A shinobi is like a treasure trove on information. Talents, skills, knowledge. A thousand ways to deal with a single situation pumped into a single man or woman. These people are trained since they are kids with a set of dark goals in mind - infiltration, espionage, assassinations. The shadows are a dark place to be, but these people learn to wield it as a weapon. So when a camp full of these treasure troves gather together, forging plans to sabotage the progress of other Villages, sharing information and insight, it is no surprise counter-initiatives occur. A shinobi camp is not fail-proof. Shinobi opponents make for worthy adversaries in a came of intrigue and espionage, after all.

Kirigakure's camp was simple. Not quite as organised as that of Kumogakure, but certainly not bewildered. They held the militaristic discipline of well-trained shinobi in equal measures to the privateer's heart they carried as the born and bred sailors livings in the Land of Waters, even in a dried up environment as the deserts of the Land of Winds. They grey and blue tents of the Forces of Kirigakure looked like a brooding mass in the gold and white of the sands and was thus easy to spot for those interested to take a bite out of the treasures they offered.

The 'Golden Scarabs' was a rag-tag band of greedy people. Missing-nin, former Suna-nin, ronin. They had gathered together to create their own fame and riches. They had predicted the forgotten ruins of Sunagakure's country would draw in those hungry for expansion, and they had been right. The facade of 'offering help' was just an imagery held up for the gullible so the Villages could continue their actual agenda. The Golden Scarabs had been right, and they would now pluck the fruits of their long-term anticipation. Their own agenda wasn't difficult. It mattered not who came here, nor who would win. All they wanted was to infiltrate the camps and gather as much sensitive information as possible - names, ranks, talents, plans for the future, battle strategies. They had come to gather all sorts of information and sell it to rivalling Villages for a healthy amount of ryo.

One by one they had entered Kirigakure's camp as refugees. No weapons, barely any clothes. Just keen perceptions and cunning intellect. Things that couldn't be detected at the gates and would effortlessly be carried inside the camp. These agents had stayed quiet for days, contenting themselves with listening in on stories, eating grub and trying to get some much needed position such as cook or clean-up crew. In doing so, they had picked up a lot of drifting information already. Worthless to many, but valuable for any of Kiri's opponents. However, the surface was not enough. Such information was cheap to sell and easy to procure, the ryo they'd get barely worth to cover their effort. No, the growing greed to find more sensitive information and cash in big was an itch that grew with every passing day..

Haka had guard duty this evening. Wearing her leather battle armour, the dark and light grey of her outfit allowed her to blend in with the grey and blue of the camp and the darker shade of doton walls that formed the edge of the base. The job was considered a bore by many and some would go so far as to say this sort of duty was unfit for a daughter of Sero's, but the spider didn't mind walking on and off the walls slowly. Mostly by her own, it allowed her some time to reflect on her future as a kunoichi of the Village. She had been a chuunin for a while now. Administration had hinted it wouldn't take too long for her to rank up, others had nudged she'd make a fine Hunter-nin or ANBU. She generally cared little for gossips of that kind, but she couldn't deny that joining the Hunter or ANBU factions were an interesting nudge in the direction of what she liked to do as a wolf spider - hunt down prey.

Eyes open, apathy reflected in the red amber colour of her lookers, she watched left and right to see if there was anyone wanting to crawl over the wall. Anyone she could kick back off or web to the ground to have them apprehended. So far there was no one. All she could see was the bustle of the day slowly setting to sink behind the surface and throw the whole camp in darkness. Guard duty just having started, that meant Haka would be around in the first part of the night, meaning the moment when things went bump she'd be one of the shinobi ready to take down intruders. She'd do so gladly, since they would be just like little flies in the eyes of the wolf spider.

Her point-to-point wandering did make her wonder what a Hunter or ANBU truly did behind the screens. Hunting was a simple thing to her but she knew humans had an odd sense of making things far more complicated than was needed. Often, it got so complicated they couldn't handle it by themselves anymore. Such information was kept away from prying spiders as her, however. All she got to hear was a generalised idea of what they did but the intricacies remained unanswered, meaning she would either take a risk or figure it out herself - the latter much preferred. The spider-nin just needed to figure out how she could catch a Hunter-nin or ANBU and pry loose the information.

