Kejido was in need of a partner to take his rank up mission for his clan with. It was against the rules for one genin to take a C rank mission alone these days. At least from the administration building. The restriction was a bother but the clan had not changed its ways. If anything they found the challenge more worth while. So he had been approved within the clan to take this mission to prove his rank up request was well suited. However it would be up to him to find someone to take the mission with him. That in itself would be a challenge. After all this mission didn't offer any official payment. Along with that it would go towards their general rank up requirements but that was hardly enough to convince someone to go out of their way when they could just get paid instead for doing the same thing without him. Luckily he knew someone in the village that was a little unsure of himself. With the administration building being so busy a forged signature could be overlooked. Or so he hoped. He knew the kids full name and was going to use it. Just keep him out of the loop for a while if he could. Who named their kid after currency anyway?

Still after he had filled out the forms, forged his signature when no one was looking and purposefully waited for it to be busy. He managed to get approval for the two of them to go on the mission. Oh he was a clever boy indeed. Now that he had played the administration building it was time to play Ryo. The young man in his squad that he just knew he could manipulate given the chance. How to go about it though? He had a bit of an idea but he needed to present it well to the young man. So he had gone to his address in person. Dressed in his usual uniform but this time with a small backpack on his right shoulder. He would stand outside of the young mans door before letting his silver gaze slip around. Taking notes of his surroundings and trying to dictate what would help him convince the boy to go for a lengthy walk with him. He didn't seem to value power nor did he have much confidence. Kejido couldn't approach this like a mission. He needed something more. So the backpack would do well.

Within the back pack was a couple bottles of water, a couple of sodas' and a package of hot dogs with hot dog buns. He had a plan at least. He was going to convince the young man to come to a barbecue with him. Something just the two of them could do just to get to know each other away from the noise of the village. It was a fairly brilliant plan. He just needed Ryo to go along with it. Perhaps he with some luck it would be so simple. Still he would take in a breath and steady himself. He knew what he was capable of after all. All he needed to do was use his usual charm. Still he would feel the need for this to work weighing on him. Should he just be honest with the boy? No. Kejido had already deceived the administration building. It was too late to turn back now. Instead he would square his shoulders and put on a kind smile. Just a friend stopping by looking to go for a hike for the day. That was all. His white gloved hand rose up to knock on the boys door. This was going to work.

Ryo

Ryo

D-rank
Ryo was sitting in his kitchen early in the morning. As much as he would like to sleep late into the evening, it was often hard to do within his foster home. He was one of the oldest there besides his foster parents, with the other residents being barely over the age of eight. With such young kids living in one house, mornings were always hectic. The sound caused by kids clambering up and down the hallway next to the door to Ryo's room. Slightly ironic, isn't it? Ryo couldn't really complain to his foster parents, however, since sleeping so late was bad for you. Despite this, waking up early never felt refreshing for Ryo. He usually woke up half dead, with crusty and itchy eyes along with a throat drying than the land of wind. This condition of his was always forced upon him, with no other remedy besides waiting for his body to recover. This was also quite hard with the annoying children around, but he seemed to be able to manage it by keeping to himself and reading a book while ignoring everything else.

This is what Ryo was doing this morning. Already dressed in his standard button up and slacks, he was basically ready to leave after putting his shoes on. He wasn't necessarily planning on going anywhere, these clothes were just what he always wore. His lack of style was almost sad, really. While reading a book about various chess tactics and opening, Ryo detached himself from reality. He played out the scenarios in his head, pawn to D4 and knight to C3. A standard opening popular among almost all players. Next, to the Sicilian, this was almost the most popular. Chess was a strange thing for Ryo, it was the only thing at the moment that he truly dedicated himself to. He didn't really play that many people, so he wasn't sure how good he was. With his knowledge of various tactics, however, he saw himself as pretty skilled. He looked forward to the day that he actually went against someone besides himself.

Suddenly, there was a knock at the nearby to that invaded Ryo's thoughts. The kitchen was positioned by the front door, and it seemed like Ryo was the only one who seemed to notice that it needed to be answered. Reluctantly, he sat his book on the table to hold his place before getting up and walking towards the door. He said nothing as he approached, and slowly opened the door when he reached it, wondering who would knock so early. When he opened the door, he was greeted with Haishi Kejido. Ryo's eyes blew up as he saw the man, immediately shutting the door after they made anything close to eye contact. A classic move, really. Used by girls when their crush knocks on their door, Ryo wasn't that much different. His mind raced as pink appeared on his cheeks. Why was he at his house? How did he know where he lived? What did he want? Various question filled Ryo's head as he tried to figure out why a handsome man from his dreams was at his door. After no more than ten seconds, Ryo managed to cool down. He decided it was best for him to ask Kejido himself. After some deep breaths and some slaps to the cheek to collect himself, he swung the door open once and leaned against the door frame before uttering the words,

"Ah, uh, ahem... Kejido, hey! What's up?"

