Kurai sat on his piano stool, in the dojo his father had constructed for him. His love for training was recognized early, and his father decided to cultivate his passion. It would appear now that he had bloomed. Not fully of course, but it could be argued that this dojo had given him the foundation he needed to sprout strong. No doubt, there was plenty of room in the dojo for him to do just that. Kurai sat in the middle of the circular 30 meter radius indoor battle field. The building ascended about 30 meters high. Moonlight beams struck through the high glass windows adding a slight sparkle to the arena in addition to the sufficient indoor lighting.

Kurai reveled in the solace that would soon be no more, as a mummy was set to join him. Ironically, bringing life to the night. That was because this mummy was a character indeed. Having served time in an insane asylum and being a carrier of one of the most devastating elements known to legend. Vitality would be an understatement tonight. Futen had expressed quite a zeal in training with Kurai. Being cooped up in his cell had corroded his skills. I think I can sharpen them up. The poet played a few more tunes on the grand piano, swaying as he did so, allowing himself to obtain a different unison, one that couldn't quite be measured. It was knack, a sensation for battle. Even with Kurai's brilliance he still hadn't found the words to give his fighting prowess and keen awareness justice. But he felt it stemmed from his love of expression: writing, music... fighting was just another form for him.

He stood up from his stool and rolled it all the way across the dojo, pushing it into a side room that was just for his piano. There were many doors along the wall. Some were offices, that were occupied by employees during operating hours, others were locker rooms, and some held specialized training equipment. Kurai returned back near the center of the large clear dojo, awaiting his new acquaintance. It shouldn't be much longer... this will definitely be something to include in my journal.

Having been as close as possible to directly freeing him from the asylum, Fūten was in Kurai's debt. Even though that was so, he would be spending a fair amount of time with the boy not only for training, but out of pure interest. Kurai was likely an Uchiha in possession of a Sharingan, and that kind of power was one which Fūten preferred to keep on HIS side. He wasn't too fond of genjutsu, nor was he skilled at detecting and resisting such techniques. His Jinton mastery had it's perks and downfalls. He would be meeting his comrade at a Dojo which was owned by the man himself. A nice, private place for a spar. Fūten couldn't have been more pleased to be back out in the fresh open air. The warm sun felt lovely against his skin.

As he approached the picturesque building, he could hear music being played on a piano within it. Beautiful music, something he hadn't heard in years. He grinned as he made his way to the doors of the rather large facility before him. Upon the door his hand would gently knock three times, right as the final song ended. Fūten would stand in wait, re-wrapping his arms in a different way, suited more for sparring. He would be struggling today and he knew it. He body was already showing signs of fatigue, simply from walking about through town. He had slept on a bench that night, not having a proper home to return to, but he had bathed at the springs to stop himself from smelling like a hobo.

Kurai stood in the center of the dojo and watched as Futen entered. The new guest began wrapping, preparing himself for the spar to come. Silence filled the room briefly, as Kurai sized up Futen, he looked different not behind bars. Kurai took a few steps forwards raised his hand in greeting. "Futen, you came." Kurai wasn't surprised but eager. He had been looking forward to having a go with a man who spent in an insane asylum. For a person who requires adventure, requires stimulation, he couldn't really ask for more. "I hope you like the venue, I think it's perfect for a straightforward spar to get your non-asylum training on the right track." Present in Kurai conscience was the words that Futen spoke to him about the asylum dampening his skills. Even the poet wasn't sure if he would take that into account. There was no point in training with lackluster. If they were going to square off, they were going to do it right. "I'm sure many of your maneuvers will come back to you during the spar. I'm ready when you are." Kurai drew a single kunai, and wielded it at chest height.

The gentleman Kurai had confidence in Fūten's abilities. They were both excited to get into things, Kurai lifted a kunai to his own chest and prepared himself for combat. Fūten took this as a signal that he was ready to engage.

"Do not hold back, even if it gets bloody. We will each ensure the survival of the other."

With that being said, Fūten threw three senbon at Kurai, in three different places on his body. They were all three headed in a diagonal pattern, with the lowest of the three aimed toward his left thigh, the center heading for the center of his chest, and the third heading for the right upper arm. They were spaced about 2 meters apart in hopes that one would land no matter where he moved to avoid them.

