So it was that another day in Kiri began. The sun had risen just over the horizon as it began the day and sparkled across the ocean around the huge island. Yet the island itself received only a portion of its light as what it was known for shielded it from all the warmth the sun had to offer. The mist that continuously hid the village stood like a phantom wall and defied the morning. Within it the villagers emerged to begin their day. Each of them locking the door behind them and hurrying into the depths of the white blanket quickly fading from the view of their homes. Workers here knew what the mist was and did not fear it most of the time. After all it was just a cold, wet part of life to them. There was one among them though the mist clung to ever more present. He seemed to embody it and fade in and out of it almost like a spectral figure. If one managed to catch site of him from a distance away they would quickly move back the way they had come and avoid him. Those who stepped too close however froze and prayed. They waited until the haunting figure passed them by. They could feel him like dread come to life and they could hardly breath so close to him. Sweat beaded their brow and still it felt cold as it trickled down and dripped off their chin. Yet the pale figure passed them and continued his hunt. His dead grey eyes never so much as glancing at them. The monster was not there for them. He had students to find.

through out the morning before noon he would find each of them doing whatever it was they did in the morning. Regardless of where they were or how many people were around them, even should they be in the center of their clan complex he would find them. A mist thicker then the villages mist would slowly roll in and the air would feel heavy and warm. To them the the sky would seem to darken and only then would they feel it. A set of eyes watching them from within the mist...from where they would not be able to see as Sero circled them from within the mist. His grey robes were hooded to hide him even further as those dull grey eyes pierced the veil and watched the prey he was hunting. They would feel him like a trickle of sweat down the spine...the hairs on the back of the neck rising and the animal like urge of fight or flight screaming at them from within. It would feel like Sero was everywhere and slowly a great maw was opening. A low growl filling the air as it slowly overtook them. The chakra pressure surrounding them and consuming the reality around them. He was an alpha predator and they were his hunt. He was there for them. Ever watching and studying them. Seconds like hours stretching on as one might wonder when the beast would pounce...when would he end the hunt? Was he tormenting them for enjoyment? No help was coming for them as time dragged on and for once against these odds they were truly alone...he was holding their fate in his claws and he had no intentions of releasing them. Still after only a minute he would flash step behind them. Careful to avoid their line of sight...they needed to pass his test to see him. He would aim a single strike to the base of the back of their skull with a calculated resistance to going full strength. Just enough to rock their brain and knock them out. Only than would he drag them to the gauntlet.

The three of them would awaken in very different settings but still in one piece. Likely with a head ache. Yet the room they were in was dark at first. As they tried to move they would realize they were restrained. Once they tried to move they would hear it...someone else in the room was shifting around and breathing in the dark. They weren't alone...another victim perhaps? Still a set of long double lights would flicker to life overhead and reveal the reality of it. They were in a square room with only two pieces of furniture. Brick walls on either side and marble floors. Across from them was a bearded older man...tattooed with pirate markings with multiple flags up their right arm. Both them and the pirate were tied to chairs with thick mooring rope. In the center of the floor was a Kunai between them and a door behind them and a door behind the pirate made of metal. A camera in the corner shifted as a speaker from somewhere flicked to life with a crackle sound. When the voice came over it the sound of it was cold and left no doubt the source of it had no sense of morality or humanity.

"Finally awake. Welcome to the gauntlet. The first room is a test of survival. Across from you is a member of the crew known as the crimson sea legion. A common legionnaire as their rank is called...each flag on their right arm is a confirmed murder. In order to progress you must free yourself and kill the pirate. Keeping in mind for the pirate...doing the same to you means the door behind you will open and he will be free once more. No one is going to save you....no one is going to stop him.....I suggest you begin."

Another day in Kirigakure, another day Aozame didn't want to do anything but train. She had been waiting for her Sensei to come get them and introduce his or herself to them. She had been anticipating the meeting all week, after that meeting with the Uchiha she had been eager to start training and get going with whatever tasks their Sensei had for them. The meeting with Teru, yes Teru was her name, that meeting had unnerved Aozame. She wasn't quite sure why. Something just tickled the back of her neck, made her shiver down her spine. She figured it was just the cold Kiri air coming back to bite her along her walk. The mist seemed awfully thick today, walking back towards the clan site. Something didn't seem right, it seemed too cold. Too dark. Too misty. Realizing there was actually no one else along the road she walked, that chill hit her down the spine again. The dread setting in, Aozame was used to the feeling but this was something different. Something new. Something she hadn't experienced in a long time. Total anxiety. Fear, it seemed new. It seemed as if the feeling had a new sensation brought upon it's old form, taking over and creating a new emotion entirely. As another shiver ran down her spine, she caught a shadow out of the corner of her eye. Not even catching the tail end of whatever this shadow was. She exclaimed "What the he-" right before being slammed into right in the back of her head, knocking her unconscious immediately.

Aozame's head throbbed as she awoke, pitch black and a grunting she could hear not too far away. She tried to remember what happened last. Cold. Mist. A fast shadow. Then black. She had gotten cold cocked while she was out and about. Not sure why, but she knew that this had to be some kind of bad news she was in. The room felt cold on her skin, as she brought her head up, then trying her hands, she realized she was tied up. Not sure what was going on and getting angrier every second, she yelled out "Whatever this is, this is getting on my last nerve!" as she spoke, two overhead lights came on as it filled the room. Followed by what seemed to be the coldest voice she had ever heard. No empathy reverberated in this tone whatsoever.

Aozame looked up while this man told her that the person across from her was a murderer. Aozame tuned into the words like they were her last eulogy, staring down the mans arm as she saw the three flags down it. Being caught off guard had Aozame startled, but she knew that this man didn't joke around. She was receiving no help from anyone. She had no sight of Shakusukin anywhere, remembering that she went on her walk without him. Damning herself, she should have brought him. Aozame had other means of escaping, even without Shaku. She quickly bent down and tore the rope apart using her teeth, opening up enough so she could release her arms. She quickly formed the hand signs for Lightning Release: Javelin, finishing the signs as the pirate had almost gotten free, having trouble getting his arms free. He glanced over at Aozame as the bright blue Raiton spears formed above her. Aozame spoke with a tone of anger and malice. "Three murders? I hope they were worth it you worthless sack of bone. Three spears for three murders." as she plunged the first two spears deep into his eye sockets, one for each eye. Screaming now, as he had been blinded, Aozame merely says "Oh, shut up will you." as she sends the third through his neck. Leaving him coughing and sputtering for air. On edge, having to kill someone, but being able to leave calmed her a bit. As she waited for the door to open she yells to the voice beyond the walls "I did your little game, now let me out!"

The fog concealed most of her vision, the moist air brushing against her skin while walking around the village. She was slightly excited for the day, it was meant to be the day in which she would meet the rest of her team. It would be a riveting new experience for the Jugo Clan female, it was unsure what type of people they would be. She couldn't help but imagine what the people would be like, though she wasn't sure were she was supposed to meet them exactly. She never had the chance to discuss with the team leader, there was no clue on where she was supposed to meet the fellow members of her squad. Pacing through the village, curious and wondering a sudden chill would roll down her spine. Something was watching her, something was following the girl, it's eyes focused on her. It's presence had loomed over her, it felt as if it was a hand that was slowly following and closing in around her. The presence felt like it a was one with the fog, it was large, wrapping around and covering the entire area, it was so suffocating, so over powering. This feeling was something like no other, or at least nothing like what she had felt before. Familiar with the sense of being hunted, she would pick up her pace, trying to escape the overwhelming aura of her predator but it would still follow. She never ran from a fight, but whatever this was it would be no fight, it would be a slaughter if she tried to face it. Trying to move away it would prove futile as the feeling of chop would strike the back of her neck, her vision faded as all of the girl's vision was clouded before nothing but darkness was there.

Things started to become visible soon, and the only thing that could be heard was a voice, looking up she would see the man that sat across from her. There sat an old looking pirate, she looked at his clothing, examining his body while she listened to the man that spoke to her. His voice was so cruel and ruthless, there was no doubt that this had to have been the person that kidnapped her and that was sure. It slightly irked her, she knew the man was most likely far superior to her in skill, but it she didn't appreciate being kidnapped at all, it only brought the anger out. She would play along, there was probably a reason she was brought here after all, but she would have to let out a little steam out on this killer. This boring room would soon become a burial ground for the poor pirate and that she would be sure of.

She started to press her body against the rope, the constricting fabric held her back but it wouldn't be for long, her body would start to change. She started to use her clans battle transformation technique, her skin began to change turning to a dark slate grey color. The sclera of hers eyes turned black, her mouth opened up revealing her teeth, her canines appeared to be slightly longer and sharper, while a few teeth behind them also become more sharp. Her muscles seemed slightly more prominent, she increased her own physical strentgh in order to make escaping easier. Her nails had become similar to that of claws, while her hands and forearms became harder and encased like armoring, her feet and calves also underwent a similar transformation. They would be useful for blunt force, she would press against the rope as her body changed to tear apart the rope slowly with pure force. Now free she would walk up to the pirate, staring at him with intense and evil eyes, she looked like a monster, giving of a terrifying presence that might have overwhelmed the pirate. No matter what the pirate had did or how he would react the girl would begin to attack him. She would slam her first into him, kick him and try to pierce her claws through his flesh in attempt to tear through his flesh. After the dead had been done she would wait to move onto the next room saying one thing after slaying the man.

