Issei, being the history buff that he was, wanted to be a tourist of sorts during his time in Sunagakure, and he had done his research before coming. A significant event in the past of Kaze no Kuni involved the Yoku Mines, a combination iron and coal mine where slaves were forced to work in dangerous and exhausting conditions for years and years. One of the slaves ended up freeing the rest of them one day and then destroyed the area, but due to natural gases in the mines, everything burst into flames, and the fires hadn't died down since. Issei wondered what kind of effect that large, burning mass had on the environment around Sunagakure over such a long term, as it had been burning for decades. He also wondered what resources were forever lost in the process, as the coal and iron was obviously no longer reachable due to the flames. Nonetheless, it was a necessary loss, in that human rights were being violated in the slave trade and the labor and that one slave destroying the mines freed everyone and took another step towards normalcy, though their lives would never quite be the same as if they had never been involved.
The kiri-nin acquired a map of the country and spent the day journeying to the Door to Hell, as it was now called, so that he could survey the area and watch the flames. The one thing he knew was that it would be extremely hot in that area, between the intense sun and the burning sands; he might not have been able to hold up in such a place. He had barely adjusted to the weather in the village, and that was extremely difficult for him. That was the one thing he missed about Kirigakure the most; the morning mist, the cool weather, and the gray skies meant comfortability to Issei, and Sunagakure lacked, well, all of those things. He wore a sleeveless, white shirt and his Ninshiki robe, which was lightweight, silken, and one sleeved, as well as black pants and tabi. He also had his Kirigakure headband tied around his forehead, for once, with his bangs to the side and over one of his eyes to help shield him from the relentless rays beaming down on him as he walked. He arrived at the Door to Hell around 2 in the afternoon, and let out a deep sigh when he got there. It really did look like an otherworldly portal, a huge burning crater that let to an unthinkable inferno. He tried to imagine what the mines had looked like during their operational years...
