Yuudai

Yuudai

D-rank
Another mission, this one would be without his companion, Suichi. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to take the creature along, but rather due to the need of needing a peace of mind for himself, something Suichi seemed to understand completely without having to be informed. There were times when Suichi was nothing but trouble, but more often he understood Yuudai and was able to give him space before he pushed the Aisu clan leader too far, though he did have almost an endless amount of patience. He actually tended to enjoy the company Suichi provided him, though it was different with the penguin than it was with other human beings, other shinobi. There was still a desire, a suppressed one, but a desire nonetheless, for a human connection, for someone he could feel comfortable with. But this was neither the time or place for such thoughts, he had a mission to accomplish, though it was relatively easy given the description of such a task. A mission that he really wondered why it was classified under an A rank given the mission description and the actual task ahead, though somewhat understandable given the location and threats that could potentially be present.

He had been given the task of retrieving rare herbs for the village due to fewer people venturing out into the forest to retrieve the herbs for the village’s benefit. With the construction going on within the village walls, Yuudai felt he could easily be one to retrieve said herbs, mainly due to his actual lack of work within the village, something that occurred due to his current positions in the village and in the Aisu clan. Feeling relatively useless remaining within the village walls, a menial A ranked task would fit the bill was all Yuudai needed to get a grasp on what he could be doing in the near future. Missions and training always held some form of priority. He was tasked to do work for his clan, not that he minded. Maybe a bit of travelling in the near future would help him grow as a shinobi of Kirigakure no Sato. There was a lot more out there beyond the waters that surrounded Mizu no Kuni.

He felt a bit unprepared, but that was given since he mainly went around with a katana and his senses, though given the current state of the village ranks, there were only a handful that could truly match up against him from the village, but he made note of gaining a bit more equipment, better quality as well, for the future. Though with the missions at hand, the ones currently available, he felt that he could manage the tasks easily, he was one of the Sannin of Kirigakure no Sato after all. Today, Yuudai wasn’t dressed too much differently than normal, in fact he chose to wear something other than his fight kimono that he seemed to wear a bit too often, but it was probably best suited for his previous environment of being mainly indoors, suffocating himself by not being outside with nature. Clad in his black tailcoat and all that he wore with it, Yuudai felt it wasn’t the best suited for venturing out in the forests around Kiri, but he could easily manage, clothing presented no issues for him after years of being a shinobi. With the weather of Kiri’s lands usually remaining constant, and with the Aisu clans inherent temperature, the weather outside did not affect Yuudai the slightest as he exited his home, roughly some time in the afternoon.

The breeze was almost faint, untraceable, but Yuudai felt it. It was a welcomed feeling. The map he had acquired for the mission gave a location of various herbs that grew exclusive to Mizu no Kuni, something which the village prided itself in. While the map would help, it certainly wouldn’t be able to pinpoint the exact location of the herb he needed to find, and he hoped there was a quantity of it at least, he had been informed of picking at least three of the same herb, something which Kirigakure no Sato clearly was in dire need of.

The trek to the village walls happened to go by quickly, though he did not mind a single bit. Whether it be the lands outside of the village or the areas within, it still remained his home, thus he wasn’t going anywhere except for accomplishing the task at hand. The same buildings stood, with a few more being constructed in the background. The main road, the one that lead to all the possible main locations one would want to go to was present with buildings of familiarity, of buildings that barely changed over time continued to pass. The same shop owners stood their, familiar, yet still changing their appearance due to age. The passersby were always different, whether they were visitors or locals. There stood, down the street, the main gates that provided entry and exit to the village. He’d easily be able to get out, as a Sannin most shinobi had heard of him, allowing him free entry and exit of the village, though he’d probably never do as such without formally informing the Mizukage, his cousin, Solstice, about his intentions of leaving the village. Mainly, it was concern for the Hidden Mist that brought about his potential actions.

