EXAM ARENAS, INITIAL ROUNDS MhEKDH3

To test the mettle of contestants in the Chunin Exams, Fire Country has devised a number of trick arenas which will be employed for the tournament's first two rounds. All arenas are 50m radius unless stated otherwise. Certain mechanics are able to be subverted through quick thinking, jutsu or other such problem solving and contestants are encouraged to employ creative tactics, use the arenas to their advantages and the like throughout the duration of the Exams. If not otherwise specified, contestants enter from doors on opposite sides of the arena. Arenas are assigned randomly.

EXAM ARENAS, INITIAL ROUNDS I0Z7lKB

An arena covered wall to wall in tall grass, seven feet high. As contestants enter, they will immediately notice their vision is impaired by the thick reeds of grass, however, there is something more at work. Combatants cannot see more than 1m around themselves with vision alone, heavily obscuring one another from view, but any movement in this grassy arena causes extremely loud rustling as the grass is pushed to and fro, allowing shinobi to pinpoint one another through sound. Whenever a shinobi moves in this arena, the direction they are in relative to their opponent is immediately revealed.

EXAM ARENAS, INITIAL ROUNDS 3eljTfm

Entering at opposite ends, this otherwise bland arena is a circular coliseum with a spiral pattern depicted on the floor. When the match begins, exits are sealed and the arena's mechanisms begin to churn. Beginning as a 50m radius, the spiral patterns serve as guidelines for walls which close in from all directions, reducing the arena's effective radius by 10m each posting round, with the final 10m being reduced to a 2m radius within which the combatants will eventually find themselves fighting. Contestants enter the arena at opposite sides of the circle.

EXAM ARENAS, INITIAL ROUNDS Mnm3Lg4

This arena takes the form of a serene lake, in the center of which is an island with a 10m radius. Contestants enter on similar banks, 1m radius islands on opposite sides of the arena. The arena is otherwise unremarkable save for necessitating the use of Supernatural Walking Practice, or the ability to swim in order to navigate.

EXAM ARENAS, INITIAL ROUNDS 4R1lWs8

Rising from an artificial forest floor, contestants enter atop a wild canopy of dense forest, with doors leading them onto its apex. The terrain itself is wildly unpredictable at the top, practically necessitating the use of Supernatural Walking Practice to navigate without hindrance. However, dropping below the canopy reveals an arena of tall trees with sparse horizontal foliage for climbing.

EXAM ARENAS, INITIAL ROUNDS T9LeFaL

Covered with a specialized glass dome that allows spectators to watch without allowing light to enter the arena, contestants will find themselves in a black room, unable to see at all without the aid of techniques or items which provide vision in pitch black. However, the arena contains five torches, one in the center, and four at points 20m away to the left and right of where each contestant enters. These torches provide 10m radius light sources by which shinobi can navigate and detect one another. Curiously, though each of these light sources and all within their radius can be seen from anywhere in the arena, their light does not spill past the zone prescribed to them.

EXAM ARENAS, INITIAL ROUNDS UjMGmQZ

Located at the site of one of Konoha’s newly minted railway depots, this arena takes place atop the hustle and bustle of moving train cars. Tunnels on all sides of the arena allow trains to pass to and fro through the arena at high speeds, with each train only remaining within the battleground for a single posting round before making it necessary to jump to a new train. Chakra barrier configurations prevent contestants from leaving or entering the tunnels designed for the locomotives, and in this arena, touching the ground means disqualification.

EXAM ARENAS, INITIAL ROUNDS Xm68Aw3

A circular arena with a myriad of weapons strewn throughout its area. With no mechanical or environmental hazards, this arena instead provides ample weaponry and ammunition to competitors who fight in it. While occupying this arena, C-rank catalog weapons of any Weapon Style are always considered within reach, as are E-rank shuriken, senbon, and kunai projectiles also matching those found in the weapon catalog, though contestants are limited to the use of one such weapon, or three such projectiles per post.

EXAM ARENAS, INITIAL ROUNDS IYbJonR

Entered from the North and South, this dusty arena is beset by howling, gale force winds from the East to West. Contestants in this arena running in the same direction of the wind have their speed increased by 10m/s, while those moving against the current will have their movement speed decreased by 10m/s. This effect is conferred to projectiles and jutsu speeds alike. However, these winds are not natural, and instead generated by jutsu used by proctors instructed to change the direction of the gust: each posting round, the direction of the wind reverses (East to West, then West to East, then East to West again, etc)

EXAM ARENAS, INITIAL ROUNDS 1lyr3oO

Located in the southwest areas of the Land of Fire, these lowlands are inundated with rain, down to the soil being soaked. The arena is a sort of labyrinth of waterlogged ground interspersed with meter-deep water. The water makes running impossible while even partially submerged, and the land proves little better as a foothold; the slick mud comprising the embankments causes anyone moving above 10m/s on them to move 5m forward uncontrollably. Unlike standing on the surface of the water, Supernatural Walking Practice has little bearing on the shifting semi-solid mud.

EXAM ARENAS, INITIAL ROUNDS 8PoLbXm

A seemingly normal tiled stage, entered by combatants on each side. Walled in on all sides, this venue would appear at first glance to be completely untampered with. After 2 posts pass, or any contestant uses an earth-altering technique or attack, the earth beneath the arena will rumble - the very infrastructure is unstable! At the beginning of this change - on the post after it is triggered - the center 5m of tiles will drop into a pit far below the original floor. On the second round (after both combatants have posted), the gap will advance another 10m; on the third round the chasm will increase in width by a 15m radius. By the end of the fourth round, the entire fighting area of the stadium will be nothing but a pit, and contestants will be forced to use the Supernatural Walking Practice to avoid a fall.

EXAM ARENAS, INITIAL ROUNDS O4uJlKt

You reach the arena via a small working town, overlooked by the Great Naruto Bridge. This arena consists of a series of docks which extend 40m offshore and are each 10m away. Ferries and smaller vessels regularly pass within a few meters of the ends of the pier, the decks of which have been vacated for the purposes of hosting your combat temporarily. Be careful - getting stuck on any given waterfaring vessel for more than 2 posting rounds causes you to exit the docks, eliminating you by ring-out.
