Finally, a place that felt like home. Syn lay on the soft bed fixing his gaze on the wooden ceiling above. The house felt like an extension of himself and of course it is. He had built the house using his mokuton element right before leaving Kumogakure no Sato and embarking on a life changing mission. He lay there like one who had no life in him with the blankets covering from his feet to his upper torso due to the fact that he was lost in his thoughts.

He knew that he had not much to think about but then again he remembered having pledged his loyalty to the hidden cloud village the previous day when he arrived Kumoggakure. The meeting with the Raikage could not be described as a short or long one. The factor called ‘time’ just seemed to be erased from existence and all that mattered was the Raikage and Syn. This was a new beginning for him, the name Syn, the rank of Jounin, even the new medical ninjutsu art he had learned. He felt more different, like he was in control of himself.

The rays  of the morning sun penetrated the blinds of the curtains as they shone upon him like some miner that had just discovered raw gold in a cave after days of searching. The hours had passed by so quickly that he did not even get to close his eyes but that did not matter much, he had had more nights without sleep. He finally moved and got out of bed. He walked into the kitchen to grab a cup of coffee for himself after which he emerged from there and walked into the living room to sit on the sofa. He heaved a sigh as he stared deeply into the void.

”What is your purpose?”

a voice inside of him spoke. He did not feel surprised rather he knew that it was a question worth asking. He had been through a lot and now he was finally on top, pulling the strings of his own life though he knew he was still under the Raikage and his services as a shinobi are to be provided whenever required. Still, what is his purpose. The question seemed to have no current answer. The previous lives he had lived disgusted him so much that he wanted to acquire enough power to be able to defend himself and not fall into the pit of his past. He was a weakling, unable to fight back.  He was kidnapped and brainwashed, such a terrible fate he had to face all because of his lack of power. He was never going down easily again and he knew this in himself.

He stayed indoors all day resting. His trip had been a tiresome one so he needed this rest. The sun soon went down and the darkness took over only to be ruled by the moon and thousands of stars that twinkled in the sky. He looked out his window imagining what it would be like to control that many shinobis. He had heard of two legendary puppet masters that were able to make and control human puppets and he planned on being the next, it was only a matter of time.

He felt the wind call to him as it coursed through his hair. He dressed up in his new usual clothing. A grey fitted coat, putting on his goggles, headphones and strapping his ninja belt with enough pockets to hold his ninja tools and head band. He switched on his ipod and began listening to some music as he strolled out of his home closing the door behind him. He had no idea of where he was going but he just kept walking. The streets looked quite empty as most villagers were indoors and asleep. The moon was at it’s fullest and he could feel it drawing him forward. How easy it is for humans to be controlled, he thought.

“To be a great leader, you have to be capable of dragging all your followers through hellfire and making sure each and every one of them makes it back out. You have to be their torch of light through the darkness of life and show them the path they cannot see for themselves. You have to stand up for their weaknesses and exploit their strengths. That, is what it means to be a great leader…” - Ni.

“Even more crucial than the roof of an empire, are the pillars that stand under it and hold it in place…” - Binsu.

A lonely shadow made it’s way through the empty hallways of the ANBU hideout. Eyes swiftly darting from wall to wall and - inevitably - from locker to locker. A shifty air of mystery shadowed his every step, whilst the inanimate face he wore shielded his identity from the world. His journey through the halls echoed throughout the compound, only stopping where barricaded doors were in place. The ANBU operative had only recently been assigned a new case - completely irrelevant to the Kaekio case and the Kiri captives - which was rightfully given the title of the only man that it described. Syn. Or rather, Drayglez. After walking past two dozen empty lockers he finally reached the one that contained a large envelope. It was laying underneath a small-but-heavy paper weight and beside it was a miniature stringless puppet. To the untrained eye the small figure would have looked a lot more like a doll than a puppet, but Han had seen the life-size version of the dummy in a battle he had with a puppeteer from Sunagakure. The ANBU took the file out from underneath the paperweight and with his other hand he grabbed the small figurine. He’d then slowly make his way back out of the hideout, escaping through one of the many hidden exits that decorated the compound and then head towards the Kage tower.

Inside the file was a lengthy, detailed report on a local Kumogakure shinobi formally known as Drayglez. The man’s loyalties were first devoted to Konohagakure, but for one reason or the other he left the nation and sought refuge in Kumogakure no Sato. Sanosuke was the active Kage at the time, so naturally the man was granted asylum almost immediately, and later on was officially allowed into the Kumo ranks. Syn’s case - thus far - had made Kumogakure quite the hypocritical village, considering their most recent endeavours to prevent one of their own shinobi from doing exactly what Syn had done to Konoha. However, Han couldn’t control how Sanosuke dealt with other villagers’ missing nin and his own, all he could do was give advice and religiously follow the brute’s orders. For now. Syn’s file wasn’t as extensive as he expected: the village had limited information of the runaway puppeteer, however Binsu knew another chapter of the now-puppeteer’s story. ‘Hmm, I didn’t expect you’d be the one to lose your ways kid. It’s a shame really, you would have made a great swordsman Draygglez, with proper guidance,’ Han thought to himself, as he slowly began to recollect the memories of the time when Draygglez used to pride himself as primarily a swordsman. Back before he lost his memory…