Maigo reached down into the room, pulling a scroll apart and looking at it's contents through his mask. The scroll had a lot of inscriptions and notes, commentary on the village ninja and their operations here in Suna. The information contained within the scroll were more hand scribbled notes than anything and nothing truly dangerous but among the mess of the dark room he stood in, there wasn't any doubt that more incriminating and dangerous secrets could be lost.

Maigo would stand up to his full form, the grey cloak covering his body and his hood down, revealing his dark hair flowing from his head but his face covered by the white and red mask of the hunter ninja. He was new to the organization but he carried himself clearly as if he belonged there and didn't let anything change the standard for which he would carry himself. Poised, understanding, and prioritized on the task at hand. It was alarming, that the information on their operation within the Land of Wind could be compromised by some random informant but he had to act without compromise.

Letting his honey colored eyes scope further out the room to further uncover the story, various items strewn about and a chair knocked over. Definite signs of struggle but nothing was broken or damaged, there was no blood around or anything to give away the cause of the situation. Instead, it was as if it were all thrown around by whoever was in there, searching for and collecting items maybe? The pile of clothing left from the dresser and strewn out showed that it's owner might have been leaving hurriedly and collecting what he could carry. Maigo recreated various images in his mind until he came across a notebook that sat on top of the dresser, alone in its position and tilted so it wouldn't sir parallel within the building.

Maigo's hand would reach for the book and measure its weight in his hand while observing the seal on the front of the black leather. A golden scarab etched into the front of it, Maigo's hand feeling along its surface and tracing its logo for a brief moment. As he pulled open the cover and began to flip through the first few pages, his eyes would widen as the light flashed from the inscription on the book.

It didn't matter, Maigo would close the book and toss it in front of him as he turned his body and dove through the window exit into the alley below. Using his arms to shield his face and break through the glass as he rolled head first, feeling the flames of the explosion covering his legs and his back as it almost propelled him forward. His forearms broke his fall to the ground as he rolled forward and slide across his legs into the street below. Glass and shrapnel rained down below with flicks of paper and other debris while smoke and fire pillowed up into the air. Maigo coughed briefly and stood up a bit hesitatingly as he looked up at the third floor housing unit as others began to approach from the street and nearby tents as the town that they had set up their camp in slowly rose to life at the sound of the explosion.

Maigo knew what he had to do though, he knew where he was headed and who he had to capture, the man he'd followed and studied for the last few days. Maigo's eyes flickered around and as a women stepped forward to feel out whether he was alright or not and help him out. Maigo flickered away and jumped to the opposite rooftop as he dashed towards the towns walling, knowing he could find some new information there, he would start by finding out if anyone had come or gone recently, his stealth was intact as he would approach the wall.

His footsteps would be absolutely silent and the trace of his physical presence would be gone with it as he would land on the walling just a few feet behind a girl with a familiar face. Though, whether she would recognize Maigo would be hard to tell with his mask on and his voice changed slightly, given a different tone and more methodical pacing, he would speak up to break her attention.

"I'm looking for a man leaving the encampment." he would begin to grab her attention while his yellow eyes focused on her actions. His cloak was singed at the bottom and a bit dirty, torn even unlike it normally was, as a result of the explosion and how little time he had to waste. "He would be packed as if he was leaving and has brown hair, it's important to catch him." Maigo would leave off and wait for her reply while his eyes would wander to the dunes beyond the town, looking for any details that might lead him to his next clue and the next lead.

