Mai's first fight. Naruto_background_043_by_backgrounds4you-dbe9jiw

Having successfully completed most of her training in the academy, Falemai knew it was now time for a real test. Although she is against fighting - in general - a spar could hardly be considered a fight. A controlled environment without the threat of death looming overhead gave her more comfort and allowed her to steady herself. Whilst the technicalities surrounding the fight would remove most of the pressure, Falemai still needed to prepare herself for life as a shinobi. This would be her first real test. A D-Rank opponent named Ragna. This, unfortunately, was all she knew about the person who would soon become her opponent.

For some unknown reason, Mai had been given a map of the place she was supposed to go to. This made no sense as she was blind and couldn't read... But alas, she had no qualms with what had transpired. 'An honest mistake' she told herself... 'It could have happened to anyone.' Not someone to let something so minute get to her, Mai asked villagers for the location on the map - Her crimson hair making her stand out amongst the crowd as many parted to give her a clear path to walk down. Even though Mai was blind, she could still see what was happening around her… the faint ringing sound that usually only her eyes were attuned and accustomed too allowed her the ability to do so.

Her cheeks flushed red with embarrassment as she lowered her head and walked quickly towards the small clearing just outside the village. The attention from the villagers was never something she wanted so her movements appeared a little frantic and possibly even sporadic. Luckily she had spent many years wondering through and around Sunagakure, she was able to reach her destination quite quickly. The only fathomable way to describe the battlefield was – much like the rest of the village – sandy.

Due to the winds of the desert, the sands shifted as dunes appeared to move overnight. The ground slightly uneven. This would be a good place to test her balance and control. A worthy battleground for anyone. But of course it was… why would the Academy send her somewhere dangerous? Especially for her first fight? The view of the battlefield through her eyes… well ears, and was showing an open field that stretched at least 20 metres in most directions. A few large rocks appeared scattered throughout the area, but they were extremely noticeable and wouldn’t be distractions. Hopefully her opponent would be here shortly… But she was willing to wait. Mai was never a quitter and certainly wouldn’t do so on her first mission.

Ragna

Ragna wasn’t in a very good mood today. It wasn’t like she was normally in one anyway. Today she requested a mission and it actually didn’t take as long as it usually did. It was like they just had missions available to spare. She still wasn’t too thrilled about getting d-rank missions. The mission at least involved combat with another shinobi. Her face wouldn’t show that she was actually intrigued about getting to spar with another person. She cracked her knuckles a couple of times as she made her way to the sparring site. It was probably a good thing she was able to get in a good fight. Though, she wasn’t sure if she would take this seriously or not. There was no way she would be forgiven if she accidentally killed someone. Using her sword would probably be out of the question. There wasn’t much else she could do outside of use strictly ninjutsu. The situation wasn’t that serious. She would just adapt to whatever situation was presented to her. Worse case scenario, she would have to fight someone that was way stronger than her.

Ragna checked her paperwork again to make sure she had the correct details. It seemed like she overlooked a few things. Her partner’s name was Falemai. The name wasn’t familiar to her. She sort of shrugged her shoulders as she continued walking to her destination wondering what kind of fight her opponent would put up. Ragna was definitely feeling a bit better about how she was going to clobber her opponent. It was an enthusiastic feeling resembling a glorious reverb that traveled through her entire being. She gritted her teeth in her excitement of the upcoming spar. The battlefield was close by and she was almost not sure how to contain herself. Today, she was going to have an awesome time. There didn’t seem anything that was going to stop her from enjoying herself. The Shinkai blood that ran through her veins was restless. She could almost hear the thumping of the war drums back on the clan’s ships.

Ragna was finally there. She looked around for her would be sparring partner. It wouldn’t be long before she spotted the red hair. She thought that she may taunt her even though it was probably not the wisest thing to do. Her adrenaline pulsated through body readying herself as she would scream her name “Falemai!!! I’m coming for you.” She hoped that this was who her opponent was supposed to be. There were plenty of rocks that were spread throughout the battlefield. Lucky enough for her, she was a close range fighter. Even if her opponent used long range techniques, the rocks would come in her favor. It made her wonder how her opponent would put up with her. Would Ragna become victorious or would she suffer defeat at the hands of one of her comrades in arms.

“Let’s make this interesting. I don’t like to play around too much with kids. I hope you’re ready.”

Ragna wouldn’t give her a chance to respond as she would rush toward her opponent attempting to uppercut her palm into Falemai’s gut before jumping backward a couple of meters. The strike didn’t have her full strength behind it as she wanted to judge her opponent’s abilities. Ragna even reached back for her sword and grunted as she would unlatch her hand from it. It was too early for her to resort to that. Ragna didn’t want to get too carried away.

“I really want you to make this worth it. I want to be entertained.”
