Fukai
D-rank
Tonight, he had some business to attend to. The yellow sun encrusted in a pastel orange sky was sinking to its slumber. Fukai needed to sort out the situation that had arisen yesterday. His feet were taking him to the dwelling of one Kanta Kudaru. Yesterday, when Fukai had managed to rescue an ANBU team from trouble, he took charge of the situation. Kanta had stood against him and opposed his impromptu leadership, which had in turn caused friction within the group. The friction had then resulted in one man’s death. Fukai could not let this sit.
It had been clear from the beginning that Kanta would be a rival of his. Having been one of the big shots within the Crimzon Elite, he didn’t take to kindly to Fukai’s growing popularity. You see, over time, Fukai’s feats had impressed the members of the ANBU, and the man who had once been a complete loner had begun to gain friends that listened to him. But regardlessly, Kanta had always been the top dog, coming from old money, having the support of his family's’ ties and being extremely strong meant that he had sway within the org. It was not until yesterday that he had been directly challenged by the dark horse that the people call the Violet Wraith.
Kanta had been leading a group on a fringe mission out of the country where they had run into trouble. They had been able to get away a message back to HQ, which Fukai had been notified of. By the sound of it, they had already declared themselves a lost cause. Yet despite the orders from the administrators, Fukai had come to their aid. Fukai once again gained a huge boost in notoriety within the ANBU and he had now managed to have the majority of agents in his corner. Naturally, Kanta had not liked the outcome of yesterday’s events one bit. Yes, the purple eyed jounin knew that this confrontation could get heated. But for the sake of the rest of the squad and future missions, he would take this chance to put Kanta in his place.
There was a strange lack of noise from the streets around him. Shops were packing up for the day and children were being called in for their dinner. He was about to turn right down a street towards Kudaru’s house when he spotted a shape out of the corner of his eye. Turning to investigate further, he saw a familiar silhouette down the street to his left. Fukai tensed for a second, wondering what this was about. He had expected for his rival to have been notified of his coming, but he doubted that Kanta would be stupid enough to try something out in the middle of the road. Fukai would set his eyes on the figure and slowly start to advance, only to see the figure turn away from him and disappear down a side street. He would follow, taking a few minutes to spot him. Again, the figure would leave his line of sight, and Fukai would catch up. It was becoming clear that he was being lead somewhere, but where was that exactly?
After half a dozen times, Fukai was fed up. He was about to chase down this guy when he realised where they were going. The path was much too specific for it to be anything else. He was being lead to one of the entrances to Subterra, that was hidden in the residential area of the village. What the hell was going on? Fukai sprinted at the figure determined to catch it. This time he got close enough to the man to see Kanta’s face for a moment before he dematerialised with a body flicker. Shit shit. His mind was running wild with possibilities as to what was going down. He headed straight for Subterra itself this time, sure that this was where he was supposed to go. The figure did not turn up again.
He could not sense anyone around him with his ANBU sensory when he entered the hideout, sure that there was nobody to see him. He descended down the steps and passed the fake wall to the organisation that was held beneath the Rock. His heart rate had risen, as he searched room to room for some meaning. Then he saw it. Walking into the main hall, Fukai came across half a dozen corpses strewn about the ground. The jounin’s heart dropped. Running over, he noticed one man’s body, that was undeniably Rat. His chest had been ripped open by a blade and his innards had started to leak. The hard chill of death had gripped his body. The rest of the bodies were children. The junior agents of Subterra, their young lives maliciously ended too soon.
Fukai was in shock. All he could hear was the sound of his gasping breath, heaving in the metallic flavoured air. There was no question in his mind what had just happened. Kanta had done this to get to him. Fukai bent over double. His hands now deep in the curdling sanguine pool. He retched a bellowing scream from his gut. A torrent of sadness turned to a roar of hate.
A girl appeared in the doorway, her eyes big with terror. It was Tomoko, one of the junior agents. Fukai looked up, realising how she must feel. He got up and walked over to her, taking her away from the scene. These kids had already come from a tragically unfortunate life. Now theirs had been ended so soon. For Tomoko, her adopted father and siblings had been killed. Fukai kneeled and looked her in the eye. He realised that he had nothing to say. He couldn’t comfort her or tell her that it was just a dream. This was reality, it was their punishing life that they both lead. He couldn’t even take her hand, his own were still drenched in the blood of his comrade.
All he could do was ask her to do something for him. He would ask her to go to find one Yuurei Jet. He gave her a general area of where to find her. Upon finding Jet, she would be told to meet Fukai in an empty building in about ten minutes time, and to be ready for a fight. The meeting place would be an unused garage, from there Fukai would brief Jet. Tomoko would nod and scamper away without a word.
He wouldn’t be satisfied until this wickedness had been requited with bloody reparation.
