Battle on the bridge:

Nova's first trial had finished quickly, however anticlimactically. She had been so nervous and anxious about the first fight, and after ending only moments in Nova felt...unsatisfied. Her pent up emotions had no release and it caused them to build up even more for the upcoming second round. She was being escorted by a proctor to the arena, outside of the city in an area of cliffs. The morning was cool against her cheeks, a slight mist in the air. Nova sat upright in her puppet, legs strapped in to place inside Kurogokegamu. The silent pair approached from the east, the sun coming from the horizon behind them. Kurogokegamu's metal legs clicking against the ground was the only noise besides the wind rushing between the cliffs as the path ascended quickly. Climbing the steep incline, the mist started to clear in the thinner air though the mist down in the valleys between the cliffs remained thick, the sun casting a bizarre long shadow from Nova sitting inside her puppet. The path narrowed and soon the cliff was only as wide as the path, and they approached a wide metal gate with stone barriers continuing on either side off into the misty abyss below. Reaching the gate she stopped just before it and the proctor nodded, turned, then retreated. “Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to round two of the chuunin exams. In this combat Nova Makato will be facing off against Misao Shogo. After counting down from three, the gates will open and combat will begin”, the announcer from somewhere off in the abyss, his voice reverberating off the cliffsides. Nova felt a slight rush of adrenaline as she tried to mentally prepare herself yet again. “Three... Two... One... BEGIN!”

The metal gate raised slowly as a pulley system grinded away, and Kurogokegamu lowered itself to the ground and skittered under as soon as there was enough space. Emerging from the gate Nova was met with the sting of a cold wind against her cheek coming from the north. Her hair streamed sideways with the gust, teal tips shining brightly with the sun behind them. Nova was glad she had dressed comfortably warm for the days fight. A dusty rose pink loose knit sweater hung to her knees over a pair of charcoal leggings, and on her feet she wore nothing but a fuzzy sock as she had no intention of getting out of her puppet and walking.

The wind tore through the canyon and Nova now noticed that she was no longer on the cliff itself, but rather a long bridge that extended from one side of the valley to the next. The bridge was composed of a light grey stone brick with a rough texture to it. The ancient grout looked unstable and the whole bridge looked as though it might crumble if one were too rough on it. Far across the bridge, Nova was able to make out a shape coming through the gate on the opposite side. This “Misao Shogo” she knew dreadfully little about. She was armed with no other knowledge than her recently learned name and vague memory of watching a trial of a girl with red hair. Nova took a deep breath and slid down into her puppet and closed the hatch on top, locking the several latches there. Adjusting the bands around her legs and torso, she wiggled to ensure she was tightly in place. One hand had emerald chakra threads from each fingertip connecting to various parts of the interior of her puppet, The other she fiddled around with her ammo compartment by her knee. Nova pressed her fingers to the sticky web shot that was in a capsule for her cannon and channeled a bit of chakra to be stored within. After pulling her hands from that and stopping the chakra flow she picked up one of the other three items she had stored there and slid it into the ammo reservoir for the cannon and heard it click into place.

Nova inhaled deeply, then exhaled while sending a small burst of chakra through her fingertips and puppet threads into the puppet itself. Her eyes slid shut and her ears fell deaf to the sound of wind roaring against the outside of her puppet, and her vision lit up from the perspective of the puppets crystal eyes. From either side she could see the barbed metal legs curving up above her then sharply into the ground. Nova noticed that the bridge was fairly wide though the edges seemed to sag slightly under their own weight. Staying toward the center of the bridge Kurogokegamu sprinted, covering nine meters a second and reaching a small pagoda like structure in the center with a cone shaped roof that was no more than ten meters across. Reaching it in a matter of seconds Kurogokegamu used its barbed legs to scale two of the supports of the coverings and stood on the top of the pointed roof. Metal barbs cracked and scratched the tiles sending a handful smashing to the ground as the puppet settled into place with a tight grip on the building. Sights of the web cannon were pointed down the bridge watching for her opponents approach, ready to fire the loaded ammo should they come within 20 meters of the pagoda. Nova settled into place within the puppet against the cushions, warm against the cold air by being inside, and prepared herself for the possibility of a long battle.

