At the very highest peak of the mountain shinobi village, the Skyforge existed for ions practically, rumored to predate even the warring state period. It is a forge that has created masterwork pieces of items, from sword and glaives, to shield and armor, to legendary items. The people who worked here are families of old who dwindled due to the various wars that demanded their services and claimed their member’s lives as payments. Some centuries ago the forging families began to take outside apprentices more often and now you can find traditional and new age blacksmiths here working side by side to create lovely works of art. It has actually sparked a forging war between Kumo and Kiri. Kumo has long dominated the masterwork blacksmith industry but at the time when the Seven Swordsmen were created, Kiri had begun creating their own masterwork pieces, with the current generation of weapons for the Seven Swordsmen are rumored to exceed their predecessors in terms of beauty, functionality, and deadlines. Kiri has the Iron Banner, a group whose work is not only very much affordable if you work hard enough, but is seen to be the now creme of the crop. It is almost like the Skyforge is the classic beauty and the Iron Banner is the modern star. Therefore both forges have been working quite hard to beat out the other which has possibly led to the current predicament that Mitsuru is facing.
Mitsuru has taken upon themselves to complete their steady and slow stream of D-ranks as per usual when they saw a disgruntled older man leave the mission office, muttering about some damn thieves and having to get back to the forge. With their curiosity intrigued, the Hayashida went inside the mission disposal office and inquired about what the man needed. The administrators at the office are not exactly supposed to fully disclose the details of missions past the brief description they are usually given but Mitsuru is so well known and liked by the offices that they felt it was like talking to an old friend about neighborhood gossip. Apparently, the old man was Kamashita, Yurosei, one of the blacksmiths at the Skyforge. He is not a member, not by blood anyway, of the blacksmithing families but is an honorary one. He alongside others are tasked with supplying the academy and new genin with their supplies, with Yurosei specifically known for his daggers, knives, and kunai. Some time in the middle of last night, someone had snuck into the forge and stolen the materials needed for the new shipment he was working on. The thief was not caught however a torn piece of cloth with a branch and partial wolf head was found at the crime scene, probably a remnant of clothing torn when a trap was triggered against anti-theft, not that it helped much. Prior to Hastur's era, nobody would really take notice or care that much, assuming it was one of the rival blacksmiths or just an arrant thief. However since Hatsur took office, everything has been scrutinized much more so than before and the fact supplies from Kumo’s place of weapon crafting for its soldiers was stolen from and there was no clue how, why, or whom, there was now an ongoing investigation of the crimes. The running pool was currently a bet on whether it was a simple thief, one of the rival blacksmith families, or the rather quietly whispered about, the Iron Banner since the rumored scrap of cloth work design slightly matches the company’s sigil.
Now Mitsuru was confused, if there was an investigation already going on, why did Yurosei leave so unhappily. The comment made the paper ninja laugh. Basically, Yurosei is known to have a temperament and will explode if anything inhibits his work. He claims to have not missed an order in decades and refused to miss one today over some kunai because some brat thought he could get away with fucking his work over, his words not the ninjas. So he posted a mission to gather the materials for his forging so he would not miss the order and did not want to wait even though the desk ninja warned him that such tasks might take some time since D-rank missions especially were not favorably looked upon for most ninja who preferred to leave it to newbies. Yurosei, however, did not care and said that in lew of a normal ryo reward he would be willing to provide an alternative reward within reason. Mitsuru had plenty of time today so they took the mission.
According to the mission scroll, the blacksmith needed five Corundum ingots, five iron ingots, and ten pelts. Mitsuru did not claim to be a blacksmith but was quite perplexed. The ingots made sense but the pelts did not. Perhaps they would be able to ask the blacksmith for more information and perhaps stay to watch the process. It took little more than half the day but by the time the sun began to set, Mitsuru managed to gather the materials. For the ingots, Mitsuru went to the mine originally to get the ingots themselves but by offering their healing services and some of their intellect, they managed to get some the ingots from the miner's by gaining their favor. For the pelts, they went to a hunter's lodge and negotiated for the pelts, getting them at half the cost due to their persuasion skills.
Their reward for their efforts in this mission would have been learning the temporary healing technique since it was easy to get injured in the forge. Not the greatest reward but decent enough. However, they weren't interested in that or a scrap token and just took a ryo reward.