He shot a smile after he spoke, acting as if nothing was going on. Inside, he tried his hardest to retain his composure, but it wasn't going too well. His cheeks were still slightly pink from seconds earlier, and his voice had an overconfident ring too it, which was the result of Ryo trying to cover up his nervousness. It wasn't much of an attempt, but it was almost a good try. While waiting for a response, Ryo took him the man's feature once more. Dark hair that suited him perfectly, framing his handsome face perfectly, as his uniform fit him perfectly. Almost everything about him was perfect. With these at hand, Ryo didn't really take notice of the backpack on his shoulders.

Kejido could hear someone moving on the other side of the door for the moment after he knocked. They sounded like they were taking their time about it. Which was understandable but ever so slightly annoying. He had places to be today and just enough time to be there. At least if he wanted to move at a comfortable pace and avoid the main road which was likely being watched. His plans required that they be leaving soon. It was only a good hour walk for them which for a shinobi shouldn't even break a sweat even over the terrain they would be visiting. Still his silver eyes shifted to the door as the subtle shuffling made its way to the other side. Lightweight for an adult. Not heavy set but a decent stride. Solid steps which suggested male. A rather fit young adult male. Well if he wasn't mistaken his luck was looking up. With those things in mind he was willing to bet that he was going to be greeting by his very quarry. So when the door opened he smiled charmingly only to make eye contact, register the boys surprise and have the door slammed on him all in the same moment.

Kejido would raise an eye brow at the behavior. Had he scared the boy in some way or was this just how he registered surprises? It was certainly odd behavior. Very few times had he been greeted so rudely. Still he would compose himself by running a gloved hand through his hair. Taking a breath as he waited. He could remain patient he reminded himself. Not everyone was as open and as accustomed to random social visits as another. It was just a common thing for his clan to visit since they all lived in their compound so close together. Still he supposed he could have considered some other customs. Perhaps asking permission to come over. However as it stood his manipulation of the administration building yet again was impulsive and a little risky. He needed them to be out of town before anyone brought it up to Ryo. Perhaps someone that knew him and would comment on the kid taking such a dangerous mission. Time was always the enemy. So he painted on a face of patience and a smile with the anxiety and pressure being pushed to the side. Ryo was malleable. Whatever Ryo had planned for him it wouldn't take much convincing.

Still after almost a dozen seconds the door would open once more. Ryo stood there looking a little flustered. Kejido would glance for what little he could see with the boy in the doorway. Had a girl over he didn't want Kejido knowing about perhaps? That could certainly complicate things. However his nose didn't pick up the scent of perfume. If anything it smelled like there were young children living there. A distinct scent difference from a household with mostly adults. A strange thing since Ryo always looked well dressed. One might expect someone living with children to be more run down. Still Ryo would greet him and Kejido's smile would turn slightly into a smirk. If there were kids within of course Ryo would come along. Who didn't want to get away from children? Still Kejido would reply with a small smile. A soft tone on his lips.

"Come my friend. You and I are going on a small adventure. I have already packed us provisions and we will be back by tonight. Get your shoes on now hup hup. I am already heading to the gate."

He wasn't asking. He never seemed to be asking for anything. Rather insisting and assuming others would follow him. Yet his confidence was infectious. As if whatever he had planned was just designed to turn out. As if the laws of the universe could bend around him. Even so he was true to his word. He would wink his right eye before turning without waiting for a response. Any pleas for him to reconsider would fall on a turned back. This was to be on his terms after all. He had noted that Ryo was already dressed in his usual after all. Throwing on a pair of shoes and falling in line should be a quick thing. Still Kejido practiced not looking over his shoulder. Not showing any doubt that his instructions would be followed. Only slowing his pace a little so it was difficult to notice. His ears straining as he listened for the boy behind him. Of course he wouldn't go anywhere without the lad. He needed him for the mission and in a way that made some sense. He had a plan though and he was certain Ryo would play along unwittingly. If he found out about it later than Kejido would explain himself then after the mission was done. After all his purposes would be served and he was certain he would be fully capable of talking his way out of any trouble he may find himself in.