As he threw them he jumped backwards, creating distance. He was them about seven meters away from Kurai at that point. He dug in his feet and stood in a readied combat position, his left hand clenched into fists a fist, and his right hand open, palm facing Kurai.

His movements weren't quite professional, this was the most strenuous thing he had engaged in since before he was imprisoned, but it was all coming back to him. His muscles were filling with lactic acid. The thrilling feeling of intensity surged through him, and it showed clearly in his eyes that he was getting a bit battle crazed.

Kurai's eyes gleamed at the first move made by Futen. It's really happening. His excitement rising. He stared forward at the three senbon launched forward, honing in on Kurai's frame. Futen used a diagonal pattern, targeting multiple areas with margin in between each projectile. The Uchiha subconsciously calculated the distance between each of them, and the necessary motion for dodging them. A prospective move, but there's too much space between the senbon (2 meters). The one that flew forward looking to dive into his chest was faced with his immediate attention, and only attention. Kurai would nonchalantly turn 90 degrees, the side of his body(right arm) now facing Futen. This would greatly reduce the available area for Futen's strikes to land. The senbon blazed pass his chest, only inches away from cutting him. Kurai held his kunai close to his stomach as he watched the senbon pass him, and the other projectiles as a result of Kurai's positioning, were embarrassingly off target.

I have no idea what he can do, but from the looks of it, he's careful, which is a dangerous trait by itself. Kurai slipped the kunai back into his pouch, and formed the rat hand seal. Allow me to get to know you better Futen. Kurai had decided this was a risky move, yet his best move nonetheless. Genjutsu was an optimum skill for testing your opponent skills out, and seeing what he has to offer while remaining safe usually. However, in this case, Kurai was using an illusion that spawned forth the target's greatest fear, and on an opponent as disturbed as Futen, that could possibly make him even more dangerous, but then again, that would likely make Futen reckless. The Genin took his chance.

His eyes focused on Futen as he infiltrated his chakra network, conjuring up his phobia. The diversionary phase of the illusion would kick up the dust trapping it in the rays of light. The dust would then spiral around Futen, signaling the beginning of the Genjutsu. Upon the start of the illusion (seeing your greatest fear), Kurai would draw all three of his kunai, then attach chakra strings to them and launch them at Futen, one aimed just wide of Futen and the other just high. The third one though, would go on track to pierce Futen in the abdomen. He was looking to take advantage of the initial shock and despair of coming to terms with his greatest fear, being forced to live it. The kunai that went wide and high would be pulled to come back and strike Futen from behind. Also, if the kunai that was on target for his flesh was deflected, Kurai would regain control of the deflected kuani and send it back at him.

Kurai assumed Futen's fear would be something like being hauled back into the Asylum, but a high security one where he would have to fester for the rest of his days, and he would have to look at himself become bloated, shaming his clan and the grandiosity of the dust release, as he crumbled to dust himself.

Whilst the senbon made there way toward Kurai, Fūten capitalized. In those few solitary seconds, Fūten dove into the ground using his Earth Style: Double Suicide Decapitation. As he did, he felt odd, a cyclone of dirt and grass, followed by the feeling of absolute fear. His body, locking up while he was burrowed safely beneath the ground. He watched as his body began to disintegrate into dust. There could be no possible way that Kurai could've been using Jinton on him. Fūten spared no time, and continued forward, burrowing beneath Kurai. With his mind aware of the illusion, he could still function despite seeing his limbs crumble away. He was forcing it to be so. With haste and force his arm broke through the surface and would reach out in an attempt to grasp Kurai by the ankle and pull him down up to his neck in earth.

Thoughts raced through his mind of how he was going to handle the situation before him. The fight had just gotten started, and he had already thrown out two of his tricks. Upon resurfacing he would Kai the genjutsu, which indeed had thrown off the speed at which he was intending to grab Kurai's feet. With his weakness to genjutsu and the bad timing at which the genjutsu had hit him, Kurai might have been able to decipher and dodge the Double Suicide Decapitation. Even so, the positioning at a closer range would help tremendously, as close quarters combat would now be possible.

This Kurai is worth more of his mettle than what I had anticipated. This is fun, nevertheless.

