- Trial 1:
- 5-6. No Mere Obstacle Course.
A live ammunition obstacle course, little more than a straight forward time trial run. It’s not enough to finish, but rather to not fall below the fail line on the results ladder. The run is largely straight, down a street in Kumo with the crowd perched on rooftop bleachers. But down the street hides arrow traps and darts that fire at 15mp/s, near invisible razor sharp or even electrified wire or meshing that extends across the street as well as other potential hazards among the hurdles, sand traps, climbing walls balancing beams and other obstacles that are part of the course. The genin undertaking this course will have to be on their A game to make it to the other end intact, yet alone in time.
Co-operation available: Enemies. Ninja doing this mission together race side by side, but as the task requires your time to be higher than all the others, losing does not mean failure..
Nova was prepared for the first trial. This one she was prepared for, and hoped to be able to complete it without showing too many of her skills to her competition. She waited at the starting line, her chakra already piloting Kurogokegamu with herself sealed inside, right now she was blind, in complete darkness inside, and she waited for the whistle that indicated the start of her trial before she activated her spider's eye jutsu which would silence the world to her ears. Kurogokegamu's legs twitched in anticipation as she lightly tugged at the strings, waiting to take off at the whistle as it sounded.
The whistle pierced the morning air and the crowds lining the roofs on either side of the road cheered, and Nova began to peer though the spiders eyes, all noise falling silent inside. Launching out from behind the line on the ground Kurogokegamu skittered with an impressive speed down the straight course, and within seconds Nova spotted the first trap, a dart trap was well hidden behind barrels from her view, but she saw the glint off of a tripwire at shin height. Veering to the left she skittered to the barrels, and used those as a launching pad to fling the spiders form at the wall of the building that made up the left side barrier to the course, and the barbs on Kurogokegamu's leg provided excellent grip, allowing her to maintain her speed as easily across the wall as she could on flat ground. She kept scouring the area in front of her to spot the next trap, keeping an eye out for anything from another tripwire to pressure pads. Sunken into the wall infront of her, Nova spotted what appeared to be a dart trap. Launching several meters off the wall back to the flat road, Kurogokegamu landed gracefully, but she felt a slight click from one of the hind legs as she had unintentionally hit one of the pressure plates she had looked out for. The very trap she was trying to avoid spewed small needle like darts that appeared to be applied with some sort of poison. Ducking down as the puppet still skittered along, she was able to avoid most of them, one or two clinking against the shield impervious to such a projectile.
The next obstacle was an obvious one, a wall had been put up, towering above the building on other sides. Nova smiled to herself and Kurogokegamu scaled the wall with ease, clearing it in mere seconds, and began the climb down the other side, which as an additional thread had been littered with spines that she wove between without much thought. Before her stood a massive pile of wood boxes, not all of them looking structurally sound. Scanning the pile for what looked like the most structurally sound path through them, alighting on the ones to the left the piles creaked as her puppet strained the weak wood from its weight. Without stopping she charged onward, losing her speed for just a moment as one of her puppets legs went to step to the next box but slammed down, sending wood debris flying. Catching her balance she wove carefully through the next few meters of boxes, not wanting to lose any more speed. The puppet scrambled down the other side and she felt the ground rumble slightly as she felt the remainder of the boxes tumble to the ground, although she could not hear it.
Legs tapping rapidly against the dusty roadway, she came upon the final obstacle, another obvious one. A ramp lead up several meters before dropping off to a large pool that had been created there, the other side a ramp down. The crystal clear water shone blue in the sunlight, several meters deep. Without a second thought Kurogokegamu dove in, submerged completely but the airtight seal sinking to the bottom, Kurogokegamu's legs had no issue finding traction against the floor and glided across the bottom, Momentum almost slamming them against the other side, the puppet spun in the water, legs clinging to it and climbed out of the pool, dropletts sparkling in the air as she burst from the surface. Shooting up to the top of the ramp, she hurried, knowing the end was close. Speckles of water clung to Kurogokegomu's sleek body and shone in the sun as the puppet sprinted across the final stretch of rode, crossing the line and stopping to allow Nova to open the latch and sit up to see the crowd above her cheering.