Misao sat contemplating, long before the match was about to begin. She reveled in the quiet, the quiet let her think it let her plan, however their was not much of anything she could plan. She had no idea who she was facing, yet alone where of the arena's it would take place. She had tried asking one of the proctors only to be told it was classified until they were on the way. She stood and looked over her gear again. Something was bothering her, She couldn't quite put her finger on it. So far the exams had been anything but routine many genin had already dropped out the others were doing even better than she had anticipated, That in itself gave gave her a low level uneasiness.

The Procter motioned and she walked slowly out of the waiting area into a long hallway leading to a cliff. As she stepped out onto the path her clothes flickering around her like candlelight due to the wind. 'A bit chilly...' She thought as a chill went through her, the cold wasn't enough to slow her down but it was enough to be uncomfortable in the wind. They had reached the gate and the Procter made a motion for her to enter. “Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to round two of the chunnin exams. In this combat Nova Makato will be facing off against Misao Shogo. After counting down from three, the gates will open and combat will begin. Three... Two... One... BEGIN!” It was all on her now as the gate slammed shut behind her. "Ok Misao, its all on you!"

Misao frowned, and looked at the bridge and bit her lip. On top of the pagoda in the middle was what looked to be a giant spider on top of it. 'Why does it have to look so creepy, well better safe then sorry..' Misao had came to three possibility's, The first was genjutsu, and as terrifying as that possibility was on a bridge, the other two choices wasn't in her favor either. If it was a puppet then the puppet user could be anywhere on the bridge, if it was a summon it would be two on one. She decided to play it safe and used a kai just to make sure it wasn't a genjutsu. The spider in the center did not disappear. 'Great so its not a genjutsu..., thats one theory down. To find out which of the two remaining choices of what it could be I have to get closer, the only problem is that spider is already at the middle. If I go the normal way I will make an easy target.' Misao sighed and decided to take it slow, she had only moved a few feet onto the bridge when she noticed how fragile the bridge looked as she walked, like it was barely standing. It was then her idea came to her, If she could not approach from a normal way she would have to close the gap a different way. Then she turned slightly to hide her hands from view. She didn't know how far whatever she was facing could see but she was not about to slip up. She pulled out a flash bomb and threw it as far as she could at her opponent. She knew she could not throw it too far, however it was all she needed, she closed her eyes until the flash bomb went off and weaved the signs for the Bunshin no Jutsu and made three clones, all charging forward through the blinding white light that the bomb had given off, all clones along with herself zig zagging along in an attempt to make sure her opponent was distracted. 'I better be careful, I have to close the distance, find out what im facing and hit it or my opponent from a place they wont have clear view, This bridge isn't in the best shape so Ill just use the super natural walking to make sure I stay firmly on it.' She thought nearing her opponent and activating the super natural walking so she could make sure she didn't fall.

Nova saw the girl approach, red hair streaming in the wind. Misao stopped for a moment in the center of the bridge and seemed to survey the bridge and stared at her, almost looking like she was trying to shake a feeling. Turning her face against the wind, the girl fiddled with something tucked away from Nova's view, before a burst of bright light erupted several meters in front of the spot that the figure once stood. A white streak blurred Nova's vision through her puppet and she turned slightly to shake the blur from her eyes. Though she was not stunned, she had lost sight of her opponent for far longer than she would have liked. A dark circle seemed to stay in her vision, and while not impairing her vision horribly it was somewhat annoying. The cloud billowing across the misty gorge signified the flash bomb that Misao had made effective use of. Now instead of the one redhead running across the bridge towards her, a quartet of them sprinted towards her zig-zaging between each other in attempts to confuse her. Nova was familiar with this practice, though in many different forms. The first time had almost ended her life. As she had learned to do,  she started at the feet of the approaching girls, keeping an eye on the only one that would have a shadow of its own cast long behind it and the soles of her feet would slap solidly against the ground.