Kejido's reaction to Ryo was nice, considering that Ryo shut the door on his face only seconds before. As a smile appeared on Kejido's lips, Ryo was taken away to the point that he didn't hear Kejido's words. Was Kejido completely oblivious to what he did to Ryo? When Ryo was with him, it felt like his dream suddenly became reality. Despite Ryo's previous engagements with other people, Ryo didn't go out to find Kejido and push himself into his life. Instead, it was the opposite. Kejido pursued Ryo and pushed himself into his life. This never happened before now, and Ryo was rather shocked by it. Was this the man that was going to change his life and possibly become apart of it in future? He couldn't say. He never had anything romantic happen to in the past, so why would that change now? In the end, it was up to Kejido. Even though Ryo's mind was close to making the decision, he couldn't change the way Kejido felt. Was it even possible for Kejido to feel the feelings that Ryo was feeling?

The words Kejido spoke were even more surprising to Ryo. He simply stated that the two of them were going to go on an adventure. It wasn't anything close to a request, if anything, it was a command. After telling Ryo to put his shoes on, Kejido winked and turned around before walking away. Even without the wink, Ryo's heart fluttered. If it were anyone but Ryo, they might've been insulted by a command like this, feeling as if they were just someone who was to be controlled by noble military man. However, for someone like Ryo, it did the opposite. For someone as handsome and as confident as Kejido to make him feel like he didn't have any option but to listen to him made him feel... well, wanted. No one before really enjoyed Ryo's presence. With his lazy attitude, he often pushed people away. This could be figured out by the fact that Ryo was a nineteen-year-old man who still resided in an orphanage. Kejido's confidence resonated with Ryo, making him feel like he could change the world.

Not long after Kejido started walking away, Ryo would reach down to grab his shoes that were already near the open door. Not even bothering to sit down, Ryo forced them onto each foot as he stumbled around. Before running out the door, Ryo looked down the hallway behind them. His foster mother was still in the house and she already told him that he was supposed to pick up errands today. It didn't take long for him to make the choice to drop those plans entirely and run off towards Kejido, slamming the door behind him. The only change in his appearance now was his shoes. The pouch he always had on his belt was left behind in the confusion that getting ready for this adventure was.

After some pattering of his feet against the stone, he managed to catch up with the military man. He wasn't that far away from the door they met, but the sudden sprint still left Ryo slightly winded. He didn't run that much in quite a long time. This day was different, though. Upon reaching Kejido, Ryo slowed his pace to match Kejido's walking. Breathing deep and as flustered as before, he opened his mouth to ask one question, as if nothing else about this situation mattered to him.

"Phew... So, uh... Where are we going?"

Kejido would walk down the road calmly and at a slow pace. The bag over one shoulder as his eyes looked to the sky. It was nice out he supposed. His boots crunching along the stone rode as random pebbles from worn spots came underfoot. Still he continued on as he listened behind him. In the distance he could hear a door shut and he couldn't help but to smile to himself. Ryo was quickly becoming a reliable friend of his even if he didn't know the half of it. Still it wasn't Kejido's intention to be a heart breaker. It just happened to be who he was as an individual. He instinctively knew how to attract people and worked at doing just that. Those who were attracted to you be it for your looks, your power or your personality valued you. If there was anything one like Kejido would strive for it was to be highly valued. The more people seeing him as valuable the better. It was perhaps why he would one day make monolith if only to be one of the nations most celebrated fighters. It was his dream and this was step one of getting that far. Still he could hear the foot falls he was listening for behind him and approaching quickly. It appeared Ryo was certainly focused on this goal of Kejido's today. The pace was impressive and even if the kid was a little out of breath when he caught up Kejido still replied with a smile.

"We are going outside the walls for a hike. To go eat away from all the noise. An adventure my friend."

If Ryo didn't ditch him then he would walk and talk with him about just basic things all the way to the gates. Foods the liked and events they enjoyed attending. Kejido was a sucker for sweets but not chocolate as often as most others with a sweet tooth. He preferred gummier candies. Enjoying the soft and chewy sweet flavors. As for the events he enjoyed, he attended a lot of the monolith fights. Watching them on television if he couldn't actually make it to the match. He would actually actively listen to any of Ryo's responses until the reached the gate. He gave Ryo the excuse that he needed to say hi to an old friend at the gate. A bit of a private manner and would have him wait well out of listening distance. Keeping his back to him as he produced the mission papers at the gate and got clearance to go. With that done he waved to the gate guards to sell it before setting off with his friend. Heading a good beat path to the east of the village. Taking the main walking path up into the mountains for ease of a hike. They would only walk about an hour and a half until they were at a point that the village was a distant view from there. Just a spec of lights.

