Round One: Yasubei vs. Yoshihiro Joe O4uJlKt

You reach the arena via a small working town, overlooked by the Great Naruto Bridge. This arena consists of a series of docks which extend 40m offshore and are each 10m away. Ferries and smaller vessels regularly pass within a few meters of the ends of the pier, the decks of which have been vacated for the purposes of hosting your combat temporarily. Be careful - getting stuck on any given waterfaring vessel for more than 2 posting rounds causes you to exit the docks, eliminating you by ring-out.

Yasubei entered the battlefield rather unceremoniously. He stood atop one of the many boats that would be going past the docks this afternoon. He wore a thin chain undershirt hidden under a black cloak. Most everything on his person was hidden by this long black cloak that billowed in the wind as the ship sailed into the pier. As he entered into the in bounds area he'd nod at the ship's helmsman, a burly shirtless man whose beard and chest hair would make one more inclined to liken him to a wild beast than to a mere man.

"Thank you for passage. Sorry I couldn't fix up your ship completely." The eternal genin would sling a small two foot puppet over his right shoulder and hop down onto the middle deck of the five, 10 meter wide decks in the arena. Yasu would deeply inhale once as he moved to the center of the deck he was on steeling himself for the fight to come. Setting down the little tiger on the deck, and slightly lowering himself into a relatively neutral stance. He felt the flow of his chakra and made sure it was ready to be molded.

"Ha! Don't  worry about it kid!" Yasubei could barely hear him because as he jumped onto the pier the crowd went haywire ready to see the the first round begin. Though some of them may have come to see a return contestant none of them would immediately recognize Yasu, whose alabaster form was slightly different than the shape he'd taken on the last time he'd appeared in the exams. This was a body he'd created on his own with his medical and engineering knowledge. It was Yasu's opinion that it was better suited for fights like this than his base body, which was much more difficult to repair to peak condition, and was very aesthetic.

As he waited for the arrival of his opponent he was motionless save for the dramatic sea breeze billowing through his gorgeous locks. His grip tightened on the large fan he wielded it's mass gently resting on the wood in front of him. His now empty cracked slightly like old leather as he flexed the joints of his rarely used creation. When his opponent arrived he would form the seal of confrontation before he getting down to business. He may have anticipated no foul play, but on the off chance the puppet master kept a keen eye out for its wily head to make an appearance.

The day had finally come. Yoshi had both been anticipating this day and dreading it all of his life. The Chuunin Exams had arrived in full force. As much as he had trained, created new jutsu, and sparred against his fellow-Genin, he knew that none of that meant anything now. He had a strange feeling in his gut, almost like an equilibrium between being terrified and ready to rumble. Adrenaline was starting to circulate through his body as he stood on the modest boat being pushed along the water by the ferryman to the docks. "Good luck sonny, don't fuck it up!" the old man smiled, oh the wisdom of his elders. Yoshi gave the man a nod and a small smile, he'd try his best- but naturally, he couldn't make a promise to not do something foolish. No plan survived being punched in the face by a fist called reality.

He arrived shortly after his opponent. The small boat pulled up to the second dock from the left, one across from where the other teen was standing. Yoshi got a good look at him as he approached, and holy heck did he sure look spooky. The cloaked figure made it impossible to see what he was carrying, beyond maybe the essentials such as kunai and shuriken. That horn too looked like business, and not the good kind. Still, the Genin couldn't help but raise his hand to wave at the figure as he approached. Gah, what was he doing? He had to look tough and intimidating! This was a real fight! He hadn't planned what he would say ahead of time, truthfully, he had just woken up that morning and decided to wing it.

