So it turned out that there were now free matches to be had between anyone that wanted a piece of someone else. He had his eye on a couple of them but his interest was in one in particular. The woman being celebrated as the Iron Spider. Her fights coming across as her being invincible had caught his attention as well. It was almost like no one could really touch her. However her fights seemed so direct. As if the ideal combat of the modern age was direct conflict. To approach a target so heavily defended directly just wasn't his style. Still this was a slight chance for Iwa to shine and for him to prove his words. The words stating he hadn't competed because it wouldn't be fair to the others. He could feel his own strength and knew one thing. He was ready to take on this Iron spider. A wall of defense between him and her that she was all to comfortable with. He would rely on that. If she thought her steel skin would hold him at bay she was in for a surprise. Just so long as his plans worked. He had some side idea's to toy with her as well as he could as well.

So he had signed up for a spar with her with the event coordinators and requested her acceptance of his challenge. Shifting away while the invitation was sent to await her response. Assuming she accepted he would be ready to meet with her in the valley arena. If not he would move on with his day. Simply put she was being challenged by a genin from Iwa by the title and name of Corporal Heishi Kejido. He wasn't like these children though that randomly tossed out lightning and fire and hoped for the best. He wanted this arena for a reason. He would wrap himself up in dull clothes. A long sleeved turtle neck with a pair of grey shinobi pants. Padded shoes on his feet and black gloves on his hands. Around his right forearm under his shirt he would wrap a scroll containing his E rank items hidden under his sleeve. His belt would become home to a tonfa on either hip with a giant shuriken on his back. His headband he wrapped around his forehead and his turtle neck he pulled over his nose. Only his silver eyes and dark hair could be seen of his skin. He was ready for this.

He arrived first into the valley only to casually walk into the thick mist residing there. The shadows of the cliff sides to either side filling the area with a small chill. He wondered if she would feel that in her puppet. The cold and mist. Visibility was low but just to be safe he didn't stay in the center of the arena. Instead he shifted to the wall to his right. Watching his steps to keep from touching any loose rocks. His silhouette designed to blend in with the walls shadows. He was watching for her but not really expecting to see her so much as hear her. This was a stone arena. Metal would be easily heard moving along it. He wanted to get close to her. Within a single meter if he could manage it. Still just in case she came in puppet blazing he shifted the giant shuriken off his back and held it in his left hand by the center. Ready to counter as needed while focusing a minute amount of chakra into it. Preparing a substitution right off the bat. Straining his ears as he listened for the sound that must be coming.

Nova's first two matches had gone exceedingly well for her, each one lasting only seconds before its start and finish. She had dispatched her opponents in the same way, each one trapped by her razor web. Though she knew many were watching her, it still surprised her that she received a challenge in an exhibition match. Kejido Heishi was the one to challenge her. He was from Iwa, but in Kumo to watch the exams. Nova wondered absently why he didn't enter the exams, and how much of her own fights he had seen. She knew nothing about this person, though they may know about her, even if all that she revealed in those fights was her razor web. She accepted without hesitation, though pondered on whether she had made a mistake by competing in a fight that she did not have to while still a participant in the exams.

Her decision however had already been made, and the proctor informed her of the arena as he escorted her to it at a brisk pace. It was one that she was already very familiar with; the valley of the clouds. She smiled weakly at the news, that was the location of her first victory, though the arena had been random. Her opponent had chosen this arena out of the other options which worried her, there was something about the arena that would give him an advantage in his mind. Contemplating the type of shinobi she might be facing, she was lost in thought when the pair arrived at the gate that she had stood behind once before. The proctor left as the match approached, signaled only by the falling of the gate. Kurogokegamu would skitter through the arch, Nova performing the tasks she did at the beginning of nearly every fight. Sliding down into the puppet she first shut the top, sealing it tight and latching the several mechanisms to hold it there. After ajusting the straps to hold her in place she slid one hand down to the ammo and pressed her finger to one of the balls there, storing chakra in it in the even she would have to substitute. Through the fingers that controlled her arachnoid puppet, she channeled chakra and replaced her perspective with its, though her ears would fall deaf to the world.