Haka turned around when she heard an explosion in the distance, the camp instantly brought in alert. Flames licked the air around it and a puff of black smoke distorted the general clarity of the evening sky. Just briefly, as fire and smoke subdued almost as soon as it had come up. Though it was too far to perceive minute details of what had transpired, the short duration of the fire indicated an amplification by chakra, meaning someone had infiltrated to attempt a coup or traces had to be erased in a hard way. The answers would have to be discovered by other shinobi off duty. The crowd around was partially in panic, others gathering to watch the situation as if it was a touristic attraction. A shimmer suddenly removed a single person from the crowd - Body Flicker Technique - while a few others pushed their way through the crowd. Away from the explosion.

Her gaze shifting between the suspicious movements, Haka tried her best to keep track of them as good as possible just in case one of them was a potential culprit. The first one embraced his family, a woman urging herself to safety to assure herself and family that she was alright. Shocked, but unscathed. The second one stumbled into the mess hall, possibly looking to find a drink to drown his fear with alcohol but Haka couldn't be certain as the roof of the mess hall would cover his actions from her sight. Then lastly, one man moved into a couple of less crowded streets, rummaged into something hidden from sight. He changed clothes, shape, and moved on with a different attitude. Henge no jutsu? It was hard to say as she had not been given a clear shot on his actions and the distance between Haka and the possible culprit was too far for minute details, but there certainly was something fishy about that one.

Haka eyed the gates. She stood in the middle of the two and had no confirmation as to which one he'd take to move out. Running to one gate left the other open, and she couldn't run in to meet him directly as she was on guard duty. She'd have to abide her time, observe, wait. Something the wolf spider was an ace at. But the situation would change, offering new opportunities to the spider-nin.

"I'm looking for a man leaving the encampment."

The voice had come as unexpected as the explosion as he had left no sound and hadn't come into view. To be confronted with someone that had efficiently escaped her arachnid perceptions annoyed her, but she would turn around to face the man that stood behind her. Her red amber eyes would analyse him. Yellow eyes, Hunter mask, unfamiliar voice. His clothes were hidden from sight, only a part of his trousers and shoes remaining visible, but nothing that stood out, and a singed cape that reeked of burned. This man had experienced the explosion first hand, yet she shook her head at his statement on the brown hair.

"I've spotted one suspicious person fitting that description before he disguised himself.", her eyes moved back to scan the streets. She knew how he looked like now, but he had been clever about his disguise. Average features, common clothes, he looked like your average Joe now. It took her a while to find him back in the crowd, spotting his movement towards the east gate. "Cleverly disguised, possible Henge no Jutsu, moving towards the east gate. I'll bring you."

That was the most information she could give since she disliked assumptions. Describing his disguise would be like describing half of the people that walked around the streets - vague and lacking sufficient detail for a reliable description. There was no telling what tricks he had up his sleeve or how strong he was, but he knew how to make use of chakra and that made him already sufficiently a threat. Expecting the Hunter-nin to follow her, Haka would move to the man in question, jumping over the tents and roofs as she did so to maintain a bird's point of view, all the while keeping a low profile as good as she possibly could without stealth techniques. Though moving through the streets would have allowed for a more subtle approach, it would be impossible to keep track of his movements. Haka didn't want to risk losing him.

Landing on a roof that looked out in the streets where he was walking, her monstrous aura would instantly give away her presence as he moved through it. He looked up, his blue eyes looking straight into her red eyes. A single glimpse telling everything. He knew he was spotted, she knew she had been correct in her analysis. This was the fugitive the Hunter was looking for. Instantly after, she molded chakra into her mouth and spit out a web in an attempt to catch him and get him stuck where he stood but he simply ripped through the webbing revealing that his strength was clearly above that of an average person. With his disguise having failed him, he would give up on the Henge no jutsu and quickly looked around to see if he could spot any other forces trying to apprehend him as he calculated the next step towards a successful escape.

One person? Maigo's mind would wander over to the almost certainty that the suspicious person would be the one he was hunting for, his stature unmoving though as he listened in. His eyes followed along with hers as she turned back to the street, seemingly a child on guard duty but far more laconic than he might have expected. The little description that she gave was enough for Maigo and with the offer to lead him there, Maigo's head would tilt down to nod and offer a silent affirmation that he would follow suit.

