Clan History: The history of the Ōgumo Clan began when a young genin shinobi was left to die after a battle in Kirigakure during the Second Shinobi World War. Slipping into unconsciousness while drowning, she was saved by the demon spider Jorōgumo in exchange for obedience and servitude.

The young shinobi was taught in the arachnid Sage arts, and was utilised by the Jorōgumo to capture and sacrifice people for it. Eventually the shinobi intentionally forgot her identity and adopted the name of Ōgumo.

One day, however, she encountered another shinobi from Amegakure and the two of them fell in love. However, the Jorōgumo was not willing to lose its most deadly vessel so easily, and drew into a violent rage. Ōgumo and her lover barely escaped the demon's wrath after an extended running battle back to Kirigakure no Sato.

Ōgumo soon had a family, but they quickly realised that she was never to be completely free from the Jorōgumo. Years and years of spider Sage mode had altered Ōgumo's DNA so that her children and all future descendants would inherit spider anatomy. The Jorōgumo was merciful enough to forgive Ōgumo's betrayal, but demanded a small yearly sacrifice of valuables bound in spider silk from all her descendants as reparations. In return, the Jorōgumo would also mentor her descendants in the ways of spider Sage mode when they were ready.

The Ōgumo Clan never reached a high level of members in the following years, though they did manage to extend across the world with members in every nation and major village.

Despite having shared history, the Ōgumo are a scattered and a rarely united group. Constant isolation from each other often finds Ōgumo shinobi remaining loyal to their home village or country, even if it means conflicting with members of the same clan.

Kekkei Genkai Name: Kumo no kaibō-gaku (クモの解剖学) - Spider Anatomy

Kekkei Genkai Description: The Ōgumo Clan is made up of generations upon generations of shinobi who have worshipped or have been trained in the sage arts, by the demon spider Jorōgumo. This consistent lineage eventually caused some aspects of spider anatomy to be inherited at birth, from fangs to spider legs and even including optical abilities. The continuous influx of new genes to the already crowded gene pool has made nearly every possible combination unpredictable. However, Sage Mode and the massive power involved with it (such as manipulating their spider anatomy) are not available at birth.

Various Ōgumo techniques have been built around the strange anatomy as a result to compliment fighting styles. For example, Taijutsu techniques for striking with fangs and blocking with exoskeletal parts, or Ninjutsu for launching ambushes and laying traps.

They can raise them to 4 total Special Characteristics if they so wish. A Ōgumo ninja is also able to begin with one of the following traits, the chosen trait must be copied at the top of the user's justu list. They are able to take a Second Trait at B rank, and finally a third at S rank.

Spider Legs:
+1 tier to speed 'when sprinting' and the ninja is able to jump heights up to 5 times their height with little effort.


Spider Eyes:
+1 tier to visual perception and the ability to see clearly in the dark without chakra.


Spider Sensory Hairs:
+1 tier to audio perception through hairs and able to detect even the softest of footsteps and landings within 30 meters unless chakra would be used to limit sound-waves.


Spider Fangs:
Sharp 1.5 inch retractile fangs equal to one rank lower than the user's ninja rank producible from either the ninja's mouth. Dealing the base damage for a weapon of their rank.


Drawbacks: Due to the rarity of the Ōgumo and the oddity of their appearance, they tend to be shunned by those who lack the spider traits. This makes them harder to form relations with people of different backgrounds, whether they want to or not.

The Ōgumo Clan has also developed an over-reliance on the tools gifted to them by the Jorōgumo. As a result, Ōgumo are not able to learn Bukijutsu.

Ōgumo members are also required to make small yearly personal sacrifices to the Jorōgumo, wrapped in spider silk. These gifts are sealed, and then delivered to the demon in the Swamp of Sorrow in Kirigakure on pilgrimage. If the debt is not paid within a year of the last, the Jorōgumo will arise and feast on the unfortunate Ōgumo's chakra and everyone else's in the surrounding area until it is almost gone. Their recovery will slow and painful after the experience.