This fight she would not rush in, someone who would challenge her rather than be faced against her in the tournament made her wary of their plans. Instead she would circle around the left side of the canyon slowly, though the puppet would still clatter against the ground it would not be as loud as if she were sprinting across as she did before. She could only see 15 meters in front of her at best, only shadows in the heavy fog. Though she felt blinded by the clouds again, she was more confident this time, now with a battle or two under her belt. The puppet skittered forward to what she assumed was the halfway mark of this arena, and veered 30 meters to her left, fingers with the threads at the ready for the next command and her other hand palming at one of the pieces of ammunition she had ready to fire. Though she saw no one in the fog, she stayed alert and scanned the area in front of her, ready to fire should she see something come towards her.

Kejido would wait and listen. His back pressed against the cold stone wall to hide his form from standing out in this mist. His ears twitching at every little sound. He was waiting and controlling his breathing to be shallow and quiet. His heartbeat slow and methodical. It wouldn't be long before he could hear it. The gate at the far end slamming down. His challenge had been accepted and the match had begun. His silver eyes shifted through the mist in the direction of the gate. Carefully he summoned forth a kunai into his open right hand with a subtle puff of smoke before she got close enough to see it disturb the mist around him or hear it. He waited still just in case. If she had a form of sensory this would be difficult. Well, more so than he had initially intended. He surveyed the area within his limited vision. The valley was anything but smooth. Boulders here and there scattered in the mist. Easy enough to progress unseen if he was careful. That was what this fight was about after all. He couldn't even see the far wall. Such a massive space would be to her advantage at first with that razor net.

Still he could hear something in the distance. Even had she been trying to move quietly metal on stone was not a subtle noise. She was a different kind of puppeteer than he had come to expect. Most struck from a position of stealth with traps. However she was blatant in her movements. Placing herself into the puppet itself like a shield. It virtually marked her position to him. Though at the distance it was only a general direction. The valley let it echo distantly. Still it was loud enough that there was enough distance between them for him to move. She was nearing the center it seemed. So he would carefully place his footing and edge along the wall. Moving from flat and solid surface to flat and solid surface. Keeping track of the ground around them. The boulders didn't seem to lessen much until one got closer to the center. Even then they were scattered about five meters apart. Five meters was a lot of ground to cover in combat but he was confident he could do it. Still he could hear it from the opposing wall from him. It was coming closer. If he didn't move from the wall now she would be upon him rather quickly. In just a few more seconds.

So quickly he shifted and darted down his own side of the canyon. Not at full speed to still avoid any loose rocks. Perhaps at half speed. Only making it twenty meters in the time it took her to do thirty. She was much closer now and the clicks of metal on rock were more defined. Fifty meters closed in a few seconds. Just from them approaching each other. Still he would drop down low to avoid detection even at the distance they still were from each other. The echo of the canyon was throwing off his exact measurements so he couldn't tell they were now 160 meters apart. Still plenty of time to position himself. Instead he would stop at twenty meters and place his back against one of the boulders with her on the other side. Approaching as she was she likely had no idea where he was. Without revealing himself too early he needed to close that distance when she did arrive. He had a plan for that though. That Razor wire was still a threat all the same. Instead he would listen and remain hidden. Opportunity presented itself to the patient and the calm. Besides while her position was always so readily given away she had no way of knowing his. Hopefully that would press on her mind.

For a moment everything seemed to die down and grow quiet. It was almost unsettling. Had she discovered she was being tracked by sound? Was there something she was capable of doing about it. Quietly he took a deep breath to steady himself. A single soldier against a tank as it were. He had to remain calm. If she was remaining silent through some technique she had overcome her greatest weakness and his strength in this setting. Carefully he took his kunai and stuck it out from the side of the rock. He could only see about five meters in the reflection but there wasn't any movement. With a sigh he would shift up from the rock and peek over the top. His vision exceeding ten meters now. Not well but for silhouettes all the same. Nothing stirred in the mist. He resigned to the idea that she might have just stopped moving for a time. Still he would drop back down behind the rock once more. She likely didn't know of his position yet. He was safe for the time being. The chances of something that heavy and large coming across his without a sound as a genin was out of the ideal range for any genin. He had to let go of his paranoia.

