Beat the Bandits: Infiltrate the base!

The wind blew past and caused Binsu's hair to sway and dance to its rhythmic flow. High up in a nearby tree, crouched Genko Binsu and just to the right of him was Bokuden, though unlike the last time they went on a mission together, he didn't have Satomi with him with him at the time. Binsu on the other hand, had sealed Hades away in one of his scrolls, though had brought the scroll with him on their mission in case he needed the bear's assistance. The two Kumogakure shinobi had been sent on another high ranked mission once more, and like before they had been both partnered up with each other. Although Binsu was fully aware that this particular mission required stealth, he was more than confident that he could infiltrate this particular base with or without his clan armour on, though for today he had decided to bring it along with him just in case he had to fight a foe who was greater in power than him. "Hmm, there are two guards guarding the main entrance, both armed with a broadsword. I can take both of them out stealthily, but once I do we both have to take their form and advance into the cave under those disguises," Binsu explained to Bokuden in a whisper, before jumping down from the branch he had been crouching on the whole time and landed on the ground just below it. Luckily enough, Binsu had landed right behind a tall row of bushes, which helped to effectively hide his presence away from the guard's sight. He then threaded together a few hand signs and after the last hand sign, began to slowly sink into the ground just where he stood. Once he had successfully submerged himself underground, Binsu then advanced towards the location of the two guards. Once sure he had travelled to the spot just behind the two, he'd slowly emerge himself from underneath the ground and once fully emerged, he'd take out two kunais from his kunai pouch, then holding one in each hand he'd bring the kunai in the right hand behind the guard that was to his right's neck and the kunai in the left up to the guard on the left's neck. Then in one fluid motion, Binsu would slit both of the men's throats with the small hand-held blades and catch both of the bodies in either of his arm pits, just before they hit the ground. Slowly laying both of the bodies down on the ground, he'd return his kunai back in their pouch and silently signal over to Bokuden for him to come over to his location.

Once Bokuden had arrived to the crime scene, Binsu would crouch down next to the guard on the right and gently turn over his body so that he was laying on the ground facing upwards, this way Binsu would be able to copy not just the man's attire, but also his facial features aswell using the transformation jutsu. After threading the required hand signs, Binsu's overall appearance changed and took the form of that of the guard laying down on the left. The two looked completely identical, only the real guard Binsu had stolen the looks from had a cut across his throat and had large amounts of blood across his neck and inside his mouth. "Take the lead from here, I have to quickly dispose of these bodies, Binsu would whisper over to Bokuden, before threading together a few more, unfamiliar hand signs. After the last hand sign, the small area of land that the two dead guards had been laying on softened and soon after turned into mud, sinking both of the men in the sticky substance within seconds before the state of the ground changed back to its solid form. Once Binsu's jutsu was complete, he then slowly made his way into the cave, following close behind his partner Bokuden.

Remember those monsters we had you deal with and the criminal organization that we suspected were tied to their appearance? Well the sample you brought back from your last mission has suggested evidence of human experimentation. This cannot stand! And yet… we can’t just send in a raiding party on a hunch and a shred of evidence. What this calls for is tact. You must infiltrate their base of operations and bring us definitive proof that what we suspect is true. There is no room for interpretation here. Anything short of absolute proof of their guilt will be regarded as a failure. Don’t disappoint us.

“Don’t disappoint us, huh?” Bokuden mused to himself as he stared down from the canopy of the forest, his sapphire eyes piercing through the darkness and scanning the surrounding area, “Way to lay on the pressure.” Beside him in the treetop stood Binsu who had been assigned as Bokuden’s partner for a mission once again, the second time in less than a week no less. The decision to partner them up together again however, was a logically sound one. The two had already worked together to put down that beast, which is what lead to this particular mission even existing. They were the closest to the assignment to begin with and had more experience than any other shinobi in the village in dealing with those… things. The fact that they both happened to be jounin was an added bonus. The very nature of the mission almost necessitated the participation of elite shinobi, the situation was delicate to say the least. The instructions for this mission could not be made any more clear; there were to be no loose ends. Bokuden and Binsu were to be in and out as quickly and quietly as possible. No one should be aware of their intrusion into the base until the deed was done, if at all. It was for this very reason that Bokuden decided to have Satomi stay behind and by the looks of it Binsu had done the same with Hades. Stealth may not have exactly been Bokuden’s forte, but he could surmise well enough that a giant white bear and wolf may not have been the most inconspicuous group to travel with.