Before Kurai could unleash his kunais at Futen, actually, before he could even draw them, Futen went underground. He uses the earth element, must be one of the constituent elements of Dust Release. The Genin having seen Futen go underground, he was aware that there were really only two options Futen would choose. 1) He's stays underground, going defensive 2) Try to gain advantageous position behind me. Kurai would jump about 5 meters to his right and turn 90 degrees so his previous blind spot would be no more, in case Futen tried to emerge behind him. A break in the earth manifested, in the position Kurai was previously in. His goal was to grab me and drag me underground... what a useful technique.

Kurai peered at Futen's attempt at burying Kurai. The mummy resurfaced. Kurai still wanted to play before entering close quarters combat. Upon Futen's likely confusion at not seeing Kurai where he expected to see him, and still likely reeling slightly from the effects of the Genjutsu, since he was still in the illusion upon resurfacing, but soon after he could feel his control dissipate. Right as his illusion was broken, Kurai drew his three kunai and attached chakra strings again and threw them at Futen. Kurai aimed one about 2 feet wide and another 2 feet high. The third (all thrown simultaneous) was aimed at Futen abdomen. The two that were purposely off target, after passing Futen (or deflected for some reason) would change direction and aim to cut Futen's back (if deflected will likely be aimed at lower body). Also, if the one aimed at the abdomen was dodged or deflected would also be manipulated to strike Futen again.

Fūten bursted from the ground, and upon not grasping a leg in his hand, he knew he had been off mark. He was highly disoriented, even having kai'd the genjutsu moments before. The next thing he knew, upon locating Kurai, was that he had tossed three kunai at him, two off mark for trapping, just as the senbon had been, and one directly center. Time for me to use YOUR tricks against you, Kurai." Fūten, with his exceptional reflexes, would wait until the kunai was seemingly too close to avoid, and the. Would fein being hit, but as he did he would turn his body in the direction the kunai was heading, as if suffering some sort of impact force, then he would hold tight to the kunai while preparing a his Ancient Power technique. All of this happened in such a quick instance, all in one 360 degree motion. As he reached a position facing Kurai again, he would ignore the positioning of the other two kunai for the few seconds he had, and launch his Jinton attack at Kurai.

At five meters between them, the sphere would be traveling far too fast(30 m/s over 5 meters=Far less than even a second to react. Add in the fact that the sphere would be larger that Kurai by the time it reached him) for Kurai to dodge. The hope was all based on Kurai being so littered with 3 inch deep cuts that he forgot about the kunai he had on the strings. Otherwise Fūten would not be prepared to dodge the two behind him, and would be feeling the pain.

The kunai that was set to threaten Futen directly would appear to lesser eyes to have hit its target, but with Kurai's keen attention to details he was able to discern otherwise. The actor would spin 360 degrees still playing on the performance of being hit. Kurai planned to make him pay after seemingly disregarding the other two kunai on chakra strings that flew passed him. Just as Kurai was about to maneuver his fingers to manipulate ALL THREE KUNAI, a new development in the fight arose, the introduction of Dust Release...

The blast that advanced forward destroyed his chakra strings... I knew I should have infused more chakra into them... It was too late now, his ability to manipulate the projectiles was no more. All Kurai could worry about now, was the scarring blast that rumbled forward for his frame. Kurai with almost no time to process his next move, he, purely off instinct, caused the most subtle shift in the uppermost layer of the surface he stood on. Kurai shifted himself at a startling speed of 35 m/s and 10 meters to his right. The size of Futen's attack and the distance at which it was released would conceal Kurai's actions. The Uchiha's escape would be at the very last second, and that wasn't by choice. As Kurai came to a halt, his eyes immediately focused on Futen who had his attention forward. Kurai drew and launched 2 senbon, one aimed for the left thigh, and one aimed for the abdomen. Futen would likely not even know that Kurai had dodged (given the area of his own jutsu and the speed of Kurai's), let alone locate him before he would initiate his projectile strike. Kurai was about 11 meters away from Futen when he released the senbon. If Futen recognized the 2 senbon that were coming from an angle to his left, he would likely locate them midway from hitting their target, putting his dulled reflexes to the test.

The worst fear of Fūten's had arrived. His ace in the hole had missed. It took him longer than it should have to notice that Kurai had just barely moved out of the projectiles path by using some form of advanced taijutsu. The large sphere missed Kurai, hitting the back wall of the Dojo and crumbling the wall. Fūten didn't notice until the very final moment he had available to him, that two senbon were coming through the air at him and were at a point that he could only dodge one. He lifted a leg and spun to avoid one of them, but took the other directly to his chest. He groaned, knowing it was going to land before it did, and clenched his teeth in pain. He took the pain and channeled it into aggression, reaching a boiling point, and knowing his chakra was running thin, Fūten pulled out his last card.

