KIMURA CLAN

kimura | 木村, "tree village"
konohagakure no sato | 木ノ葉隠れの里, "hidden leaf village"
katon | 火遁, "fire release"
Renowned as the 'Servants of the Leaf', the Kimura are a people whose origins predate the Hidden Leaf Village. Much of their early history is unknown, even to the members, however they were present in the Fire Country during the Warring States Period. During this time, their people were ravaged by the warfare of the period and, at the brink of extinction, were saved by the Senju Clan. The Elder of the Kimura and his honour-rich people felt indebted to the Senju and joined them in their battles, defending the saviour of their people to their last breath.
When time came to found Konohagakure, the Kimura were one of the first clans to back the Senju. Because of their aforementioned nickname as the 'Servants for the Leaf' and their traditional feeling of being indebted to the Senju, the Kimura's population have been consistently low compared to other clans, as they are often the first to field themselves in battle, and their historically reckless manner of combat lead to high casualties. The Kimura have been heavy involved in all of Konoha's conflicts, including the Shinobi Wars, invasions, and battles. Even in present day, their loyalty to the village is renowned, as is their penchant for being conservative, as many of the traditions they had during the Warrring States Period continue to persist.

SONS OF THE DRAGON KING
Ryūō no musuko (竜王の息子, meaning "sons of the dragon king") refers to the Kimura's three main abilities: "Ibugan", "Ryū Kokyū", and "Ryūō no honō".
Ryūō no honō (竜王の炎, meaning "flame of the dragon king") bestows upon the user the first flame of the Dragon King. This ability is twofold; the Dragon King cannot be harmed by his own flame, and so too have his clansmen inherited this immunity. A Kimura cannot be burned by their own techniques under any circumstance, be it intentional or otherwise; they are entirely immune to their own fire techniques. Additionally, Kimura are immune to residual, unenhanced fire, be it a product of their own hand or another's, so long as there is not chakra present in them. The second ability is the Dragon King's fire itself, notorious for being unfathomably hot, which empowers the user's Fire Release techniques with incredible, innate damage, granting them maximum damage for the rank of the technique for free.
Ryū Kokyū (呼吸, meaning "dragon's breath") allows the user to instantly mould chakra in their their lungs or stomach and utilize breath-based techniques without employing the use of hand seals or other activation requirements. This allows them to entirely circumvent the necessary preparations for utilizing such techniques, granting them the "No handseals" effect for free on techniques that employ the aforementioned casting descriptors.
In addition to these three main abilities, the Kimura also accrue a 20% reduction to WC and Ryo cost when training and purchasing Fire Release techniques.
EYE OF CINDER
Ibugan (燻眼, meaning "eye of cinder") is a dōjutsu that grants the user the ability to see radiation in the long-infrared range of the electromagnetic spectrum, thus allowing them to produce "thermograms" and effectively see the heat--or lack thereof-- of beings and objects at varying levels of efficiency and definition, thus making it possible to see one's environment with or without visible illumination. The range, proficiency, and auxiliary effects bestowed to the user of Ibugan depend on the rank being used. Ibugan is a notably distinct dōjutsu whose various stages of ability do not change aesthetically and typically remain the same glowing, fiery orange-red hues with slitted pupils, however there are occasionally slight deviations in hue.

RANK DESCRIPTION C-Rank
5 Chakra/post
Requires
Genin/D-Rank
1,500wc
250 ryo The first stage of Ibugan allows the user to see crude heat signatures up to 100-meters away in the form of undefined, blurry, blob-like thermographs with very little to no detail aside from rough estimations of heat levels. (i.e, could not see individual fingers.) At this rank, the user is able to see through uninsulated walls up to 1-meter thick, however the image granted upon the user is clouded when looking through these barriers, and displays a miscellany blob of heat without any notably distinct qualities within 5-meters of heat sources. B-Rank
5 Chakra/post
Requires
Chūnin/C-Rank
2,000wc
500 ryo The second stage of Ibugan increases the range that the user is able to see heat signatures up to 250-meters, and through uninsulated materials up to 3-meters thick, however the image granted upon the user when looking through these barriers is clouded, and displays a miscellany blob of heat without any notably distinct qualities within 2-meters of heat sources. The normal heat signatures are more detailed and refined, now able to see with efficiency akin to thermographic cameras rather than the unrefined, blurry blobs of the previous rank. (i.e, could see individual fingers) A-Rank
10 Chakra/post
Requires
Tokujō/B-Rank
2,500wc
750 ryo The third stage of Ibugan further increases the user's ability to see heat signatures up to 500-meters, and through any amount of uninsulated material, as well as insulated walls up to 3-meters thick. The heat signatures at this rank are perfectly defined with the same amount of detail as they would be able to see without the Ibugan active, and can even see subtle changes in the temperature of the atmosphere as well as discerning between multiple different sources of heat. At this rank, the user also develops telescopic capabilities in their eyes, allowing the user to see any distance within the Ibugan's range as if they were 20-meters away. S-Rank
15 Chakra/post
Requires
Jōnin/A-Rank
4,000wc
1,000 ryo The final stage of Ibugan increases the user's ability to see up to 1-kilometer away, through any amount of material. The heat signatures at this rank are pristine and can be viewed with higher accuracy and detail than the user's natural eye-sight, even allowing them to detect the tiniest change of atmospheric temperature and see through multiple sources of heat, as well as seeing residual heat signatures left behind on objects or in the environment for up to 3-posts after they've been made. Additionally, the user is granted thermoception-- not sight based, but rather their ability to feel heat-- within a 20-meter radius of their person when Ibugan is active.
More-so, the user's telescopic vision capabilities are enhanced further, and allow the user to see any distance within the Ibugan's range as if they were only 5-meters away, and can focus in on and magnify their vision on subjects within 1-meter enough to such a degree that the user could even see the individual heat of their target's blood cells. In addition to this, users of the Ibugan at this level can determine if a person is lying by detecting even the most minute changes in facial temperatures.
DRAWBACKS
X |
- Ibugan is susceptible to blinding flashes of light, and sustain one additional post of blindness whenever it is active and the user is blinded by such effects.
- Kimura must take Fire Release as their primary element.
- Kimura cannot generate or utilize any water techniques or water-aligned abilities on items, scrolls, weapons, or armour, and cannot learn to use Water Release.
- Kimura sustain +1 rank of damage from offensive Water Release jutsu, identical to the degree of damage from the original damage source. (i.e max D-Rank damage would become max C-Rank.)
- Kimura can only use techniques that are not fire release at their shinobi rank or lower. They are capable of using fire techniques one rank above as usual.
- Kimura are especially susceptible to genjutsu, thus when escaping such illusions, they require pain or kai of 2-ranks higher than the genjutsu's rank to do so.
- Kimura must take the Hesitant (Element) negative special characteristic, which cannot be balanced with a positive.
- Kimura must take the following negative special characteristic, which cannot be balanced with a positive:
- Undying Devotion:
Name: Undying Devotion (Kimura | Konohagakure)
Type: Negative
Description: This individual has sworn an undying oath of duty to the village of their origin, and boast undying patriotism for their affiliation. The individual is incapable of, and would never consider defecting from Konohagakure no Sato.