"Hmm, there are two guards guarding the main entrance, both armed with a broadsword. I can take both of them out stealthily, but once I do we both have to take their form and advance into the cave under those disguises," Binsu whispered before jumping down from the branch on which they were standing. Bokuden watched carefully as Binsu took cover behind a wall of shrubbery, hiding himself from the unsuspecting guards, and weaved a sequence of hand signs in the darkness. Even with Bokuden’s keen eyesight it was difficult to make out the hand signs Binsu was forming, but they became evident as Binsu began to sink into the ground. Once Binsu had completely submerged himself below ground Bokuden activated his Current Perception: Combat range in order to keep track of Binsu as he travelled below ground, making a beeline straight for the two guards. Bokuden gripped the handle of his chokuto just in case something were to go wrong with Binsu’s plan, but from what he could tell the plan was going smoothely. “Those poor souls,” Bokuden mused with a grin as he watched Binsu silently emerge from the ground, brandishing a kunai in each hand. Once he had finished springing up from the earth below Binsu slit the throats of the men guarding the entrance to the cave from behind. “A merciful death,” Bokuden thought to himself as he watched their newly lifeless bodies fall back into Binsu’s arms, “Too merciful for this lot.”

Once Binsu had gently placed the two corpses down on the ground, preventing any loud noises that might alert the rest of their gang, he signaled for Bokuden to come out, to which he complied. Upon Bokuden’s arrival Binsu turned the two corpses over, making their faces visible to the two shinobi. The next step was obvious; he and Binsu would use the transformation technique to copy the appearances of the two guards, hopefully allowing them to traverse the hideout without incident. At Binsu and Bokuden’s level of expertise, transforming into an identical copy of another person was child’s play. That however, did not mean that the two of them could waltz around the hideout with impunity. Appearances were one thing, but mannerisms were another thing entirely. Even a group of bottom-feeders like this should be able to identify actions that were unusual for members of their own gang. They needed to complete this mission as quickly as possible, preferably without being seen. Binsu wasted no time in copying the image of the corpse on the left, making Bokuden’s choice an easy one as he copied the corpse on the right. "Take the lead from here, I have to quickly dispose of these bodies,” Binsu whispered before weaving another sequence of hand signs. Bokuden raised an eyebrow as the corpses began to sink into the ground which had been transformed into some manner of adhesive liquid by Binsu’s jutsu. Bokuden didn’t bother waiting around to watch the bodies be completely buried by the jutsu, Binsu could finish the job himself. Bokuden cautiously made his way into the cave, taking note of the high ceilings and narrow paths of the cave’s tunnel system.

Before long Binsu had caught up to Bokuden, seemingly having finished his business outside the cave, and paced a couple of meters behind him. Bokuden stopped in his tracks and silently raised his hand up, signaling for Binsu to stop as well, as he heard the sounds of voices and footsteps approaching. Two men came walking around the corner of the tunnel, their boisterous laughter now filling the cave, and stopped as they glared at Bokuden in silence for a moment. “The hell are you doing in here?” the man on the right asked angrily, “Do you know what the boss would do to you if he found out that you left your post without his orders?” Bokuden didn’t respond as he pondered what to do in this situation. What was happening was exactly what concerned him; appearances alone weren’t enough sometimes, just them being out of place was a threat to Bokuden and Binsu’s cover. “What, are you deaf too?” the man on the left said in a nasally voice, “We’re talking to you. And I would suggest you show us a bit more courtesy if you don’t want us to tell the boss and let him skin you alive. We’re reasonable though, there’s no need for this little incident to ever leave this room… but of course discretion doesn’t come for free.” The man grinned as he spoke, exposing his crooked, yellow smile. Bokuden grew more and more irritated with each word that slithered from the man’s mouth until finally he decided to silence the men himself. Bokuden placed a hand on his sword and in what would appear to be a single motion to the untrained eye drew it, lunged forward, cut clean through each of the men’s necks, and sheathed his weapon once again. The bodies fell down to their knees before their severed heads rolled off of their bodies.