Maigo would follow not far behind Haka while his eyes scanned mercilessly back and forth between the people and various passing objects. His mind ran blank for a moment, seemingly singularly fixated on the task before him, the elimination and interrogation of his target. Nothing else mattered to him right now, nothing in the nearby future could distract him from figuring out where he would go from there. And yet, Maigo needed to guarantee the certainty of success, whether or not Haka would notice those eyes of his spin into life and the three black tomoe swirl into life amongst the sea of red wouldn't matter. His eyes would be like staring daggers and chills through the air in the direction that he looked, emanating with ferocity and energy like they always did.

It wasn't long though that they approached their target, a slight delay or hesitation as Haka met his eyes with her own. Maigo wouldn't waste time though, coming down from his landing he would flicker away as quickly as he had arrived in the midst of Haka's jutsu. Dashing off to the right and covering himself behind a nearby tent he immediately went to work flanking the man from the shadows. His sharingan perceived everything and watched as the guard began to spit out a web like a net to cover and try to capture the man. Though, he wouldn't be so easily contained as he quickly weaved together a series of his own signs and began to mold chakra within his chest as it expanded.

His hands held the tiger seal and out from his mouth spewed a sphere of great flames that began to encompass like a beacon in the night sky to try and burn away the incoming attack and buy himself a few seconds of safety. But the killing intent would linger in the air between his own jutsu and Haka's aura that would make the quick exchange like a flicker at best. Maigo would have dashed behind the man in the series of jutsu they exchanged, his eyes ever watching the chakra signature ahead of him now before he would bring a flurry of raiton chakra to his palm.

The point of chakra would erupt into a fury and as the man looked around, his true form revealed to the world, he would be met with the silent burst of chakra and the sounds of chirping birds filling the air as Maigo would steathfully close in from behind him and blast the Chidori at an angle from his backpack, aimed directly for his heart. The blood would splatter out and his body to contort, almost subconsciously trying to escape from it with widened eyes he would feel his own life slowly start to slip from him. The killing intent would stop leaking from Maigo as he ended his stealth jutsu and let the tomoe in his eyes spin slowly as he began to turn towards the man's head, a single phrase coming from the Hunter nin's lips as he would lower him towards the ground and lock into eye contact with him.

"I want to know it all."

He would feel his slowing heart skip a beat and everything that Maigo wanted to know would begin to spill out before him as he removed the backpack from the man and he slowly lowered into the dirt on his back before Maigo who would stay kneeling over him. For a moment, Maigo would linger over him and draw out the essence of everything that he had, who had met with and whom he was working for along with every detail of everything. It would take a minute and Maigo would seemed paused there and unflinching in silence as he burned through memory after memory of this man, his life story almost unfolded before him.

When it was all said and done, Maigo would turn up towards Haka if she would have jumped down or continued on, bringing his right hand up to his mask and pulling it away, he would reveal his face to her and offer a quick, "Thanks." before sliding the mask backwards to his pouch and turning back to the body while standing up. Thinking carefully of how he should dispose of the body before him, rather, should he destroy it immediately or take it to the intelligence division to work on. His gaze would then fall on the backpack next to the man, knowing that it would contain everything that he was trying to steal and scrolls of information. Really, that pack would be the greater problem in front of him.

It would take long or much for the Hunter to deal with the man. The katon he had used as a counter-measure to Haka's web seemed to burn up in the air as the hostile chakra of the Hunter lingered around. Then, everything moved like a blur in front of Haka's eyes. One moment, there was the fire, then the other moment blood splattered, the imagery of raiton and chirping birds catching up only later like a forgotten memory welling up to surface in her mind. Haka would blink, not sure exactly what had happened as she could only assume the Hunter had moved at a speed far beyond her perceptive abilities to track him, aided by his camouflage. Tilting her head as she collected all of this new information, considering whatever the Hunter had done or used to be an interesting sort of stealth for her own hunting needs, the three tomoe burned within the bright red eyes of the sharingan would be about the most eye-catching thing at this point (pun intended).