Yoshi stepped off the boat and onto the dock, keeping his eye on the other figure. He'd be on his guard, ready for him to dash across the water or raise an arm to shoot something at him. The sounds of the crowd cheering fell on deaf ears, all of this still felt surreal to him. Yoshi would come to a stop in the middle of the deck, putting roughly 20 meters between him and the other figure when including where they stood on the docks and the water in-between. "I'm Yoshi. I reckon we'll have to fight now" the teen said, watching as the other figure made the seal of confrontation. "You're gonna have to beat me, and I'm gonna have to beat you. So, you do your part, and I'll do mine. Alright?" he called over the water. It wasn't the most intimidating thing. Heck, he wasn't sure what he was supposed to be doing here, even if he felt as though he had to say something.

Yoshi took a ready stance, his weight on the falls of his feet as he formed the seal of confrontation opposite of his opponent. With that, the battle would begin.

Yasubei watched his opponent come down off of the boat that he'd traveled here on. The other genin on receiver a bit of enthusiastic encouragement as he got off, a sure fire sign of his character. Though logic would probably disagree the idea, It was possible that the ability to even get here was something the proctors were testing. Yasubei looked his the opposing genin over, investigating quickly to see if he had any readily visible weapons on him or any quirky traits that might make the upcoming battle arduous. The answer seemed to be no at a precursory glance. The answer seemed to be a 'No'. The genin would respond to the other's wave with a gentle nod.  "I'm Yoshi. I reckon we'll have to fight now. You're gonna have to beat me, and I'm gonna have to beat you. So, you do your part, and I'll do mine. Alright?"

As the other genin spoke Yasu raised his fingers into the seal of confrontation, pleasantly surprised by what he perceived as his opponent's masked yet aesthetic fighting spirit. Yasubei responded in an even tone, just barely loud enough to be heard "Alright. I'll make sure to make this fight aesthetic as well." The embers of Yoshi's will were warm even from a distance. "Make sure you hold tight to your fighting spirit." Yasubei would flex his chakra. beginning at the core centered in his chest chakra would spread through his puppet body. As Yoshi lowered his own seal of confrontation, so too would Yasu. He would speak once more, warm, vermilion chakra, forming like sweat from pores, forming a layer of dense chakra around his body. "Because I have no intention of losing." The red-orange cloak surrounding him was itself a response to Yoshihiro fighting spirit.

Yasubei would tightly grip his war fan in his left hand, lifting it parallel to the ground across his own chest. With slow deliberate steps, he'd begin moving from the center of his own pier closer to the edge getting about a foot away from it's lip. As he took his first step he would swing mightily with the fan sending a one meter wide orb gliding in his direction. The projectile moved at 15 m/s per second, giving Yoshi time and space to analyze its properties, but the barrage wouldn't end there. Yasu would continue sending the orbs at him one after the other. The second would be sent immediately after the first in its wake. A third, fourth, and fifth would be sent after Yoshi following and would be adjusted to hit him. If he was moving in a direction the orb would aim to hit where he would be. Any orb that made contact with the pier would cause small cracks to form at the point of contact. Any orb that hit Yoshihiro would cause very light bruising all along the area of contact and would thrust him three meters back, barring a countermeasure being put in place to defend against the orbs or hold himself in place.

"FYI." The genin said still monitoring his volume.
"I am Yasubei. The Cicada Hidden in the Sand."

Well, the formalities were out of the way, now they could try to crush each other like men without feeling too bad about it. Yoshi kept his hands close together as the seal of confrontation was finished, starting the fight officially. Their willpower was clashing in every way save for physical. It wouldn't take long for one of them to make their first move. As Yasubei gripped his war fan, raising it up to be parallel with his chest, Yoshi would form the Bird hand seal. The air in a six meter circle centered around Yasu would suddenly and briefly crackle with electricity as he took his first step forwards to swipe with his fan, the momentum of swinging such a large and cumbersome weapon leading his arms and upper body towards the edge of the dock despite his firm footwork.

After this second of crackling electricity, the air around the Genin would roar to life, launching the man upwards ten meters into the air and dealing major first degree burns all along his body if the attack hit. Given that Yoshi had initiated the jutsu whilst Yasu was mid-swing in his first attack, and that the man had never seen this ability before nor knew what it did, Yoshi aimed to have the sudden pillar of lightning take the man off guard and capitalize on the single second needed before Yasu could realize what was going on or what the static air around him meant. Ideally, the upwards blast of lightning would come too quick for him to trigger some sort of defensive or movement ability.