Bokuden turned to face Binsu and spoke casually, “Mind taking care of those too?” Bokuden didn’t bother waiting for an answer and continued further into the cave, assured that Binsu would catch up after he disposed of those corpses as well.

Bokuden stopped in his tracks and silently raised his hand up, signaling for Binsu to stop as well, as they could both hear the sounds of voices and footsteps approaching. Binsu followed his team mate's comand and came to an imediate halt. Two men came walking around the corner of the tunnel, their constant laughters now filling the cave, and stopped as they glared at Bokuden in silence for a moment. “The hell are you doing in here?" the man on the right asked angrily, “Do you know what the boss would do to you if he found out that you left your post without his orders?” Bokuden didn’t respond to either of the two men's questions. Binsu was glad he wasn't the one being asked the questions, for he rather would've killed the two men on the spot instead of coming up with a clever way to send the two men on their way without suspecting the two of being imposters. Strangely, Bokuden did what Binsu would've done also, but something Binsu thought Bokuden would never think of doing himself. Bokuden placed a hand on his sword and in what would appear to be a single motion, drew it, lunged forward, cut clean through each of the men’s necks and sheathed his weapon once again. Binsu had never seen a faster kill than that from any Special Jounin or lower ranked nin, suggesting to him that Bokuden had not only grown from the last time the two had sparred, but had also increased his skills in combat. The bodies of the two men fell down to their knees, before their severed heads rolled off of their bodies. Bokuden turned to face Binsu and spoke casually, "Mind taking care of those too?” Binsu would give his answer in the form of a nod, before he watched as Bokuden continued walking, obviously trusting that Binsu would've had no trouble in disposing the dead bodies that dirtied the corridors and left evidence of their presence within the cave.

Quickly threading together the same hand sign sequence he had done earlier for his Earth Changing Terrain jutsu, Binsu was able to yet again cause the small area of earth supporting both of the dead bodies, into a mud-like state, causing both of corpses to sink into the sticky compound before he changed the state of the earth back into its solid state. Binsu would then quickly look behind where he had come from to see if they had been followed, but after spotting only the empty corridor they had walked in through he'd quickly make his way towards Bokuden and within seconds would've caught up to the boy. After a few more minutes of searching, the two companions would begin to see an opened door leading into a room of some sort. 'A room, maybe we can find something in there,' Binsu thought to himself, before he slowly made his way towards the door, hoping that Bokuden had spotted the door as well. As if he had been in the room before, Binsu would casually make his way inside of the room, but only to come face to face with yet another member of the gang. He looked much older than the other four gang members Bokuden and Binsu had slaughtered. "Just where do you think you're going without the doctor's permission?" 'Doctor? What would a doctor be doing in a place like this?' Binsu would think quickly to himself, then putting on his best act of a criminal, he'd say to the man, "Hmm, you don't remember the doctor asking for our assistance yesterday? The man raised an eyebrow in confusion, before speaking up saying, "Why would the doctor need any help from the two guards who are supposed to be guarding the cave entrance as we speak?" The man sounded pissed and certainly didn't seem to be believing a single word Binsu was saying. In an attempt of preserving their identities long enough to find out any information about the gang's secret plots, Binsu would immediately react to the man's question as If he was the man he was impersonating. "Heh, maybe the reason you don't know is because you're an imposter. See my partner here and I were told that an intruder had made their way into our base unnoticed and that he was impersonating one of our own men. If you truly are who you say you are, then explain to me what this room is for," Binsu demanded, in a tone of voice he guessed the man he was impersonating would've sound like. Binsu was unsure whether or not Bokuden was following his plan, or whether or not their antagonist was believing a single word he was saying, however, the latter was made clear when the man responded to Binsu's demand saying, "Heh, easy. This is the laboratory of course, where the doctor's doing a few tests on our unfortunate 'guest'. See i'm not the imposter." As soon as Binsu had heard the man mention a test subject, he knew that this was the room they were looking for. Whatever secret plots this gang was up to, they'd most likely find some information on their plans in this room. Once the man had finished explaining the obvious, his innocents on the accusation Binsu had made come up with, the Jounin would then decide to reveal to the man that they indeed were the imposters he had been referring too, but wouldn't have mattered now as the guy would die knowing their secret. "I knew you weren't the imposter..." Binsu explained, "We are." After finishing off his sentence, Binsu would quickly push the guy backwards in an attempt to stagger his balance, before swiftly drawing out his Kappatsuna blade and decapitating the guy's head with one swing of the blade.

