The excavated passage. A tunnel network said to lead to a variety of places. A true maze of undergrowth tunnels never charted out. It was on this that the crow sage was laying eyes now, the vast entrance leading into the underground network guarded by the remnants of Ryujin forces and Suna refugees slaving away to bring it buried treasures and long forgotten secrets. Yosei had shown them this network, intending to use for his own plans, but now the Jugo was thinking on how she could put it to good use. Konoha was far away, the Land of Demons even further away. Though Yosei believed they'd lead into the Land of Fire the distance between this place and Konoha was quite a distance away. A trip taking days. A sure route. Known. Safe, for the most part.
This road was a total opposite. No one knew where the tunnels lead to, which ones were dead ends and which ones lead forward. No sky or stars to orient by, nothing to measure time. A dead world swallowing those who entered, intending only to erase their existence and make the world forget about their presence. Perfect for a little crow such as hers, for the few that knew who she was and to whom her loyalties laid were perhaps better off forgetting her. One had already taken her secret to her grave, the great Snake having died on the battlefield. Her dreams and hopes smothered under the Four remaining Nations along with the Ryujin that ran to their deaths. The thought that the other Nations were better off suffering a similar fate as Sunagakure vehemently fuelled her mind, only to be pushed down second after. Destruction of a Village was worthless if the people simply flocked together and rebuild it. Destruction had to happen at its root, not at its crown.
"What are you waiting for?", the familiar voice of her mistress' pet hissed, disdain for her hesitation apparent. The white snake was right though. Despite the girl holding little attachment to life as she worked her way towards a permanent embrace of death, she could feel fear lick on the surface. Worries about dying as she searched for the exit. A slow, pitiful death. Was this where it all would end now? The one working to have Yomi devour the world afraid of its embrace? The crow sage banished such short-sighted visions from her mind. The Jugo steeled its resolve with madness and brazen folly. Laïs moved on. If she couldn't get through the underground maze, than what good would she be when she unleashed Yomi?
Armed and armoured she moved forward. The Snake Sage's pet quietly urging her on, her own raven sitting on her shoulder as it eyed the gaping maw of Dankness. With every step she got closer, it felt like the maw was only getting bigger and more terrifying.
"See it as a wedding. Run away, you'll regret it. Waste your life in there, you'll regret it too. The choice is a walk in the park if you ask me.".
"You're not helping, Cormac, so be quiet."
"That's Lord Cormac for you, misses."
The woman would roll her eyes at the insane bird. He was right on one thing. Regret. He certainly made her regret the choice of having spoon-fed him Jugo-tainted blood and meat, the black bird now haunting her wherever he went. Such were the consequences of one's choices, the girl having thought more than once she should just beat him to death and dump his body somewhere, but the bird's insanity had a amusing if not dark undertone to it she didn't mind having around. If only she could put him to good use for a change.
