"Hey mom! You have breakfast ready yet?" The small girl at the top the stairs, her tiny slippered feet thumped down each step as she sleepily wiped her eyes. She wore a simple black nightgown, attached was a little hoodie with fluffly fabric in the shape of large cat ears. Her blue eyes blinked with drowsiness, evident that the child had only woken from slumber a few moments ago.

"Yes, Mari-chan! I made your favorite, chocolate and fruit hot cereal!"

There was a woman in the kitchen, her black hair tied in a bun a little lopsided on the back of her head. She was smiling brightly, like that of a doting mother, and was already setting the breakfast table with dishes of hot cereal and other breakfast foods. She quickly beckoned her child to the table, even moving the chair closer when the small girl got to the seat.

"Honey, get up here for breakfast!"

The mother called down the stairs, she was quickly answered with an "Alright, alright!" As a man of light hair and blue eyes came up the stairs. His clothes were slightly disheveled and his hair messy. Though, last night he did not sleep a wink and had been up making his way through the labyrinth of papers and books that were held in the downstairs archives. He adjusted his reading glasses haphazardly on his head.

"After breakfast you're going straight to bed!"

The woman wagged her finger in the air, nagging her husband to stop working so late into the night. The small girl simply ate her hot cereal and tilted her head at her two historian parents. Her father replied that the entire series of historical Jutsu records needed to be organized by date rather than by element, to which her mother replied that all of that could be done at a later date, but also not late at night. The two ended up laughing at each other while the girl watched them both, smiling along as they poked fun at each other.

Mari awoke to the sound of birds chirping. The Suna Shinobi sat up and stretched her arms, she looked around to see that she had fallen asleep under the shade of tree. She smiled to herself, not quite remembering her dreams but since she woke up feeling refreshed, she knew that they had to have been good ones.

She stood up and dusted some grass off her dress. It was time for her to start making her way back home. Her time in Kumo had been good, she had met many other shinobi, hopefully made a few allies, and generally enjoyed visiting another place. From mysterious, wistful souls like Seiryū-san, to some interesting civilians like Razan-san, even other shinobi from other villages, and certainly a powerful shinobi from her own village. The thoughts of seeing any of them again slightly disheartened her as it was not likely as many of them were not Suna Shinobi, however she couldn’t let herself be taken down by unlikely odds. If destiny choose for them to see each other again, then it would be so.

The girl sighed to herself as she continued walking along alone. Silence. It seemed to serve as her only traveling companion. Thinking back her parents always at least had each other when they traveled around the shinobi world. When she was alone at home, there seemed to something comforting about the sound of silence. It was something she was accustomed to, the silence of the archives that she called home. The silence of the desert that surrounded the village. Indeed the sound of silence was something that comforted her.

Soon though, she would return. It would only be a matter of time.
