The sun shined down on a clearing within Kaminari no Kuni, the Land of Lightning. The air was crisp, the wind blew softly, trees swaying slightly in the breeze, one standing within the clearing would feel chilled, the average person, cold even. However, the man standing within the clearing didn't feel a thing, his body was, for better or worse, imune to the physical stimuli, which included heat or cold, pain or pleasure. The man stood strait, breathing deeply, an observer would notice his eyes were currently closed.

One watching the scene would see the man wearing a long black scarf wrapped around his neck, probably to fight off the chill. Under the fashion piece he wore a dark sleeveless tunic, open in the center to show a fishnet undershirt. Just over his heart an observer would notice a dark black marking, half hidden by his tunic, this was a tattoo in the shape of his clans’ emblem, the Raiu ninja clan. The man wore wraps around both his hands, which started at the thumbs, and wrapped up to mid elbow.
Adorning his right arm, just below the shoulder sat his Hitae-ate, the band of metal which marked him as a ninja, it was engraved with the mark of Kumogakure. Along his left shoulder, one would see a lighting-like design of black ink which disappear over his shoulder and back into his tunic. Much like his arms, one would notice his legs were also wrapped, starting at the ankles and ending at some point under his black pants. He wore the traditional sandals of a ninja, a black garb which allowed freedom of movement.

The man’s eyes opened.

Markus quickly glanced around him, the surrounding mountainous terrain seemed clear enough. As far as he could tell, there were no ninja within the area, and no civilians in sight. This would be a perfect place for Markus to train, he could go all out without fear. Markus smiled, something he hasn’t done in quite some time. Taking three deep breaths Markus started with a set of hand-signs.

Dragon -> Rat -> Horse -> Tiger

As the signs finished Markus focused his chakra on various branches and sticks around him, he watched as they changed and formed to his will, becoming compressed, resembling throwing weapons. With a quick flick of his wrist he launched three ninja needles at various trees, each hit is mark cutting a rope which he preset. All at once the forest burst with movement as various targets, logs, and trees started to sway, released from the confines that were once holding them.
Markus took off at a dead sprint, reaching down he grabbed two of the created shuriken. With a flick of his body weight he flipped through the air glancing behind him. Seeing two targets close together he threw both shuriken. Right now, Markus was more interested in speed, and accuracy, rather than strength. The two spun at the targets, both hitting their respective marks. Markus did not celebrate the small victory; his mind was already on the next task.

As his feet hit the ground, he again started running, with one hand he reached down and grabbed another of the projectiles. As he did this, his other hand was forming another hand-sign.

With a puff of smoke a second body appeared next to Markus. Then a third, a fourth, and finally a fifth. The four new arrivals looked the same as Markus himself, and their movements were similar, they all were running. Markus met the eyes of one of the doppelgangers, before separating, Markus took off towards his left, while his clone jumped running off to the right. The three-remaining followed closely on Markus’s tail. Time was running out, and their distance grew.

Markus stopped dead in his tracks, and turned on his heels towards the first clone, which was currently eleven meters from him. The other three continued to different locations. Markus again flicked his wrist, throwing the shuriken he grabbed from the ground. He watched as it sailed across the clearing, just as it hit his doppelganger, the clone dissipated in a cloud of smoke. Markus however signed. He had hit his clone as planned, however he missed the target swaying behind it by a couple inches.

Markus glanced at the remaining clones, he stood off to the western edge of the clearing. One of the clones stood four meters from him, looking and watching Markus. The other two stood next to one another, seven meters from Markus. He took another deep breath, starting to feel fatigued.

Markus smiled, despite his fatigue. He knew his clones could not hurt him, and he was wasting chakra hitting them. However, he felt it to be a good test, if nothing else he could practice his aim. He was alone after all. He had completely his first mission, and had been informed to head to the Administrative building tomorrow in order to get his squad assignment, however until then he would train, as he always did, in this clearing.

Looking around he smiled, he knew this place well. One of the Raiu clan trials were held here, a trial he had passed where others had… not. He again started moving, forming his hands into special signs all the while charging the Raiton element within his system. Using both hands, he made each into the likeness of a gun, his first and middle finger extended, with his thumb facing upwards. He would flip through the air as he discharged the jutsu, his Lightning Release: Shock Bullets launched from his fingertips, each of which were about the size of a tennis ball.

As the genin flipped through he air, he launched a total of eight “bullets” outwards, two towards his left, another three towards his right, one at two of his clones, and a final one behind him. He glanced as they either sailed, hitting their mark, or missed much to his disappointment. In total, he hit three of his targets, and dissipated another clone. This however did not cause him to stop, as two clones head for his direction.

Markus knew neither clone could really hurt him, however he treated each as a true advisory. Being certain to evade every attack that came his direction. He would dodge right, as another circled around to his left, he knew where he in a real fight. He would be in trouble. As such, he knew he would have to work fast to come up with a solution. He thought of the techniques he knew. He was considered skilled with ninjutsu and bukijutsu within the academy, his clan would call him a jutsu master. He knew he excelled at multi-tasking. Slowly, a plan started to form in his mind. First he would need to create a distraction… and then.

He took a quick breath, once more dodging a fake attack from his clone. His hands started to work in unison. Each forming their own signs. He had no weapons on him, so his skills in that were useless. However, he had a couple jutsu within his grasp which could form a solution. Markus ran, this time using his chakra to walk on water, the clones followed him.

Stopping suddenly, he turned, he knew his plan hindered him just as much as his opponents, however it was the options he had open to him. Focusing on the water around him, Markus started to infuse his chakra, all at once a thick most starts to rise from the depths. Around 15 meters in radius the mist forms, creating a barrier between himself and his clones. He knew were the fight real, none of the three could see one another. As soon as the mist was formed, Markus finished the rest of his second-hand signs. He felt the chakra generate itself through his body. He felt more than saw the three spear shaped masses of lightning form around him. He knew where they would be, one directly above his head, with the second and third to either side of him. He knew he had already used over a third of his chakra, if his plan didn’t work. He would have to finish the rest on skill alone, it was foolish for a ninja to use such large amounts on training alone.

Resigning himself to the situation, he jumped. Having had created the mist enough times he knew it was broader than it was tall. He knew in the air, he might just see what was needed to take out one, two of his enemies. As he jumped, Markus grasped the three spears, and forced each of them to fuse into one large attack. While using his other hand to grab a senbon from his pouch.

As his head came above the mist, he saw things were working in his favor. The first of his clones still stood off of the water, close to a large rock, while another seemed to have the same idea as himself and jumped. Using the senbon in his hand, he launched it at the clone in the air, while using the momentum to turn his body facing the one off the water, as he decent he through the lightning javelin with all his might, never getting to see if it hit his target he once more fell back into the mist.

As he landed he started to walk, he knew he was still on water and finally found himself leaving the mist when he looked around. The clearing showed signs of his training, with wooden projectiles here, and there. The large rock to his right held a black soot mark, without a doubt residue from his attack. He took a deep breath, and focused on his final clone, willing it to destroy itself.

He was exhausted, and the sun had reached the treeline. He knew soon enough it would disappear, as the day shifted into night. This was the genin’s favorite time of the day, when the mountainous region of the land of lightning started to take on the glow of twilight. He heard no animals around him, probably scared off with the sounds of battle.

Markus found himself looking over one of the clifts, enjoying the sunset, as he once again envied those who could feel the rays of light as they left their kiss upon skin.
