Shimo began tossing the torches higher and higher now six feet, nine feet, twelve feet, and fifteen feet into the air! Then there was the deliberate catch an attention getting punctuation to the act… Shimo smiled yeah he got off on the attention a little bit but there was the ryo that was filling a coffee can too “I think it’s time for a snack” He raised the lit torches into the air and spun around presenting the torches to the crowed “I will now eat the fire from each of these lit torches! If you are easily frightened please look away.” He grinned there was a stark almost defining silence as he raised the first of the three torches into the air. A gasp of anticipation and just as the fire was about to touch his lips he quickly pulled the torch away asking “do you folks really want to see someone eat fire?” The crowd cheered and laughed and gave him some encouragement.
Shimo laughed and said “Well fine then here we go” up came the first torch and he touched the fire to his tongue and extinguished the torch while simultaneously lighting his tongue on fire. He again spun around so the whole crowd could see that his tongue was clearly a flame. Then he closed his mouth and swallowed the fire was out when he presented his tongue again. The second torch went into his mouth as Shimo closed his lips around it like the torch was an eating utensil and pulled it out. Opening the corner of his mouth as he “struggled” with the swallowing Shimo said “This one’s a little spicy”. The crowed again laughed as Shimo took another drink from the flask and picked up two “pikes” they were about two and a half feet long and on one side had a jagged blade and on the other was a wad of torch fuel securely fastened to the stick.
A flash of fire came across the lit torch and set the two pikes on fire. Shimo ate the last juggling torches fire showing that his tongue was clearly on fire. “And now Ladies and Gentlemen! Boys and Girls it is now time for my fire knife dance!” He raised the two flaming pikes high above his head with one hand showing the crowd.