Flashback:

"We never really had a chance to test our swordsmanship the other day since we both were all about ninjutsu and playing cat and rat.. For this reason, I challenge you to a duel of bukijutsu and taijutsu. Only supplementary ninjutsu that are neither offensive or defensive are allowed. I know I don't need your reply to go on since I can see you won't back out from a fight,” Dray said, as he performed a full twist backward for a distraction as he threw four senbons at the swordsman.

The boy didn't waste any time in re-salutations and meaningless small talk. He got right to the point. He made the first move in a hurry, but before he had even landed from his backwards flip Binsu had already drawn out his Seiteki Ejji blade, which had hidden on the back of his kimono along with his Fuuma shuriken and Daken sword. The alert swordsman watched as the man threw what looked like four senbon, a pair aimed towards either of his shoulders and the other two aimed at either sides of his deltoids. Binsu was quick to evade these projectiles by simply ducking down as they soar above and behind him. At the same time as his duck Binsu managed to pull out a pair of kunai from his hidden sleeve pouches with his free hand (left hand) before quickly launching them towards the boy's own kunai. The metal tools clashed with a ring, before each was knocked away from its trajectory path and forced into a fall somewhere in between the two swordsmen.

Dray was looking for a challenge, much like he had the first time he and Binsu met. Only this time he wanted a fight strictly between blades and flesh, with minimal assistance from jutsus. He wanted a fair match, swordsman against swordsman, only it would be far from fair so long as Binsu was his opponent…

End Flashback:

Han had now found himself perched on top of the guy’s house. On top of Syn’s house. It hadn’t taken the ANBU long to find it, after all his address had been mentioned more than once in his report. The Sannin was dressed in his full ANBU armour, complete with the standard porcelain mask of authority. He carried no weapons or tools with him, just the small stringless puppet that had come with his target’s file. On top of his attire he wore a white ANBU Captain cloak, which was more of a symbol of his military rank than an actual item for protection. The moonlight illuminated his uniform from above, giving his form an eerie under-shade and plastering his shadow across the surface below him. It took the man a little more than an hour to get dressed, but as soon as he had he made his way out through the front door of his apartment. ‘We’ll have to work on his discrepancy,’ Han thought, as he traced the man’s figure out of the house and silently began to follow his journey through the streets. He watched to see how long it’d take the man to notice...

The jounin had learned much on his tour of the three lands and he had faced enough opponents to know that someone had actually started following him. His inability to sense quickly was one of the reasons why he was captured in the first place. He had little chance to react and that ended up in him being brain washed by some unknown forces. Anyway he had stopped dwelling on his past but it was one of his greatest motivations, never falling into the pit of his past life. He had even once stopped to think if anyone from konoha would come to find him but it was almost impossible because all of his appearance had been altered when he was kidnapped and worked upon. He is  a new person now, ready to serve and pursue his own goals.

Through black shades, he scanned gently to see if he could sight his follower but he could not though not every part of the village received the light of the moon so he could conclude that whoever it is was hiding in the shadows. Was he being followed to Kumogakure from any of the three lands he had investigated in? That was impossible, no one knew that he was Draygglez Senju. Whoever it was did not stop following him and even if he could not yet see them, the feeling that he was not alone was very positive.

He did not plan on attacking directly but he would soon get whoever it was. He turned to his right and walked into a dark alley way. Creating quick hand seals, he made a wood clone and allowed the clone to merge with a nearby vegetation still in the dark alley after which he would walk out into the light. It would seem as if he had done nothing because the  alley was extremely dark and the ordinary eye could not well see much details. Walking out innocently, he would expect his follower to keep up and the moment he noticed this, his clone would separate from the vegetation and track this intruder. The clone would be as subtle as ever and with or without getting spotted, he would turn his right arm into a large branch and shoot it towards the right thigh of the follower with full speed.

Whatever happens, Syn would await the outcome while acting as if nothing happened until his follower would react to the attack or speak something.

The man didn’t show any obvious physical signs of awareness, though Han knew better than to prematurely leap to conclusions. Although the ANBU wasn’t really trying to mask his presence, he still didn’t want to make it easy for his subject to detect him. It was a minimum expectation of all active  ANBU operatives to remain curious and cautious at all times whilst on duty - for the sake of discrepancy and as their first reflex - which was a habit Han planned to install into his future apprentice’s day-to-day mindset. Syn had to do more than just notice the stranger that was shadowing his every move: he had to quickly escape out of his stalker’s radar whilst making sure he didn’t leave behind a second track.