"I've done what I've needed to do, may I move on now?"

The anger was building, that's what using this form would do to her but it was the best method she had right now, if this was a test made by a monster, she would need to become one. Hopefully the rage would not consume her, she didn't want to be a monster but she saw it necessary for this test.

Just like most other days, it was foggy and chilled so much that wearing a large coat was tempting. Having just left her home, Teru was out with plans for a day full of practice and exercise. She was looking to get a lot done in hopes of impressing this sensei she was supposed to be meeting. There was also certain competition that she did not want to disappoint, either. The one originating from a clan so different from hers. That person… Teru was just dying to see to it that this day would go by fast so that she could see this new friend of hers again. And, as Teru walked by herself through the thick screen of fog, something poked at the nerves in her spine. The odd sensation made her stop for a moment to subconsciously bring her hand to the back of her neck as if something was tickling it teasingly, or as if someone was trying to play with her and taunt her. It actually made her innards quiver for some reason. Teru only blinked once and pouted before shaking off the thought. She could only think of the feeling as being apart of her imagination, or even the cold trying to play tricks on her. So, she kept walking to get to her destination. Well, she wanted to keep moving. The moment she blinked again to relieve her eyes of dryness, something caught her off guard. Was it another famous prank from the mist? Or could it have been something else? The mystery of it just made her heart want to race out from the shelter of her chest. And when a force subduing force crept all around Teru, she felt suffocated. It was too strong to fight; she wanted to drop to her knees from it. “What is this?” was what she wanted to say, but her mouth would not open. There was no time to even open her mouth to speak a single word before something struck the back of her head. She was down and out from just one hit from something hidden in the very mist she walked through.

Slowly coming to, Teru Uchiha cracked her eyes open when an unwelcome ache in her skull throbbed and tormented her. Even then, having her dizzied eyes wide open, it was so hard to see anything. She opened and closed them repeatedly to adjust to the sudden darkness, but there was still a little blur in her vision. “What…?” she mumbled, confused about her location. Despite having tried to move a muscle, her arms just wouldn’t move. “What in the world is this?” She was tied up to the point where she was trapped in place on a single chair. Utter confusion was going to take her, especially after two lights came on and the sight of something in front of her caught her attention. A man with strange tattoos on his arm sat in front of her; he looked to be in the same exact situation as Teru. Following her awakening was a cold voice that felt threatening to the Genin. She stayed quiet and listened to the unseen stranger’s words, feeling a bit concerned for her own well being. According to the one hosting this unusual event, the man bound in the chair in front of her was a murderer. If he got out before she could, she was a dead girl. That was how it appeared from every angle.

She could see that he was already trying to work himself free from the bindings, but that did not panic her. Inhaling sharply, Teru wriggled both of her hands up so that she could focus her chakra. Knowing that the man sitting across from her was a murderer helped calm her. “Killing a person for no reason is one thing,” she began, a bead of sweat rolling down her left temple. “Killing a murderer is… justice to my senses.” Teru’s eyes narrowed as she took in one last breath, filling her lungs with chakra until they could not be filled anymore. Her eyes locked onto the killer’s as she breathed out several, burning balls of fire at him-- four in total. One of them had struck the man in the head, the other three striking his torso and legs. The fire ignited his body and relentlessly burned his flesh. Teru only listened to his screams of pain and agony, waiting until the time for when he would stop shouting for help.

“It’s done,” Teru muttered, letting out a quiet grunt as she squeezed out from the ropes with some struggle. As soon as she was out, she ran her hands over her limbs and the back of her head to do away with the soreness. She was calmer than before, but she still had an air of confusion around her. But, she was happy to have a chance of freedom after the unexpected trial. The door that she assumed was the one she was supposed to be going through was not yet opened, but she believed that it would allow her an exit in just a moment. “Okay… Am I allowed to get out of here now? I had a go with this challenge of yours, and I’m still alive.”

Sero glanced at the camera idly as all three had began to awaken. Female in gender, all young in age and each ranked as genin. Varied heights, skin tone and hair color. He quietly flipped through the files in front of him on the table ignoring the groans of the prisoners around him. All three were ninjutsu specialists with skills in Taijutsu, bukijutsu and medical. A balanced squad for certain with more power at a range but capabilities up close. He flipped the file closed again with his pale fingers and picked up his tea as he watched the screens. Sipping at the hot drink as he watched them all dispatch of their targets differently. Two of them breaking free in order to do the deed but one did it differently. An eyebrow rose at the way that was done. Doing things out of order could often lead to showing tactical awareness above others. Either way they each had dispatched the target in a brutal way with no hesitation. He could see why they would be allowed to be under his supervision if taking a life meant so little to them. Not one of them stopped to vomit or looked away. Interesting indeed. Still he listened to them shout at him over the walls and smiled as he figured they could hear each other too.

Still he noted that they missed something he felt was important. As a weapons specialist he wasn't happy that not a one of them collected the weaponry available. No matter...they would regret it soon enough. Sero flicked the first switch on three different panels and all three doors swung open. The three of them were still separated by a crudely made brick wall but the metal doors obviously meant to proceed to the next room. He would wait until they entered it to close the door behind them...cutting them off from retrieving the weapon. Once more a crudely hanging overhead light would flicker to life revealing only on thing in the room. A table with a man tied to it. His arms, wrists, legs, ankles, waist and neck bound by leather straps...his mouth stitched shut with wire but his eyes were filled with panic as each of the young men saw a newcomer enter the room. There were no tools available but once again a camera in the corner shifted to look at them. The lens zooming in and out and following their movements. On the other side of the room was a metal door but this one had a key hole in it. They were left there in silence for a moment before the loud speaker crackled to life again. Sero holding the microphone in his pale hand as his thin lips split apart in an almost sickening smile. His voice was so cold it almost dropped the temperature but at the sound of it each man tied to the tables began to violently attempt to get free. Some memory haunting them of that voice.

"Well done passing the first room of the gauntlet. However leaving the available weaponry behind is a mark down. Especially for you, bukijutsu user. It will certainly make this next part far more hands on and difficult. Before you is a young man whom you do not know the history or life of. He could be evil or innocent...you have no way of knowing. Your orders are to retrieve the key he swallowed two hours ago. It is the only way to proceed from here. Have fun doing it without a knife."

As she stood there the door opened and she could see through, what looked like a table with a body on it lay down the hallway. Aozame, knowing it wouldn't be that easy, walked down the hallway. She could of swore she heard another voice. She brushed it off, wanting to leave this as soon as she could. It annoyed her that she had to go through some sort of test at the hands of a madman. Playing games with her while watching from afar. Some sick game this was, but she would play along for the time being, although it was only making her angrier as she went. Walking down the hallway into another open room, as the door slammed shut behind her, she saw now on the table a man. Tied down at every place, mouth sewn shut and a gaze that shouted help me while it was fixed upon her. Alas, she saw another door, the same metal kind she just came from. Except, this one had a key hole unlike the other. Waiting impatiently for the next instructions, she yelled out "I've been playing your little game! Now, what do I do with this one? Kill him too? You'd enjoy that you sadistic fu-" abruptly cut off by the sound of a speaker roaring to life once more. As the camera moved onto her image and the chilling voice rang out once more.

As the voice spoke, a chill went through the man on the table. Squirming and lashing out trying to break free. Aozame took it that these two had some prior business that didn't go too well in his favor. Have fun doing it without a knife." the man was almost in tears at this point, flailing on the table like a child throwing a tantrum. Except this child was strapped down at every arm leg and appendage, while having his mouth sewn shut. Knowing that she had to get that key, she started to go for his stomach. Eyes wide, she places her hands on his chest and thought about how she would tear through his stomach. Then, it hit her, he could be innocent. She didn't know if the man deserved it or not. She had to think of something else. She thought about letting it pass or something. But that could take days, keys wouldn't go through correctly. Staring at the man as he silently pleaded, she came across how she would get it.

Aozame went straight for his mouth. As he started to cry and lash his head back and forth she held it down and said "If you don't stop squirming I might actually tear a hole in your face on accident." saying as she bent down and tore through the thread with her teeth, carefully as to not damage anything else besides the thread. She may have nicked his cheek on the back swing though, he'll be fine. As soon as she tore the thread his pleas started. "HELP. HELP. PLEASE SOMEBODY HE-" slamming her hand over his mouth. Getting angry now, she says "If you don't shut up and cooperate, I will tear through your stomach and gut you like a fish. Mmkay? Mmkay. Now, open wide." she removed her hand, right before throwing it into his mouth instead of onto it, careful to tilt his head sideways so he didn't choke on his own vomit. The first time he threw up he actually got some on her. She looked at him and he looked back at her. Locking eyes and his saying "I'm sorry." while hers said "Don't make me throw up on you next." after a few tries she started to get frustrated. Having to dig through puke was not satisfying at all. Just as the next one came she saw something odd fly out and onto the floor, a little bronze metal object, that fit right into the door. She put the key into the door and opened, as she felt like she was going to step into freedom. Alas, it was just another room. Pouting, not wanting to have to kill someone or have to make someone puke. She walked into the next room nonetheless.