Dojutsu.

A rare sight, indeed, and for her the first time ever laying eyes on an ability like that. They would spin, fixated on the man. His stare sharp as knives, stabbing into the mind of the saboteur. A couple of seconds they'd stand like there, a twisted sort of relation between two men being played out before her sight. Whatever those few seconds of eye staring would reveal to the Hunter was beyond Haka's knowledge, but Maigo eventually let go off the man. Haka would jump down, no more danger to be seen in the area. Much like Maigo, she wondered what was to be done with this man. She could devour him if she was hungry, but with a Hunter meddling in the affairs chances were slim a guard held the rights to decide on what to do. Her red eyes would shift to look at Maigo and wait to hear what he wanted to do with the infiltrator. Instead, he removed his mask, revealing his identity as he thanked her. Haka would nod briefly in silent acknowledgement, gaze shifting to the unconscious man.

"What will you do with him?"

She was still on duty, knowing she'd have to return to her position eventually, but since she'd have to file a report as to why she had left her position, prying lose every bit of information as to what he was up to could only add weight to the excuse of her leave. That, and the unmentioned question about the intricacies of his killing intent turned tangible, his techniques and what the ANBU and Hunters truly were burning on her tongue. If these Kirigakure divisions were anything akin to what was being told, the spider-nin would find it highly interesting to slip among the ranks of the Hunters. Perhaps not so much out of loyalty for Kirigakure but as the stealth specialist of the Ahoban, expanding her abilities in that direction would only be an asset to her own shinobi repertoire.

"What will you do with him?"

The words broke Maigo's concentration on the task before him, letting his sharingan flicker from the body and bag at the ground in front of him to looking at the girl who was guarding the gate. It was poor of him to let his guard drop and not pay much attention as she had approached and waited near him but Maigo snapped out of his trance and internally shook himself back awake.

"Ah, this." he would say before leaning back a bit and weaving together a series of handsigns in front of him. With a slow hand, Maigo would reach down to the body in front of him and place two fingers into his chest as it would hiss for a moment and then start to deteriorate in front of them. The ANBU's body elimination technique was potent, the chakra would work itself from the point of contact and burn outwards across the body, burning it away in a slow roll as Maigo took his hand away and stepped back. Leaving just a moment for the bodies disappearance from the area to finalize before not a trace of him would be left and Maigo would reach for the bag with his left hand.

Looking towards Haka he would speak up, "This I'll take with me to turn into intelligence. You should probably head back to your post though." he would let his sharingan fade away and the tomoe and redness spin out of sight before his honey colored eyes would take their place. Slinging the backpack over his left shoulder, he would reach with his right hand towards his pouch and pull his mask out again.

"I'll include in my report and when I turn this in that you were helping me, it shouldn't be a big deal or anything." Maigo would kind of blink, almost feeling like he was missing something in this situation. Maybe it was an etiquette thing or an explanation? There really wasn't much that he could share of the situation though, instead he would kind of wander around mentally while bringing the mask up to his face and holding it there before setting it into place properly. In that short time, nothing came to mind so instead he would let his attention roll back towards her and ask plainly, "You're alright, right?"

He would say a bit unassured and hesitantly while waiting for whatever reply, leaving the bit of awkwardness to float in the air between the two for a moment while he waited for a reply.

Her question seemed to have broken the concentration Maigo needed to perform his duties but he'd calmly show her what he was about to do. He'd form a series of hand seals and touch the body of the man they had caught, unravelling his presence and very existence from the surface as the chakra devoured the body to such a point nothing would remain - not even ash. An interesting technique worth learning for an assassin such as herself. Eliminating every trace of her targets without needing to devour them as the spider she was would provide her stomach with an alternative and mostly less upsetting means to get the job done. A spider's stomach could only devour so much.