Still he would consider one other thing. What little he had seen of her matches he knew that she herself wasn't vulnerable. She had to be seeing somehow. Likely some sort of puppet technique. That puppet had some eyes on its upper front. Perhaps she was actually using those for more than decoration. He would need to test out her vision after all. While all was quiet he would idly use the scroll to pull out a flash bomb and a smoke grenades. Tucking the smoke grenade onto his belt while the flash bomb was tied to the back of the kunai. He would consider this useless usually but he needed to poke and prod at the enemy and find a weakness. His silver eyes studied the kunai for a moment before listening once more. If she was out there she was taking her time. An odd thing to do since as her specialty was in play it was just another chakra dump. How long could she keep this up without running out of chakra? He just needed to let her get confident and then get tired. If he were to simply bide his time this would all work out well for him in the end.

Nova had no clue how to locate her opponent in the heavy mist, Kurogokegamu stood still for a moment. Contemplating what options she had, she knew this fight would be a more difficult one than her first fight in the mist. Nova separated one of the chakra threads from her puppet, though she maintained a perfect control of its movements, and bound it to one of the pieces of ammunition her puppet held. Sliding the ammunition through the web cannon, the ball would be suspended in the air by a single emerald thread. The thread extended in front of her further than she could see, dangling the ball a meter in the air, 30 meters in front of the puppet. She would probe the area in front of her, hoping that she would make contact with her opponent, or that they would make contact with her. She approached the other side of the arena quickly, metal legs clinking against the rocky floor before the ball would clink against the wall on the opposite side. Though she was not sure, she estimated that she was about 40 meters to the left of her opponents gate in the wall. Walking forward another 15 meters, she would swing the thread to her right, keeping it against the wall.

Kejido pressed his back against the stone as he heard movement in the distance. A smile playing under his mask as he took in the sound that had returned. It was some distance off now. However it had split into two sources. Now one was more back the way he had come and sounded almost like it was being dragged along. The other was an almost methodical walking noise. So she was hunting him with some sort of sound trajectory? Either way she was making a lot of noise. Likely he didn't need to worry about doing much of the same. For now he placed his windmill shuriken leaned up against the boulder he was hiding behind before keeping low and breaking away to the side quietly. With all that sound covering the area he doubted he would be detected by sound alone. Still his vision in this mist was limited to about fifteen meters before dropping entirely. It was disorienting but he could get used to it. He had something he wanted to test anyway. For now he glanced up and noted the faded stands above. Likely with someone watching him. Cowardly they would call it. For him he was just good tactics.

After all it was just him against a tank. One man that no one thought could get through that armor. He had doubts himself. Still he moved between the rocks moving rock to rock away from the new sound and to the puppets other side. Choosing to approach it from behind by taking the long route around. He knew he couldn't do much from his current stance in this fight. was at risk in comparison to her protected in that shell. However it had to have some sort of vulnerability. His silver eyes scanned the mist as he began to approach it now from the way it had come. Staying low and quiet. His silver gaze slowly made out a larger shape in the mist. He would get a little closer to discern if he was actually behind it or not. Only once he had done so he took the kunai into his hand. Aiming to arc it high instead of letting the angle throw his position away. With that he would release it high into the sky. Letting it fall point first to slam into the ground in front of the puppet. It was time to test if she saw normally. As soon as it would land it would let off a brilliant and blinding flash of light.

Nova wondered how her opponent had reacted to the noise, she pulled the ball back towards her with the strings, making a circle around the puppet at knee height to meters away from its body. Slowly she would rotate the ammo around her with the strings, ready to drop it when she got near her opponent. Slowly the puppet would just start to rotate away from the wall and back towards the arena, but before she had time to turn completely she would see a kunai land and sink into the ground in front of her before bursting into a flash of light. Her vision would have been marred for far longer had it been through her eyes, but her vision through the puppet was artificial and tinged green. The flash made her eyes sting and see nothing but white, but as the burst of light subsided after a fraction of a second she was able to see clearly again though her eyes felt as though they were watering. The puppet would spin around towards the mist, as she was sure that he was not cowering against the wall. She gazed into the mist in front of her, though she was unsure where the kunai had come from as it seem though it had fallen from the heavens. With the hand she did not use to control her puppet, she palmed a pieces of ammo and slid it into the slot, the single thread still having enough room to maintain it. From within the mist, no more than 15 meters away she thought she saw the shape of a human and without second guessing herself would fire the razor wire net at him. As the same exact time the ball being held by the thread would be flung in his direction as well, landing where his feet where when she shot and exploding into a pool of grease that was nearly imperceptible in the misty shadows. It spread quickly across the rocky ground, creating a slippy circle with a 4 meter diameter. It would cover the gap in a matter of a second, the next unfurling open to its 12 meter diameter when it was 5 meters away. The net skimmed the ground at 10 meters, only 5 where she though he stood, the upper half flinging itself down ahead of the bottom of the net. The net would cover a large amount of space, and Nova wondered if the boy had enough time to react. She knew nothing about him and hoped that her method would work on him as well as it did her other opponents. As that shot was fired she would slide another ammo in to place.

