Round One: Ting vs. Hattori, Kashiki T9LeFaL

Covered with a specialized glass dome that allows spectators to watch without allowing light to enter the arena, contestants will find themselves in a black room, unable to see at all without the aid of techniques or items which provide vision in pitch black. However, the arena contains five torches, one in the center, and four at points 20m away to the left and right of where each contestant enters. These torches provide 10m radius light sources by which shinobi can navigate and detect one another. Curiously, though each of these light sources and all within their radius can be seen from anywhere in the arena, their light does not spill past the zone prescribed to them.

The day had come with such swiftness, Ting was a live wire of nerves as she took her initial steps through the double doors which lead to nowhere. Enveloped by darkness, the young woman of the Hidden Leaf village was momentarily confused. Across the field she would take in the glow of evenly distributed torches. Twenty meters to her left and her right, one torch on each side unnaturally illuminated a perfect ten meter radius. This sort of thing was not at all what Ting had anticipated, but the moment the doors behind her closed she would not hesitate for even a moment. Drawing forth all of her collective knowledge of the academy and her experiences since, the Child of Konoha would act. She saw no adversary, but knew one would present themselves as no proctor had shown up to initiate any bout. Three academy clones would form within the darkness, rushing forth and each taking three unique positions. Two would stand just outside of the radius of light provided by the torches to Ting’s left and right, and the final clone would walk into the circle at the center of the arena and wave toward the place Ting presumed the other contestant would have entered.

I..is anyone there? How are we supposed to fight in this if we can’t see outside of the torches?” The clone would tremble as she spoke, as if a frightened and helpless girl.

While the clones were positioning themselves, Ting would activate her Expose technique, sending chakra through her inner ears and empowering her hearing. It was as though she could feel the surroundings through the pressure exerted on her now very sensitive inner ear, and with that she would remove her traditional wooden sandals and leave them behind at her starting position, navigating through the dark area to the right of the center torch. After stopping around five meters right of the lit radius around the torch Ting would retrieve from her pouch five glass senbon, attaching chakra strings to each and tossing them with full force, each around five inches from the other. She would use the chakra strings to fly the senbon back and forth around the area she presumed her opponent would have entered, sweeping low across the ground as if to hit the legs and homing in on them if she picked up their position via pressure, remaining vigilant to any sound that may have informed her of their actual location.

Kashiki stepped into the arena, the darkness was a surprise to him. The arena was a void of darkness, five torches were scattered about the arena granting 10m areas of light. 'I thought this would be a bit more straight forward...' He thought as he pulled of his poncho and took his kunai out of a pouch on his side. After waiting a few seconds for a proctor to start the match, Kashiki went to work. No proctor had spoken but he didn't think one was going to, he didn't really hear anything in the darkness. Kashiki flowed a bit of chakra into the poncho, preparing it for a substitution technique in case he were to be attacked, then he tied the end of the poncho into the loop of his kunai and threw the kunai off to his right, having it flit just on the edge of the torch to his right, hopefully drawing attention that direction.

Kashiki then slipped his shoes off to make less noise, if the arena was going to make stealth an option he was going to chose it. Then, he pulled his hands into a set of hand seals; bird, dragon, and ox. Chakra flowed into the air around him, allowing him to detect exactly nothing more then he had before. 'That was helpful...' Kashiki thought just as he detected a group of objects enter the 20m area of his jutsu. five senbon judging by the dead zones in the air, moving fast, about 15/m a second. Kashiki leapt backwards, his bare feet touching the glass dome as he used the Supernatural Walking Practice to stick to it. Kashiki moved with a burst of speed, dashing diagonally up the dome, moving in the general direction of where the senbon came from. He made sure to stay low enough that his sensory technique would detect his opponents head if they were within 5m of the dome wall.

With a yank of her wrist, Ting would draw the senbon back to herself, and place them into her pouch again, throwing her light green jacket to the floor while placing a bit of chakra into it in order to prepare it for future usage. The black, skin-tight bodysuit revealed beneath was made for comfort during physical activity, and was Ting’s go-to outfit for heavy combat. It did frame her busty form quite well, but she had her doubts about how well that could help her right now anyway. The woman knew that now was the time for more direct action as she had already let the chakra strings dissipate without further usage. Slightly frustrated with the unsuccessful “fishing trip”, Ting would allow muscle tissue to envelop her legs and leap forward ten meters in the direction of the space equal distance between the two torches on the side of the arena opposite that which she had entered. She stopped directly between them, and immediately felt the presence of her still unrevealed adversary around 10 meters from her current position and oddly enough scaling the large glass dome they were contained within.

Not looking to leave herself open just in case he was also aware of her presence, Ting would activate one of her favorite combinations. Speeding up the rate at which her cells would divide by flooding chakra throughout her body, Ting would call forth four large, red, fleshy-looking tendrils from her back and send two of them forth at a speed of twenty meters per second swatting the length of the side of the dome she perceived the other figure upon. Extended the full twenty meters of their length, the likelihood she would miss with both tendrils was slim. An unconventional tactic, Ting would simultaneously push against the ground with the other two tendrils, lifting herself upwards toward the location of the target at a speed of twenty meters per second as well. She would arrive upon him while he was already being attacked by the two others, her fist cocked back and already swinging at his abdomen upon arrival, her spiked glove poised to do quite the bit of damage.