With apathetic eyes the spider would watch how the body would vanish from sight. Maigo would then pick up the bag the man had been carrying for intelligence, explaining he'd write everything in his report and suggesting she'd return to her duties. She'd nod. Returning to her station was not a bad idea, overseeing a section of the base fitting the patient wolf spider just fine despite the odd necessity of having to watch over the human species like a good shepherd. Unnatural in her eyes and philosophies, yet a good use of her abilities as an arachnid.

Perhaps her apathy, a trait similar to his own and that of Sero, was misunderstood for shell shock but Maigo asked her if she was alright. She'd nod again in answer. Death was hardly something that fazed her. Neither was the destruction or disappearance of a body. Such things tended to happen in the natural course of action, or when one ended as prey for the hunting spiders. It struck her as odd that he'd show concern for someone he hardly knew, but then again the lingering discomfort of what humans would call 'an uncomfortable silence' was slowly making its introduction. Meaning, there was an expectation towards conversation.

"Is this what Hunter-nin do? Take down a target, make his body disappear and report?", her cold, soft voice would ask. Theoretically, the spider knew this was more of an ANBU task whereas Hunters chased down the missing-nin. She had asked the question to break the discomforting silence, since that would be a humane thing to do. That wasn't to say she wasn't curious but to the spider no silence would ever bring discomfort. She was a spider. Quietude, lack of motion, patient observations. Such things were natural. Haka would thus use those natural traits as she waited Maigo's reply concerning the Hunter-nin, asking him a second question once he had finished explaining the first one. "How does one become a Hunter-nin?"

Silence grew between them for a moment as Maigo hardly knew how to handle the situation in front of him but instead, it was broken by a question she posed. If this is what the Hunter Ninja do? It was such an odd question and yet, it had such an abstract answer. In a literal sense, he imagined that she knew exactly what it was the Hunter Ninja of her village did, aimed to do, and excelled at doing and at the same time it could also be a thought provoking question all the same. Maigo would shift a bit in his stance while looking at her plainly, an exhale filling the air as his pondering would take over his expression.

"Sort of, it's our job to literally hunt down and eliminate threats to our nation, sure. But we've been known to work for others and to take down the criminals and threats that plague the world." His eyes would trace over her and her expression briefly, curious to see if his answer would have gotten anywhere near what she was looking for in an answer or if her question was more genuine.

"It's always a bit more complicated than that but you've got the jist of it." Maigo's shoulders and tone would relax a bit, his eyes still following hers as he continued on. "Though, we don't always eliminate our targets in the way I did or have to go report it in to some higher up in the village. Sometimes, you live and work in the shadows and hope that your job just makes the world a little bit better of a place at the end. A little bit brighter, I guess..." Maigo would finish off by tilting his head towards a shoulder and stretching it out, almost as a reflex to answering the question and distracting his body from only standing there awkwardly.

Her second question was a much easier one to answer though. Whether or not he figured out Haka's motives and understandings for her first question, he would light up a bit and inhale before coming out with it, "Ah, same as pretty much any position or job in the village. You train for it." Maigo would smirk lightly at his comment, wondering if he could detract from the situation any further than he had already, or if he would buy himself a bit more ground in the conversation at hand.

"Of course there's a requirement about completing missions and being prepared for the missions you'd take afterwards, but it's the latter that gives the most trouble." His eyes would trace as he would turn his shoulder a bit, a questionative look pulling over his face as he looked towards the girl, almost squinting towards her.

"Why? Are you gonna become a Hunter Ninja too?" Maigo would leave off in the air between them as he felt he almost knew the response to that question before she would give it. But maybe he could learn why and offer some real advice, or find out if she were someone he should stick to avoiding as well, in the case of keeping his life intact.

Maigo's reply answered the question much in the way she had expected - a confirmation. Hunting down targets, assassinating them. Sometimes reports were needed, sometimes information would be gathered. The only unexpected element in the whole explanation being the part that Hunter-nin were sometimes called upon by others than the Village itself. It opened options, perspectives, but Haka wondered if she would be interested in travelling to other areas just to hunt a target down. Her affiliations to human politics were thin to non-existent, the only reason why she was dubbed a Kiri-nin simply being the fact that her Creator was the right-hand of Kirigakure's leadership. Other than that, the spider-nin cared little for the emblem on the hitae-ate she carried around. She was not interested in improving upon Kirigakure's reputation or its power. Her loyalties laid with herself and Sero directly, the rest was none of her concerns. By those bounds, she'd consider hunting for a Village as a necessary evil where she could improve upon her natural abilities.

