1Guard Duty [C-Rank Mission] Empty Guard Duty [C-Rank Mission] Wed Mar 29, 2017 6:45 pm

Uchiha Teru

Uchiha Teru

D-rank
What a relief it was to be assigned the duty of guarding the village gates. During the week, it was mission after mission. This was a simple one, and it was going to be a pleasant one. But, regardless of what pleasantries there would have been, Teru Uchiha readied herself for what could possibly come to the village. The hour at which she was due to guard the gates had come. As soon as darkness had fallen upon the village, the platoon responsible for the shift got into position. There were a couple others who were assigned to work with Teru, but she was not so casual with them. She paid no mind to them and let them be with finding their positions. In the center stage was Teru herself. They had to make it look like someone was watching out for the village, so she was volunteered as the one to stand at the head. Teru believed the northern section of the village would be in safe hands. She was there, and there were other fine specimen holding the fort.

It was perhaps another hour when complete darkness devoured Kirigakure. All there was to illuminate the night were lanterns throughout the village, and at the gates. They were lit one by one. Of course, the full moon and stars cast down a small portion of their light. For those who were interested in the moon and its workings, the sight was beautiful. The crickets found it to be the right time to journey out and sing their songs, and they would bless the ears of the restless souls with a relaxing lullaby. No longer were the birds chirping. They had a need for rest, unlike the ninja who guarded the gate. With the exception of the nocturnal wildlife roaming about, and the villagers exploring the night life, there was a mass of silence. If it was not for anything else outside, the silence would have been suffocating. It would have deafened her sharp ears. But, thank goodness, such a thing was not about to happen that night.

Another couple of hours passed. Teru paced from time to time to keep herself from joining in on the act of slumber. For the most part, it had worked for her. Her energy levels remained to be as high as ever, and she continued on with guarding the gates. Although, whenever she got the chance, the Uchiha would find a place and sit. It was from there that she watched the area around her. Nothing would escape her eyes. Not on her watch. And so, the night was rolling on. It was not going to be long before the sun would rise above the horizon. At that time, there would be another team of ninja to guard the gates. They would take Teru's place and allow her the time to rest until the next mission. However, there were plenty more hours before that time was to come. Teru was immersing herself in the spirit of guard duty by keeping her eyes peeled for potential invaders.

For a number of hours, there was not a face to be seen. It was nearly time for Teru's shift to be ending, and for the next group to come in. Still, there was another few hours to put into the mission, so she patiently surveyed what she could of the land beyond the gates. She did not need to put forth an unnecessary amount of energy, for there was not a single soul to push away from the village. All was clear for the time being. Well, all of that changed in a matter of minutes. Teru was on her feet the moment she saw movement in the darkness. Ninja? Wild animals? She knew not, and reached into her tool holder and pulled out a two kunai knives. The end of the night was nearing, but it was not about to end without some sort of authority being given. There was rustling and then silence followed. She was certain that something lurked out there in the dark. Teru was not, however, going to go out and investigate the matter. She was too smart for that.

Glowing eyes emerged from what had to be bushes. There were, not one, but two pairs of them. Teru narrowed her eyes and activated her Sharingan, mirroring the glowing effect. It was at that moment that her ears caught on to the deep growls of animals. To be exact, these animals were wolves. The way they hungrily grumbled was known to a good number of ninja. It was unique. But, it was the worst possible time to be approached by wolves. The moon was still out, and it would be another our before sunrise came. Normally, a wolf would avoid wandering into the village at all.... unless.... they were rabid. There was enough light for her to notice the dripping substance at the mouths of the carnivorous beasts. Yes, they were rabid. It would be best to kill them now before they harmed any unsuspecting villagers. So troublesome. She much preferred for it to be in broad daylight.

The wolves charged and howled viciously as Teru waited for them to get closer. They snapped at her legs, but she was able to move away to avoid getting bitten. Simple stabs to the face and eyes made them flinch, but they pressed on with the attack. But, the fate of a rabid animal was an easy one to remember. Death. Teru cut deeply into them with her weapons until they were unable to go on. The loss of blood did well to give the poor creatures the mercy they deserved. May they awaken to a better afterlife, she thought. Now that the wolves were dead, Teru could get on with her duty. The rest of the night went on without a hitch. And, in the next hour, sunrise had come. Teru's shift soon ended, and she was free to go and report to the higher-ups about everything that had happened that night.