Kashiki's sensory jutsu pinged. A human-shaped dead zone right on the edge of his sensory jutsu. Kashiki remembered something his father had told him, If you could see your target it was always better to assume they could see you too. Kashiki was right in the thinking, and after pulling a shuriken out of his pouch and throwing it at the shinobi, he detected movement as four fleshy tendrils expanded out of the shinobi he had thrown the shuriken at. The two of the tendrils launched themselves at Kashiki, moving with incredible speed in his direction. Kashiki met this with a jutsu of his own, his hands forming the tiger and dragon hand seals before punching his fists together. Dark reddish purple fire erupted over Kashiki, coating him in an aura of blazing protective energy, complete with a tengu mask with a long thin nose, long ears, and pointed horns. Kashiki was struck by the tendrils, but they harmlessly collided with his coating of fire. His opponent moved, launching herself at him with incredible speed. Kashiki drew his sword and held it in front of him, as soon as she got near he would thrust if forwards, hoping to stab her in the stomach or torso with the long blade. Right before the blade bit into her flesh, Kashiki would flow futon chakra into it creating a spiraling aura of wind around his blade and body. "Lets see how you like this!" Kashiki shouted. After the exchange of blows or if she somehow dodged the attack, Kashiki would drop to the ground, ready to substitute if need be.

As Ting flew through the air, she would both see and feel her tendrils fail to connect any actual damage to her target in the instant before she would arrive to deal her strike. A purple blaze would envelope her target, whom she would now recognize as a male, for certain. Realizing the young man was protecting himself with some sort of barrier, she knew her strike would find no mark without enhancement. The attempt at drawing his blade after forming handseals was not quick enough to occur before Ting was upon him with her strike. She would channel her Might technique through her arms, and the one poised to strike the target’s stomach would be released forth as intended. This would destroy the barrier and allow the four 2.5 inch long spikes of her knuckles to burrow into the opponent’s heavy armor, negated slightly by its protective quality but still not enough to nullify the damage (on hit would lower the damage by one rank, reducing the piercing damage to 1 inch). She would plant her legs upon the surface and swing for the opponent’s face with a basic strike before bounding back off of the surface of the wall at 10 meters per second, landing herself back upon the ground below - within the darkness between the two torches she was now certain the young man had come in from, drawing her tendrils back with her. Now she would await retaliation, Orestes to activate a defensive measure at a moments notice.

The spiked knuckles of his opponent's fist pieced through his armor, the spikes piecing an inch into his flesh. Kashiki grunted as the punch connected, not expecting it to break through his defensive technique. He wasn't quite expecting the the punch to actually hurt him, assuming his demon cloak would protect him. His opponent brought her other arm back for another punch, this one aimed at his head. Kashiki threw a forearm at the punch just as she threw it, knocking it just over his head as he crouched slightly. His opponent leapt from the wall, landing on the ground 10 meters out from the wall. Kashiki dropped to the ground, ending the Supernatural Walking Practice. Kashiki brought his hands together, forming the monkey, snake, and bird hand seals. Katon chakra welled in his body but stayed their, the jutsu was prepared but not yet taking effect. If his opponent moved towards him at all he would activate the jutsu, flowing the chakra into a paper thin sheet under the ground filling a 15m radius. The area would immediately be filled with extreme heat, causing second degree tissue damage due to burns to his opponent's legs and lower torso. If she moved away from him Kashiki would activate the jutsu when she left sensory range. If none of that happened Kashiki would activate the jutsu after a short wait (taking effect after your next post).

Ting would remain in her position, detecting the boy as he dropped from his position on the wall after her retreat. She had not anticipated his redirection of her attempted strike to his face, leaving her a bit disappointed at the fact that he had not been damaged any more than a few minor holes punched in his torso. Blood dropped from the metal spikes of her gloves, a tell-tale sign of the exchange which had just occurred. The boy was around ten meters away from her still, and as far as she could tell he was able to perceive her in the complete darkness but had not concerned himself with her clones. Two of the said clones had dispersed earlier, being left on the other side of the map and not maintaining the range necessary to remain intact, while the one still standing in the center was still in effect. This clone, previously ignored would slip into the darkness and rush by Ting while the opponent stood still, moving his hands about in a manner which her best guess would suggest to be handsigns.

The decoy would disturb not even the slightest speck of dust upon the floor due to its insubstantial nature, slipping over to his backside and enacting a terribly deceptive plot. The clone would approach just around three inches behind the young man, poised to speak into his ear. The arena was unnaturally silent. At the exact moment which the clone began her speaking, Ting would activate her Wound Termination Technique, her Seven Heavens Breathing Method, and mentally ready herself for an emergency use of the Chakra Reverse Pulse. This would all occur at the same moment the clone spoke loudly and suddenly into his ear.

If I were you I’d stop focusing on that diversion over there and check behind you, Weak little boy. The clone would taunt him with a giggle as she cried out as one would do in the instance of an over dramatic punch. The rather demeaning comment toward him was not Ting’s true feelings but she was using diversion. She would apologize later.