He sprinted forward, bleeding slightly from the wound in his chest, he then pulled the senbon from his chest and as he sprinted toward Kurai, closing the gap between them quickly, he threw the senbon back at him, before stopping, sliding across the ground slightly due to his high momentum, he then pulled back his fist and attempted to slam it directly into the face of his opponent. This technique left only a few options for Kurai, as the man would either  be receiving a punch or a senbon, dodging both would be very difficult.

One of the senbon Kurai threw pierced Futen's chest, causing him to bleed. Kurai's sharp eyes could see the rage filling up inside the ancient mummy. Just as I expected, he's getting reckless. I knew he couldn't keep up this composed routine for long. Kurai thought to himself with satisfaction. This was the moment he had been waiting for. His opponent had likely revealed all his major moves and was now frustrated, this was the perfect contraption for Kurai to now go on the offensive. It would seem that his offensive campaign would have to wait just a bit, as his frustrated opponent was barreling ahead quite fast. As Futen closed the distance he snatched the senbon that was lodged in his chest out, and threw the bloody needle back at Kurai. It was obvious this was to serve as a distraction to set up a close range assault, if it wasn't, Futen wouldn't be rushing forward so vehemently, he was trying to get in close, and he was using the senbon as a facilitator. Well then...

Kurai extended his left palm and expelled earth chakra from his skin, letting it pour out onto the floor rapidly, and forming a nice sized boulder. The boulder served four purposes. 1) to act as a barrier between him and the projectile 2) to act as a barrier between him and Futen 3) to obscure Futen's vision of him, possibly creating a surprise attack from behind the boulder and 4) to use as a substitution later on. Kurai infused 5 chakra into the boulder, as a last hope defensive option, even though at this point it seemed unlikely he would be reduced to the maneuver, he decided to reside on the side of caution.

Right as the boulder was created, Kurai skipped back about 10 meters and drew two more senbon. The boulder blocked the senbon with ease. Also, Futen no longer had a straight route to Kurai. If Futen ran around the boulder in order to continue his pursuit of Kurai, as soon as Futen appeared around the boulder, he would launch the two senbon at Futen's thigh region. If Futen jumped over the boulder, while Futen was airborne, Kurai would throw the two senbon at him, both aiming for the thigh region. If neither of the above scenarios occurred, Kurai would adjust to the best of his ability.

With a lack of chakra, and the battle seemingly going slightly negative for Fūten, he was beginning to wonder just how far his skills had fallen. He puffed up a bit in anger, a rock blocking his damage to damaging Kurai. This was becoming frustrating. Every time either of them approached a hit, the other would exhaust an option in order to escape it. He was tired of this. Fūten activated his clone technique, and sent one clone around the rock, at full momentum, as though he had never stopped running when the rock spawned before him. He would wait several seconds before jumping up and over the rock, propelling himself forward by kicking off of the rocks surface. The clone ought to have distracted Kurai enough by the time Fūten jumped up on top of the rock to attack, so he was sure his momentous punch would slam into Kurai's face.

I thought this would he simple! Easy! But my skills...they are all but present. They hVe been destroyed, taken from me by that wretched place. By my father. By this world. I DO NOT ACCEPT

In his moment, Fūten had begun to feel such a rush of emotion that he knew not what he could trust, and what he should've ignored. His heart was racing, he was bleeding, and he had was quickly losing grasp of what he had once imagined his first battle after leaving the asylum to he. His kind had been ravaged by the place, and his body was nowhere near what it needed to be. He would have to swallow his infernal pride in order to become stronger. Kurai was proving to be an immense help in gauging that. If Fūten successfully hit Kurai in the jaw as he had hoped to, he would stop right there, and allow Kurai the victory. He had exhausted Fūten beyond any activity he had done while imprisoned. His boasting had been his undoing. He clung to the hope that Kurai had not remembered any of the prideful behavior that Fūten had displayed.

Regardless of what happened next, Fūten would extend his hand for a shake, and give a hearty laugh at the excitement and fun of the battle.