She kept her monstrous form, after the man had been killed she would scoff slightly, it was slightly sickening but it was what she needed to do. With the job done she would proceed forward, walking through the door as it had opened, walking into a dark area where she could barely see a thing. The door slamming down, trapping her within this new room, she couldn't see anything now, only her other senses to guide her at this moment. It sounded as if there was something in there making noise. The source of the noise would be revealed as the room was brought to life. In front of her, across the room was a struggling man on a table, he was tied down thrashing with little to no noise coming from his mouth. She would approach the man looking over his body, his mouth was sewn tightly shut, his arms and legs bound so he couldn't resist. The man that was doing this was some sick and demented creep, she was sure of that. With he speaker crackling to life that cold voice would be heard, it was time for another set of directions she assumed. His words, they felt like some sort of insect crawled around her body, she didn't like it one bit, she would absorb his every word. Listening to how they would have to get the key out of the mans stomach, his mouth was sewn shut, and it was unsure if he innocent or not. This was a the work of a demon that was for sure, but she was going to solve it without harming him.

She peered down onto him, the man staring into her strange eyes, his pupils shrinking as he would begin to thrash around more. He was afraid of her, it was a normal reaction upon seeing something like this. She would use her claws and place them on the wire, carefully cutting through it. As the wire would snap and the mans mouth would be freed she would hear a loud scream come from his mouth. "GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MONSTER, GET THE HELL AWAY FROM ME!!!" A sigh parted from her lips, this was an annoyance but was surely expected. Giving the sweet smile she normally gave, she would speak gently, seemingly unfit for the Jugo female's appearance.

"Please shut the hell up for a sec and allow me to make this better for the both of us, neither one of us is going to like what I'm about to do."

The girl would move the male's head sideways, she was going to make him puke out the key, and if his head was facing up there was a chance he'd choke on his own throw up. Sliding her fingers down the mans mouth gently, making sure not to cut his body at all with her nails his gag reflex would kick in. The vomit would spew across the floor over her hand, seeing the key clank across the ground. Wiping her hand off she would approach, picking up the key she would walk over to the man and slice one of his arm restraints.

"I won't undo the rest, I don't know your past hence why I didn't kill you, but I can't trust you so I will allow you to free yourself, as I should be gone when you do. I don't want the risk of you attacking me when I try to leave."

After the girl spoke she would walk over to the door, sliding the key into the door hearing it unlock. She wondered what challenge would be on the other side. She was sure this wasn't the last of the trials whoever kidnapped them had planned.

As pleased as she was about being free from this first trial, the sick feeling that something even worse was just up ahead. Or… it was just the smell of charred flesh that gave her that unwelcome sensation. She silently hoped that this mystery man wouldn’t have her do anything so painful to the soul again. Teru didn’t let the dark thoughts linger in her head for very long, for the door that kept her from moving forward had been opened. Not a second longer did she let herself stay behind in that burned up chamber. But, the idea of taking that one weapon from before slipped her mind so easily. Perhaps she could have taken it along in case something big turned up later on. She just wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible, which was evident in how speedily she stepped through the next door. A moment longer in there, and she probably would have passed out from the lack of fresh air…

“What is this?”

Teru’s eyes were narrowed, brows furrowed, at the site before her as the door slammed shut behind her. Unlike the previous jam she was in, she was able to freely move around. However, just under the flickering light, a figure bound to a table caught her gaze. Arms, legs-- everything. This figure was bound and had no way of getting out from the trap, nor did Teru. Before checking to see if this person was alright, she approached the door and noted that she had to have a key to get out. “A game of hide-and-seek, is it?” she muttered, then went to the side of the young man bound to the table. His lips were tightly stitched shut, but Teru had nothing to use to cut them free from the wire. For a second, her mind flickered back to the other room-- the kunai. “I wish I would have gone back for it. It’s too late now.” Just then, a familiar voice that tormented Teru’s nerves spoke up. She clenched her teeth as he, or whoever it was, congratulated her on her success of getting free from the first room. It was only a brief light over the issue regarding the man she was standing next to. The fact that she didn’t know about the man’s behavior was going to make it a little more difficult. Not having a knife, as mentioned, made it an absolute nightmare.

As soon as the captor’s voice disappeared again, Teru was left with the imprisoned stranger who squirmed and thrashed about to attempt to get free. “Hey, hey,” Teru bit her tongue, taking a step back as to not get caught up in the writhing of the young man. ‘Getting worked up like this won’t do me any good. There has to be something I can do to make sure neither of us is killed,’ she thought to herself, exhaling a frustrated breath. ‘Like that person said, this guy could be innocent… or just another thug. And... wait a minute. Bukijutsu user? I don't-- is there somebody else here other than myself?’

“Stop making such a struggle, or else I won’t be able to help you get out of here,” Teru sighed, holding down the man’s head with her hands. She looked into his frightened eyes with much seriousness. “I’m going to have to have to get that key, so please try not to struggle so much…” Without a knife, there could still be a couple of ways to retrieve the key from his stomach. Considering both made the Uchiha want to gag… but something had to be done. First, however, she tucked the index finger of her right and left hands under the stitching on either side of the stranger’s mouth and prepared to remove them forcefully. “I’m very sorry about this, but I have no choice. If I don’t, then I won’t be able to get out of here myself. Just bear with me here, okay?” With that being said, and giving no chance for a protest, Teru ripped out each of the stitching. Doing so caused great pain for the one stuck with them in his mouth. Teru was pained as well, but not physically. She had no joy in causing this stranger such pain, so she tried to be quick with what she had to do.

As soon as all wires were out of his mouth, Teru’s ears were met with loud screams of pain. “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!” she cringed, and backed her bloodied hands from him while he shrieked. She did not blame him, though. Being put through something as terrible as this certainly allowed for a little breakdown. Although, those choice words he threw out were a bit much, especially when directed at her. “GET ME OUT OF HERE! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!”

“I can understand your feelings, sir, but you should know that I’m not the one who put you in this mess in the first place,” she said calmly. There was still nothing she could do about the rest of the straps tying him down to the table. So, he was undoubtedly trapped there forever, yet Teru still had a way of getting her freedom back. The best option was to force the guy to puke, which should be effective in getting that key out. She was betting on it. Otherwise, she’d have to… do the unthinkable. “I’ve got an idea, but it requires me sticking my hand down your throat. That has to be the best way to get the key. Then I’ll be able to unlock the door and get help for you. Aren’t I right?”

“No!” he refused, repeatedly shaking his head against this solution she brought up. “Ain’t no way am I letting you put your filthy fingers in my mouth! I’d rather die right here and now!” This refusal brought a grimace to Teru’s face as she half glared at him. He did refuse the one option, so she had no choice but to go with the second. Even if she was highly against it, there was simply no choice. “Just get away from me! Or just KILL ME NOW!!”

She brought her hands down to the stranger’s right hand and rest them there for a moment. “Don’t blame me for this,” she said sadly, and gripped his middle finger. With as much strength as she could possibly muster, Teru broke it until it could not be broken anymore. Her ears heard the bellowing, but tried not to listen to it. Curse words and other crude sayings were thrown at the girl as she was soon able to rip off the digit. Blood poured from the open wound on his hand, which splattered onto the sleeve of her white shirt. “Ngh….” Teru stifled a yelp as she held the torn finger in her bloody hands. “Again… I’m very sorry about this. But, I just have to get out of here. I… I don’t think the both of us are going to make it out of this, so allow me to thank you for this forced assistance. I’ll go ahead and put you out of your misery now, knowing that.”

Guilt pierced her heart as she unwillingly killed the man by sending a jab to his throat. But, that did not stop her from going on to get that key. Her eyes looked around, before she was to go on with what she had in mind. “I know you can hear me,” Teru spoke up loud and clear. “As soon as I’m… done here. Would you do me the favor of getting me a bucket of water?” Wasting no more than a minute, Teru focused her attention on the object in her possession. ‘Just thinking about doing this is going to make me gag, but I must!’ she encouraged herself. She breathed in sharply before biting into the dismembered limb. As soon as that was through, she went over to the wall where she would attempt to sharpen the pointed end of the bone. It was never spoken of often, but she recalled hearing this method from someone close quite some time ago. Bones were not only good for giving the body the support it needed, but they could be used for making tools and such. That was what she intended to do despite not having much to work with, and when it sickened her immensely. As soon as she was finished sharpening the bone, Teru went back over to the deceased male and cut into his stomach. She was no medical ninja, but cutting into someone seemed simple enough. Her hands searched the contents of the stomach, soon making contact with a solid object.

Lifting her hands out of the mess of blood and organs, Teru eyed the metal object in her palm. “I found it!” she smiled, but then spit out some blood-- not her blood. After giving the man she killed an apologetic look, she left for the door to unlock it. Without turning back, she went through to whatever trial waited for her next. All hopes were with this nightmare being over or just ending.