The Puppets gaze focused on the one with the shadow as Misao sprinted towards her with her trio of clones. They circled around the pagoda trying to surround her, the real one coming from the outside edge of the bridge from Kurogokegamu's left side. The puppet spun on the pagoda, its legs clattering against the shingles sending more crashing to the floor. As the Misao with a shadow neared the pagoda, twenty meters away from it still, Nova launched the ammo that was loaded from her position aloft the structure. Nova was able to aim slightly downwards from her vantage point and a mass of wire came barreling out of the mouth of the cannon. It spun of its own accord in the breeze that flew with rather than against it. Just five meters out from Nova and just a second left to react as the razor wire web as it flew through the air at fifteen meters a second through the air until it reached its target, the mass of wires spread out to its full size of twelve meters fully across. The razor sharp threads very close together, each of the spirals a third of a meter apart and each of the spokes of the web no more than the same distance. Weights on the edges would carry the web forward, bottom connecting to the ground first four meters in front of the girls feet toward Nova, and sticking there. The upper edge would swing down with the momentum carrying it forward and stick there to where it landed on the stone. Each thin wire so close together in the center of the web that would strike the girl should she not be able to escape the nets grasp would deal quarter inch wounds upon impact, slicing deeper if pulled against. After the launch of the first piece of ammo, Nova would load another into its place, clicking as it settled in.

Nova was prepared to fire the next ammo should the girl move to avoid the first projectile by moving to either side. Shot at the same speed as before, she would shoot it centered five meters in front of whichever direction she would go. Should the girl somehow avoid by dodging backwards, Nova would be prepared to jump forward rather than shooting the loaded ammo.

Misao was almost at the pagoda when the spider launched what looked to be a net of razor wire came flying at her, not at her clones. With only a split second to react to the net she knew she would not be able to dodge so easy, She knew if she dodged to the side she would have no were to go and if she went forward she would get caught. She took the option and dodged the net to the right. The net wrapped around her lower half and Her Bunshin had been all but ignored so she knew her opponent could see through it, , However she had an Idea. 'If I cant use the Bushin one way I will another!' She thought sending the clones not to confuse but to block her opponents vision  long enough to get out of the net and for her to make it to the Pagoda.

She waited until her bushin made it to the pagoda before pulling out a smoke bomb intent to make sure she wasn't target practice until she could make it out of the net and to the pagoda. Before she could use the bomb though, parts of the bridge started falling from both sides the section she was on barely spared from plummeting.  Intent on not wasting anymore time on the death trap of a bridge she was on she threw the smoke grenade at her opponent to attempt to make it to the pagoda. Just as the smoke started she Used the Henge no Jutsu to make herself smaller to slip out of the net. Her lower body was covered in cuts that was bleeding and stung to move. The cuts would slow her down so she also used her healing seal once she had wiggled out the now loose net and stood up. As her legs was healing she started a bit slower to get to the pagoda through the smoke and clones hoping it was enough.  If she made it to the Pagoda she would have options.

Battle Mod Interjection: you may not use transformation to reduce damage from an attack like this nor escape from a bet which requires c rank strength to escape as it isn't a defensive technique. Misao has 24 hours from the posting of this ruling to edit or Nova will be allowed to auto hit.

Ruling: given the distance between the two combatants and the stats Misao has, I am ruling that Misao gets to dodge to the right but the bottom half still gets caught in the razor wire web. You may edit to reflect this, but there is no way you could have dodged at your stats.

The real Misao sprung to her right as the net flew towards her, and though she was quick the net was just too big to avoid entirely. As the girl has begun her attempt to retreat from the webs descent on her, Nova saw her turn to her right and launched the next ammo five meters in front of where she started from. The razor wire from the first shot wrapped around her legs several times, the sharp threads slicing her skin several times over and sending her sprawling to the floor. Her legs looked as though they had gone through a shredder and dripped with crimson blood, staining the wire itself and the stone below her.

The clones that had tried to fool Nova before approached the pagoda and stepped in front of her view, trying to obscure her vision of her target, but her attack had already been set and fired, the shot passing  right through the intangible clone. A second and a half after the first web struck the second landed its own blow. Another shot of razor web. This time centered just a single meter behind where it struck her, this time each weighted end stretched across the ground and pinning her underneath it. The wires were closer together in the center of the web, each cut would be less than an inch apart there and over her entire body. The outer edge of the web swung tight over the edge of the bridge, weighted ends binding to the underside of the bridge and holding the web taut, and Misao was pinned only a meter away from the edge after it had started to crumble away. The girl would not have much time to escape from this second web, and if she struggled against it, the wires would did deeper into her flesh.