After witnessing the guy's body drop onto its knees and after watching its head roll off of the man's shoulders and onto the ground, Binsu would quickly make his way further down into the room. Once he had reached the end of the room, he saw a large table with scattered documents on top of it, with a large computer in the middle and to the far right side of this computer, he saw a human inside a giant vat of liquid with an oxygen mask allowing for them to breathe. The man looked as if he had been mutated with another creature's genes, but the scary thing was that he was slowly beginning to look like the same monsters he and Bokuden had been sent to take care of in the wilderness. "They, they're turning humans into those...things. It's too late to save this guy Bokuden, but maybe it's not too late to stop it from fully transforming into another one of those monsters," Binsu would explain to Bokuden, with a slightly disturbed look on his face. He'd then add on, "Quick, upload the data on the computers into the disc that we were assigned with this mission whilst I take care of this man," before making a dash towards the large vat of water and  taking a swing at its center part with his Kappatsuna blade. The glass holding the tank's shape together cracked and shattered, releasing the carefully preserved body of the 'test subject' the other gang member had earlier mentioned. Binsu then took a few seconds to try and recognize who the man was, but it was no use. It was as though these gang members were collecting random travellers that passed by their cave and using them as their 'test subject' for the inhuman experiments. After deciding that he hadn't a clue of the man's identity, Binsu ended the man's life by decapitating his head also, using his Kappatsuna blade to do so. "Let's get out of here," Binsu suggested, given that his partner Bokuden had finished up uploading the data onto the disc and was prepared to make a quick escape from the cave.

It would not take long for Binsu to catch up to Bokuden further up in the cave. Bokuden neither asked nor cared how Binsu disposed of the bodies, only that the deed was done, but assumed he buried them in the same manner he did the corpses at the entrance to the cave. And why wouldn’t he? It was as effective a way to hide the corpses discretely as any. The likelihood of the gang carrying around shovels and performing routine body hunts outside of their hideout was just about nonexistent. No one would so such a thing without just cause and by the time that cause became evident, Bokuden and Binsu would be long gone. The two shinobi proceeded to traverse the tunnels, still in disguise, treading carefully along and remaining vigilant for any other gang members that might be around. Bokuden found the distinct lack of security in the hideout to be strange, especially for what was suspected to have been occurring there. He and Binsu had only run into four guards and had already made their way fairly deep into the hideout and the guards that they had encountered were far from elite. If Bokuden were to hazard a guess he would probably say that neither of them could have been beyond the strength level of an average chunin.

After a short while of searching the duo came across an opened door which all but demanded investigation. As they walked through the doorway Bokuden threw an inquisitive glance over to the door itself, examining it closely. The door was large and seemed to be made of some sort of reinforced steel. More curious however was that almost all of the protective measures used to make the door impenetrable were designed to stop things from leaving the room. The locks were located on the side of the door that would face the cave exit and all of the reinforced steel bars were located on the inward facing side of the door. “Why would they need a door that prevents them from leaving their own hideout?” Bokuden thought to himself, slightly concerned with what such a design implied, “This door wasn’t meant to keep someone out, they were made to keep something in.” Bokuden quickly shook off the unproductive thought as he and Binsu walked through the doorway and into the next room. Upon entering the room the duo was confronted by what could only be assumed to be yet another member of the gang.