That left his question to deal with. ANBU were sworn to certain secrecy and subtlety. Would she do good to confirm she was about to join the Hunter-nin? Was this an analysis to see if she was cut out for it? Approved by the senior? Or was this just a test to see if she grasped even the basics of their existence? These answers actually mattered little to a spider who cared only for the right of dominance. Domination being a revelation of raw strength and presence. But if the revelation of her answer pushed him towards slaying her, she'd have to prove herself by surviving. Subtlety was only of use as a tool to get somewhere, not as a sign of power itself.

"Yes.", she'd reply in confirmation to his question. "Hunting people is fun."

Her reason would be fuelled by the arachnid's basic need for hunting prey. And the eradication of a species that had ceased evolving since a long time. The general apathetic demeanour of the spider-nin of Osada Island portrayed throughout the day received, thanks to the topic currently at hand, contextually an eerie undertone. Her answer revealed a reason that came closer to the truth than most could possibly imagine, the cold, quiet tone of her voice and her stoic expression unable to make her reply even more ominous than it already was.

Maigo had shifted between a certain discomfort and self-assured comfort a few times, making it hard for her to read what exactly had or had not unsettled him. Haka would not move from her position, eyes lingering on the figure that was Maigo to gauge his reaction to her statement. Chances were slim he'd slay her considering both belonged to the same Village, but his body language could still reveal a desire to do so at a later time. Underestimating him now, or later, was not something she'd allow herself to do.

The short pause left from his own confirmation was met with another confirmation from her. Maigo's eyes focused in for a moment as the rather laconic girl continued on to describe hunting people as 'fun'. A small chill crawled up his spine as the words left her lips and the insinuation that came along with it began to shimmy its way up to his mind. The aura of the spider finally crept into Maigo's mindset, having been around it so often and mostly ignoring the weaker image of Sero himself. But it wasn't just weaker, it was only smaller, still growing in this child and as Haka would grow, perhaps her own lust and abyss of chakra would grow to surpass himself and Sero outright.

With a deep breath, Maigo would blink for a moment, keeping himself resolved as the air passed over, knowing immediately that she would fit in with the ranks of Hunter ninja where Maigo himself definitely didn't. A ferocious and serious group that prided themselves on their work and stared blankly into the depths of fear as they dash forward for their work. Maigo's own person shifted a bit as he nodded and let his eyes trace over her, to see if she were just testing him or if there was a genuine monster lurking over the surface.

"I wouldn't call it fun... death isn't a fun thing." Maigo would let off with a rather serious expression, feeling the weight in his chest for a brief moment. Not knowing how to really handle the situation in front of them as he began to shift the backpack over his shoulder and holding his arm back with it. He wondered if any of his words would have any actual impact or if he would just be wasting his breath saying anything. She was a comrade of his village, and the monsters he'd worked with before had said far more chilling and dangerous things to spread their ideology out of it.

Turning his head away after the brief pause between them he would shift back to Haka waiting near him, on guard but feeling her aura seeping out now that he had noticed it. "It doesn't matter though, most people don't enjoy hunting and killing other people." his eyes would shift towards her. "Anyways, you have a gate to watch and I have a report to file unless you have any more questions?" Maigo would hold steady, trying to keep a more serious presence about him as he waited for her final answer before he could take his own leave.

Maigo was unsettled by her notion that hunting was fun, retorting that there was nothing fun about the death. She felt like he had missed the idea behind her sentence as she was not one to express fondness or disdain for death itself. To her, since death was something she had never experienced it was a difficult thing to judge, whereas bringing death was just a necessity either driven by hunger or by the missions she was requested to do. No, she took a neutral stance on the act of killing itself. The weak tended to die, prey ended up eaten. Simple.

