"For the first lesson today, we will be studying our surroundings. As ninja, we must be resourceful and become familiar with the terrain in order to gain the upper hand in battle. Take a good look around."
Taking his sensei's advice to heart, Kichirou momentarily stopped rolling the dice across his knuckles, his eyes scanning across the surrounding area. Majestic trees of various heights litter throughout the training ground, the lush greenish leaves, blowing in the slight breeze, given one insight that they were truly healthy. Different species of birds hid amongst the gallant woody plants, nesting, feeding their crying young who wanted nothing more but food, while others were observing the world around processing their surrounding, some where even looking at the humans below them.
"This place has a flat surface of earth, a nearby stream, trees, bushes and plants for us to utilize."
The gambler's hand palmed the ground, feeling the different texture and grains mixed with the soil, while his eyes looking across the relatively flat plain. He noted that because of the numerous of trees and bushes in the area one could use them for cover fire or to sneak up on an unexpected individual. Not only that because of the height of the trees, one can easily execute aerial attacks, seeing how most ninjas never bothered to look up anyway. For who expects a sneak attack from above? The sudden feel of chakra being concentrated and released into the ground underneath, put Kichirou on edge. While the man was far from being a sensor ninja, he felt the chakra being released by Sousetsu and he wondered what exactly their sensei was planning.
"You see? I now have the higher ground. Now I have a better chance of finding anyone who is hiding in the bushes, prepared for ground attacks, and an all round bird's eye view."
The slow methodical rise of the earth, loose clumps of it falling harmlessly to the ground, gave Kichirou the answer to his unasked question. Green eyes looked up at their sensei who were now ten meters, thirty feet, above them – though Kichirou did have to squint his eyes due to the sun glaring behind Sousetsu, causing his shadow to be cast. Sousetsu looked cool at that moment, Kichirou mentally admitted.
“But you also expose yourself to your enemies. While it's true that you can use higher ground to scout for enemies. Shouldn't this higher ground be natural made? And not jutsu made? For any shinobi worth their salt would be able to sense chakra being used, though with various variables missed in. “ Kichirou just had to add his two cent, for while he did listen to everything his sensei was saying, some of the stuff wouldn't be applied by the gambler.
"Take a moment to embrace the surroundings."
Maybe it was because Kichirou was older than the others. Or maybe because he was a rebel slightly. No, matter the case instead of doing like his team mates, the genin took on his own meditation like state, similar to Sousetsu's – the only difference being the dice rolling across his knuckles subconsciously. They would probably find it odd that he could meditate while still the dice rolled on his knuckles. But again this come from such an action being soothing to him.
"With three summoners, we must formulate a strategy for you three before we progress into sparring." The Senju smiled once more.
"As we all know, Kichirou has a buffalo summoning, a quite offensive summoning at that. Kaito has crustacean summonings, which would not doubt consist of a crab, which would be more of a defensive summoning. The claws however could balance the power of course but the hard shell will be more of a factor."
Kichirou couldn't help but to chuckle at the assumption of his buffalo contract being completely offensive, was it really that obvious? Couldn't they been defensive? Or supplementary? Instead of assuming, why not just ask? For assumptions in this world could get one killed, at least that what Kichirou read somewhere. Despite the assumption being made, Kichirou did listen to Sousetsu explained Kaito's contract and how they would fit into this equation. So the buffalos will be the sword, and the crustacean be the shield. So where does that leave Daiki – Wait what was Daiki's summons? Before he could voice this question, his sensei seem to beat him to it.
"I never did tell you guys, did I? Well, I hold the dog summoning contract. They are good in tracking people as well as animals and their sight is good too. But what is good in my opinion is a couple of their ninjutsu. On of my dogs has ninjutsu that heavily coincides mine making it a lot more effective. I will show you guys later."
Kichirou couldn't help but to nod at Daiki's summary of his contract. Kichirou did noted that Daiki seem to take pride of the contract, this being seen how he boosted about their abilities, along with Kaito having fought against them. Now that's an interesting piece of information. So the other two team mates had sparred against each other. Kichirou felt somewhat left out at that point, but didn't let it bother him. Surely there will be a time for he to spar against his team mates, right?
"Lots of good your summon did too, Daiki. Did you go for them for their observational skills? If so, bravo to you sir. Got your money's
And by Kaito's opinion, it seems like the man wasn't impressed with Daiki's summons. Kichirou wonder why that was. Didn't Daiki used the summons effectively? Or did he just summoned them and allow them to do what they please? For what's the point of summoning creates to aid you, when you don't use them properly? “It's like a chest game. . .” Kichirou mused to himself.
"Sensei, you didn't bring us out here for a lecture, did you? This stuff we learned in the Academy.
Kichirou couldn't help but to interject his own opinion at the mention of the academy“Technically the academy didn't teach us jack shit. They sugarcoated everything. Manipulating the academy students like puppets, pulling on their hopes and dreams. For lets face is the majority of academy students just want to become a ninja for one or two reasons; one; for the fame and glory that books tell about being a ninja, two; family or clan pressure. It's a pity really. . . that the Kage need to lie to us in order to get more dogs for the slaughter. . .” It was clear by the way he talked that, Kichirou held no love for the academy or Kage for that matter. But it didn't mean that he wouldn't protect the puppeteer if needed.
“And, you never told us what you specialize in. Do you have a summoning contract? You know a bit more of us and what we can do. An offensive summon, defensive summon, and support summon.”
“Come now, let our sensei have his secrets. He will probably tell us when he's ready or when/if we spar against him. And it's kind of obvious by his earlier description, that he specialize in Ninjutsu and Kenjutsu. So you should be able to conduct that either he had an additional specialty or have techniques that mess well with summonings. “ Kichirou stated, having already came to the conclusion earlier own, though never did he voice it – till now.
What can you teach us?"
Now this question, he didn't have a problem with. For he also was curious about what they would be learning – besides team work.