Judging by appearances alone this man seemed to be a senior member of the group. Not only was he physically older, but the condescending look in his eyes and authoritative manner of speaking suggested that he was clearly of a superior rank then the goons Bokuden and Binsu had disguised themselves as. "Just where do you think you're going without the doctor's permission?" the man demanded, folding his arms as he glared at the two. Bokuden prepared to speak up and hopefully talk his way out of this situation, but was beat to the punch by Binsu who decided to address the man himself, "Hmm, you don't remember the doctor asking for our assistance yesterday?” Seemingly unimpressed by Binsu’s facade the man cocked an eyebrow and replied angrily, "Why would the doctor need any help from the two guards who are supposed to be guarding the cave entrance as we speak?" Things weren’t going well. If Binsu didn’t clear this up it could become a threat to the mission very quickly. "Heh, maybe the reason you don't know is because you're an imposter. See my partner here and I were told that an intruder had made their way into our base unnoticed and that he was impersonating one of our own men. If you truly are who you say you are, then explain to me what this room is for," Binsu answered immediately. Bokuden couldn’t help but grin as he heard Binsu’s words, realizing exactly what he was trying to do. It was certainly a risky card to play, but it could expedite this mission considerably if it paid off.  Now they just needed to hope this man was stupid enough to take the bait. "Heh, easy. This is the laboratory of course, where the doctor's doing a few tests on our unfortunate 'guest'. See i'm not the imposter,” the man replied.  Bokuden resisted the urge to slap his palm against his forehead and sigh as he listened to the man so easily volunteer information like that. Were they all this stupid? Regardless, his words confirmed exactly what the village officials had suspected when they sent Bokuden and Binsu on this mission and it seemed as though they would have to look no further than this room for the evidence they needed. Once the man had tipped his hand and told them what they needed to know Binsu disposed of him via decapitation. It was the third decapitation in the mission so far, much to Bokuden’s delight.

As they proceeded further into the room Bokuden cocked an eyebrow at his surroundings. Large vents were drawing air out from the room, making it sterile and there was medical equipment and paperwork scattered all over. “So this is what they meant by doctor, huh?” Bokuden said as he looked around, freezing in place as he looked up to see what was in front of him, “This is…” Before him stood a large vat of liquid which contained what appeared to be a person inside of it, although calling it a person at this point anymore seemed to be out of place. It’s body was… changing, beginning to resemble the beasts that had been terrorizing the country side. "They, they're turning humans into those...things. It's too late to save this guy Bokuden, but maybe it's not too late to stop it from fully transforming into another one of those monsters," Binsu said, clearly disturbed by the sight, "Quick, upload the data on the computers into the disc that we were assigned with this mission whilst I take care of this man." Bokuden wasn’t going to argue that point, he had no interest of dealing with that.  He made his way over to the large computer that stood on a raised area overlooking the area with the vat and turned on the computer. The first thing Bokuden was greeted with was a screen asking for a password, but it meant nothing as Bokuden simply inserted the disc that he had been given when this mission was assigned to him. The disc contained the village’s own software which would simply copy everything on the hard drive, once they had that they could bring it back to the village and let their specialists crack it themselves. Bokuden had experience with computers but had neither the technical experience nor the time to try and get around this encryption manually, so this disc was a life saver for him. As he awaited the file transfer to finish he heard the shattering of glass coming from down below, no doubt Binsu dealing with the other problem. Bokuden heard Binsu call out to him to go just as the software finished backing up the data, prompting him to immediately grab the disc and make his way down. He threw a quick glance down at the severed head of the poor soul Binsu had pulled from that glass prison before stepping over the corpse and placing the disc into his coat’s inside breast pocket.

As they approached the door Bokuden heard the sounds of voices and footsteps running towards the room. “What was that noise?” a voice called out from the group of 5 which Bokuden sensed, “It came from the lab!”

“So, do you think you can get us out of here through the ground or are we going to have to silence a few more fool who don’t know when to mind their business?” Bokuden said with a grin as he turned toward Binsu.

As they approached the door Bokuden heard the sounds of voices and footsteps running towards the room. “What was that noise?” a voice called out, before another said, “It came from the lab!” Before Binsu could even guess who those voice belonged to, a third voice spoke out to him saying, “So, do you think you can get us out of here through the ground or are we going to have to silence a few more fool who don’t know when to mind their business?”. He knew that the third voice belonged to his partner Bokuden, who then turned around to face Binsu with a grin on his face. It seemed as though Bokuden was catching on to Binsu's special ability to manipulate doton to do as he pleased, though even a ninja skilled in doton as Binsu was had their limits. Momentarily, Binsu and Bokuden were far too deep into the cave for Binsu to use any of his doton skills to make an easy exit out of the cave for the two, meaning that the pair would have to fight their way out. 'So long as we fight with only our swords and maintain this transformation jutsu, our identities will remain a secret to the criminals,' Binsu thought to himself, before tightening his grip on his Kappatsuna blade, having not have sheathed it yet from the moment he drew it out to kill the man-beast that was held in the giant water vat.