A crack of lightning struck down upon the bridge, a black and white shinobi of the cloud standing there silently, as though a quiet monolith of greyscale palette. The man held crackling raiton in his hand which then refined around his fingers as he bent down and gripped the web of wires about the body of Misao. With little effort and exertion, the shinobi broke the wires completely with the cutting power of his jutsu, freeing the now bloodied and lacerated body of the young shinobi. With that part done, the cloud ninja deactivated his jutsu and moved to lift Misao up in a cradle, speaking in a chakra magnified voice to those who would have the ears to listen. "This battle is being cut short in favour of the genin, Nova Makato representing Kirigakure no Sato!" The shinobi turned and nodded to Nova before he turned away with Misao, walking to the edge of the bridge, setting her down for the medical ninja to approach and retrieve her. Another battle had been decided and the shinobi was gone with the thunder clap just as he'd arrived.

Ruling: I am calling the battle in favour of Nova for the fact that the wires would be hard for anyone to escape without using any sort of defensive jutsu initially. Having been caught in the first web of wires, Misao would be unable to escape the second round of wire web sent her way, which could prove fatal if struggled against. You may make your exit posts now.

Nova's quick succession of razor web projectiles was the final blow in the battle between herself and Misao. A older more experience shinobi would step in after the webs trapped the girl in place and with an experienced hand sliced the wires from her body and carried her to the gate from which she entered and laid her there to be attended to by others. Nova ended the jutsu to see through Kurogokegamus eyes and unlatched the lid to sit upright. Kurogokegamu skittered down the pagoda and towards the girl, stopping a few steps before reaching her and lowered the puppets hull to the ground and let the threads dissipate. Clumsily, Nova crawled out the top of her puppet and slid to the ground, the wooden leg thudding against the ground. The wind made her hair and sweater flutter to the side and, and she stood tentativly on the bridge as her foot only had a fuzzy pink sock protecting it from the cold and rough stone. She walked slowly over to the girl and kneeled over her to try to help heal as much of the damage she had delt as she could. She channeled the green chakra to her palms and hovered them over her Misaos body, focusing first on the ones that she though would have been the most painful. “Thank you for the battle Misao, sorry for any injury I have caused. Perhaps we could meet again in a more peaceful setting” Nova said softly as she focused on her chakra flowing through her palms, and she would continue kneeling and doing so until an older shinobi emerged from the now open gate to take over in the process of healing all of her wounds.

Misao was stunned, one second she was sure she was about to get hit in the face with a razor net, the next it was being intercepted by an older shinobi. To say the least she was disappointed. As the older shinobi scooped her up she began working on healing her bloody legs with her seal as well as her hovering hands jutsu to heal even faster. Although she had lost the fight, it didn't mean she was not going to get promoted, as she knew that everything would have to be reviewed before they would make a decision. Once she was layed down on the edge of the bridge she sat up to try to get a better angle at which to heal, the wounds closing slowly before her eyes. The combination of her healing seal and her hovering hands was working together sped things up considerably.

Misao was in for another surprise as the black spider puppet walked up and a hatch opened on top to reveal an older girl dressed in what would seem would be lounge wear instead of anything for combat. She didn't say anything as Nova started to help with the healing, with the two of them working with three different healing jutsu she estimated her legs would be fine before the medical shinobi arrived. “Thank you for the battle Misao, sorry for any injury I have caused. Perhaps we could meet again in a more peaceful setting”   Nova said as the two continued their work. Misao was surprised to hear the other shinobi so polite, it was a welcome change of pace. "Peace of cake, it seems we both know a bit of medical jutsu so I wont be down for long, and yes I would love to meet again, maybe for food."  She said to the older girl as they worked. A more experienced shinobi wearing the medic designation ran over and took over from Nova, The shinobi was a bit shocked to see how fast the two had healed Misao's legs however, they still didn't want Misao to walk on them until they had looked her over. The medical shinobi scooped her up carefully, her small form cradled as they left the bridge for the hospital.