Sero

Sero set down the straight razor he had been working with as his current project had passed out again. His blood stained pale fingers releasing the tool of his trade with a clatter as his dead grey eyes turned to look back at the grey screens. Really it was just the camera's showing in black and white...he hadn't cared to invest in better equipment than what was readily available in the manor. Still each of them were progressing about as well as he may have hoped for anyone being placed under him in a squad. He wasn't sure anyone in the country was capable of falling in line with him but these three were molding nicely. Still he watched their lips move as they shouted obscene things at him. Well really it was just the first one that was loud about it. He picked up a rag long since stained red from a pale of water and wiped off his fingers....leaving a red tinge on them but other than that they were clean. He tossed the rag back into the pale of water with a slight splash before he moved back over to the files on the table. He didn't care to remove his blood stained apron for the time being. Instead he flipped open all three files. The loud one was from that clan that specialized in under water tactics. They had the ability to breath under the surface of liquids similar to H20. The other two were more quiet but he knew that wasn't what really rested within. A shape shifter from a clan known for issues with control...and the true monster of the group...strictly based on the history of her clan...an Uchiha. He was rather surprised the first two had passed up killing the subjects in the second rooms....yet he had suspected it would be the Uchiha for sure that would actually end the life of the person in their care. With some brutality too... He smiled a little as he waved his hand and all three files closed. Either way they had all three managed to pass the first two trials even if not perfectly. Those trials however were simple in comparison. The final and third trial of the gauntlet he had prepared was what would truly test them as a squad. If they were to chance death in any of the three rooms the third would be the one it would happen in.

......................................................................................................................................

As the three girls entered through their doors and stepped through they would smell water and feel the damp air. Once again the doors would close behind them as lights would flicker to life high above them. There was no longer walls separating them from each other and as such they could clearly see each other. The room they were in was a massive room with about two meters of floor they could walk forward that stretched from wall to wall. It was obvious now that the hallways they had just emerged from were not the original design of the building. Perhaps a large ballroom at some point. Still across the large room was one more brick wall with a single door in the center. After the two meters the floor looked as if it had been wiped out by some impressive force before being filled with tap water from the hose. This stretched on for a good twenty meters with four wooden floating platforms set across it. Each platform was five by five meters with five meters between them and five meters between the platforms and the floors on either side. For the moment it was fairly still but that was obviously about to change. The Radio flickered to life once more with some static as once more Sero's cold tones spoke out as he held down the intercom button.

"Welcome to your final trial children. This is the day you waited for. The day you progress into a world of bloody evolution. You rise quickly to the situation or you fail and fall. You each acted in your own way to achieve a goal for yourself and while flawed you managed to get this far. Now you will have to rely on each other as not one of you is strong enough for this alone. You are about to meet a hit squad that has been promised freedom if they can end you. They are D ranked like yourself yet have proven effective in the past against single targets because their teamwork makes them stronger than most people alone could be. End them before they end you and we will finally meet. DO NOT disappoint me."

Sero released the button and the radio released to static before clicking off again. They would have about a minute to interact before the door on the other side would open briefly and three individuals would step in. One man with short hair and a beard and an almost golden skin with gills. He smirked and showed a row of sharp teeth before he ripped off his shirt and revealed rows of flags from his neck down to his waist. Standing there in shorts. On the other side a young man in a white tank top and blue pants seemed to fade from skin to water and back again. His long blue hair hung about his shoulders as striking blue eyes took them in. A member of the clan that could become water to avoid damage obviously. Lastly was a girl that was a little shorter than the two of them. She was wearing a black long coat and turtle neck with black pants. Her hair was white and the right side of her hair was shaved while the left side was shoulder length. None of them displayed weapons or were wearing shoes. Still the moment the door closed behind them they moved into action. The fish man dove into the water and faded beneath the surface from view. The Pale boy with the body fading to water leaned down and touched his fist to the water as the liquid formed around his fists and became swirling drill knuckles. He launched off his spot and onto the wall on the side and began running side ways towards the three girls. The girl on the team clapped her hands together and spread Raiton between her hands as they separated forming a bow before green chakra formed in the bow...wind chakra crackling with a mixture of raiton. She launched off three arrows at once...each aimed at the girls moving at ten meters per second from twenty meters away.

Aozame slowly walked through the door, pitch black again. This man did seem to like to make his scenes dramatic. She had walked through the door, feeling her way through with her feet, sliding them through whatever terrain this room would be. Starting to slide past the wall to her left disappeared, she froze, awaiting the eventual lights to spur to life and for her to see what next waited for her. The smell of damp air and water filled her lungs, as if someone had left the bath run too long and it overflowed onto the ground. She heard another door swing open, and then another. Seeing two silhouettes of others on the far right of her. Through their doors lighting the way, she could only see their outlines. Yet, she knew that they must be other victims of this man's terror plot. She started to say Hey, who else is in he-" the lights flashed on in the middle of her sentence. She stopped at the sudden brightness, grabbing hold of her vision once more. She noticed a girl, who had grey rough skin and a bright yellow eye on the side that was disfigured. This was a Jugo, she had heard of them. Though she only knew of one Jugo that lived in Kirigakure, she had yet to meet. Maybe this was the one? Then, as her eyes dashed over to the other figure she had seen, her gut filled with fire and her eyes with rage. She lay eyes upon the Uchiha child she had encountered on the docks not too many days ago. Gritting her teeth, she yelled. "Is this some sort of a joke? What are you doing here, and why are we all here. Don't you dare lie to me either Uchiha, or I will break your damn legs." Aozame said with a fury, not truly being angered by the Uchiha, but diverting her anger towards who she believed it would suit best. Then, the voice spoke once more.

DO NOT disappoint me." the voice hissed at them as the door on the far end become unlatched, swinging open she saw three individuals stride out. The first was of a different nature, short jet black hair and a beard to match, golden skin and, Aozame saw gills. Another Hoshigaki had entered the battlefield. After him a pale male strode out and was casually dressed in a tank top and shorts. Seeming to be bored by all of this, his body came in and out of focus, sort of like looking through water to see him. A Hozuki it seemed, a fit choice to pair those two together. Then, the third came out, a girl this time, her head shaved on a portion with long white hair down the other, dressed in a long coat. Aozame scouted, none of them seemed to hold any weapons, and oddly enough not a one of them had any shoes on either. The Hoshigaki smirked as he ripped his shirt off, revealing flags down his entire body. Notably from the same group as those pirates, so these were murderers too. Grinning, baring his shark teeth and chuckling a little. Aozame quickly knew what had to be done, hating to work together with that Uchiha, but knowing she had no other choice. She told both of them "I'll take the big golden Hoshigaki, I know his weaknesses. Uchiha, take the girl, she seems frail. Jugo, you are to rage and go after the Hozuki, the slacker over there. If we don't do this, we'll most likely all die. Listen to me and stay focused. Handle your person then regroup to take down the rest if the others have trouble. Time to frenzy." as she was talking, she watched the Hoshigaki dive down into the water, the Hozuki lay his hands down upon it and absorb the water into spiraling drill hands, running along the wall towards them, as the girl clapped her hands together and produced a bow of Raiton energy, and then green chakra appeared. Fuuton arrows began to be drawn, and fired. Three to be exact, right towards all of the girls.

Aozame quickly pushed off of the ground and leapt towards the water where she saw the Hoshigaki dive into. The arrow diving past her, whizzing by as she narrowly escaped missing an ear. Diving into the water she ignored the above chaos. Trying to locate the man who dived under, she met his gaze as they both tread water. "Sorry that you have to die sweet heart, but we're getting out of here." Aozame replied "You'll be leaving here in a body bag just like your friends up there, dickhead." at that, he jetted towards her as she did the same towards him. As they were about to crash into each other, his hands ready and teeth bared for a bite, she dove past him deeper into the pool. "Come now little girl, I don't bite!" turning and heading deeper chasing her down. She reached the bottom of the pool as she yelled "No, but you do smell like rotting fish." egging him on as he roared and swam, dive bombing through the water right to her. This was her chance. Taking no hand signs to accomplish, she stuck her hand out in the form of a gun, both middle and index finger pointed at him. With his speed, he wouldn't be able to stop on a dime. Utilizing her Lightning Release: Shock Bullets she shot out 8 of the bullets, 4 into each gill on his shoulder. In a rage, he was barreling too fast and he was too close to dodge this jutsu, as the tennis ball sized orbs of electricity seized up his gills and he all of a sudden became unable to breathe. His momentum carried him into the bottom of the pool of water, smashing his head into it, dazing him as he choked for air. Aozame, said to him"Raiton's terrible to us, isn't it? Sucks not being able to breathe." as he looked up she fired the rest of the shots, 7 to be exact. 3 went into each of his eyes, as she shot one right into his crotch. She swam behind him as he was inaudibly screaming at the pain while drowning. She went behind him and held him tight to keep him underwater. He lashed out, elbowing her in the side of the head a few times. This pissed her off, and she was ready to get this over with, as she took one hand underneath his head and one above his head, and twisted with an audible crack underneath the water. Teach him to hit her again. Walking, or swimming rather, taking the corpse along with her. Getting by with mere bruises and a scratch or two, she assumed she was the luckiest of the bunch. She swam back up to the surface, awaiting to see what damage the other girls caused, or what damage they had received.