Regardless of whether the Thunder Pillar hit the other male or not, Yoshi would still need to evade the oncoming orb of wind. Deciding to remain on the offensive, the teen dashed forwards, using both his natural speed as well as a new jutsu to enhance his mobility. From a stationary position, the black haired Genin would zip across the water at an angle which would put him out of the first orbs way whilst placing him on near the edge of the dock five meters away from where Yasubei would have been. He stood between the other man and the mainland. As Yoshi would dash, he would hold his kunai in his right hand, facing where the Genin was in case he might try and attack him in mid-air, though the rapid speed making it difficult for one to do so. Yoshi would watch Yasu intently as he moved, waiting to either capitalize on his Thunder Pillar or to react to any other action that the man would take. Upon landing on Yasu's dock, the boy would keep his hands ready to use another jutsu or react to Yasu accordingly.

Before the battle began to discover its pace, but just after Yasubei had activated his primary defensive jutsu. The two genin already clashed wills to set the tempo to the match. A single step into his assault, a single swing into setting the pacing and the contest had finally started. Yasu could easily see the singular hand seal performed by Yoshihiro, and this was the play he'd expected. The inevitable counter to a foreign technique. He'd led his opponent to believe he'd played rock, and then they themselves would play paper. Then he smelled and saw the change in the air the fresh sea breeze was gone. 'It's Ozone.' The smell of lightning was one he remembered from the pyrocumulonimbus that formed above the hidden sand on the days after the initial attack. In the back swing of his first swing he saw the crackle of lightning surround him, though no more than 10 meters in front of him. His opponent didn't counter. Yoshihiro had seen through his ruse and also played rock.

Yasubei didn't wait to see what would happen next. He didn't know if the lightning was going to get more intense, if it'd become a prison jutsu, or if it was a distraction. Before the train of thought could conclude he'd already utilized a jutsu to escape from the area. He would vanish from sight, sound, and smell at least from the perspective of any onlooker with less than C-3 Perception, Yoshihiro included. Probably most genin included. When he reappeared he'd be a safe thirteen meters from the explosion. He'd moved from the very edge of the pier, where he'd stepped off of the boat, closer towards the center finishing his second step. The area around Little Tiger erupted in a pillar of lightning, albeit one smaller than he'd anticipated. As he finished his second step, his eyes would snap from his new puppet to the genin launching his way from the other dock.

Fast movement from one point to another was Yasu's best jutsu, it wasn't difficult to guess where he'd land. Yasubei pointed his horn at the spot he expected Yoshi would plant himself then launch four senbon one after the other, each moving at 55 m/s leaving 3.5 inch deep wounds. Yoshihiro would land, give or take, eight meters from Yasu meaning dodging the psuedo-senbon would be difficult, but he would attempt to adjust any of them after the third if necessary, in case his opponent managed to dodge with a substitution or more fast movement. All four shots would be aimed for the chest to make it easier for him to hit with them against the genin as he arrived just out side of the radius of his own diminishing jutsu. "It  would seems I overestimated the size of your jutsu."

He'd reached back with his right hand unsheathing his Fuma shuriken attaching 2 chakra threads to it, tossing it heartily towards the edge of the pier. With a flick of his wrist he sent it to launching it past Yoshihiro, arcing it down to hover just over Little Tiger who was absolutely scorched from the jutsu, some of his inner workings exposed. One of the chakra strings would attach to Little Tiger and the other would make the fuma shuriken clip Little Tiger and cause the shuriken to fall into the wood lodging itself there. The cindering Tiger would stand now flanking Yoshihiro.

