Shimo was dressed in a pair of slacks and a better looking long sleeved button up shirt. His normal desert adventuring outfit was tucked into a duffel bag and stored under the desk he was currently sitting at. In all of his short life he never had to work a job sitting behind a desk. The room was quiet, isolated from the out side and from the other people who worked in that building. The sound of the people out side was a dull mumble at best and to make things worse the only predominant sound inside the building was the steady tic, tic, tic of the clock on the wall.

Never the less Shimo volunteered for the mission and he was determined to complete it. His first task seemed simple enough sort through the pile of mail and alphabetize it. Shimo knew enough to know that abe came before abo and that bea came before cef that was an easy task. To try and keep the paper work from getting confused he began to create small piles for paper work that started with a particular letter. Once that was done he began sorting the piles starting with a, ab, ad, ae and so forth for each pile.

When Shimo thought he was done he brought it to his manager to receive his next task. Unfortunately the manager required all the paper work to also be alphabetized by sender as well as title. By the time he had really gotten into the task of reorganizing the paper work his desk was covered in paper work as well as floor around him, the cabinets and the rest of the flat surfaces. But eventually the mess started getting smaller and while there were a few mistakes it followed the way the manager wanted it.

That first task took most of the morning but after that, things were quiet again and his only task was to direct people that came in to the various offices. After lunch the manager and most of the permanent staff had a meeting that was going to take most of the afternoon. Things started out easily enough a few pieces of paper work needed processing and then as if some signal had been given a rush of people all looking to speak with the manager came in. With each one of them Shimo opened “Welcome, I am Shimo Rai how may I help you?” To the people who asked to see the manager Shimo replied “I’m sorry but he’s in a meeting, I can leave a message and have him get back to you as soon as he possibly can.” The other people were either directed away or asked if they could wait until the meeting was over.

Through out that entire day Shimo’s constant companion was the tic,tic,tic of the clock seconds were recorded easily by the ticking but minutes seemed like hours and hours never seemed to come. Again paper work needed sorted and processed and he did that, in fact by the time he had to sort out the paper work again Shimo almost enjoyed sorting paper work it beat the total monotony of sitting and waiting.

The final task came about an hour before closing time, it was a simple little clean up of the office and the manager’s office as well. Well it was easier than mucking out stables or trying to herd sheep into a pen. Grabbing a broom Shimo set to work humming a little quick paced song to him self either some thing he heard on the street or an older song from his past. Trash taken out was next followed by a good mopping with piping hot water to make the tile shine. When all that was done the doors were closed, the shades pulled down, the air conditioner was shut off and every one left.

Not a bad end to the day all things considered.
