The sky was sparse with clouds, giving off the natural light of the sun's radiance coupled with the heat of the desert village, making the temperature that day feel mildly uncomfortable for any not accustomed to the land of wind. Despite this, the trade district was abuzz with traders going to and fro, hawking their wares and trying to buy sundries at low enough prices to resell them for an exorbitant rate. The village seemed to be recovering after the tragedy that had struck the nation not long ago when sand was turned to glass and many were murdered for the whims of three. People trekked through sandstone and loose grains, leaving footprints imprinted upon the ground, hustling and bustling while traders talked among themselves. A large area of traffic such as this would be the perfect place for someone to set up shop, which is why it was chosen as the new location for the 'Modish Menagerie.' The building was cut from beautiful white sandstone with blue stained glass windows. The doors were saloon style batwing doors, which when swung open, would ring a small bell. Those walking near the building could hear a cacophony of chirps, hisses, and brays. The small pet shop boasted many types of animals and pets from snakes and other reptiles to avians and even young camels or donkeys suited for traders and caravans. Many were kept in neat cages or glass terrariums, mostly for their safety than that of the people who would enter. Standing behind the counter was a young man with spiky snow white hair, a rag in hand. He was polishing the ornate glass counter top, waving to a couple who were leaving with their very own speckled geckos. His emerald eyes scanned the store as he wiped down the counter, as if he was doing some math in his head. With a sigh, he finished wiping the counter, busying himself with the feeding of the reptiles. Some would eat mice, others crickets and bugs, some even just eating vegetation. Keeping the animals well fed and in good health was important to his business, so it was something he took pride in. He hummed a small tune to himself, sounding more of a jig than a melodious refrain. When he finished feeding the reptiles, he'd pull out a small notebook and pen, moving over to a cage that held three different types of birds native to the land of wind, tilting his head as they observed how each interacted with the other. It was interesting to see two carrion birds living in harmony with what could only be described as the cousin to the mighty hawk. Nonetheless, they were getting along well which he made sure to write down in his notepad, continuing his humming, waiting on customers. |