Uchiha Teru

Uchiha Teru

D-rank
After a short time of walking through another dark path, Teru began to notice a difference in the air. It wasn’t quite like the other rooms she had been in. The first one used to be musty and suffocating, and overrun with the smell of a burning corpse while the second was filled with a strong scent of blood. This time, her nose caught a whiff of a water source’s scent. It didn’t smell like spring water, or anything like that. But, it had to have had its freshness. What ruined that scent was the blood still covering parts of her skin and clothing; it was like death was following her because of the awful things she was forced to do. “Huh,” Teru’s mouth cracked open slightly as the lights flickered on to enlighten the darkness. It was as she thought-- there was a source of water. Her eyes narrowed a bit as they studied the water’s surface for a moment. It looked safe, but she wasn’t too certain about that. Taking a couple of steps toward the edge where the drier floor met with the murky liquid. She could see a few platforms floating in the water, which made her want to think about what they were for exactly. “I wonder…”

However, before she could speak a full sentence, a familiar voice cut in and surprised her. She jumped a little at the sound of that angry voice. Ever since she had first woken up in the first room, she never expected to see that person again, especially under these circumstances. “Aozame!” Teru half gasped, and turned around to see the Hoshigaki standing just a short distance away from her. It was odd to see her without that sword of hers-- Shakusukin. A single bead of sweat rolled down her cheek as the Hoshigaki kunoichi vented some rage on her. She didn’t blame Aozame for being angered, but she wondered why it was thrown at her. “Ah, I wouldn’t call it a joke.” Teru paused and gestured to the blood covering her hands, clothes, and face. “I’m in the same position as you.”

Teru’s eyes then fell on another kunoichi who undoubtedly had to go through similar trials. She was definitely not someone she had ever met before. ‘Grey skin?’ she pondered quietly. There was only one clan she could think of that had that certain… trait. “Well, I guess we’re all going to have to work together to get out of this mess,” she said out loud, and turned back around so she was facing the water. Then, that voice that had to belong to the one who started everything that happened in the day arrived with impeccable timing. He, or it, spoke with words concerning this trial-- the final trial. As soon as his words described the next trial before leaving again. “So, we’re going to have to shed blood to get out of here again. Aozame and… you, whoever you are. Let’s do our best to work together.”

After Teru finished speaking, the timely opening of the doors on the other side of the last room alerted her that the test was about to commence. Three D-ranked fighters had come through, making Teru clench her bloodied fists. The bone knife in her right hand was held tightly, ready to cut into any foe that its wielder might face. “Three on three,” the Uchiha muttered, hunkering down a bit with her left hand on her left knee. All looked capable in her eyes, but she was certain that her ‘team’ could pull through. But, before doing anything, Teru shot a glance to Aozame. “By the way, I don’t take orders from those who haven’t proved themselves to me,” following those words was a wink. Her eyes fell back on the enemy trio across the water, just in time to witness a Raiton technique being fired her way. Teru clenched her teeth and dashed forward, leaning hard to the left so the lightning arrow zipped passed her torso. She stifled a gasp, having felt the tingle of electricity through her body as the attack was avoided. ‘I’d better be careful once I get close enough,’ she mentally sighed, and lept over the water to land on the first platform.

"Here I come," she muttered, staring the rivaling female who stood just up ahead from her. As Aozame had said, she was going to take on the shark man, leaving the other two to Teru and the Jugo girl. It was up to Teru to do away with the Raiton kunoichi, but she didn't object. As long as it meant getting free, she would work with these new allies of hers to fight any enemy who threatened her life.

The white-haired kunoichi lowered her arms and spotted Teru, who was preparing herself for the worst. "Heh," she cackled, then followed the Uchiha's movements by leaping onto the first platform on her side. Both were quiet only for a moment, having waited no longer than a minute before jumping from the platforms they stood on to rush at each other. On the second and third platform, both girl pulled a fist back-- Teru's right with the "claw" ready to strike, and the hit squad kunoichi with her bare fist. Following that, they both jumped forward, meeting midair with an attack. "Tch!"

"Ngh," Teru gritted her teeth as both attacks went passed each other. Her opponent was slashed across the collarbone, leaving a shallow cut, while Teru was punched in the cheek. The force had her falling back to the platform, where she rubbed the sore spot on her cheek after having been hit fairly hard. The kunoichi grumbled some colorful words before rushing in again to meet Teru on her platform. Teru locked eyes with the kunoichi, then quickly ducked to avoid another swing of the fist. "I'm not backing down just yet!"

Unhappy with the task previously she would walk through the room making it passed the gruesome trial. Her hair brushed back as a slight breeze came in through the door. Walking down she smelled something, what was that slight smell, it had to be water, the fragrance was distinct. The area she had walked into was dark, there was no way to clarify at the moment but she could just tell, that was the scent of water. The air also felt damp, as if it was blanketing around her skin, she was now sure, the man had taken to an area with water. With this thought the lights would flicker on revealing the occupants of the room and what the next challenge would be. The room illuminated, the area revealed to be some room filled with water and platforms on it, this seemed to be a challenge on the physical side. In the open room she was free to see the other girls who were stuck in this situation like her, she would look them over to get a grasp of her partners. A woman who appeared to be shark like in nature, that was surely interesting, never had she met someone like that. And the other was an Uchiha, at least that's what she found out based of the rambling of the Hoshigaki. She understood now, giving a bright chuckle before smiling to the other girls, she spoke in her friend unfitting matter. "Nice to meet y'all, I'm Oreiko, glad to see why this makes sense." These had to be to be the teammates she was supposed to meet, just a shot in the dark but it seemed obvious. "A shark, a girl with killer eyes, me a rampaging monster and what i assume to be a sadistic bastard who has something to do with this team. I look forward to working with you fellow my fellow monsters." she laughed.

With this their challenge would appear, the speakers roaring to life as a group of people stepped forth from across the room. The cold words of the bastard that kidnapped them echoed from the speakers throughout the room. Of course this was fitting for what the previous challenges were and that was sure. Fighting to the death with a group of people seemed appropriate, they were experienced together, and by the sounds of it were murdering scum. That means the Jugo would have no qualms killing the people before them, but would they be able to kill them all. She was sure she could kill one of them if she was by herself, but these guys had teamwork, they knew how to make up for others weaknesses. They would prepare for the fight, what types of moves would they pull off against them, all she knew is it would require her to keep an eye on her teammates. She didn't know their skills or qualifications, she had the ability to inflict massive damage and heal them if they were wounded but she would just have to observe. With the drop of the hat both sides would step into battle moving to attack them all. first it would start with arrows heading towards them why the two melee ones drew closer.

"I get you guys know how to fight but be careful, they know how to work together and we don't, now don't be stupid and make sure to keep an eye on everything."
She smirked, her fangs glaring, she then uttered one last phrase before preparing to head into combat. "Alright, let's show these bastards what a group of monsters can do."

She would attempt to jump above the arrow that had headed towards her, as she saw the man with water running on the wall she would run towards him. As she moved closer she would use her raging cannon, she sent an explosive ball of chakra towards him, then she would hop on the wall, chakra flowing on around her feet allowing her to walk on the wall. Charging towards the man she would attempt to claw and punch him. Her attacks fast and vigorous, while keeping an eye on her teammates and enemies. She had learned to prepare for the worse, she needed to see how they fought, how they reacted, it was important when fighting more experienced teams.

Sero sat back from his 'project' as the screen began to light up with combat. It wasn't great quality but he didn't need it to be. For the moment he wanted to watch how these girls shifted to an evolving situation. Anyone could turn a team fight into a straight up power match but typically there was a key to be found in taking down an enemy team. Some ace up their sleeve they were hidden that would need to become the focus point of annihilation if they were to survive. However their team lacked that coordination at the moment. They would need to learn how to work together in order to survive and overwhelm the enemy. Truth was the enemies focus point and coincidentally team lead was about to reveal herself as such. As it was they had separated into one on one fights but it wasn't likely to stay like that for long. The team he had set them against was far too focused to fall in line like that as specialists. He had hinted at such when he pointed out they specialized in single target elimination tactics. He had proven far too capable for them but had they taken him on in his genin days he may of been beaten himself. No; this fight was right on the verge of a dramatic shift. Even if it appeared his squad was winning with one enemy down they had no idea what was coming.