As the Fire Daimyo might say: 'Close, but no cigar'. Yoshi was disappointed that his sleight of hand had failed, but did not let the feeling consume him. One moment Yasubei had been standing there mid-swing, then in a sudden blur, he had moved a significant distance away from where the eruption of Lightning had occurred. It was becoming rapidly apparent to the Genin that the other teen was fast, easily faster than himself on a basic level, it was much like fighting Ting again save for the deadly conflict between them both. He would need to remain crafty to pull out a win, moving in a straight line would make him a sitting duck for whatever jutsu the other man would prepare: he would have to try another tactic to avoid the full brunt of his overwhelming speed.

As the teen zipped through the air at the start of his dash, he would suddenly tilt his head back and to his right, exhaling quickly as a strong stream of wind pushed him down from his original destination on the dock, as well as swerving him rapidly to the left. This sudden explusion of wind would push the teen easily down so that his feet would touch down against the surface of the water. The force of the dash still carrying him a full distance, the Genin exercised his expertise in Chakra Flow, transitioning from being airborne to skidding along the surface of the water as he disappeared underneath the dock, curving sharply. The angle at which he kept his head to his right would zip him away from his original destination, moving three meters closer to where Yasu was than originally intended. He would be out of the line of sight of Yasubei, as well as out of danger from his horn. The pressurized water would zip through the air and the wood of the dock where Yasu guessed the other boy would originally land, only to find nothing there at all. For all intents and purposes, it would seem as though the Yoshi had slipped up and fallen into the water.

The space between the docks above him and surface of the water was cramped, only about a meter and a half in height. It was enough for the teen to work with however, his body squatting somewhat, his knees bent as he weaved a quick bird hand seal. Reaching back with one arm, Yoshi would materialize a Javelin of Lightning in his hand, immediately aiming it at the spot where he had last seen Yasubei to be standing on the dock following his dash. In a swift motion, the teen would launch the piercing bolt of lightning, causing it to easily burn through the dock, traveling at 20 m/s at a diagonal distance of 4 meters between Yoshi and the other Genin. Just as Yasu would manipulate his shuriken to regain control of his puppet, the 5 foot javelin would emerge from below the dock and launch itself towards his chest. Given that Yasu would no longer have a direct line-of-sight of Yoshi, nor hearing/seeing him as he quickly cast the jutsu, he would have little to no warning in regards to the point-blank javelin being launched at him from below. Should the attack land, Yasu would find the spear digging 1.5 inches into his chest as well as dealing minor 2d degree burns.

Once the Javelin had been fired, Yoshi would move forwards, not wishing for the other man to retaliate with some sort of attack through the large hole the spear had created. Just as Yasu would be able to vageuly hear Yoshi's footsteps as he hastily moved along the water beneath the dock, so would the Genin be able to much more easily hear the Cicada's heavy footsteps on the wood above him. Yoshi had to admit that he had a respect for the other man and his speed, it was something that the human couldn't match- instead, he'd have to think of some rather... aesthetic and crafty tricks to get the drop on his opponent.

Yasubei launched his first senbon where his opponent would land, at least where he thought he’d land. He’d hold back from using any of the other senbon as it would simply be a waste of effort As he shot at the dock and missed he’d notice his oppoment redirect himself downwards Yasu’s eyes snapping towards him as he skidded under the deck. He’d peer through the slits running parrellel to the deck itself. While he couldn’t easily make out where the other genin was, he’d be able to disceen his general location by the movement he could see through the length wise cracks and the sound of the splashing water getting closer and closer to him.

Yasu would decide to play it defensively. He’d glance upwards towards his fuma shuriken and the Little Tiger. The fuma shuriken was barely holding itself together and the puppet was severly damaged. He notice light dancing just beneath him. All the cue he’d need to move out of the way. He’d use his manic mantle to close half the distance between himself and his puppet in a single bound. He’d leave behind a convincing afterimage to be impaled as he would continue forward the last six meters to pick up the little tiger.