Kejido would watch as his armed flashbomb and kunai flew through the air. It was on its mark but for some reason he wasn't moving to follow up on it. Not intending to take advantage of the opening it was supposed to provide. No, this was just a test. Prodding at her defenses from the limit of his visibility range. Determining risk factors for if he did engage her. Up close she was massive and intimidating. How else would one describe a metallic spider at eye level? It was as if it was designed to inspire fear in her enemies. Still the flash would be far enough away that it would hardly effect him. Still he would cover his left eye with his now free hand and watched with a narrowed and ready silver eye. The flash of light was dulled this far away by the mist but it went off right in the things face. It even seemed to reel from it but only slightly. As if the item were not to its full effect. He would click his tongue as he considered that. So she was immune from a great deal of things eh?

Still he had apparently given away his position. She spun to face him and as soon as he knew he had been spotted he spun backwards. Launching back as hard as he could even as she began to fire the round and throw her other projectile. So that was the plan. Lure him in and hit him twice with two shots when he expected one. If he had been as slow as the usual genin that may have worked. However mid back flip his palm slammed down on a rock and launched him again. Tucking in his stomach and hard rotating his legs to give him extra distance on the jump. Even as he slid backwards the ammo hit the ground not far away. A little bit of grease splashing onto him as the razor wire threatened to nearly crash down upon him. Clearing the edge of it as he landed back on his heels and launched backwards again. Expecting her to pursue but not likely to keep up with him. She had demonstrated the speed and range of her shot. He wasn't worried about it at this distance. Still he would produce two senbon into his right hand and throw them at eye level with where the puppet had been. He knew it wouldn't do much but he wanted to let her know he was still able to poke back at her. Still he would call out at this distance. Giving reason a chance.

"I offer you the chance at surrender to save face. You can pursue me if you like but by now I am willing to bet your feeling that chakra draining from you. If you hadn't guessed it yet thats my plan. I am prepared to offer traps and distractions for some time if you persist. Do see reason young champion."

Even as he finished stating it he shifted to the right and began to back peddle to the far wall once more. Listening for the sound of her puppet in the cavernous arena they were in. Aiming to almost echo locate her just enough to keep his distance. She needed to get right on top of him if she wanted to press him for a win. He could hear the boo's from above at his tactic and even some jeering calls of where he was moving for her. He would click his tongue again and keep moving backward. If she was listening to them he couldn't simply hide from her. He doubted she wouldn't take every advantage she could. He was.

The boy jumped back into the mist far more nimbly than Nova expected, a sour expression crossing her face. As least her other opponents had come forth to try to fight her, though this opponent did not. Clearly he had watched her fight, giving him an edge considering she knew absolutely nothing about her opponent other than his quick reflexes and speed. It seemed as though he would be using the mist to his advantage, and though he would not be able to see much further than she the human form was much better at disappearing into the mist than that of a giant spider puppet. Nova was becoming frustrated, and feeling her chakra drain through her fingers and into Kurogokegamu she scowled. Though it was unlike her to loose her temper she unlocked the top and swung it open, sitting up and feeling the mist on her face. Deactivating her jutsu to see through the puppet she squinted into the mist and just as her hearing returned she heard a voice from beyond her view. "I offer you the chance at surrender to save face. You can pursue me if you like but by now I am willing to bet your feeling that chakra draining from you. If you hadn't guessed it yet thats my plan. I am prepared to offer traps and distractions for some time if you persist. Do see reason young champion.". At this Nova huffed, before responding with an antagonistic tone, “Are you too afraid to come out and actually fight me? If you show your face to me I'll surrender.”. It frustrated her that he was right, she had no way to find him. She wished that she had some way to sense him, making a mental note of her deficiency with the intent of fixing it with either a new addition to Kurogokegamu or a new puppet itself.
