Isamu stepped out into a clearing in the tall grass of Mizu no Kuni. It had just finished raining, so of course the sky was still crisscrossed with grey patches of clouds. He pushed the wet hair out of his eyes and stared down at his left hand. Today would be a hard day of training, but he was ready for it. He had 2 jutsu in mind that he wanted to learn and master by the time he left this meadow. First was Water Release: Bubble Rupture, his first bubble-based ninjutsu. He had heard that the 2nd Mizukage utilized this style of Suiton Ninjutsu over a century ago, and a jinchuuriki by the name of Utakata also developed a similar fighting style. After much research on the art, he'd decided to create his own bubble ninjutsu, which wouldn't be an easy task; the 2nd Mizukage was a Hozuki clansmen, and of SS-Rank, so naturally it wasn't difficult to mould Suiton bubbles. Utakata used a tool for his bubbles, and also had a large supply of tailed beast chakra. Isamu would have to learn through practice and focus alone.

The second jutsu he was learning today was Wind Release: Zephyr Missile. It was a long-range technique that he had coined for use in conjunction with Bubble Rupture; Bubble Rupture was a bubble around the user that would pop and throw opponents back, while Zephyr Missile was a powerful blast of Fuuton that would catch the thrown target off guard and possibly break some bones. It was a bit exciting, in fact; Isamu had a passion for inventing new jutsu and various applications of chakra, and training them was all the better. He decided to train Bubble Rupture first, as it was the harder technique of the two and thus deserved more concentration.

This jutsu wouldn't need hand signs; it just needed careful chakra control. Making a bubble with so much pressure could be bad if it backfired. Isamu held a balanced stance, and began focusing chakra into the soles of his feet. As the chakra began to build, he began to mold it, forming a thin layer of water around them that stretched and expanded until it reached a sphere shape that encased him. Proceeding with the jutsu, he started to expand the bubble, but it merely faded away. Attempt number one, failure. This time, he focused chakra in front of his hand, and a small bubble appeared. He enlarged this bubble until it encased him the same way; when he aimed to make it burst, however, it reverted to a watery state and fell to the ground. Attempt number two, failure.

Isamu continued making various bubbles of different sizes and origins through different methods of chakra control, but one by one, they all seemed to fail in some way or another. It was extremely difficult to maintain the chakra's shape transformation when it was expanding. So, by attempt number forty-two, he realized that maybe he could try using hand seals to maintain the bubble's expansion, at least until he mastered the technique in general. Once again, he created the large bubble from beneath him, it encased him in a sphere, and he made the Dragon and Ram hand signs. The bubble continued expanding, larger and larger, until bursting with a thunderous pop. SUCCESS! He smiled to himself at the sweet sense of success, but he wasn't done yet. He needed to learn to use this without hand seals so that he could react in close combat situations with it.

Attempt number forty-three, en route. Isamu focused all of his energy to his feet. His mind grew blank, a dark canvas, and white paint splattered images into his mind; the chakra building in his feet was the only thing he thought of, and it was now the focal point. The bubble rose from beneath his feet and was now around him. That was always the easiest part of the jutsu, for some reason...now, Isamu's mind went back to being a canvas, now cleansed of the previous focal point and refreshed with a new one. The image of pressure within the bubble, building through chakra and shape manipulation. This is what caused it to be a useful technique; upon bursting, the bubble's pressure was released at full force. Focus...the bubble began to grow, stretching and tensing at the pressure within, until it popped! Not with the same loud pop from before, but still, a successful application of the jutsu. Isamu was thrilled. He had already learned his first bubble ninjutsu; he planned to learn much more later, of course, but for now, this would definitely suffice. He took a deep breath, before transitioning to the next phase of training.

Isamu had always found Fuuton techniques to be more strenuous than Suiton. His natural chakra nature was that of Water Release, due to his kekkei genkai, while Wind Release was a secondary. That was half the reason why he had more Suiton jutsu than Fuuton ones. First things first, with Wind jutsu. He needed to use precision and absolute control to form a shape that still held the volatile and sharp nature of Fuuton. Usually, it was in the form of blades and tornados, but today it was a specific projectile shape manipulation that resembled a bullet. Different from his Wind Bullets technique in the sense that it was one extremely condensed ball of wind rather than three heavy ones. He planned to make it have enough blunt force to break bones, and still have the cutting nature to deal lacerations on its target.

Attempt number one. Isamu held his left hand out, aimed at a nearby tree that stood much taller than he was. His index finger was tensed while his other four fingers on his hand were relaxed; chakra built into the finger, making a light breeze-like noise. The noise grew deeper and louder as more chakra was forced into the finger until it sounded like a small tornado. Isamu had a specific goal in mind for the range of this; up to 25 meters. He wanted it to be perfect for long range combat. He finally released the chakra, and a small blast burst out, continuing forward for about 13 meters before fading away without hitting its target, the tree, which was exactly 25 meters away.