Passing through the gates was a simple task, actually, it was just a simple nod, and he had gotten free exit of the village, but he hadn’t expected it to be any different than what occurred. It was a mission he had received, he was a Sannin, people - shinobi - could put things together. Nothing changed much in terms of the atmosphere, except for the vast differences brought by endless trees with the thick mist hanging over top of the treeline. He would have to travel close the the village walls for a bit, then split of and keep heading due east. He had been informed upon taking the mission that there was a freshly planted tree in the general vicinity of the herbs, so that it’d give him a hint of as to where he could possibly find the item he needed. He knew he’d have to be wary of the wildlife around the area, some of which could easily be provoked if they spotted the Kirigakure no Sato shinobi in their claimed territory. The further into the thicket of trees he would go, the more likely he would be trespassing into the territory the animals have claimed; his only worry was if he would end up attack a creature to protect himself, but knowing himself, he’d probably be able to get out of the way and gather the item without having to retaliate.

His journey started off slow, trying to gain a general direction of where he wanted to go - east. The thicket of trees would become a bit more difficult to maneuver through the further in; for a civilian, but as a shinobi, this did not provide much hinderance to his mobility through the greenery around Kirigakure no Sato. Very little truly stood in the way of ninjas when it came to travelling, they were seasoned for traveling in most conditions, so long as their bloodline or health did not pose a problem towards specific environments; and even then anyone could be capable of pushing themselves and going through difficulties with relative ease. Trees zoomed by, quick weaving and dodging allowed Yuudai to avoid being hit by any of the shrubs and branches that would get in his path. The sounds of wildlife continued, almost as if knowing about the intrusion to the forest, but did nothing of it, knowing that they’d be relatively safe given by the aura being emitted from the Kirigakurian. It was almost like an acceptance of his journey into the forest. It would be further in, he had no more use for the map he had obtained possession of, eventually throwing it back into the depths of his left pocket, knowing that it would remain secure there, and it was one of the many copies that were spread throughout the village, so the only harm that would come of losing it would be if an outsider were to possess the map and thus knowing the whereabouts the herbs that were around Kirigakure, instead of having to personally search the forests for themselves. It wouldn’t do well the village, but it probably wouldn’t cause much harm either, knowing that the patrols could easily sense outsiders.

He was getting closer, that was for sure. The memo he had received stated that there would be a small clearing that he would have to pass, keep going beyond it for a minute or so before he would reach the general area of the fresh tree; it would easily be spotted due to it’s smaller size compared to the rest of the forest. That was all that was really given, besides being informed that he would have to then travel towards the coast from the tree, other than that, there was clearly a large gap between the two given locations. He would have to spot the herb through the use of his eyes, as it would have a certain feature that would cause it to stand out amongst the rest. The clearing was coming up, and then it quickly zoomed right by him, as travelling at such a high speed would clearly cause him to overshoot the entire clearing, but he needed to go beyond it anyways. Starting to slow down his pace, coming to a level where he could easily be spotted by civilian eyes, Yuudai hopped down from the thicket of trees and decided to continue the search for the herb from the ground. It would help him spot the tree he needed to make note of, before having to travel northward towards the coast.

Less than a minute had passed and he found himself at his first of two destined locations. The tree that was easily smaller than the rest stood in front of Yuudai’s eyes, a tree that was clearly planted in the soil just a short while ago compared to the rest of the greenery. If he had to assume, it was possibly less than one hundred years old, but he also was no expert in forestry; the potential to be wrong was there. The top of the tree stood less that twelve feet tall, clearly still young compared to it’s wooden brethren surrounding it. Turning his attention away from the tree; noting that he did not need to stop and stare, his attention was taken by a quiet growling noise, multiple growling noises in fact. Quickly using his eyes to scan the area, he took not of being circled by a pack of wolves, each seemingly wary of his presence in their territory. If only there was a way for him to communicate with the beasts, but since he had no other options, he’d just have to outrun them to retrieve the herb, possibly even having to resort to knocking them out.