The shark mans neck snapped and a small trail of blood escaped his mouth. His thoughts drifted and began to darken as he drowned unable to move his body as he was dragged along. Aozame had proven she was superior rather quickly in a one on one fight with her surprise use of raiton but he was still dying slowly. Yet panic was not taking over his mind. Her guard was lowered and she had halted her attack short of actually dealing a death blow. Breaking a neck usually meant your opponent was done...unless one had a capable med nin on their team. He smirked a little as the light began to fade from his eyes and his gaze shifted to the platform above. The shift was coming. As soon as they hit the surface the female of the enemy group looked over and sighed jumping back a platform for space. The smelly one had already used up his time and needed her assistance. Quickly as she launched backwards she lifted her right hand and a green orb formed before she threw it at Aozame and her victim. Directly over them the green orb burst and green flecks of light filtered down over them harmlessly. Yet as they did the shark mans body jerked and with a sickening snap his neck fell back into place. The moment it did the man formed a single hand sign and a burst of bubbled from the water flew up all around them cutting off vision for a second and unless Aozame had a defense it would shove her up against the shore and break her grip on him. When the bubble fell he would have faded from view. The moment he resurfaced though he was re-positioned and monstrously larger. That healing orb had forced a transformation on him as well. However his resurface had happened right behind the platform Teru was on and his massive scaled arm would sweep out to try and spike her full speed from behind at the far wall away from her allies. As that happened the Hozuki fighting Oreiko would punch the wall and cause the water on his fists to slam down in a spiral into the water below to create an orb of water to wash up around Oreiko and seal her there. A simple D rank but enough for the Hozuki to pursue Teru whether she took the hit and was flung at the wall or if she managed to dodge and lifted his spiked fist. Pointing it at her as water spikes flung from it...three of them at ten meters per second that could punch an inch deep aimed at her legs. This was their team work. The leader provided transformations and healing while the other two focused down a single target at a time.

Her head spinning, as the blows to her head became more of a nuisance than anything, she shook it off. A headache was the least of her problems. She had some sadistic maniac trying to make them fight to the death, Aozame was enraged that she had to go through these tests for no reason. This man gave them no purpose, nothing to work toward other than their own safety. Were they even guaranteed their safety at all, most likely not. This was a game orchestrated by a sick minded creator, and they weren't leaving easily. Why had the Uchiha shown up as well, and the other one, the Jugo. Why were they here, she wondered to herself. Dragging the body of the arrogant Hoshigaki up to the top, taking quite a while despite it being easier to lift weight underwater, he was still a large man. Tasting victory, knowing that they had this in the bag, she couldn't help but feel that it was too easy. That for some reason there was more to this puzzle than they perceived. Aozame swam up and breached the surface with the golden Hoshigaki in tow and surveyed the area. Teru was locked in a fist fight and Aozame couldn't see the other one. The girl Teru was fighting looked towards Aozame before she jumped backwards, releasing a green orb of energy right over the water. Aozame knew immediately that something was wrong, as the orb burst overhead flicking down onto Aozame and the golden Hoshigaki, she knew things were about to get harder quickly. She pushed away from the Hoshigaki as she began to swim towards the other two victims of this puzzle, but it was already too late. She hadn't even turned around quick enough before she heard a violent snap behind her head. She turned around to catch a glimpse of the golden Hoshigaki forming a single hand sign, before a bubble of water burst out and eclipsed her view for a moment, before bursting and sending her flying backwards. Aozame was thrown back towards the edge of the pool, a few meters from the Uchiha as she noticed that he was now gone. Knowing that this had just gone from bad to worse, she swam to the other side of the pool, as the shark man leaped up and re positioned. He was now monstrously large and unbearably vicious looking, Aozame thought to herself in a panic, cursing herself for taking it too quickly, she knew it seemed too good to be true that it was that easy.

The Hoshigaki was right behind Teru now, looking for blood and seeking out the already occupied individual. Aozame didn't know what to do, and more trouble was on the way. The Hozuki had trapped the Jugo inside a water prison for the time being, and he was now on his way over to the Uchiha also. She remembered what the man said, that these people were dangerous because they knew how to work together. Feeling a pang of guilt for running off on her own, she had now one other person trapped and another about to be shark bait. She tried to think of a way to help, she swam towards the other girl, racking her brain with anything that could help. She knew she had to pin them down somehow, and then it clicked. She quickly got into range and formed the hand signs for Water Release: Wild Water Wave, yelling to Teru "Behind you, Uchiha!" then spewing water in the direction of the Hoshigaki. The Uchiha was capable of dodging the Hozuki, but that Hoshigaki needed to be pinned down at all costs. He seemed to be the strongest out of them all. She glanced over to see the Hozuki shoot out from his arm right towards Teru, hopefully Teru could dodge these without a problem, as Aozame quickly took stock of the situation she had misread from the beginning. Teru needed to dodge, and they needed to get the Jugo outside so she could rain some havoc quickly.

It was all becoming hectic, and she didn’t know what else to do other than follow the instructions of that man whom she had yet to meet properly. Ever since she first woke up, strapped to a chair, she had a certain feeling deep in the pit of her stomach. And now that she was locked in combat with this team of strangers, that feeling was getting stronger. The corner of Teru’s lip twitched once as her opponent moved away from her before she could attempt for another assault. At first, she thought that the sole female from the enemy team was trying to simply get away. But, that was not the case. Teru watched with wary eyes as her opponent moved back to a separate platform over the water. “Wha…” she huffed under her breath as a green orb was thrown her way. As soon as it burst and released small lights that rained down, Teru’s eyes narrowed until she heard a loud snap sounded from behind her. Turning around, her eyes noticed Aozame nearby, and then they fell on the man who was also of the Hoshigaki. “Medical jutsu….” Teru’s words trailed off as she locked her sights onto the one who cast it. She knew that the one she had pursued at the beginning of the battle was going to have to be the one taken down first. Otherwise, the battle was going to be cycling for a very long time.

Teru inhaled a deep breath and crouched down to the ground; she glanced to her right and left while her ears listened to the commotions around her. Her knuckled tapped against the hard wood of the platform as a splashing behind her sounded. From the Jugo, Aozame, and their opponents, she thought. Her heart was pounding, and her blood was rushing much faster than before. But, her lips curved upward into a smile. “Even though we are in a tight spot, I know we can get out of this,” she said in a low tone. “I’d better regroup with the other two so we can-”

"Behind you, Uchiha!"

Her ears perked when the sound of her ally’s voice called out to her. “What?” Teru snapped her eyes around, just in time to catch sight of the Hoshigaki with an altered form. She bit her tongue and pushed her feet off of the platform to jump over his head, dodging the attack. Another attack sent her way, however, let Teru know that she was being targeted at that moment. This second assault was not from the Hoshigaki, but the other male who was in hot pursuit of her with some sort of needle attack. Seeing this go into effect, Teru tightly gripped the makeshift knife in her hand, ready to use it for defending herself. “Hmph!” She was able to deflect all but one of them. The last one that made it past her effort dug itself into her right thigh, causing for her to gasp in pain. But, she wasn’t out of the battle just yet. The wave of water generated by Aozame would be used as a cover for Teru to dive into the water and swim back to the first platform with strong strokes.

The moment she resurfaced, Teru climbed onto the platform with a hand pressed on her wound. Her eyes held an anger suppressed by patience. The teamwork that was being used against them was proving to be a troublesome act. While she had a couple ideas of what she could do to help bring the situation under control, she was going to need assistance from both of her comrades. “Aozame, any ideas on how to get her out of that trap?” Teru projected her voice to the Hoshigaki on her team, but she did not look away from where the enemies were. She couldn’t let her guard down so carelessly.

Sero

S-rank
Sero paused as he watched the screen displaying the fight between the two squads. The stitch job on the man he had been torturing done poorly but functional. He had seared the wound from further bleeding but he wanted to close it up for the time being. Utilize the man for more entertaining story time later. After all the man had already delivered four renditions of the same story each different from the last. Information wasn't lining up and each time Sero suspected the man was holding out on him punishment was due. If the man did not finish before the sands finished draining he was punished. At this point the man had foamed at the mouth and passed out though so Sero could ignore him for the time being. He felt no remorse as his blood soaked fingers tied a knot in the stitches before slicing the thin wire with a fingernail. His new squad thought they had won at first having dispatched one enemy before any of them could receive a wound. However as it was they had not predicted the team work provided against them by a nearly elite team as far as genin went. An important lesson to learn was now in effect. Never underestimate an opponent and kill them all. Had she done more than break a neck and sliced his throat from ear to ear he likely would at least be having issues breathing still. Truly a pity she hadn't. Still he would watch the fight as his red fingers reached out and picked up his tea cup. Red staining the outside of the white cup as he sipped his beverage. How would they get out of this one?

He watched as the tides turned rather abruptly. Enjoying the faded smell of mint and honey though he could not taste it. He had heard this was perhaps the most popular tea mix at the shops he was banned from. Still he assumed it was good and continued to sip on it. So Aozame had seen what was about to happen and charged forward while all three enemies converged one the Uchiha. It was a bit of a pleasant surprise when she managed to avoid the initial blow and deflect the secondary attack almost entirely. However that was merely an almost. She had been hit in the thigh. A debilitating wound if it hit the right spot. In his experience a hole in the muscles of a leg meant large amounts of pain. However his eyes were drawn to something else as the wave of water crashed across the room. Shaking the entire thing as waves crashed against all the surfaces and the enemy was flung back while Aozame and Teru would be flung back to their side. Dust would shake off the poorly placed together brick walls on either side and above Sero the Chandelier providing light swayed as shadows played across his face. The Jugo was leaving. His dead gaze watched patiently as one finally fled. Their medic had run away and abandoned them and so this fight was lost. With a leg wound like that and the enemy still having a medic and now superior numbers, Aozame and Teru would be quickly decimated if this continued. He supposed it was time for him to introduce himself.