There was a moment of elation for Yoshi as he saw the figure of an impaled Yasu above him through the hole that had formed in the projectile's wake, but as the sounds of 'thud thud thud' rumbled from behind him towards the edge of the dock, he knew that the other Genin had slipped out of his grasp. Still, it wasn't the end for Yoshi, whom was quickly deducing that his opponent favored a long-range style of combat, considering the use of his war fan as well as those projectiles that had pierced the dock behind him. It wasn't the best type of match-up for Yoshi, who considered himself more of a mid-range fighter, but so far he was managing to keep his opponent on the ropes. Now, with him running towards the end of the dock, Yoshi knew that he had the other man cornered somewhat. Unless he would use yet another dashing ability to escape to one of the parallel structures, he'd run out of room to run.

Yoshi would quickly form the bird hand seal, prompting a trio of bizzare and cartoonish looking crows to materialize around him. Turning swiftly to face the end of the dock, whilst being beneath it, the boy would command the three crows to fly along the underside of the structure at rapid speed towards where the sounds of footsteps were loudest. Given that the crows could fly at about 20 meters per second, as well as their silence as they approached along the underside of the surface Yasu was standing on, they would blur too quickly and too silently for the other Genin to see them or otherwise know they were homing in on his position. The small cracks that had given away the boy's lightning javelin before would be virtually useless as the speed of the birds made them too quick to notice through the wood.

For his part, the teen would poke his head up through the hole created by his javelin, only peeking out so that his head from his eyes up were visible to Yasu- if he had turned around by now instead of kept running. A mere glimpse of the other man would be all that Yoshi would need to pinpoint his position, even if he was still running. The birds, having easily closed the distance between Yoshi and the other boy as the latter poked his head up, would suddenly jerk upwards in unison towards the ground that Yasu stood on, providing minimal room for the other teen to retaliate against his opponent. The birds would rupture the ground beneath Yasu, blasting the man with a combined explosion of air chakra that would send him flying 15 meters directly upwards into the air, as well as affected by the splintering shrapnel of the wooden docks. Should the attack hit, Yoshi would instantly form a second bird seal before reaching out with his hand and willing a stream of fast moving air chakra at 25 meters per second in the direction of  the airborne opponent, causing the air around the man to be crushed inwards from all sides as if there were a hydraulic press crunching him from every direction. This was the attack which Yoshi had been waiting to use.

Following this second jutsu, the boy would form a third and final bird seal, aiming to cap off his finishing combo by sending a final stream of chakra through the air that, upon coming within 2 meters of Yasu, the air around his body would surge and slap him down out of the sky with a powerful concussive blast which would smack him down at rapid speed against the water- a painful bellyflop if ever there could be such a thing.

Yoshi would watch from his lil hole, ready to evade or dodge in case his initial bird bombers had missed their mark, though given the speed and silence of the attack, it would be quite a feat for the other man to do so.

Yasu would arrive at his puppet mere moments before the birds would catch up to him. His opponent having had to ascertain his location, would give him enough space to out pace them at least to the end of the dock. If not possibly a little further. Yasu had no intention of running though, and had only retreated to get his puppet. Upon firmly clasping the puppet in his hands he’d snap around only briefly seeing silhouettes of the crows closing in beneath him. Not knowing what his opponent was capable of he’d have to assume it’d be another lightning attack that’d come from beneath. He reacted to it as he should have the first lightning pillar.

Yasubei began to rapidly swing the fan using the weight of the weapon to allow him to rotate himself a little more as the crows were mere fractions of a second from impact. In the very beginnings of drawback for the swing he’d release his Tonjutsu leaving the fan behind. The coating of chakra would thicken and launch him towards the hole where the genin looked out waiting to activate more jutsu. Regardless of whether or not the jutsu hit Yasu’s Tonjutsu would be protecting him from up to two C-Ranks, the highest rank of jutsu he’d expected to encounter in these matches. Yasu would drop down into the hole scanning the area only briefly enough to locate his opponent. With another surge he’d activate the manic mantle as his feet found purchase on the water. If his opponent was within the five meters manic mantle could move him he’d jet past him clawing at his side attemting to sever oblique muscles. If not he would shoot four senbon made of water from the horn atop his head, two aiming for the right calf two for the abdomen each piercing 2.5 inches into any flesh they came in contact with.