He waited another second, not wanting to make a step towards them, but it was inevitable, since otherwise they would launch an attack on the shinobi. He didn’t know what to expect out of them, they clearly had numbers and a pack mentality, but they still weren’t shinobi, so he had the advantage in that sense. Keeping calm, knowing that getting agitated wouldn’t help him, Yuudai placed his left hand upon the hilt of his katana, knowing that it would get the pack of eight’s attention. Their eyes followed the hand, knowing it landed on the weapon, though did not back off in their display of anger, in fact their eyes seemed to narrow even more, the growling became a bit louder. He’d have to subdue them, or possibly kill, if he wanted to retrieve the herbs without any trouble. Then another sound, in fact two. He turned his attention to the left, the direction of the coast and the potential herbs he needed to find. The wolves, who once displayed their fierceness disappeared. Attempting to put two and two togther, the only reasonable explanation was that the two figures before him were the reason behind the actions the creatures took; they had invaded their territory. Two rogue shinobi’s had clearly taken over the area, probably seeking out the herb he was also trying to gather.

“Hey, pretty boy! What are you doing around these parts? Shouldn’t you be going on a date?” Clearly, the larger of the two rogues didn’t know who he was talking to, and judging by the expression on the second, he also felt similar to his companion. “What are you doing around here? This is still Kirigakure’s jurisdiction, and you clearly don’t belong here.” He didn’t recognize the two, then again the suspicion was brought about due to the bandanas they wore to cover the bottom half of their face. “Saizo, let’s just kill him and gather the plants. Time is money!” The one known as Saizo charged, no hesitation, no thinking, just flat out assault. He clearly was underestimating a shinobi of Yuudai’s caliber, but he had only reached the renowned rank of Sannin just recently, so word probably still was spreading beyond the village, travelling across the waters and to other countries and the hidden villages. He was fast, though Yuudai felt he’d be able to dodge relatively successfully. All that was needed was a quickstep to the side, allowing the charging individual to shoot right past the Sannin of Kirigarkure. This did put him in a position not best suited, having an opponent in front for him and behind him.

There footsteps were loud. The one in front of him, still unnamed, was charging for him, a kunai in hand. The other, Saizo, hadn’t moved a step from what he heard, until two seconds after the other’s charge. The fisted kunai was aim directly for his neck, and he’d have to be wary of backing up to avoid the attack, so the best course of action he could possibly come up with would have to be to duck, attack and see what the other was doing, which would also be an attack. The sound of the kunai whizzing by his neck played clearly near his ear. His only form of an attack from his crouched position would have to be a hit to the sternum with the use of his katana. With that, the sound of a dull thud rung quietly, allowing Yuudai to fully draw the blade and push it backwards, not in to his hilt, but rather the approaching rogue nin that wanted to gain the advantage. Resistance, a swish, and he had almost gutted his opponent, luckily he hadn’t had his eyes, thus not having to absorb the details of the image. Pulling his blade back out, he tried to avoid the sight of blood that tainted the cleanliness of the weapon, though it had drawn blood previously. He was still alive, he knew that from the heavy breathing. “Leave. Flee the country and you both may live, or else I may just have to kill you both.” He hated ushering threats, but it was necessary in the given circumstances. There was a moments pause from the one in front of him, clearly contemplating the course of action that he should take, clearly leaning towards the option of fleeing. It may not be the most viable option, but Yuudai felt that it was just for his own beliefs, and he wouldn’t hesitate a second time to take their lives. It wasn’t even less than thirty seconds that had passed before the individuals had clearly taken the chance to flee. All that was left was the herb, all that he had wanted to come here for. His tarnished blade was resheathed; a mental note was made for him to clean it completely. The herbs would just be a few seconds away, he’d just have to pick a few and head back to the village, something that would be so easy, yet still classified as an A rank mission; for good reason given the ambush. There, standing mere meters away from him were a couple of bushels full of the herbs he needed to collect, something which the two he previously encountered probably also wanted to find.