Attempt number two. There needed to be more driving and concussive force in the wind; Isamu focused again, this time using his right hand rather than his left, and the sound of the breeze returned, intensified into the sounds of a storm, and once again reached the booming echoes of a tornado's fierce winds within seconds. The chakra felt odd in his finger; he could feel its every move, but it wasn't tearing away at his skin. It was almost unexplainable. He stopped thinking about it to focus his attention back onto his finger. His mind pictured it, from knuckle to fingertip, and the chakra within. There was so much chakra built into it that the chakra throughout his entire arm was being forced into such a small space. The power potential was high.

Isamu released the blast, but as it left his body, it lost control and spread over a wide area, before fading. It had only continued forward about 6 meters before collapsing in on itself like that. Attempt number two, failure. He groaned with annoyance, and cracked his knuckles. This time, he was going to try and use the palm of his hand as a starting point for the jutsu rather than his finger, as it was hard to concentrate so much chakra into such a small extremity. He held his left hand out, aimed out the tree, his soft, pale palm staring down the bark of the tree menacingly. He wondered why he always practiced on trees when he was learning jutsu, but then figured it didn't matter anyways. Unless he was killing nature...meh. The chakra reached its maximum capacity; he felt his hand full of pure energy from the chakra.

Attempt number three, en route. He blasted the missile, which was considerably larger due to being launched from his palm, and it continued forward about 11 meters before exploding into a tornado of wind. As flashy as it was, it didn't do any damage to any of the plants around when it burst, so not useful. Failed attempt, once again, especially since it didn't even make half the desired range. There was something here he was doing wrong, and he needed to find out what it was. He looked back at the various training he had throughout his life, the most memorable of which was that from Yuudai. He had always looked up to Yuudai, and he missed him terribly. The two hadn't seen each other in a little over five years, back after a training session together. That was when Isamu decided to quit being a shinobi...

The following two years were grim. Day in and day out, he was helping sick people, performing surgeries, and managing the Kiri Hospital's affairs. It was a stressful job that didn't pay very well, and it's the reason he eventually stopped staying in touch with this friends, including Yuudai. His romance with Ryu ended, and life got hard, so he quit, and since then, he had been trying to find his stride as a ninja once more. But maybe he couldn't do it alone; maybe he needed his friends. Strafe, Boruda, Yuudai, everyone. He hadn't seen them in so long. He had never even met the new Mizukage after Sero's death. He had so much to do. Looking back on training, specifically, he remembered a few instances concerning Wind Release, maybe not directly, but still important to the chakra nature and the use of it.

Isamu, just after being promoted to Chuunin, had watched Yuudai learn the Wind Release: Great Vacuum Sphere jutsu. Yuudai's method of jutsu use was unique and easy to comprehend; Isamu remembered every detail of the technique learned. Yuudai had started by expelling his breathe into the form of a sphere, and using chakra to maintain the shape of it. He used some sort of hand seal to condense the chakra until it reached its full potential before launching it forward; it destroyed a large area of the swamp, and Isamu remember how amazed he felt after watching that. It proved how great of a sensei Yuudai truly was, but now it posed as a way to use Wind Release. He needed to condense the chakra after releasing it to maintain its shape.

Isamu's next flashback led him to the day he had gone graverobbing. He had wanted to practice Medical Ninjutsu, and of course he chose the most illegal and macabre way to do so. He had dissected about five or six bodies before finding his Uncle's, and having a heart to heart with the corpse. Yes, he realized he probably looked crazy from the outside, but he did have a lot of emotional problems. The medical ninjutsu training had given him insight on how to precisely use Medical chakra to his advantage; the same could be applied to Wind Release. He then remembered how Sero showed up, and buried him in a coffin full of ants, underground. A fitting punishment, he was desecrating resting places, after all. He suddenly missed the previous Mizukage terribly. He looked up to Sero even more than he had looked up to Yuudai; Sero had rebuilt Kirigakure from the ground up after Hao destroyed it. He gave his life for the village, and he would never be forgotten...

And finally, Isamu remembered the last training session he had with Yuudai, wherein he was trying to master Fuuton. A short-lived battle ensued, and Yuudai bested him easily. After trying multiple times to lecture him on what it means to be a ninja and how to utilize jutsu, Isamu gave up, and Yuudai eventually left. He had learned Spiraling Wind Ball that day, and that was the last time he had learned a jutsu before now. Now, he sat, staring down at his hand, at his index finger, and his veins. He could do this, he knew he could, he just needed to keep trying. He couldn't give up again; granted, last time he gave up being a ninja, so giving up on this wasn't nearly as serious, but it still felt that way to him. He needed to master this jutsu, even if it was the last thing he would do. He stood back up, raising his left hand and maintaining a calm expression. It was nighttime now, and the silver moonlight refracted from his white eyes and hair. His index finger pointed to the tree, and he charged chakra without breaking concentration.

As he felt the chakra reach its limit, his lips pursed, and he quietly said, "Wind Release: Zephyr Missile." The chakra blasted out of his hand shaped as a bullet, shooting forward at full speed. It reached the tree in less than half of a second, and upon impact, blasted through the tree, leaving a giant hole that caused the tree to topple over. Attempt number four, success. He turned and made his way back to Kirigakure no Sato, with a gentle grin on his face. Two new jutsu, added to the arsenal, and now to go home and celebrate with lots of marshmallows. Why marshmallows? Because he and Kuremachisu freaking loved marshmallows.