She was not willing to give up all that she had worked for in preparation for these exams, she needed to prove herself worthy of Konohagakure no Sato. Clenching her fists as she felt the will of fire flowing through her veins, Ting would choose now to go all in, channeling chakra into her left fist to produce the agezuki and crackle techniques. In time with the poof sound signifying her clone’s demise, a viscious burn would engulf the woman’s legs and lower abdomen, her Wound Termination  healing the damage as it occurred but the pain remaining true. As this unfolded, she would already be mid-dash toward the young man who stood only ten meters from her position. With left arm cocked back, poised to strike with the assistance of the Agility technique she was already geared to arrive at his location in only a second, however she wasn’t finished with her advance. Just as she dashed forward, she would shove the ground behind her with full force at twenty-meters per second with her tendrils at a slight angle, bringing her total forward movement toward the boy to an incredible thirty-five meters per second. As she approached and the pain simply would not desist, she would surrender to an impulsive use of the Chakra Reverse Pulse as she entered within a five meter range of the boy, moving at such a speed she might have seemed a blur to the untrained eye.

With a dutiful commitment to her home and the weight of the world upon her shoulders, Ting would strike with the full essence of her youth directly into the jaw of her adversary. Through her mind, the years of abuse and neglect from her father would crack and shatter, the sin of indulgence that had consumed two years would be annihilated. Like a burning fuel, the Will of Fire and vigor of youth drove her fist forward with power assigned only to the true of heart. Her arm would come forward without hesitation, the hook strike moving at forty meters per second all on its own, not including the speed of her arrival. If the strike made contact, not only would the spikes of her gloves pierce 2.5 meters into the right side of her still nameless adversary’s face, but the impact of agezuki and crackle would break his jaw entirely, dislodging several teeth in the process and more likely than not striking the consciousness out of the boy.

The heat engulfed the clone, the poofing noise bringing a strange sense of calmness to Kashiki. He knew he wasn't weak, he knew who he real opponent was but, did this fight really matter in the grand scheme of things. All he would be doing is taking someone's chance away at bringing glory to their village, the village he was soon going to leave behind. Konohagakure wasn't the place for him. The dreams, the coincidental meeting with the person rebuilding the Hidden Sand Village, the stories he was told as a child, what did this fight mean to him, he couldn't be promoted by the Hokage anyways, not if he left. She could, she had a chance to become more, all she had to do was prove herself in these exams.

He had decided, Sunagakure was his home, or rather, it was meant to be his home. Kashiki felt a wave of chakra strike his body, the heat that once filled the ground around him dissipated as his opponent dashed forwards. He could feel her, same as one could feel the wind, same as one could feel the sun on their back and the sweat on their skin. He didn't hate this person, if anything, he loved them more then he loved himself. They were strong, probably stronger then he could ever be.

Kashiki thought back to his time in the academy, he remembered a lesson about the will of fire. The belief that Konoha shinobi  loves, believes, cherishes, and fights to protect the village. This girl had it, more bright and blazing then he had ever seen before. That is what made her strong. Kashiki could never find the will of fire with himself, I suppose that's the first time he ever had the creeping suspicion that he didn't belong here. All of this happening within a instant of calmness, before Kashiki reacted.

He ducked low, the punch sailing past his head, his unruly mop of brown hair rustling simply by the wind created by the force of the punch. He pushed off the ground, his body sailing into his opponent as she stopped at the climax of her punch, he wrapped his arms around her knees and pulled them towards him, tackling the girl to the ground. He climbed on top of her, his legs to her sides and his body placed over her stomach giving her nowhere to go. His hand grabbed a hold of her clothing, balled fists gripping it with both physical strength and the determination to get this girls attention. He stared her in the eyes, a bit of moisture welling in the corners of his eyes, not yet a tear but definitely on its way to becoming one. The sadness he felt wasn't at the girl, or the idea of what he was about to do, it was at himself. Sadness over the realization that he truly didn't belong, sadness over the idea that he could even stomach defecting let alone actually do it.

He stared down at the girl, his face blank aside from the sadness clear in his eyes. "You deserve this fight, you're one of the strongest shinobi Konohagakure has seen or ever will see. After this you better win this thing, OK! Don't do it for me, not because I asked you to, or because of what I'm going to do" the the moisture once welling in his eyes now becoming a single set of tears that rolled down his face which he pulled a hand up to his face to wiped away. "Win this for your village, nothing else. That's the one thing I ask of you." Kashiki finished as he pushed off the girl, his emotions finally getting under control.

He slowly walked to the center of the arena, his opponent still lay on the ground where Kashiki had tackled her at, still in shock at the whole thing most likely.

"Can I get a god-damn proctor in here yet!" Kashiki yelled into the void, ready to just be done with this fight. A few seconds later a leaf village jonin stepped into the light of the center of the arena. "What's up?" the jonin proctor asked. "I forfeit the match." Kashiki replied before walking through the door that he had came in through and leaving through it. The doem of the arena opened, light streaming down on the shocked genin that Kashiki had forfeited to.