It was more the interest in the hunt itself. The thrill of chasing said prey attracted her, and by extend of that nature, the thrill of fighting someone was equally attractive. Whether they would live or die in the procedure was directly related to whether she was either hungry or on a mission. Or related to their own ineptitude for survival. In any other situation, chances were slim she would kill to claim her victory. Her defeated opponent was free to walk, or to survive in the case their wounds proved too much for them to walk away. Domination was not a matter of eradication but one of acknowledgement. If a sincere declaration of superiority was stated, the course of their lives were of little matter to her.

Then again, 'most people'... didn't account for spiders in disguise, right?

"I'll remember that.", she'd reply to his statements on death and hunting, which were a confirmation of previously made analysis by the spider as she observed human society to gain a deeper understanding. He was not wrong, since only a select few humans revelled in bringing death onto others. Even among shinobi, those who could kill were generally not thrilled by it. And for once, that fact would not be considered a weakness in the eyes of the spider, for the animal considered hunting pointless without proper purpose.

Maigo would repeat he had a report to file while she had a gate to watch out for, yet request if she had any other questions. Since he hadn't shown any signs of disapproving her admittance to the Hunter-nin when he could state so, she considered it a quiet acceptance from his part and thus had little other questions to ask. She would shake her head to his question.

"Perhaps we can hunt together again another time but let us continue our duties for now"

Haka offered him a faint smile as the beginning of a mist slowly blurred her appearance before a flicker would completely remove her presence from the immediate surroundings, and with it remove the monstrous aura as well. The continuation of a boring guard duty awaiting her with open arms.

Maigo waited patiently and seemingly on edge underneath the surface as he awaited a reply from her. Wondering what it was that she was thinking about or what came to mind in the instant that his questioning was over as she would mull over his words internally. In the end, she gave him a simple reassurance that she would remember that. It was almost disheartening to hear in the back of his mind, a small nod and internal sigh would be offered in return as he wondered on those words. Wondered whether they were a genuine admittance that he spoke some truth or if it was simply a way to brush him off and shake off his own ideology while remaining under the radar.

If anything were absolutely clear between the two of them, it might be that Maigo takes the subject of death perhaps a bit too literally and without any real compassion for competing ideologies. Perhaps Haka would notice that of him or feel it out, or maybe she wouldn't care enough to think about the reasons that he did what he did. He was after all a jounin of Kiri. Most jounin of most villages acted full of themselves and treated their experiences as absolute truth. Maybe a fault of his but he paid it no mind as they continued on and he reiterated the positions they had and his final question for her.

She finished off with a small hope that perhaps they could hunt together again but should continue on. Knowing she would be bound for the Hunter ninja almost made the thought humorous that she would remain to call this short adventure a hunt. Maybe it was a bit of irony or perhaps she was affirming that his latter thought was the truth. That Maigo's truth was lost on her. It didn't matter though, as when Maigo's eyes keyed in with a nod in return, she quickly flickered away and disappeared from the scene in front of him. Maigo sighed a bit and shook his head once the scene was clear of all but himself.

"I have a feeling that we will be hunting again someday..." he would speak softly towards himself as he bounced his shoulder to pull the backpack higher up on his shoulder and turned his attention away from the direction that she had gone off in. His attention was not on the wall or its guards but instead to the deep insides of the camp where his superiors and the village higher-ups would be waiting for him. For an explanation of the explosion, an explanation of where he went, and the results he brought with him in the pack slung over his shoulder.

Maigo would jump up from the scene he had left, leaving nothing but a silent trace as the ground shifted as his feet left and quickly dispersed back to calmness. Dashing up to the rooftops he began to feel his fatigue again. With quite the chaotic night and his cloak still burned, he definitely felt the need to take a long rest, maybe relax a bit and sunbathe in the desert. His mission was done, after all, he could finally take some time off and act the way he wanted, relax the way he wanted, and finally become the apathy he embodied.
