Round One: Kumonosu Zinan vs. Aburame Kanro Mnm3Lg4

This arena takes the form of a serene lake, in the center of which is an island with a 10m radius. Contestants enter on similar banks, 1m radius islands on opposite sides of the arena. The arena is otherwise unremarkable save for necessitating the use of Supernatural Walking Practice, or the ability to swim in order to navigate.

Zinan entered the arena with his eyes wide open and scanning. He found himself on a small island that was barely big enough to stand on. Everything else around him was still water. In the middle of the lake, around forty meters away, Zinan spotted a small island, and past that Zinan spotted an island similar to his, on which he assumed his opponent would appear. There was nothing else to the arena, just this calm lake. He narrowed his eyes. This arena put him in a tight spot in terms of jutsu. While he knew that one of the elements of chakra that his body was best suited for was suiton, he had spent most of his time practicing and honing his family's secret jutsu, which did not focus on any particular element, so he would be hard pressed to utilize the water that surround him and his opponent. He did know one raiton based jutsu, but it may be risky to use it when the available dry ground was slim.

He needed to get to the center island before his opponent was able to make a move. Channeling chakra to his feet, Zinan took off for the island at full speed. He had always been naturally gifted with being lighter on his feet, as well as being able to react to things quicker than someone else of his experience. Sometimes, talent does aid a shinobi in their duties. He knew that he might not be able to get to the island before his opponent made an appearance, but in the six seconds it took him to make it to the island, he knew that it would be a difficult thing for his opponent to get an eye on the surroundings and be able to track his movement.

Zinan felt the firmer impact of solid ground and slid to a halt. He knew that there was no place to hide, but he knelt down nonetheless. He reached into his equipment pouch and pulled out three shuriken. He tied the end of the spool of wire to the center of one of the shuriken. He did not remove the spool from his pouch, however, and did not cut the wire from it. He had essentially limited the shuriken to a range of just over fifteen meters. He held all three shuriken between the closed fingers of his left hand. With his right, he pulled out a handful of makibishi spikes and scattered them between him and the island that he assumed his opponent would appear on, leaving ten painfully pointed barbs pointing skyward. He then drew a rusty tanto from its sheath and prepared for his opponent's arrival.

This is going to be a rough fight.... he thought grimly. He felt the glands in his forearms pulse as they produced the web that his clan was known for. He had been hoping that his opponent was not from the Village Hidden in the Leaves, so that his clan's web production would be a surprise. However, when he saw the matches announced, he grimaced. Not only was his opponent from Konohagakure, but she was an Aburame as well. He scowled at the thought; his clan despised the Aburames for overshadowing them in the history of the Hidden Leaf Village.

Over the roar of the crowd, a murmur begins, whispers questioning the quiet arena as a combatant stands alone awaiting the beginning of their match. As the clock winds down, a Konoha ANBU operative descends into the arena, left hand raising as he begins to speak.

"Aburame, Kanro has failed to appear and is disqualified! Congratulations to our winner, Zinan!"

Zinan sighed and stood to his feet. He slumped his shoulders forward and shook his head at the ground. He stabbed the tip of his tanto into the ground in disgust. Just like an Aburame! Not only did they make me waste my energy here, but they made me and the Hidden Leaf Village look like fools.... Zinan viewed this as an insult to not only himself, but to his entire clan. Clearly, this Aburame did not think that Zinan and the Chunin Exams were worth her time and attention.

Zinan looked down at the three shuriken in his hand. He ran a finger through the holes of all three while he steamed with anger. He untied the metal wire from the one shuriken and stowed it and the three throwing stars in his equipment pouch. The Kumonosu genin stalked to each makabishi and plucked them from the ground. He carefully wrapped the full lot back into the off-white cheese cloth that he kept them in. After stuffing them back into his equipment pouch as well, he stomped over to where he plunged his tanto into the dirt and yanked it free. He wiped the dirt off on his.pants before resheathing it in his shoulder sheath. He pressed a hand to his lower back to.ensure that his other tanto was still in place and hidden from view.

Only then did the angsty man acknowledge the crowd. Despite the murmur that was running though the crowd, there were still many people cheering for him. Zinan feebly lifted and arm and balled fist into the air. He forced a small for a moment before letting it go when he turned to the ANBU Operative.  The masked shinobi nodded to Zinan before disappearing from the arena. With another wave to the crowd, Zinan disappeared as well.