It was there that Kejido would set up a fire and collect a couple of thin sticks. Telling Ryo to take a seat while he prepared everything. Typically they wouldn't use a fire while out on a mission but Kejido had noted the walking paths that broke off from the main trail to the left about half an hour back. There was a series of hills and rock faces between that position and their current one. If someone detected the fire out here it was highly unlikely they would be related to his objective. Still Kejido would easily get a fire going and with Ryo they would roast hot dogs over the fire if Ryo at those and put them in the hot dog buns. Eating to their hearts content and drinking soda and water as they just spoke about their experiences in the academy versus what they had expected as a genin and how different it was. Kejido had been put through some serious education at a young age and with that in mind the exams at the academy had seemed like child's play. However he had been forced to not actually pursue the career until he turned twenty by his clan. To experience childhood as they called it. However his time as a genin and his responsibilities were exactly as he had been brought up to believe they were. He would listen for anything Ryo wished to share as well. Though he seemed to steer the topics and take up plenty of time.

When the sun began to set time had flown while they enjoyed the peace. It wasn't often that one just went outside the walls to enjoy the mountain range and nature. Kejido didn't seem to dress like one who spent much time outside the walls but his experience in prepping a camp was just all part of his training. Something his clan brought them up with if they were ever to have to spend days pursuing a target or traveling as a scout for a VIP. For the moment it had served his purpose of wishing to approach his target from the side away from the village in the dark of night. He would bring it up that it was getting late and it was still too early in the year to spend the night outside without freezing. He would smother the fire with dirt and clean up their mess into the bag before strapping it over his shoulders. Looking back to the road before contemplating how to go about this. His silver eyes took to glancing to Ryo as he spoke up once more. Still playing the part of an innocent genin stumbling upon what the mission needed. He could make up a story though. Something believable. So he spoke up as he smiled before using his thumb to indicate the approximate direction where the path breaking from the road had led to earlier.

"Hey I think I saw a column of smoke or two that way earlier. There aren't any registered clan compounds out that way that I know of. Lets take a different way back and investigate. Who knows, we might stumble on something interesting the village would want to know about."

To some, it would be obvious that Kejido was simply using Ryo for his own gain. Even with this being the case, the young man would still act oblivious. Usually, he would be able to spot something like this, with his experience with bullying during his time in the academy and the orphanage. Now, however, his mind was fogged by his feelings. He forgot everything he learned only because the man manipulating him was overly attractive. It was kind of sad for someone like himself to be dragged along like he was, but for a man like Ryo who never really experienced anything positive in his lifetime, with romance being out of the question. For someone like Kejido to show up and pull Ryo into his life, there wasn't much he could do to fight against it. He never really noticed women, and Kejido seemed to be an expert at charming them. This proved slightly ominous since it foreshadowed events that were bound to happen. Even then, Ryo couldn't really think about anything else besides the man he was with at that moment. Was this really what attracted him? It was bound to crash and burn, but Ryo still chose to go with the flow until that inevitably happened. The train just left the station and yet it was already reaching the end of its tracks.

When Ryo caught up to Kejido, he was greeted with a smile. Kejido responded by stating that they were to go on an adventure, to get away from the noise. This resonated with Ryo quite a bit. The young man left the village often to visit landmarks such as the Rockhenge or Gisei Lake to escape his responsibilities and have a moment of solitude. He didn't hate interaction with others, but he did need his breaks every now and then. With Kejido and him going on an adventure, would it classify as a date or only a mere outing of friends? One was less likely than the other, but Ryo was still unsure. Almost immediately after Kejido's response, Ryo's cheeks would turn slightly more red as he looked the opposite direction from Kejido, not only to hide his flushed face but also to avoid the eye contact. Something like that would just be too much. Ryo managed to cough up a response, but it was as short as usual.

"Well, uh... I look forward to it"

His voice showed his happiness and nervous together as it stuttered and squicked as it left his mouth. He was looking forward to it, even though it probably wasn't what he was expecting. Despite the inevitable let down their relationship would turn out being, this was Ryo's time to actually connect with another person, and possibly make a friend in the process. They were squadmates, so that had to happen eventually, didn't it? As they walked to the gates, they talked about things like their favorite foods. Ryo explained his liking for bitter foods and salt. The salt was an odd one, and it was even weirder once Ryo explained that he almost liked to put salt on everything. While too much salt was extremely possible, almost every food could use at least a bit. As a contrast, Kejido explained his interest in sweet foods. For someone as charming as him, it seemed to fit the military man perfectly. Another opposite from Ryo was Kejido's enjoyment of fights. Ryo enjoyed reading and playing games such as chess where tactics played a huge part. Strategies ran rapidly in Ryo's mind, which was bound to carry on when he was to fight against someone. Upon arriving at the gate, Kejido would leave to talk to a friend. This wasn't suspicion to Ryo as he continued to think that nothing was unusual. He'd stand there and wait patiently, and eventually walk through the gates once Kejido returned.