Han continued to follow the man from a distance, his eyes locked on his figure and his figure alone whilst he weaved through the oncoming foot traffic. After walking for no more than three minutes, Han finally saw his target migrate towards his right, before turning and walking into a dark alley way ahead. "His perception is credible, but he’s far too predictable," the Sannin thought, as he finally stopped in his tracks, just a few meters behind the opening of the alleyway. After channeling his audio senses towards the alleyway before him, he’d hear the familiar sound of hardwood striking down on asphalt. Syn’s footsteps would suddenly grow louder and louder until the man’s figure emerged from the dark alley once more to continue on his journey through the streets. A smirk shaped itself across the swordsman’s hidden lips.

After a quick one-handed seal and a trivial deduction from his total chakra pool, Han projected an immaterial doppelganger of himself - completely identical to his own image, yet lacking any physical properties - a meter in front of him and watched the clone begin to purse his target in his place. The ANBU Captain would then instantaneously leap onto the rooftops of the line of buildings on his left, before silently moving ahead of his target and waiting ten meters in front of him. After his haze clone had passed by the exit of the alley way, a second version of Syn emerged from the shadows and attacked the ANBU’s immaterial double from behind. This Syn would shape it’s right arm into a large tree branch and quickly extend its length towards the ANBU clone’s right thigh. The real Syn had also apparently brought his stroll to a sudden halt, most likely to witness the results of his ‘ingenious’ trap. But all he’d see would be the tip of his clone’s wooden arm pierce through a 3D immaterial representation of the ANBU figure that had cast it - lacking any wounds or physical signs of penetration - shortly before it vanished into thin air. “You were smart to use your clone to confirm that you were indeed being followed,” the ANBU Captain finally spoke out from behind the unsuspecting Syn - his ANBU mask distorting the true nature of his voice- shortly after he had swiftly landed five meters behind him without making so much noise as a silent tap. “But you should have continued your journey using a different path.” The Sannin was satisfied with the man’s curiosity, but he had to work on his discrepancy.

“If I had been an assassin with a contract on your head you would have already been dead. If I had been a spy sent to monitor your every movement, you would have done very little to stop me,” Han explained, as he glanced past the puppeteer’s shoulder to stare down his creation. He knew Draygglez had the ability to create and manipulate wood, though he had never seen the man use it to do anything other than manipulate the pre-existing flora within his surroundings. “Follow me, the Raikage has instructed me to escort you back to his quarters,” the ANBU would finally speak out, before turning his back towards the Senju and making his way towards the Kage’s administration building. In truth he simply wanted an excuse to pull Syn away from the public scene and towards a more secure area, where he’d explain how the puppeteer had been assigned to him as his ANBU apprentice.

Syn had come to a halt and he had removed his head phones and hung it around his neck, waiting for the outcome of carefully laid out plan. Everything that the clone would do, he would be aware of it. His stalker kept following as expected but then his moku-bushin appeared from behind and instantaneously transformed its right arm into a branch and aimed it directly at the stalker's right thigh. The arrow hit the bull's eye but the target vanished into thin air and it appeared as if the wooden arm had pierced a cloud of smoke.

"You were smart to use your clone to confirm that you were indeed being followed,"

Being one a bit phlegmatic, his heart beat louder than normal for just a second and before he could put one and one together his well honed senses picked up a silent tap no more than five meters behind him indicating that someone had just landed.

"But you should have continued your journey using a different path".... the voice continued.

Syn turned back to see a very familiar yet unfamiliar figure standing in the distance before him. Familiar such that he knew whoever it was is a member of the the hidden cloud Anbu forces yet unfamiliar in the sense that he knew not who is under that porcelain mask and hooded cloak. Now he could see why his ingenious plan was quickly figured out and the thought that he was so incompetent did not rankle him..

"If i had been an assassin with a contract on your head you would have already been dead. If I had been a spy sent to monitor your every moment, you would have done very little to stop me."

No, that was not at all true. The Anbu's second statement was very wrong. Syn's foolhardy characteristic would prevent him from fleeing when there was still a very good chance that he could win the fight. Even though he seemed calm and collected, some things were just there deep down, lying beneath the skin and waiting for the right time to surface. If the Anbu had been an assassin, both parties would have fought at their best with Syn winning the fight or both of them sustaining deadly injuries and if he happened to be a spy, reinforcements could be easily called for before he could escape the village but considering the fact that their might be a huge difference in their strengths and skills, Syn chose not to speak all these out and waited for the Anbu to state his true purpose for he could not have just decided to fool around with Syn.

"Follow me, the Raikage has instructed me to escort you back to his quarters"... the Anbu finally spoke.

The Raikage.... his quarters? Did something happen... Syn had been with the Raikage the most part of the previous day, what would he want from him... perhaps a mission for the village.
The anbu gave Syn no time to process the information before turning and moving towards the administration building. Syn would not object rather he would follow in the Anbu's foot steps and not let curiosity get the better of him for it was all just a matter of time.