Sero rose from his seat and set his tea cup down. Silently and patiently he placed his hands in a bowl of water and calmly washed off the less resistant blood. Still his pale fingers were dyed red for the time being. He himself was in a pair of black pants with combat boots and a blue/grey vest that resembled the ANBU vest highly. Over that he was wearing a lab coat he had claimed from someone else some time ago with a hole in the back right about heart level and blood long since stained around it. Around the hems of the sleeves and the bottom were splotches of dried and new blood too. Still he dried off his hands and moved across the room. He neared the door and quietly turned the handle. From inside the enemy team hoisted itself out of the water and prepared to utilize a unified attacking front on the remaining two. Some three man combination jutsu in retribution for the jutsu that just crashed into them all. However all three froze and looked behind them as something began to happen. The light in the room seemed to slowly begin to dim as a black mist seemed to seep out around the door and coat it before crawling along like tendrils and slowly blackening the wall. The room would suddenly be filled with a sense of dread as the now barely lit room would feel like on the other side of the door, death itself was coming. An Apex predator here to kill them all as the last bit of light in the room was dimmed. The door creaked open and in walked or almost glided as young man with grey eyes as dead as the grave looking to everyone there. Each time that gaze fell on a person it would feel like it was looking through them, Seeing every secret they wished to hide and violating their inner most privacy. Still Sero spoke as he walked passed the now cowering enemy squad.

"You did as I asked and pushed them to their limits. I would accept this as a win for you. One is wounded and their medic has fled while all three of you are in good health. Run now as we agreed. If you should operate in my territory again, there will be no second chances for you. I will bury you." His eyes looked to the three now as they looked away. No doubt registering there. Simple terror was all they knew of this man. He had wiped all three out in an instant and they were not eager to test him again. Still as they got up and ran as fast as they could out of the room Sero turned to Aozame and Teru as he slid those red fingers of his casually into his pockets. "Introductions than. I am Osada Sero Jr. Jounin rank and member X-32 of the ANBU corp. Code name Mercy. I am to be your new instructor. Would you like refreshments?" His voice held no emotion and never changed pitch. A dull noise like the dead speaking. No part of him seemed alive. Not his pale skin, his dull voice nor his never blinking grey eyes that held no shine in the dim light yet seemed to be seen ever so clearly.

Aozame watched in a grab bag of emotion. Fear, unease, guilt, you name it and she felt it. She noticed that the Jugo had escaped, but wasn't anywhere to be seen. She probably ran as soon as she saw it turn south due to Aozame's negligent so called leading. She kept the wave going for a bit longer before dispersing it, watching the Uchiha dodge two of the three projectiles, but the third driving directly into her thigh. As she dove into Aozame's water, she dispersed it. Allowing the Uchiha to return to the platform, as she clutched her right thigh to help keep the wound closed. Aozame started to question if this was possible, one was wounded, and another was no where to be seen. Could she keep this up? Could they keep it up was the question here at stake. It was down to her and Teru to find a way out. This time, Aozame couldn't see one. “Aozame, any ideas on how to get her out of that trap?” Teru spoke to her for advice, even though the first plan she devised had led to the start of their downfall. She didn't even realize the Jugo left them. Aozame spoke, softly but loud enough for Teru to hear. "Don't ask me. I'm not a leader, I shouldn't have made a call." as the other team was circling them now. "I set us up for failure by trying to divide and conquer. And I've failed." Aozame was talking to herself, now, not Teru. She spoke and gritted her teeth, jumping onto the platform Teru was on. Standing beside her, readying Shakusukin. As the other team circled slowly, readying an attack, a strange thing happened. Black mist started to creep through the doorway on  the far side, seeping into the room and filling it with an aura of death. The room began to darken, as the only light came from the doorway where an average sized individual stepped through. He was a dull man, in color more than personality, since his aura was the one that gave off the feeling of death. He spoke, not to Aozame or Teru, but to the other squad of ninja. "You did as I asked and pushed them to their limits. I would accept this as a win for you. One is wounded and their medic has fled while all three of you are in good health. Run now as we agreed. If you should operate in my territory again, there will be no second chances for you. I will bury you." This was the man coming through the speaker, and the one that made them go through these tests, seeing the person who did this to them angered Aozame, but all it did to the other genin was make them afraid. All three of the shinobi were in unison, fearful and confused. They all got up and ran from the room as fast as they could, looking back only to make sure their full squad was with them. After they were gone, and Aozame stood with Teru on the platform, the dull grey man turned towards them now, his attention seemingly always on something behind them and never them themselves. He spoke with the dull voice he had, and said "Introductions than. I am Osada Sero Jr. Jounin rank and member X-32 of the ANBU corp. Code name Mercy. I am to be your new instructor. Would you like refreshments?" Aozame could not believe what she was hearing. She had never seen Sero before, but had heard stories of him. Why was he the one to lead them, why did all of this happen to Aozame, what was the reasoning for it all? The emotionless man stood there, almost in a mockingly way if he could show that on his face. Aozame screeched out with a rage "What the hell is going on, Sero? Why are we here?" Aozame wanted to say more, but she was so overcome with rage that words didn't seem comprehensible right at that moment. She was hoping that Teru had something to say, and she would wait for replies from either of them before saying another word.

Uchiha Teru

Uchiha Teru

Teru was having mixed feelings during the trial. The progression of it was certainly looking bleak for Teru and Aozame. As for their other cohort, she was lucky to have found a way out. Although, her reaction to that was a bit delayed... While it left them at a great disadvantage, Teru was fine with it. One ally being safe from harm put a piece of her at ease. "Don't ask me. I'm not a leader, I shouldn't have made a call." Teru heard Aozame say this, but she nodded in understanding. "I set us up for failure by trying to divide and conquer. And I've failed." What they had been put through was a rough challenge, and the hopes of winning were quickly dwindling. The calls that were made did put them in quite the jam, but they were still alive. Lacking in manpower, but living. But, despite all that had happened, Teru didn't blame the Hoshigaki. "It's fine, Aozame. You might not think so, but I do," Teru breathed, her eyes shifting to her partner in battle as she found her way to the platform. Their enemies weren't attacking just yet, so she used the time to say something. "We'd be able to take them out, if we were strong enough. Dividing and conquering was fine, but we just didn't know of what they were capable of. So don't blame yourself for what happened." On an unspoken note, Teru had some blame out for herself. She should have properly determined working methods and shared them with her teammates. If she had done that, then perhaps it would have been possible to beat, at least, two of the three. She would possibly have been uninjured if there was a better course of action, as well. But, no, a more negative turn was taken. They all contributed to it, though. One person could not have it all pinned on them for that.

Teru's eyes fell on the trio intent on destroying them. They were going to pull another one of their teamwork tricks again, she assumed. She wanted to fight back and put them all down, but even she had to acknowledge the poor chances of doing that. "This really bites," she muttered under her breath, wincing a little as a pain throbbed in her leg. The needle in her leg was an annoyance to deal with, but recklessly pulling it out would have been a mistake. It was hurting her, but she dealt with it. She expected them to strike at any moment, but something odd prevented the next assault from happening. Teru's eyes scanned everywhere, noticing that the fighting grounds had darkened. On the other side of the area, where the only significant source of light was. The dark mist flowing inside the room was an unpleasant effect. A man had stepped inside-- a man with a subduing air around him. Teru was quiet as she heard him speak. His words were not directed to her, or her comrade. They were directed to the opposing side. "You did as I asked and pushed them to their limits. I would accept this as a win for you. One is wounded and their medic has fled while all three of you are in good health. Run now as we agreed. If you should operate in my territory again, there will be no second chances for you. I will bury you." That voice of his was one that she recognized. How familiar he sounded made Teru realize that it was the man who spoke to them throughout the trials they faced. That had to have meant that he was responsible for everything regarding the trouble they were put through. He was menacing, mostly to the three who went and cowered away. Teru remained quiet, even when his gaze had moved to her and Aozame. "Introductions than. I am Osada Sero Jr. Jounin rank and member X-32 of the ANBU corp. Code name Mercy. I am to be your new instructor. Would you like refreshments?"

Sero was a name she had heard of during her lifetime, and it had given her chills at a time. She had never met the man personally, until now. It was a great shock that left her speechless. He was supposed to be the one leading her and Aozame, as a team leader. Teru held her breath for a moment and let herself absorb this sudden intrusion of information. She had a lot to think about. And, she hoped that Aozame would be able to, too, as she tried to keep her frustration inside. "I... don't really know what to think about this," she finally said after exhaling a shaky breath. "All of this was sudden, but..." Teru paused for a moment, hoping to find the right words to say. Now that things had calmed down, she was able to focus better. In that time of focus, though, her attention would occasionally remind her of the previous trial. The blood she had on her person, and in her mouth, was still there. When she could better come up with something to say, she would speak of them at a later time. His offer for refreshments was sounding like a great opportunity to get cleaned up. Teru sighed and glanced over to Aozame, then back to Sero. "Some refreshments would be great..."