"You have tested my weary bones and have assisted me greatly in realizing my weaknesses. I have a long way to go to regain my former strength, but you, Kurai, are a splendid ninja indeed."

Almost immediately after the boulder was place down, Futen ran around, seeming to not even break stride. He isn't letting up. However, Kurai would stay true to his plan and launch two senbon at Futen's thigh. As they drew closer, Kurai became arrogant to himself. It looks like I have... the senbon phased through Futen, and then his frame dispersed. Clone jutsu. Coming over head now was what Kurai though to be the real Futen. Kurai didn't want to use any chakra maneuver to avoid a possible clone, but what if it was the real Futen. I'm just as skilled in close as I am from range. If he wants to a close range fight, I'll give it to him. Kurai raised his guard. The taijutsu specialist had ample time to react as there was about 10 meters separating the two. The Uchiha took the strike squarely on the back of his forearms. The force of the blow caused Kurai to slide back a bit. He's much stronger than me, I see why he was so eager to get in close.

Once Kurai felt the force of Futen wane, he broke his guard and skipped back a few feet, adjusting after taking Futen's powerful strike to his guard. A bruise was starting to appear on the area where Futen had connected. Kurai stood a few feet away now. As he came to a stop, the mummy extended his hand outward, appearing to offer a hand shake. Is he conceding?? Then he began to laugh, his outburst was followed by words that confirmed Kurai's assumption. He complemented Kurai on his skills and thanked him as well in helping him take the first step in getting back into top condition. Kurai shook Futen's hand and bowed slightly. "Thank you Futen. This was an exhilarating spar for me."

Kurai let out a single breath, allowing his body to relax a bit more. While in combat, despite his fluid style, his body nor mind was never truly at rest. His senses were now dropping off a tad. The Genin allowed himself but a few moments to reflect on the spar. Futen showed me a lot today. He showed that he can indeed you the devastating element that he spoke so highly of, and for good reason. He displayed his affinity for doton. Finally, he showed great strength and a slight inclination towards close combat. I am certain a worthy opponent lies within. "I can tell much strength lies within you. I also know, what I saw today was but a glimpse of what dust release is capable of. You can be certain of this Futen, I will never take your skills lightly. I look forward to us possibly progressing together."

There was no doubting it, this man would remain an ally to Fūten. It was necessary. It was called for. The firm hand shake and kind words sunk into the slightly mad man'a heart. He would never be taken lightly by this one, a grand step in the direction of finding those who would best outfit his rise into a splendid shinobi of Iwakagure. The boy was talented with genjutsu, a trait that made him very formidable, but allowed Fūten the practice he needed to compensate for his weakness. He would take advantage of the spars they would have in the future in order to grasp it just a little better.

"Rest assured that I will not be taking you lightly either, Kurai. You are excellent in form and ability. You are the mold of the perfect shinobi of this time. Have you ever heard of Madara Uchiha?" He asked this question with an intentional reference, as Kurai has never revealed to him what eye powers he must've had, Fūten was still just making assumptions.

He would answer truthfully. He closed his eyes "Uchiha, Madara. A name attached to some of the greatest lore the shinobi world has to offer..." Kurai opened his eyes and with a smile. "Of course I do." Futen continued, revealing his purpose of asking the question, stating that he aspires to obtain skill like that of Madara, and fight along comrades with the same competency.

Kurai nodded. "A noble aspiration indeed. It is nice to find shinobi with ambition, not content on the mundane routine of shinobi-hood. Shinobi like us, we crave more than our eyes can see, we are shinobi of vision."

Fūten said in a calm, effortless tone.

He looked on at Kurai, looking more particularly into his eyes. He swallowed hard, then cleared his throat, and began..

"My father rules the police force here in Iwa, he is also soley responsible for the torment I have experienced in my life. He is unaware that I am even living, or that I know of his involvement. You see, I was to be crafted into the perfect anti-hero. I was being crafted into his own personal weapon of hatred. My captivity brought it all to light."

Fūten glanced up at Kurai to see if his attention was still focused, he then halted his talk. He wasn't sure what had possessed him to reveal so much. Was Kurai trustworthy? He skipped out on any further details of his plan and hit straight onto his intentions.

"I will crush the crime syndicate here in Iwa, and then I will personally deliver my own brand of justice to its people, alongside an elite force of enforcers."
