Trilby casually tossed the scroll into it's fire. His orders were simple, yet peculiar. A animal expert needed a rare species of wolf captured, further details would be delivered upon meeting the man in person. The door slammed shut behind him as he made his way through the Sunagakure streets. The meeting cactus, the scroll said, he was to meet professor Makiba Ookami there. ”Professor?” The small rodent of a man jumped at his words, his glasses falling off his hawk-like nose as he leapt. After flailing about in the sand in an attempt to find his glasses, which Trilby did in no way assist him with, he eventually stood up and turned to greet him.”Ah, yes, headband, Sunagakure origin, probably genin by equipment standard, likely here for mission. Names Makiba, here for wolves yes?” Oh god. The man spoke like he'd been snorting cocaine. This briefing would be painful. ”That's correct. I understand you need me to kill some wolves or something.” The colour drained from the man's face as he began to shake his head. ”No no no, not kill, hunt. Capture. I need them alive, yes. Very rare, cannot afford death. Here, take these, sedative darts.” Makiba pointed towards the west, into the vast desert. ”Two miles that way, nesting ground, need two samples. Male and female. One dart for each. Be careful, bite is toxic, and the dart could kill pups if the female is pregnant. Identify them by their dark yellow fur. Go now, return them safely, can't lose them, no, no, can't lose wolves. Too valuable” Trilby grabbed the darts from the madman's hand, leaving him to his ramblings. The west, huh? Well, no time to delay.

Sand was everywhere. Obviously for a desert that's about as redundant as remaking on the wetness of water, but today it was being particularly virulent. A sandstorm in the distance was causing the air to bombard him with grains of sand, seeping into everything from his jacket to his weapons pouch. The wind would destroy any animal tracks left in the sand, so Trilby would have to rely on either blind luck or logic to find the beasts, which was both a blessing and a curse. He didn't have much experience tracking wild animals, but he was always looking for a challenge. After all, tracking experience would help him in the future, if he had to follow an enemy shinobi who could cover most of their tracks. “Two miles, give or take a few metres. Golden wolf nesting ground. Fantastic. Now where the hell is it?!” The area was reasonably bland, with a few cacti and scrubs scattered around. A small mountain was in the distance. No visible lifeforms that he could notice. Still, that left him one option; he had to look for some evidence of a nest. It made sense, he figured, that they could take some form of shelter near the mountain, perhaps in a cave of some description. So he decided to head in that direction.

The walk was mostly quiet, until Trilby stumbled across a small grey rabbit. The creature scurried off towards the mountain, clearly terrified by the sudden appearance of a giant bipedal creature. Trilby followed it, assuming it would be running for it's burrow. It made sense. After all, a scared rabbit would head for it's home, and it's home would be a perfect source of food for a wolf. It didn't take long before Trilby reached the burrow, the rabbit diving into a small hole in the sand, probably relieved to be away from the freaky giant that was chasing it. And now he would wait, he was sure a wolf would approach eventually, hungry for a bit of rabbit pie.

Trilby laid down a few feet away from the burrow, covering himself with a light coating of sand. Hopefully it would cover himself from sight until a wolf stumbled into his path. It only took half an hour before Trilby heard something, the slight rustle of a rabbit crawling out of it's burrow. It began to skip merrily around, looking for something to eat, when like a rocket, a large, golden wolf leapt out of nowhere, ripping into it, fangs drawn. It was clearly a male, based on it's... physical appearance, shall we say. Trilby needed one of these. Still, it was too busy devouring the rabbit to notice him, and he was partially buried in the sand. Focusing his chakra through his hands, he snaked one chain through the ground, wrapping it around the wolf's leg. It shrieked, trying to tear it off it's leg. While it was constrained, Trilby shot another chain over the surface, wrapping it around it's neck. While it was bound, he broke the submerged chain, walking over to it and stabbing the knock out sedative into it's stomach, knocking it out.
Trilby made two stone clones, getting one to sling the fox over it's shoulder. Wolves were pack animals, and it was likely there was a female around here somewhere. They were under the shadow of the mountain now, so Trilby decided to head in that direction, expecting to find a cave. Sure enough, a few minutes of walking later, he reached a large cavern carved into it's side. Drawing his lighter, the symbol of the Ouroboros carved into it's side, he flicked it on, using it as a guiding light for him and his clones. Near the back of the cave, he found what he was seeking, a female wolf with an unusually large stomach. She was pregnant. Trilby almost threw the dart at her when he remembered what the psychotic doctor said, the sedative would kill the pups. Clearly he couldn't sedate this wolf, the entire point was to help save their species, not only would a miscarriage thin their numbers, it could kill the mother or damage her ability to breed.

The stone clone gave the original Trilby the unconscious male wolf, and the two clones began to approach the female wolf. It snarled and backed up as they approached, but it was clear she was far too pregnant to put up much resistance, she was about to burst. One of the stone clones approached it's front, getting a firm bite in the forearm. As it was made of stone, it ignored it, while the other clone grabbed it from behind. The two clones together forced the dog down, while the original dropped the unconscious male at his feet, drawing a length of wire and binding the wolf's teeth and feet. The two clones carried the female, while the original carried the male. Slowly but surely, they made their way back to the psychotic professor at the meeting cactus, he would surely be pleased with their haul.