After a bit of walking through the nearby mountains, the two of them would stop and set up a small camp, but without the tents. Kejido would sit down as Kejido set everything up, leaving Ryo free of any responsibility. Was this part of his charm? If it was, it seemed to work wonders. For someone to set up a date for you like this, it was a great feeling. Kejido revealed what was in his backpack once the fire was made, handing out hot dogs and some waters to Ryo. As they cooked their food and ate, they talked about some personal subjects, causing the whole experience to become a sharing session. Kejido discussed how he became a shinobi and how his clan played a big part in his drive as a ninja of Iwagakure. A noble soldier who had nothing to do other than serve his village. While slightly jealous, Ryo was glad that he didn't have to live with that sort of pressure. He was glad to have nothing pushing him from behind, allowing him to act as his own person. However, this was simply canceled out as something began pulling him from the front. As for Ryo, he decided to explain his relationship with their other squadmate, Aikiko. Upon the squad's first meeting, Kejido was bound to have noticed some of the bumps between Ryo and the little girl, and it was time someone shined a light onto that. Ryo shared how he respected Aikiko as a fellow student since she excelled above all of the other students and acted as if she had something to prove. However, he somehow managed to get bullied by someone much younger than him and didn't do anything about it. Aikiko made his life hell with her tricks, and Ryo never threw any punches back. It was really embarrassing, but Ryo talked about it without a hint of shame. It was an important detail of his life, and Kejido deserved to know about it. Their talks lasted the better part of the morning and lasted until the sun began to descend. It was a nice outing, but it was nearing its end.

Kejido cleaned everything up and smothered the fire. Again, Ryo didn't help at all, and Kejido decided to leave the work for himself. As Kejido glanced towards him, Ryo would avert his gaze again. Kejido stated that he saw some smoke earlier and that the two of them should investigate. Ryo ate this information up, as to him, Kejido didn't have a reason to lie. Ryo turned towards Kejido, keeping his gaze to the mountains over Kejido's shoulder to avoid eye contact. He responded in his simple-minded manner, his voice slow and almost full of expectation. He already spent the day with the military man, and he didn't have any interest in ending it so soon.

"Sure... We're on an adventure, right?"

Kejido would smile with happiness on the outward appearance as the young man agreed to come along for the adventure. Inwardly though he was feeling his success and wondering if he would pull this off after all. At any point had Ryo said no he would have been screwed. The boy rolling with him on this was without a doubt a necessity on this. He could manipulate other genin but the higher ups held more risk. On the other hand he wondered to himself if Ryo would have come along had this been a mission from the get go for him. Would he have come along with Kejido had Ryo known what this really was? More importantly at this point when Ryo found out would he forgive the manipulation? Probably but for now it didn't matter. He could play this part for now if only for one goal. To rank up within his clan and gain favor. He could always make it up to him later. Besides it was just a recon mission. They shouldn't get close enough to be in any real danger. At least he hoped not. If they were in any danger he would make sure to get Ryo back safely.

So he would nod before grabbing the pack with what was left and turning back down the trail. Taking his time with his footing as the sun set to be more careful now. His sharp silver eyes keeping him on the right track. Still once he located the turn in the trail he would shift into it. Moving uphill into a rocky area before finding a path leading up into the cliff sides. They would only move up that way for about ten minutes before it began to get truly dark. Beneath them in the valley lights began to appear and as their eyes adjusted with the fading light, aided with the lights within a compound hidden in the valley became apparent. A large walled off place with a large amount of men gathered within. It was difficult to count from so far away. Still he would note several things about it before a shift in the rocks some distance ahead by about twenty meters caught his attention. Just ahead of them at the top of the path was a look out. Casually drinking and seemingly ignoring his surroundings. For a moment Kejido considered engaging him but thought better of it. It was an hour back to the village and if he raised any kind of alarm they would have an entire compound after them over the course of an entire mile.

Kejido would press a finger to his own lips to indicate silence before he turned and made his way quietly back down the cliff path to the main road. He would walk in silence for a time until they were a good ten minutes from the compound before glancing at Ryo. "When we get back you should head home. It's late and they are likely worried. I will file a report. See you around bud." With that Kejido would wink before turning and dashing off in a B line for the administration building. Those ten minutes had made it so they were within eye sight of the gates. He only paused long enough to identify himself and then was gone. Heading to fill his report on the mission. To obtain his new rank within the clan and gain access to his clans training course for his new power. As excited as he was he still enjoyed the day out adventuring. He was going to sleep well that night.
