The Sunagakure Reclamation Effort would come to forever be known as one of the greatest failures of modern history in the ninja world. While the ties that bound the once formidable Ninja Alliance together three-hundred years ago had been frayed beyond recognition, there had been no great hardship revealed to shine light on just how distant the Great Nations were in their visions. Kumogakure’s efforts for conquest and attempting to impose order in the vacancy created by the collapse of the Sunagakure elite found themselves blocked by their rivals they had once considered allies. Meanwhile, Konoha’s attempts at relief efforts were often squandered soon-after, either by unknowingly feeding resources to Rebel fronts or having the refugees under their care exported by other parties with resources in tow. All the while Rogue elements seemed only to grow exponentially in the nation with the aid of their lieutenants, proving to be a match for the individual combined elements of the vaguely allied ninja force.

The recruitment drive led by Oboro Gasuna swelled the ranks and even converted many a former ninja belonging to Sunagakure, forming a new renegade unit calling themselves the ‘Red Sands’ after previously famous Suna ninja, including the recruitment of Tente as the rebels began to generate a vastly stronger united front. While Kite, a spymaster, managed to successfully infiltrate the border-camps of the Four Great Nations, siphoning information that would lead to enemy forces being able to exploit them with far less consequence. Meanwhile, the Executioner has carved a bloody path through the sands within the ruins of the former Hidden Village; the fear he has generated warding off many would-be attackers has created a ‘safe haven’ of sorts as his legend continues to expand and sap the morale of any who would seek to overthrow him.

All factors accumulating into a united front; ‘The Battle of Inabayama’ where rebel forces attacked a Kirigakure border-camps, with enough tenacity to threaten a major power and sparking the beginning of war in the Nation of Sands. Devolving into a battlefield, the Great Nations, largely divided as they struggle for supremacy, unable to focus or unwilling to do so… they risk being forced from Sunagakure.

PART 2

Welcome to What Lies Beneath, part 2. The second phase of the event reflects the choices made and missions completed by shinobi during the event thus far, and brings with it changing scenarios and a new battlefield, as well as new missions and bounties to complete. Part 1 missions will remain available to start until 2359 EST on Friday the 20th of July, 2018, after which, only part 2 missions will be available.