Sero watched as the team fled from him. He could recall when they had arrived on his island with the sole purpose of taking him down with team tactics. Had they been closer to his level they may have had a chance but as it was they were decimated in moments. At first as he held them as captives they tried escapes and even surprise assassinations. Enough so that he had been impressed with their creativity and resolve. However given a minute with someone he could inflict enough pain that they would never forget having crossed him. Oh but with weeks alone with him they gradually learned who was the true monster there. Each attempt met with whatever pain he could imagine for the day. Skin would grow back and broken bones could be reset and unset once more. Repeating it over and over again. In the beginning they cursed his name...then they began to beg but it wasn't until recently that they had given in and merely mewled at his attentions pathetically with no remaining hope of escape from such a hellish place. However they had survived much and so Sero had given them a chance to get away. One they had taken with near madness.

Still he watched them run away the way a child does as his toys are donated to someone else or tossed out. A play thing that he would likely never touch again. However something else would draw his attention as the door closed behind the three. His head would snap back around and he would suddenly be looking directly at Aozame. It held no doubt that his attention was fully on her. She was yelling at him? Of all people to raise one's voice too she had picked him. A frown painted itself on those pale lips finally giving character to his face before suddenly he was across the room. The water began to split and fall back in on itself well after his passing as it splashed back and forth violently. Now he was face to face with Aozame with his head tilted as he studied her eyes. This close she would be able to see no life in those eyes. As if they were as dull as the eyes of the dead staring into her own seeking out her soul. A communion with the reaper of Kiri in that moment. Blood, old and new would be the scent that filled their nostrils as that aura seemed to choke the room away from them. As if the room itself was drawing inwards and fading into a little black box.

A single pale hand rose with a claw like nail on it stained a deep red. It hovered in front of Aozame's face a moment before a small grey mist swirled around his finger taking the form of a wolves head almost about to bite her before he paused. He spoke once as to be heard by both of them. "You are here because it is where I chose for you to be...if you take that tone with me again though...my efforts not to permanently harm you may have been done in vain." Suddenly he would tilt his head again and sniff as the water senbon in Teru's leg faded away. He could smell it. The blood now seeping out of her wound. His nostrils flared as if he had forgotten she was wounded and slowly a sick smile played on those lips. He spoke once more. "For now you pass. Your gear is on a table in the next and last room. Next to the tea. Refresh and regain your items before you take your team mate to a med nin. When you return...Pick a room on the second floor. You live here now and answer to me when I call. Stay off the top floor and you will live. As for the next lesson. On this island is a man named Kensei Uchiha. Find him and fight him individually. If either of you beat him I have a reward for you. If he takes both of you down...he receives it so he is highly motivated. Aside from that I will be waking you early in the morning if I have to rip you out through the wall." With that speech he looked to Teru with a small, lifeless smile almost like pity before he suddenly pressed the wolf to her thigh without warning. Steam and burnt flesh erupted from the spot before with a chuckle Sero was gone again. He had seared the wound closed. Still he was given pause as he settled on the top floor of his estate. His students had shown limitations and now he wondered how they would grow. His pale finger tapped at his chin in thought. Oh how he would have to get creative now. After this event he would need to press them in order for them to grow if they didn't intend to flee. He would almost suspect that was going through their heads now. No part of what he had put them through could be considered anything less than abusive. In order to get out they would have to take one of the paths they had come from and review their work. See the dead men who they had chosen survival over. As for the two men they had spared. He reached over and clicked on a tv as a security monitor flickered to life and grey eyes watched as two men who had been meant to die were escaping into the woods. So they would become a problem later he supposed. Perhaps that would be something he would have them handle when they became chunnin. Two out of three of them had failed to realize anyone he was putting to death on the island he had permission to do with as they pleased. Kiri did not take prisoners so the two men escaping now had been sentenced to death. Murderers and good ones at that. He would let them flee for now simply because they served a greater purpose later on. He would allow the girls the comfort of not knowing until later and at that point. They would kill their mistakes.

Aozame glared towards Sero with a rage, accumulating deeper and deeper into her core. She stared him down as his face turned instantly towards her. She watched as he frowned, looking directly at her, then he was in front of her. It took her a second to realize he was no longer where he originally stood, and was no in front of her. The water behind him taking a split second to catch up to where he was no, after he ran across. Sero and Aozame stared each other down, Aozame feeling his gaze significantly more than he felt hers, although she didn't back down quite yet. Giving in to his stare meant accepting the fact that he was stronger, which she knew wholeheartedly, but refused to accept him looking at her like mere cannon fodder. He spoke with the dull voice of his "You are here because it is where I chose for you to be...if you take that tone with me again though...my efforts not to permanently harm you may have been done in vain." Sero summoned what looked like a wolfs head in his head, made of some sort of gas, as it turned towards her. She still stared at Sero, showing that she acknowledged him and that she respected him. He quickly turned his head, glancing down at Teru. Their stare down becoming dismissed, she looks down to see a wound on Teru's leg. The water senbon had disappeared finally and now it began to bleed. She became a bit worried, as Sero said "For now you pass. Your gear is on a table in the next and last room. Next to the tea. Refresh and regain your items before you take your team mate to a med nin. When you return...Pick a room on the second floor. You live here now and answer to me when I call. Aside from that I will be waking you early in the morning if I have to rip you out through the wall." the words he spoke flowed through Aozame the way a sickness does, almost crippling her desire. She realized this was really happening. Before anyone could think, the wolf on Sero's hand was thrust into Teru's wound. Steam, burnt flesh, a strong stench of burning skin, it all happened so quickly. Sero was gone as well, they were alone while Teru was in pain. Aozame quickly grabbed Teru, hoisted her around her shoulder as they both headed towards the closest medical ninja, hoping they could fix Teru's leg with no problem. Their journey with Sero has only begun, and it wasn't going to get any easier from here.

With Sero's timely arrival, there was no need to worry about the squad of skilled teammates. They were no longer going to be a problem, Teru had thought. But then she felt great unease now that she and Aozame were left in his presence. Her eyes never left him. She wondered if she could truly trust him. He was not only the one who had saved them from being killed by the enemy, but he was also the one who dropped them into this pit of chaos and despair. While he had the exterior appearance of a human being, there was no doubt that some kind of monster lied within his soul. It was not an easy thing to accept. But, it didn't look as though she, or even Aozame, would have a say. Teru couldn't stop her heart from pounding in her chest, yet he wasn't even looking directly at her. His attention had gone to Aozame, who was standing right next to her. But the look in Sero's eyes were so... sinister, in her opinion. She couldn't possibly challenge that. Such an action would be suicidal and result in an inevitable demise.

Teru's eyes that held a faint hint of exhaustion could not keep up. It was as if he had vanished for a moment and then reappeared right before them. She had barely noticed that he was right there, staring at Aozame. The speed of his movement was incredible. Even more bone-chilling was the mist that formed at his hand, having shaped into a wolf's head. "You are here because it is where I chose for you to be...if you take that tone with me again though...my efforts not to permanently harm you may have been done in vain." The words that had escaped from his mouth were those of a leading figure. But, before she could be further focused on this dark figure, a stabbing ache in her leg had taken her attention away. Her eyes fell to her leg, where the senbon was embedded. It had faded away. But, now that it was gone, the blood was free to escape. The pain was great, but Teru bit her tongue and tried her best to not let it bother her. Aside from that I will be waking you early in the morning if I have to rip you out through the wall."

The moment she looked back up to Sero, her blood-covered hand had dropped as the wolf-shaped cloud-- whatever the substance was-- made contact with the wound on her leg. It burned her skin, painfully and relentlessly. She hadn't properly analyzed the substance before when it was threatening Aozame. But, this firsthand experience gave her the information that she needed. It wasn't just any cloud. The blasted wolf head was steam, and it was as hot as or hotter than the flames Teru could ever create. Her nose was still stuck on the stench of scorched flesh from before, but now it was flooding her senses. "Nngh..." Teru clenched her teeth in an effort to stifle the scream of agony threatening to break loose. The most that came out of her mouth was a gasp. Small beads of sweat had formed at her forehead and temple due to the great pain she was in; she was at the verge of tears. It ended quickly, but the sharp ache was going to stay present for a while until it could be properly healed. Teru cracked one of her eyes open as soon as it became slightly more bearable. She was expecting to see Sero with that smile of his again, but he was gone.

This wound inflicted upon her would not be one to heal correctly. It was going to leave a nasty scar and act as a constant reminder to this day. Teru exhaled a shaky breath as Aozame supported her out of the dreaded place. The torture was over for a time, but there would certainly be more trials to face in the near future. For now, Teru was going to get rested up as soon as she was given appropriate treatment for her wounds. She was glad to be getting out of that mess and still in one piece.