Rather than seeing one person chasing after the intruders from one direction of the corridor, he saw two people coming running towards him, coming from the direction closest to him in the corridors. In the other direction, the one nearest to Bokuden, 3 men all wearing the same style of clothing all made their way towards the two. "You take the three coming towards you, i'll handle these two," Binsu informed Bokuden. Both of the two men that approached Binsu had one sword each in their hands and both were holding it in a way that suggested to Binsu that they specialized in the art of Bukijutsu, but Binsu wasn't quite sure as to whether or not their skill in Bukijutsu was greater than his or not. The men that Bokuden had to fight were each equipped with one, low quality spear. As one of the two men Binsu had to face went for the first strike on Binsu, the Jounin would force down his Kappatsuna blade over the man's low level sword, then after giving him an armature kick to the chin with his right leg and sending him staggering backwards away his sword, he'd then raise his own blade to level with the man's neck, holding it horizontally in front of him and aiming the front of its tip towards the man's jugular before activating its rapid stretching ability to deliver a quick, striking motion with the blades straight into the guy's jugular. Instantly the guy's body fell backwards in defeat, before his partner came running towards Binsu himself, jumping over the dead body of his foe and aiming to strike Binsu across the neck with a downwards, diagonal slice in between his left collar bone and his head. Sadly, the man's attempt ended in a bitter failure, as Binsu managed to quickly duck down low enough to level himself with the guy's leg, before swinging at them with his Kappatsuna blade using a horizontal attack from the right to left. The man's legs were cut clean in half, leaving his body to fall flat on the ground with no feet to support it whilst standing up. Binsu would then finish off the job by moving in closer to the guy and stabbing him straight through the neck in one, quick motion to ensure that the man was truly dead.

From Binsu’s reaction Bokuden figured that they were going to have to cut their way out of this situation. "You take the three coming towards you, i'll handle these two," Binsu said before engaging his opponents. The other three men, all wielding spears, all approached Bokuden who had begun to lose patience with these constant interruptions. Holding his chokuto out in front of him in his outstretched arm, parallel to the ground, Bokuden marched slowly towards the approaching men. Once they were within range all that would be heard was a click as his sword was “unlocked” from its sheath, its faint blue glow reflecting in Bokuden’s icy blue eyes. Then almost in an instant, Bokuden unleashed a flurry of slashes, cutting all three men down, before returning his sword to its scabbard. Bokuden turned to make his exit but stopped as he heard the sounds of pained moaning behind him. Turning a glance in that direction he could see that the men had all fallen to their knees and dropped their weapons, but were still very much alive. “It appears as though I was careless,” Bokuden thought to himself before turning to face his victims, “However, I will not disgrace my blade by drawing her against such pitiful enemies more than once.”

*Killing these people off screen*

Blood dripped down from the ceiling as Bokuden walked over to Binsu’s location, leaving behind three corpses impaled onto the walls with their own spears. “Now let’s get out of here before we have any more interruptions,” Bokuden said to Binsu as he walked by, making his way back towards the entrance to the cave, “I’ll confirm the mission’s completion and deliver the disc myself, feel free to head home and get some rest. You’ll need it. Something tells me that this whole ordeal isn’t over yet.” Bokuden the sped off through the caverns, disappearing into the darkness as he headed back to the village.

Alas, what need to be done was done. Binsu and Bokuden were one step away from collecting their reward for completing the mission with much predicted success. 'We did it...' Binsu thought to himself, as he eyed the 5 bodies he and Bokuden had taken the life out of, having only the excuse of needing to kill the men in order to complete the mission. Once Binsu had finished off his last opponent, he turned back to check on Bokuden, who had just finished off his last opponent as well. After giving the dead corpses another glimpse, Binsu redirected his attention towards Bokuden, who then said as he walked past Binsu, "“Now let’s get out of here before we have any more interruptions.” The pair then made their way back to the entrance of the cave. “I’ll confirm the mission’s completion and deliver the disc myself, feel free to head home and get some rest. You’ll need it. Something tells me that this whole ordeal isn’t over yet," Bokuden explained to Binsu, just before he disappeared into the forest, most likely heading back to Kumogakure. Not long after Bokuden's exit, Binsu himself followed the man's advice and too made his way back to the village hidden in the clouds.
