializations, as well as honing their chakra for optimal spiritual energy control, Katō clansmen must take the Hesitant (Element) Special Characteristic without balancing it, and cannot train their Tertiary Element above A-rank.
- The clan focuses on refining the spirit, and thus neglects the body. They have strength and endurance of 1 rank (4 tiers) lower than they normally would, to a minimum of E-rank.
- Clansmen have to meditate to gather nature energy for any Senjutsu they wish to use outside of Sage Mode; some jutsu may require this even in Sage mode as a drawback.

Description: The signature technique of the Katō clan. Using practiced and pinpoint chakra control, they can make their mental and physical energies, and thus their soul and consciousness, materialize and leave their body as a semi-transparent, ghostlike version of themselves, while stabilizing their own, otherwise unconscious body with a small portion of this jutsu's chakra cost. This technique's drawback is also its best asset; the range, while extensive, makes it a danger for the user's soul to wander too far from their own body.- The body cannot be detected by any technique that would search for chakra; techniques that detect via bodily functions such as heat signatures or electrical signals, etc, may find the body, as it is still in a sort of living stasis. The spirit itself has no physical form, but is essentially the source of all chakra in a person, so it may be sensed by chakra sensory techniques.
- Genjutsu do not affect the user's soul as there is no cerebral Keirakukei to manipulate, and do not affect the body as there is no consciousness to manipulate. As a spirit, the user is incorporeal and does not truly exist on the physical plane; thus, they are immune to all types of jutsu that only exist as such. However, this does mean that the spirit is unable to interact with the physical world without the use of a jutsu. For this technique's duration, the body is completely vulnerable to all non-Genjutsu forms of assault; in addition, the consciousness having departed, the body is unable to dodge or block by itself.
- Sealing Jutsu that target and seal or restrain beings are still effective on the ejected spirit, and act at 1 rank higher of effectiveness due to the target of said Sealing Jutsu existing as an ethereal being. A-rank or higher barriers, or jutsu such as the Ninja Art: Four Flames Formation, are able to stop the user from passing through.
- The spirit is not aware of the surroundings of the physical body if it is not in the same area. By the same note, the disembodied spirit has no bearings on the physical vessel's condition, or whether it is under attack. If the ninja's physical body is killed while they are using the Spiritualization Jutsu, they have 2 posts left in the world before they inevitably go to Pure World or Hell. All effects of their jutsu, even those that normally do not end when the user dies/runs out of chakra, will dissipate at this time.
- As users can enter the bodies of other humans as easily as phasing with something else, this technique is perfect for reconnaissance or ambushes (similar to the Silhouette technique); the user can go completely unnoticed by guards and the like, and even chakra sensory would only be able to detect the excess chakra, not that the user is inhabiting the body. The user can communicate with them within their mind (relaying information far quicker than normal means would allow), or even perform jutsu from inside the host body. However, the user is prohibited from using any jutsu that would require manual cooperation from an unwilling or unwitting host; this does not apply if the user has wrested full control of the body. However, the user is able to activate jutsu using hand seals that a host body is weaving already, if they apply.
- Player Characters, NPCs with accounts, or major characters of missions cannot be controlled via possession except with explicit IC or OOC permission from the character/roleplayer. Errant NPCs such as hordes, nondescript ninja, and civilians, however, can be controlled (they are treated with either their own speed and strength or the user's, whichever is higher; they are assumed to have no weapons unless explicitly stated by a mission or otherwise, and if their stats aren't stated the caster's apply).
- If the user's spirit is not supplanting the host's will, it is not anchored to it; thus, the user takes no damage if the host is harmed. (If they are controlling someone using this jutsu, they take the damage -1 rank to their real body, though instant-kill attacks will also instantly kill the user).
- ~If the user's spirit is somehow discovered by an unwitting host, they can expunge the user if they are Strong-Willed and not more than 2 ranks below the user (this takes 1 post). At this point, all active control the user had over any jutsu cast on the host body or while inside it is dispelled.

They then must return to their body immediately, and are forcibly pulled back from whatever they were doing at their maximum travel speed. If the user's body is dealt a fatal blow while their soul is outside their body, after 1 post their soul will ascend and they will die.

Description: Due to being so attuned to the spiritual plane, clan members have the special ability of sensing other human spirits; this is specific to their own self, so the radius of sensing is wherever their soul is. This is distinct from sensing chakra or biological functions, as it is impossible to suppress one's spirit, even by the Katō clan themselves. While it is technically more powerful in this respect, it is also much less versatile than a chakra-sensing technique, as it cannot sense if someone is about to use a jutsu, or other such intricacies. They see spirits as faint hitodama (balls of eerie fire, in legends thought to be 'death candles', the souls of the departed) in their field of vision, while a sort of sixth sense alerts them where other souls are. Faint areas of spiritual energy deposited on areas where a person made contact can also be detected. Clan members seem to have a penchant for remembering the distinct 'color' of each person's hitodama; they are able to detect their own spirit frequency (such as if they need to find their body) at twice the normal distance than they are normally able. However, trying to concentrate on this ability when there are more than 5 people within 15 meters of them, or anywhere with a crowd within 40 meters, gives them a terrible headache (-1 to Perception for duration & 1 post after). If the clan member uses Senjutsu chakra for this technique's normal chakra maintenance cost, or is in Sage Mode while using this technique, its range doubles.