Again, the rapid speed of his opponent managed to slip away from one of his sneaky jutsu attacks. One moment Yasu was picking up his puppet and swinging his fan, the next he was turning to look at him in what Yoshi knew by now was a sure-fire sign of an incoming dash. Yoshi lowered his head from the hole his javelin had made, moving a few steps towards the end of the dock so as to stand behind where he expected the other man to face upon appearing. It didn't take a great strategist to know what would soon follow, Yasu wanted to fight him at close combat now. Sure enough, the footsteps of the ending dash stomped down onto the wood directly above Yoshi. Instinctively, the Genin wheeled his leg around in front of him. Just as the other man would drop down onto the water from the docks above, a blistering gust of wind would erupt to send him right back up again, leaving no room to dodge mid-drop and throwing him upwards against and through the wood 5 meters into the air. His shield would certainly block the damage of such an attack, but that wouldn't save him from the current of the wind as it knocked him upwards chest-first faster than he would be able to turn around and face Yoshihiro.

The Konoha Genin, for his part, wouldn't stand idly by as he had before. As Yasu would rocket up through the wooden docks, his body being flung like a ragdoll (no pun intended), Yoshi would clap his hands together for a moment only to release them upwards just as Yasu's body would reach the apex of its ascenion. He knew that the man's horn and ranged attacks were no joke, and the slicing Gales that would surge upwards against him would in turn knock aside any desperate ranged projectile that the black and white shinobi might attempt to shoot at him with. Unfortunately, as he saw the aura surrounding the other boy, Yoshi realized that his opponent was surrounded in a defensive technique. The cutting winds would find their mark against the helpless airborne target, breaking Yasu's shield and setting the man up for the preferred finishing combo that Yoshi had cooked up himself.

With Yasu roughly 10 meters above him, Yoshi would form the bird hand seal, sending a stream of Futon to meet his now unprotected form. As the Genin had intended originally, the air around the other male would compress inwards from every angle in a sickening crunching effect that would feel similar to a hydraulic press his whole body was trapped under. As this effect would take place, Yoshi would form a second bird hand seal, releasing another stream of Futon that would knock the other man downwards out of the sky at a sickening concussive speed. This was his chance.

Yoshi lept up off the water and above the docks, his hand pulling back and becoming sheathed in a layer of Futon and Raiton. With a mighty roar, "Falcon...PUNCH!" the teen smashed his fist upwards against the falling man's body, the empowered blow knocking him up again as well as drilling into his spine with a sickening crunch. The combined Futon and Raiton would spin violently around the teen's arm, forming the shape of a bird of prey cawing loudly as Yoshi would attempt to initiate a coup de grace against his opponent. Should the combined wombo combo of jutsu all find their mark and go off as planned, Yasu's puppet body would shatter and fracture under the concussive blows being done, breaking his body asunder. This would be the teen's best shot at winning this match, he was unloading everything he had left in the tank on this one. His stamina was already being drained by the constant movement between the two, he couldn't keep this up. With his bet riding on taking the other Genin off guard as he dropped blindly onto the water, leaving him no room or time to move in the cramped space he'd rushed into, Yoshi was swinging for the proverbial fences.

ROUND ONE DEADLINE HAS BEEN REACHED

Round One: Yasubei vs. Yoshihiro Joe. Yasubei has exhausted pretty much every defense he's got against Yoshihiro's more offensive arsenal. Yoshihiro has been controlling the flow of the match, and has more offensive jutsu with which to break through any last defenses Yasubei may still have. Based on the flow of the match it can be extrapolated that Yasubei is in an unfavorable position.

Based on this, Yoshihiro Joe wins the round.
